We went to the Gun for a birthday dinner and we were shown to our tabel promptly. The menu specials were seafood related, having been sourced from Billingsate Market that morning so we were guaranteed fresh and seasonal produce. The battered sprats were fat and juicy with a touch of optional lemon juice and coarse tartare sauce. The potted wild mushroom starter was unexpectedly served as a terrine with a pungent pirce of fried camembert and raison jam - very flavourdsome. Although the beef wellington special was not available, the braised beef cheeks were tender and moist served on a bed of red cabbage and parnips - such rich, earthy flavours with the perfect blend of sweetness from the red cabbage. The 3 scoops of icecream (roasted banana, cinamon and crystallised ginger) went down a trteat and the raspberry and blackberry special was very light. They do a nice Happy Birthday plate with choclate truffles which went down very nicely. Overall, service was attentive, despite us having 3 servings of bread! Highly recommended.

My wife and I had a Sunday dinner at The Gun. We have previously only been here for lunch and absolutely enjoyed it. We ordered the scallops and salmon tartare as starters, and the rib-eye steak and cod with ravioli as mains. All of the food were absolutely amazing! In particular, the steak was probably one of the best steaks I have ever had, certainly not losing out to the likes of Hawksmoor. We had an amazing evening sitting out on the terrace at a table next to the river which was enclosed with heating. We would certainly visit there again for dinner and would happily recommend the place to all foodies.

This is one of my favourite pubs in London and came here for dinner on Saturday night. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The scallops I had were really tasty as was the salmon fillet. Lovely selection of fresh seafood including lobster. The steak served to one guest in our party was perhaps a little rarer than expected and overall the portions were quite small. In terms of dessert I had the chocolate mousse which was a little too solid for my liking.

I love this place especially on wintery Sundays by the fire place. Went for dinner last Friday and there was a large table next to us which spoiled the athmosphere as way too loud for a small dining area.. But hopefully it was a one off!

The Gun was a good decision for a quiet family gathering. Although quite small the decor was lovely and the ambiance was suitable, there was a fine dining experience on at the same time so it was a little louder than perhaps as usual. Even so it did not detract from the occasion. The food is excellent and perfectly proportioned. I was able to eat three courses and be comfortably full and not feeling full to the brim. Our starters were fantastic, the sprats were well received as was the mushroom pate. For the main course the braised beef cheek and the duck stole were magnificent, the cheek fell apart as you would expect. The only criticism is that the mains were limited in accompaniments, and the side options were somewhat limited to mash, red cabbage or sprout tops. The cabbage was good though and went well with both the duck and the beef. The service was brilliant, the staff well turned out and very helpful. There were plenty to hand as well, ensuring three servers would deliver your food to the table at the same time. My only main criticism is that we were sat immediately next to the door and being November, it was somewhat drafty when customers came in and out. Other than that an enjoyable evening with family at reasonable cost £200 for four having three courses with a bottle of wine is what I would consider good value for the quality of food we received. I would definitely recommend the gun to others.

Booked the Gun for my partner's birthday lunch. As it was a Sunday we opted for the roast. Him the pork, me the pork. The food was superb even the roast potatoes which many places tend not to get right. Shared the dark chocolate ganache & blackcurrant sorbet even though our eyes turned out to be bigger than our bellies. Service was excellent and atmosphere relaxed but special. Will definiteley eat here again.

Took a family group of 7 to celebrate my half century and everybody was happy with their experience and all of us would recommend it to friends. It's not cheap but the food was tasty, interesting and had something for all my guests (aged from 15 - 79). I'd recommend asking for a riverview table if you book.

Recently came here for Sunday lunch with 4 friends. I had read reviews prior to coming here, some were positive and some not so positive. All I can do is judge it on the experience I had and it was a great experience. We were welcomed with smiles and greetings and shown to our table. The service was very attentive throughout the whole meal. But ultimately we came here for a great Sunday lunch and that's what we got. I had the roast beef which was full of flavour. All the trimmings were excellent and the little side pots of gravy, horseradish sauce and cauliflower cheese were a nice touch. My only gripe was that they didn't have any English mustard which i thought was odd but these things happen. Great service, great food, I hope to return

The only minor quibble is that the 'outside' deck with the O2 views is no longer outside - permanently enclosed in glass, so it can get quite noisy if the deck's busy. Which it usually is. As it's pretty much the reason most people go there. But it's still always a joy. And not just for that view.

