A word from The Hinds Head - Bray
We’re located in a listed 15th-century building nestled in the heart of the pretty village of Bray, near Maidenhead in Berkshire. Our ambience is that of a local village pub, offering you a warm welcome, exceptional, friendly service and outstanding food.
Our restaurant menus offer a combination of traditional seasonal cuisine and historic British dishes, all designed by our owner, chef Heston Blumenthal. Heston's quest for excellence in taste and flavour is combined with Head Chef Kevin Love's respect and love of fresh seasonal produce, to create a menu of British favourites in harmony with the building's Tudor origins.
Our bar area is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a light snack, accompanied by locally sourced guest ales and a carefully selected wine list.

  • "wonderful service by staff, they were more than helpful. Food was delicious!"

  • "It was pouring with rain but our day was made extremely special by having a wonderful lunch at the Hind's Head Bray. We arrived early and were lucky to have been allocated a wonderful table which was an added bonus as it was a meal to celebrate my husbands birthday. The service was good with friendly and attentive staff. The food was beautifully presented and the flavour combinations on many if our dishes were wonderful. We felt although service charges are the usual 12.5% the meal still represented very good value for money on the dishes selected. I can't wait to go back."

  • "Good food, nice and attentive service. Deserts quite expensive in relation to their size. Nice ambience and the the taste of food and presentation won't disappoint."

  • "This was our first visit to the Hinds Head and the food was outstanding."

  • "I recently went to the hinds heads for a traditional Sunday lunch, once sat and the waitress came to take our order we were only then told they have sold out of roast beef therefore had to choose quickly another main, it was no problem as all courses were amazing however the staff preferred to stand chatting rather than clear our dirty plates away for our next course so we ended up with a collection of dirty dishes, we never got asked if everything was ok, I was dying for a drink but never got asked and everytime I tried to get someone's attention they just looked away,I waited 25 for an expresso at the end and to be honest I was quite fed up of waiting by then, fantastic food but the front of house was a massive let down, prob never again"

  • "Ambience excellent, food excellent, service excellent say no more everything at The Hinds Head was superb and rage children were all made more than welcome even cocktails for them. I however would recommend the White Fizz cocktail something a little different and a bit of a surprise when served"

  • "A wonderful celebration meal was had by all. The food was great and the staff wonderfully helpful and welcoming."

  • "The food here is outstanding we enjoyed it very much. This was a treat for me and my husband, we made a weekend of it and ate at The Crown at Bray the previous night. Both were very good indeed but the Hind's Head was outstanding, thank you for a lovely evening."

  • "The food here is fantastic, set inside a cute old English pub and with great, friendly and helpful service! The oxtail and kidney pudding was the best - so rich, tasty and anything you'd ever wish for in a pub! The quaking pudding dessert so soo yummy. We also learnt a bit about food history, as is typical in a Heston Blumenthal establishment! Would definitely go back again."

  • "I specifically booked dinner with my friends and husband to celebrate my birthday. The staff were exellent and the service was exceptional. The quality of the food was superb with fantastic flavours without being rich (I don't like rich food). The menu was varied enough to suit all tastes. More importantly, we came away feeling we had enough to eat so did not resent paying the quite high price for our meals. My husband mentioned it was my birthday as we were about to pamy our bill and I was given a card signed by the head chef and manager which was a nice touch. The pub was busy with a friendly atmosphere and I would definitely go again."

  • "It was unfortunate that we were sat next to a family with a child who screamed the whole way through our meal and the staff did nothing about it."

  • "Food was excellent as ever. Imaginative, meticulously prepared and flavoursome. Service at the table was very good. My only gripe is the attitude of Maitre'd who let us wait for half an hour and only after 2 enquires showed us to our table without explanation or apology. Spoiled the evening somewhat."

  • "I took 3 friends to lunch to celebrate their birthdays. One of our party was a 3 year old. They were wonderful in accommodating the child and had great food selections for him. But the meal went on for 3 hours which was a bit too long for kids to handle. The wait staff are professionals, very pleasant and accommodating. The food was delicious and worth the high prices you pay for it. I'd definitely recommend this upscale pub for a special occasion."

  • "An excellent venue to celebrate a birthday. The staff supplied birthday cards and a signed menu for the people with birthdays and also asked if we needed a taxi arranging to get us home. The soused mackerel and venison starters were delicious, and the choice of main courses catered for every-one. The wild mushroom maccaroni was so good we all wished we had chosen this. Cocktails made for a great way to start the celebrations, and the desserts left every-one feel comfortably full. We are looking for a reason to return as soon as possible."

