A word from The Hinds Head - Bray
We’re located in a listed 15th-century building nestled in the heart of the pretty village of Bray, near Maidenhead in Berkshire. Our ambience is that of a local village pub, offering you a warm welcome, exceptional, friendly service and outstanding food.
Our restaurant menus offer a combination of traditional seasonal cuisine and historic British dishes, all designed by our owner, chef Heston Blumenthal. Heston's quest for excellence in taste and flavour is combined with Head Chef Kevin Love's respect and love of fresh seasonal produce, to create a menu of British favourites in harmony with the building's Tudor origins.
Our bar area is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a light snack, accompanied by locally sourced guest ales and a carefully selected wine list.

  • "This meal was a treat for my nephew and the Hinds Head at Bray delivered. The staff are extremely professional and very knowledgeable about the menu. Service was of a very high standard and nothing was too much trouble. The food was absolutely scrumptious and served in a timely manner despite this being an incredibly busy Sunday lunchtime. Would highly recommend!"

  • "We went for an Anniversary Lunch. We expected the meal to be quite expensive - especially when compared to a traditional Sunday Pub Lunch. We had predinner cocktails, three Courses and a bottle of wine and were very pleased with the quality of all elements. Whilst not being cheap, we could not fault the food and the service was impeccable. - courteous and friendly. I consider this to be value for money on a special occasion and would definitely return and recommend to others"

  • "well the signature dishes did not disappoint the whole evening was enhanced by friendly staff who were knowledgable but not intrusive"

  • "Heston's 'other place' is a brilliant combination of food and service that is 'fine dining' in the real sense of customer-orientated superb ingredients and cooking, full of taste and interest but without any pretensions or faux spectacle. I had extremes of an unctuous 'suet pudding' main and a fascinating 'foam' dessert - equally clever and delicious. Our party ranged for 8 to 80 - and all treated warmly and carefully. No fuss, great attention."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised to get a reservation with only a couple of days notice, the builing itself is amazing, simply oozing history & charm. The staff were fantastic and as for the food my starter of tea smoked salmon was perfectly set off by the soured cream butter and my daughter pronounced her venison starter perfect. For mains my wife had rib-eye which incredible the only downside was the chipe as triple cooked were off the menu. My mcaroni with wild mushrooms and a slow cooked hens egg tasted was better than expected, a side order of carrots cooked in earl grey tea was an unexpected winner, we rounded off with cocktails in the bar, another winner as were the bartenders"

  • "Superb service and food as always. Its become a tradition for my new business partner and I to end my trips to the EU with dinner at the Hind's Head. This time we had a client join us and they were as charmed by the place as I have been on my previous two trips. Looking forward to bringing my wife here in September."

  • "My friend has always wanted to go to The Fat Duck but I knew I'd never get a table at such short notice. I saw that The Hind Head had been awarded a Micheline star so knew the food was bound to be good. We had a lovely time, the staff were really friendly, the ambience in the pub was very relaxed, we'd got a bit dressed up but people were dressed very casually there. The food was delicious, I had a ribeye steak that just melted in the mouth. The desserts were classic Heston, delicious with a touch of weirdness!"

  • "We have eaten at the Crown - Heston's other pub in Bray and expected the Hinds Head to be similar. In fact it was less of a pub and more of a restaurant. The food was, of course, excellent but it slightly lacked the buzz and the atmosphere of the Crown. Perhaps this was because it was mid-week and not busy. A memorable meal nevertheless. Two and a half courses for two were about £80 plus drinks and service."

  • "I love this place, and have visited many times. It has been consistently fabulous for me recently, so it's no big surprise that eventually it didn't quite reach my sky high expectations. Food was good, but not amazing. I had a rib eye steak which was fattier than usual and not very tender (tasted amazing though). Service was enthusiastic and informative, but not very quick. The prices too seem to have gone up (could be my imagination) meaning the value is less impressive. Would definitely still go back for Sunday lunch rather than a mid week dinner - definitely better value."

  • "4 of us went out for a special occasion meal, the whole evening was lovely. The food was exceptional, the surroundings were lovely, we ate upstairs in the eaves, with exposed beams and very welcome air conditioning. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive. All in all it was a lovely evening and good value as well."