There has been a pub on the site of The Gun for over 200 years. It has come back from a recent fire to house a more than average gastropub. The restaurant is small and booking is essential, even on a weekday evening when we dined. The food is very good with fresh ingredients featured. We all had fish dishes which had been sourced at the local Billingsgate market. Everything was prepared well with nice side dishes. The wine list is surprisingly extensive with selections to match every palate and wallet. Ale choices are part of the pub provisions. Prices were high and service was attentive. The Gun is located on a side street that leads to the river almost directly across from the O2.

Returning back to The Gun for the second year in a row to celebrate my girl friends birthday. The two years have been mirror images, great Sunday Roast, huge portions, so much so we skipped the starter again this year. Great surroundings, nice choice of wines at reasonable prices, and the service is excellent, even being able to recommend the best dessert to share after the hearty meal. Definitely be going again, hopefully not waiting another year!!!

This is a fabulous place to go after work for a drink and enjoy their fantastic food. The crew is really professional and warm, and they do read their guests very well. They give you space you need it and are alert to be there when appropriate. The crab is really good and salmon had a very nice sauce and perfectly cooked. The steak is superb. Wine list is really good and the ambience perfect for business dinner/meetings.

Visiting from France and looking for a "classic" english sunday lunch menu, we found The Gun being ranked among the best places in London. The place is very warm and the people were really nice upon our arrival and gave us our table promptly even though we wera a little early. The food was excellent and the different tastes very well balanced. The pork roast was really great. Perfectly cooked and tasty. The service was "too quick" as we just had finished a plate than the other one was already on the table.

The cod and chips is by far the best available anywhere. The portion size is generous, perfectly cooked in a simple batter not 2 inches of thick fat as so often get. Really good. Fish is fresh from Billingsgate Market which is under a mile away so must be fresh.

We booked a table at The Gun on the Friday afternoon for a Friday evening. The reservation was quite early (6pm - the earliest you can have dinner) and when we got there we managed to get a table outside. They were very accommodating and moved the reservation to the outside table. They served a good (but a little pricey) Malbec to go with our dinner and I also had two pints of Snake Oil - a lovely pale ale style lager. I ordered the oysters to start (large and fresh) and the steak for a main and it was huge. Fantastic. It was cooked medium rare and it was spot on. Bar staff were great, serving staff a little confused but very friendly and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Food was really quite good. We were seated in the front room so no ambience or view. I think probably quite nice when you are seated on the terrace with view of O2 across the river. THey were perhaps short-staffed in the dining room when I was there, so service was a little sporadic, but still not hoffible; suspect service may have been better on terrace where they seemed to have more servers. I will go back, but only if I can get a booking on the terrace.

Whilst the food is good in this Docklands gastro pub, it isn't particularly good value considering you are sitting slap bang in the middle of a very noisy pub. It is really not the sort of place to go for a dinner for two, because you can barely make yourself heard and it's not relaxing having to shout across the table at your partner for two hours! The place doesn't stop being a pub just because there are white linen table cloths. I know there's a dining room at the back (on the river) and, in future, I would only dine at The Gun if there are tables available in that room. But maybe they aren't for couples?

Lovely old school pub with ample inside and outside space and good selection of beers. The restaurant opens onto the front bar, which is mainly sit down so you get the atmosphere and buzz without excessive noise. The food is divine. A great place for meat and game and our sirloin steak on the bone for two easily fed three (we had starters and dessert) and was tender and delicious. We shared the fish special, cod tongue, cheek and neck with beans as a starter with some sides. Another fine and earthy dish, and the turnip gratin is a real winner. Desserts very good too, warm apple cake with various apple flavours and deep, rich and fruity summer pudding although one guest thought their ice cream wasn't creamy enough. And the staff are lovely.

I came already several times to the Gun and it was already outstanding!!!! This time I invited my family, which I just see one time per year, and this time the service and overall experience was just horrible. I booked a table on the terrace, when I came the waiter said that it's not possible, then he found a table in your dining room, which is not as far so good as the terrace. My parents ordered some oysters, crayfish and crabs, and everything was not available, even if it was written on the menu. The topic was that you even run out of all your port, except one. I am working in the same business, so I understand these problems, but normally a good waiter can see if the costumer is not happy. After this time I am not sure to come back.

We booked The Gun last minute for a celebratory dinner with family. Everyone loved the dishes they chose, we were impressed with the service and the ability to move our booking to an earlier time during the booking confirmation call. We all had three courses, which was too much food, but the menu was tempting and the food was brilliant. One person is a vegetarian, a second person dairy free and both were able to ask for slight adjustments to dishes without fuss from the kitchen. A brilliant evening was enjoyed by all.

Mains were the usual roasts for Sunday lunch which were good but could have been hotter. Puddings looked stunning but we were all too full to have one.