  • "Excellent greeting by Virag Assistant Manager. Orders taken by Virag but long delay before being delivered warm. 3 x Hash of snails (compared to previous visits half quantity of snails - VERY POOR VALUE FOR MONEY this time) 1 x Smoked Guinea Fowl and Foie Gras (OK) Main Courses 3 x Hereford Prime Ribeye, Totally EXCELLENT however my wife specially asked for NO FRIES to be substituted by Greens without extra charge. Virag stated NO PROBLEM however when BILL PRESENTED charged as extra item? During Main course ordered extra bottle Sparking Mineral Water BUT NEVER BROUGHT TO TABLE. Complained to server brought during Desserts much too late but charged for. Poor service and NO DEDUCTIONS on BILL Certainly NOT IMPRESSED ON THIS VISIT."

  • "Absolutely beautiful food with such detail and finess. I had a cocktail which the drinks waiter spent ages telling me the history of before pouring a rum cloud into it! Best tasting food I've had in a while highly recommended"

  • "This meal was a treat for my nephew and the Hinds Head at Bray delivered. The staff are extremely professional and very knowledgeable about the menu. Service was of a very high standard and nothing was too much trouble. The food was absolutely scrumptious and served in a timely manner despite this being an incredibly busy Sunday lunchtime. Would highly recommend!"

  • "We went for an Anniversary Lunch. We expected the meal to be quite expensive - especially when compared to a traditional Sunday Pub Lunch. We had predinner cocktails, three Courses and a bottle of wine and were very pleased with the quality of all elements. Whilst not being cheap, we could not fault the food and the service was impeccable. - courteous and friendly. I consider this to be value for money on a special occasion and would definitely return and recommend to others"

  • "well the signature dishes did not disappoint the whole evening was enhanced by friendly staff who were knowledgable but not intrusive"

  • "Heston's 'other place' is a brilliant combination of food and service that is 'fine dining' in the real sense of customer-orientated superb ingredients and cooking, full of taste and interest but without any pretensions or faux spectacle. I had extremes of an unctuous 'suet pudding' main and a fascinating 'foam' dessert - equally clever and delicious. Our party ranged for 8 to 80 - and all treated warmly and carefully. No fuss, great attention."

  • "Good choices/selection Disappointing fish choices, especially for the price"

  • "We were pleasantly surprised to get a reservation with only a couple of days notice, the builing itself is amazing, simply oozing history & charm. The staff were fantastic and as for the food my starter of tea smoked salmon was perfectly set off by the soured cream butter and my daughter pronounced her venison starter perfect. For mains my wife had rib-eye which incredible the only downside was the chipe as triple cooked were off the menu. My mcaroni with wild mushrooms and a slow cooked hens egg tasted was better than expected, a side order of carrots cooked in earl grey tea was an unexpected winner, we rounded off with cocktails in the bar, another winner as were the bartenders"

  • "Superb service and food as always. Its become a tradition for my new business partner and I to end my trips to the EU with dinner at the Hind's Head. This time we had a client join us and they were as charmed by the place as I have been on my previous two trips. Looking forward to bringing my wife here in September."

  • "My friend has always wanted to go to The Fat Duck but I knew I'd never get a table at such short notice. I saw that The Hind Head had been awarded a Micheline star so knew the food was bound to be good. We had a lovely time, the staff were really friendly, the ambience in the pub was very relaxed, we'd got a bit dressed up but people were dressed very casually there. The food was delicious, I had a ribeye steak that just melted in the mouth. The desserts were classic Heston, delicious with a touch of weirdness!"

  • "We have eaten at the Crown - Heston's other pub in Bray and expected the Hinds Head to be similar. In fact it was less of a pub and more of a restaurant. The food was, of course, excellent but it slightly lacked the buzz and the atmosphere of the Crown. Perhaps this was because it was mid-week and not busy. A memorable meal nevertheless. Two and a half courses for two were about £80 plus drinks and service."

  • "I love this place, and have visited many times. It has been consistently fabulous for me recently, so it's no big surprise that eventually it didn't quite reach my sky high expectations. Food was good, but not amazing. I had a rib eye steak which was fattier than usual and not very tender (tasted amazing though). Service was enthusiastic and informative, but not very quick. The prices too seem to have gone up (could be my imagination) meaning the value is less impressive. Would definitely still go back for Sunday lunch rather than a mid week dinner - definitely better value."

  • "Wonderful staff serving wonderful food. Wish we lived nearer!"

  • "4 of us went out for a special occasion meal, the whole evening was lovely. The food was exceptional, the surroundings were lovely, we ate upstairs in the eaves, with exposed beams and very welcome air conditioning. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive. All in all it was a lovely evening and good value as well."