  • "This was an amazing, if late, Christmas present. The first chance the family could get together. The champagne cocktails were great. The whole meal was exceptionally good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. One "complaint"! They only had two bottles of the lovely Austrian wine we were drinking! However, the Riesling was a good substitute! We were the last to leave but at no time did we feel pressurised to hurry. An interesting building, more suited to the shorter people. You six footers, be warned! If you haven't been to the Hind's Head, do put it on your things to do list"

  • "I expected more for a restaurant owned by such a fantastic chef. I'm not a good cook but my wife isn't bad and I felt that she could have cooked everything we ordered. I took her there for her birthday and wouldn't spend £200 on a dinner without very good reason but if I do then I expect something that blows me away. The Hinds Head failed to meet the mark for me, I would go as far as saying the stake could have been served in my local Weatherspoons. That said the staff where lovely and the cocktails fantastic."

  • "This was our second visit and it was just as good as the first. Staff are very well trained and passionate about everything they do. Food was superb, couldn't fault anything. Its not cheap but somethings are worth paying for. Will be back."

  • "The food was stupendous. Moreover, the prices were quite cheap for what they are serving. The only problem was at the end of the meal with service. I'd informed our waitress that we needed to be out the door within 15 minutes before ordering dessert. She assured us that would not be a problem, and hurried back immediately with dessert menus. We ordered instantly, and she ran off to the put the orders in. We didn't even get the desserts for 18 minutes, and when I asked for the check at the time of dessert delivery, it took an additional 6 minutes for the check to appear -- without the credit card machine. All told, the "definitely out the door in 15 minutes" turned into 27. This forced me to miss a meeting that afternoon."

  • "The food was good and the service was amazing. A bit pricey, so would recommend for special occassions. Defiantly worth while visiting."

  • "I took my husband to the Hinds Head to celebrate his 40th birthday. We were impressed with every little detail - from the lovely welcome by the front of house (which included an invitation for my husband to sample the ales before he chose one), to our friendly and knowledgeable waiter and, of course, the food itself. Each course was perfect and exactly as described. My dessert, the 'quaking' banana and custard, was one of the nicest and most moreish things that I have ever eaten and I loved the little touch of giving me a card that explained the origins of the method for making it. The food was excellent value, considering the quality, portion size and beautiful presentation. It may have been a 'pub' lunch, but it was a pretty special one."

  • "The sunday lunch was perfect. Was kept waiting for a few minutes when entering the pub, but once we had been seated the service was impeccable and not in the least overbearing which can be the case at place like this. Fresh baked bread was delicious as was the duck terrine to start (although I have had better and bigger posh scotch eggs). The roast was perfectly proportioned for a three course meal, and the meat was just right. Lovely 'Blumenthalesque' touches such as the horseradish sauce and crackling. Deserts were interesting and not too heavy. High recommended!"

  • "We visited The Hind's Head on Sunday the 6th of Juky and our entire experience was excellent. I had the Oxford tail and kidney pudding which was deliciously intense and rich in flavour as was the banana and custard quaking pudding. We would consider going back more often if we lived in that area but it would be something for a special occasion since we actually live in Wales. Highly recommend it!"

  • "I booked this restaurant as a wedding anniversary and had high expectations after a recommendation from a friend. Whilst I was aware it wasn't the fat duck, I did expect a bit more considering the Heston brand. The staff were first class and our waitress had an excellent knowledge of all the dishes and gave us historical facts about the dishes. However the food was distinctly gastro pub esc and most local restaurants would offer similar fare. Considering we drove over 1 1/2hrs to get there I left somewhat disappointed."

  • "Enjoyed a meal with friends on a Saturday night. Food excellent, not your "normal" pub food; more like fine dining. Service very attentive and the staff try very hard to please. Wine list very good also. Coffee chocolates superb. Atmosphere very nice; informal but not sloppy. Great place. Not cheap, about £75 each for 3 courses with wine, but well worth it. I'd rather do one visit here than two to somewhere charging half the price!"

  • "I've eaten here two or three times before, and it gets better and better. Since Heston did away with an a la carter at the Duck next door, this place has upped its game to take the Heston-lite brigade who don't fancy thenTheatre of Food menu ( and more fool them, because that is a lifetime's highlight as well ). The service here is out of this world, with young and knowledgeable staff ( we heard them being tested on the menu before they opened! ) , who love their jobs and love their customers. The food is simply wonderful. The veal and the Quaking Pudding have convinced me to go back ASAP. The Earl Grey and Gin cocktail was sumptuously made. Fab. Unmissable."