  • "This was an amazing, if late, Christmas present. The first chance the family could get together. The champagne cocktails were great. The whole meal was exceptionally good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. One "complaint"! They only had two bottles of the lovely Austrian wine we were drinking! However, the Riesling was a good substitute! We were the last to leave but at no time did we feel pressurised to hurry. An interesting building, more suited to the shorter people. You six footers, be warned! If you haven't been to the Hind's Head, do put it on your things to do list"
    dined on 19/07/2014
  • "I expected more for a restaurant owned by such a fantastic chef. I'm not a good cook but my wife isn't bad and I felt that she could have cooked everything we ordered. I took her there for her birthday and wouldn't spend £200 on a dinner without very good reason but if I do then I expect something that blows me away. The Hinds Head failed to meet the mark for me, I would go as far as saying the stake could have been served in my local Weatherspoons. That said the staff where lovely and the cocktails fantastic."
    dined on 16/07/2014
  • "This was our second visit and it was just as good as the first. Staff are very well trained and passionate about everything they do. Food was superb, couldn't fault anything. Its not cheap but somethings are worth paying for. Will be back."
    dined on 12/07/2014
  • "The food was stupendous. Moreover, the prices were quite cheap for what they are serving. The only problem was at the end of the meal with service. I'd informed our waitress that we needed to be out the door within 15 minutes before ordering dessert. She assured us that would not be a problem, and hurried back immediately with dessert menus. We ordered instantly, and she ran off to the put the orders in. We didn't even get the desserts for 18 minutes, and when I asked for the check at the time of dessert delivery, it took an additional 6 minutes for the check to appear -- without the credit card machine. All told, the "definitely out the door in 15 minutes" turned into 27. This forced me to miss a meeting that afternoon."

  • "The food was good and the service was amazing. A bit pricey, so would recommend for special occassions. Defiantly worth while visiting."

  • "I took my husband to the Hinds Head to celebrate his 40th birthday. We were impressed with every little detail - from the lovely welcome by the front of house (which included an invitation for my husband to sample the ales before he chose one), to our friendly and knowledgeable waiter and, of course, the food itself. Each course was perfect and exactly as described. My dessert, the 'quaking' banana and custard, was one of the nicest and most moreish things that I have ever eaten and I loved the little touch of giving me a card that explained the origins of the method for making it. The food was excellent value, considering the quality, portion size and beautiful presentation. It may have been a 'pub' lunch, but it was a pretty special one."

  • "The sunday lunch was perfect. Was kept waiting for a few minutes when entering the pub, but once we had been seated the service was impeccable and not in the least overbearing which can be the case at place like this. Fresh baked bread was delicious as was the duck terrine to start (although I have had better and bigger posh scotch eggs). The roast was perfectly proportioned for a three course meal, and the meat was just right. Lovely 'Blumenthalesque' touches such as the horseradish sauce and crackling. Deserts were interesting and not too heavy. High recommended!"

  • "We visited The Hind's Head on Sunday the 6th of Juky and our entire experience was excellent. I had the Oxford tail and kidney pudding which was deliciously intense and rich in flavour as was the banana and custard quaking pudding. We would consider going back more often if we lived in that area but it would be something for a special occasion since we actually live in Wales. Highly recommend it!"

  • "I booked this restaurant as a wedding anniversary and had high expectations after a recommendation from a friend. Whilst I was aware it wasn't the fat duck, I did expect a bit more considering the Heston brand. The staff were first class and our waitress had an excellent knowledge of all the dishes and gave us historical facts about the dishes. However the food was distinctly gastro pub esc and most local restaurants would offer similar fare. Considering we drove over 1 1/2hrs to get there I left somewhat disappointed."

  • "Enjoyed a meal with friends on a Saturday night. Food excellent, not your "normal" pub food; more like fine dining. Service very attentive and the staff try very hard to please. Wine list very good also. Coffee chocolates superb. Atmosphere very nice; informal but not sloppy. Great place. Not cheap, about £75 each for 3 courses with wine, but well worth it. I'd rather do one visit here than two to somewhere charging half the price!"

  • "I've eaten here two or three times before, and it gets better and better. Since Heston did away with an a la carter at the Duck next door, this place has upped its game to take the Heston-lite brigade who don't fancy thenTheatre of Food menu ( and more fool them, because that is a lifetime's highlight as well ). The service here is out of this world, with young and knowledgeable staff ( we heard them being tested on the menu before they opened! ) , who love their jobs and love their customers. The food is simply wonderful. The veal and the Quaking Pudding have convinced me to go back ASAP. The Earl Grey and Gin cocktail was sumptuously made. Fab. Unmissable."

  • "not the best place if one has dietary constraints (like me) - it turned out that I could only have one option in the main courses - fish and i do not really like fish. unlike some other places, this restaurant offers no flexibility in adjusting the courses by removing/substituting the ingredient concerned (garlic in my case) as most sources are re-prepared . And this is despite the fact that I have noted this at the booking hoping they could accommodate. My partner enjoyed his meal though."