  • "not the best place if one has dietary constraints (like me) - it turned out that I could only have one option in the main courses - fish and i do not really like fish. unlike some other places, this restaurant offers no flexibility in adjusting the courses by removing/substituting the ingredient concerned (garlic in my case) as most sources are re-prepared . And this is despite the fact that I have noted this at the booking hoping they could accommodate. My partner enjoyed his meal though."

  • "Although known for the food it was the outstanding service that stayed longest in the memory. Super table, slightly raised and in a semi-private alcove opposite the main entrance. Ask for this one! Food excellent as always. Don't miss the famous scotch eggs appetiser."

  • "Five of us had Sunday lunch at The Hinds Head - first visit for two of us. Another wonderful eating experience for all. We had been alerted on their website to the withdrawal of triple cooked chips due to the excessive sugar content of potatoes during the summer season (first time I have come across that!). We shared three scotch eggs to start with - lovely freshly cooked quails egg oozing out. Between us we had the roast beef (wonderfully tender) with Yorkshire pudding and a lovely gravy, delicious roast potatoes and vegetables; macaroni and mushrooms; shepherds pie; and the roast pork and crackling, also with the roast potatoes and vegetables. For desserts we had the chocolate tart and lemon curd tart - all delicious. We will be back."

  • "Outstanding starters and main courses, although most desserts were not to the same standard. Not inexpensive, but outstanding service from enthusiastic young people. Good "pub" ambience, but with plenty of room between tables. We shall return!"

  • "The food at the Hind Head was delightful however you need to request to sit in the old part of the pub when booking I discovered. We were sat in the middle if the room -2 of us with a view if all the coats/prams only. Not what you expect when you are spending upwards of £130 for a pub lunch !!"
    dined on 29/06/2014
  • "Having dined previously in restaurant we requested table in main restaurant rather than in upstairs dining area much better ambience food was good but main courses were disappointing with fillet steak not tender no comparison with the Meat Company at Westfield which sets a very high standard We were looking forward to the triple cooked chips but these were not not on menu"

  • "The service at the Hinds Head was faultless, we arrived early, had cocktails in the bar and then moved into the restaurant for dinner. Nothing was rushed and our waiter was attentive without being there all the time. The food was superb. This was a special treat for my husband’s birthday and I would definitely recommend it for special occasions."
    dined on 27/06/2014
  • "Came for lunch earlier this week expecting great things as a one of Heston Blumenthal's restaurants/Michelin star, was unfortunately disappointed. We had to wait quite a while for any service, and had to ask someone if they could help us. Although, our waiter was very kind and helpful with any questions on the menu when we asked. Ham hock and rabbit terrine starter was good but main course (mackerel and pea shoots) was slightly disappointing. The chips were lukewarm and not 'french fries' as labelled! Good vegetables (carrots, beans with smoked almonds). Overall, ok but wouldn't recommend it for a special lunch, what you'd expect for the prices you're paying."

  • "we were celebrating my daughters birthday and they did ask previously was there a occasion ...she got a card!!!! food and flavours were all lovely but my daughters steak had to be sent back as it was all fat (my husband had the same and his was perfect) second steak was ok at £33!! it was an experience but not sure i would go back >"

  • "Here is a place with the casual appeal and atmosphere, but where you have no doubt as to the intricate detail and impressive expertise that has gone into preparing a robustly English menu made up of stonkingly tasty grub! The hash of snails was very flavourful; the oxtail and kidney pudding was supremely intense and the warm chocolate pudding was decadent and satisfyingly oozy. Hurrah!"

  • "Me and two old friends met at the Hinds Head for dinner on Monday, 16/6 - a long awaited evening out (3 years!). Although the starters were fine, my two friends both went for the fish dish, Sea Bream with Samphire - unfortunately, it was far too salty - the waitress was very sweet, but only offered another dish from the menu - by this time it was too late to await another main course, so they ploughed on but neither could finish the fish, chips were good (extra), but that was it. I had the mushroom macaroni, also salty, but edible. After pudding, the waitress explained that the chef had tried the dish, and agreed that it was far too salty, and the dishes and bar drinks were taken off the bill. Ultimately, really rather disappointing!"
