A word from The Hinds Head - Bray
We’re located in a listed 15th-century building nestled in the heart of the pretty village of Bray, near Maidenhead in Berkshire. Our ambience is that of a local village pub, offering you a warm welcome, exceptional, friendly service and outstanding food.
Our restaurant menus offer a combination of traditional seasonal cuisine and historic British dishes, all designed by our owner, chef Heston Blumenthal. Heston's quest for excellence in taste and flavour is combined with Head Chef Kevin Love's respect and love of fresh seasonal produce, to create a menu of British favourites in harmony with the building's Tudor origins.
Our bar area is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a light snack, accompanied by locally sourced guest ales and a carefully selected wine list.

Diner Reviews
  • "We visited The Hind's Head on Sunday the 6th of Juky and our entire experience was excellent. I had the Oxford tail and kidney pudding which was deliciously intense and rich in flavour as was the banana and custard quaking pudding. We would consider going back more often if we lived in that area but it would be something for a special occasion since we actually live in Wales. Highly recommend it!"

  • "I took my husband to the Hinds Head to celebrate his 40th birthday. We were impressed with every little detail - from the lovely welcome by the front of house (which included an invitation for my husband to sample the ales before he chose one), to our friendly and knowledgeable waiter and, of course, the food itself. Each course was perfect and exactly as described. My dessert, the 'quaking' banana and custard, was one of the nicest and most moreish things that I have ever eaten and I loved the little touch of giving me a card that explained the origins of the method for making it. The food was excellent value, considering the quality, portion size and beautiful presentation. It may have been a 'pub' lunch, but it was a pretty special one."

  • "Great food and a nice atmosphere. The menu is Heston at his best."

  • "Enjoyed a meal with friends on a Saturday night. Food excellent, not your "normal" pub food; more like fine dining. Service very attentive and the staff try very hard to please. Wine list very good also. Coffee chocolates superb. Atmosphere very nice; informal but not sloppy. Great place. Not cheap, about £75 each for 3 courses with wine, but well worth it. I'd rather do one visit here than two to somewhere charging half the price!"

  • "A very enjoyable family lunch after a race at Dorney Lake - our 18 month-old was well catered for as were her parents!"

  • "The sunday lunch was perfect. Was kept waiting for a few minutes when entering the pub, but once we had been seated the service was impeccable and not in the least overbearing which can be the case at place like this. Fresh baked bread was delicious as was the duck terrine to start (although I have had better and bigger posh scotch eggs). The roast was perfectly proportioned for a three course meal, and the meat was just right. Lovely 'Blumenthalesque' touches such as the horseradish sauce and crackling. Deserts were interesting and not too heavy. High recommended!"

  • "not the best place if one has dietary constraints (like me) - it turned out that I could only have one option in the main courses - fish and i do not really like fish. unlike some other places, this restaurant offers no flexibility in adjusting the courses by removing/substituting the ingredient concerned (garlic in my case) as most sources are re-prepared . And this is despite the fact that I have noted this at the booking hoping they could accommodate. My partner enjoyed his meal though."

  • "I booked this restaurant as a wedding anniversary and had high expectations after a recommendation from a friend. Whilst I was aware it wasn't the fat duck, I did expect a bit more considering the Heston brand. The staff were first class and our waitress had an excellent knowledge of all the dishes and gave us historical facts about the dishes. However the food was distinctly gastro pub esc and most local restaurants would offer similar fare. Considering we drove over 1 1/2hrs to get there I left somewhat disappointed."

  • "I've eaten here two or three times before, and it gets better and better. Since Heston did away with an a la carter at the Duck next door, this place has upped its game to take the Heston-lite brigade who don't fancy thenTheatre of Food menu ( and more fool them, because that is a lifetime's highlight as well ). The service here is out of this world, with young and knowledgeable staff ( we heard them being tested on the menu before they opened! ) , who love their jobs and love their customers. The food is simply wonderful. The veal and the Quaking Pudding have convinced me to go back ASAP. The Earl Grey and Gin cocktail was sumptuously made. Fab. Unmissable."

  • "Although known for the food it was the outstanding service that stayed longest in the memory. Super table, slightly raised and in a semi-private alcove opposite the main entrance. Ask for this one! Food excellent as always. Don't miss the famous scotch eggs appetiser."

  • "Five of us had Sunday lunch at The Hinds Head - first visit for two of us. Another wonderful eating experience for all. We had been alerted on their website to the withdrawal of triple cooked chips due to the excessive sugar content of potatoes during the summer season (first time I have come across that!). We shared three scotch eggs to start with - lovely freshly cooked quails egg oozing out. Between us we had the roast beef (wonderfully tender) with Yorkshire pudding and a lovely gravy, delicious roast potatoes and vegetables; macaroni and mushrooms; shepherds pie; and the roast pork and crackling, also with the roast potatoes and vegetables. For desserts we had the chocolate tart and lemon curd tart - all delicious. We will be back."

  • "Outstanding starters and main courses, although most desserts were not to the same standard. Not inexpensive, but outstanding service from enthusiastic young people. Good "pub" ambience, but with plenty of room between tables. We shall return!"

  • "The food at the Hind Head was delightful however you need to request to sit in the old part of the pub when booking I discovered. We were sat in the middle if the room -2 of us with a view if all the coats/prams only. Not what you expect when you are spending upwards of £130 for a pub lunch !!"

  • "The service at the Hinds Head was faultless, we arrived early, had cocktails in the bar and then moved into the restaurant for dinner. Nothing was rushed and our waiter was attentive without being there all the time. The food was superb. This was a special treat for my husband’s birthday and I would definitely recommend it for special occasions."

  • "Having dined previously in restaurant we requested table in main restaurant rather than in upstairs dining area much better ambience food was good but main courses were disappointing with fillet steak not tender no comparison with the Meat Company at Westfield which sets a very high standard We were looking forward to the triple cooked chips but these were not not on menu"

  • "Came for lunch earlier this week expecting great things as a one of Heston Blumenthal's restaurants/Michelin star, was unfortunately disappointed. We had to wait quite a while for any service, and had to ask someone if they could help us. Although, our waiter was very kind and helpful with any questions on the menu when we asked. Ham hock and rabbit terrine starter was good but main course (mackerel and pea shoots) was slightly disappointing. The chips were lukewarm and not 'french fries' as labelled! Good vegetables (carrots, beans with smoked almonds). Overall, ok but wouldn't recommend it for a special lunch, what you'd expect for the prices you're paying."

  • "we were celebrating my daughters birthday and they did ask previously was there a occasion ...she got a card!!!! food and flavours were all lovely but my daughters steak had to be sent back as it was all fat (my husband had the same and his was perfect) second steak was ok at £33!! it was an experience but not sure i would go back >"

  • "Here is a place with the casual appeal and atmosphere, but where you have no doubt as to the intricate detail and impressive expertise that has gone into preparing a robustly English menu made up of stonkingly tasty grub! The hash of snails was very flavourful; the oxtail and kidney pudding was supremely intense and the warm chocolate pudding was decadent and satisfyingly oozy. Hurrah!"

  • "Me and two old friends met at the Hinds Head for dinner on Monday, 16/6 - a long awaited evening out (3 years!). Although the starters were fine, my two friends both went for the fish dish, Sea Bream with Samphire - unfortunately, it was far too salty - the waitress was very sweet, but only offered another dish from the menu - by this time it was too late to await another main course, so they ploughed on but neither could finish the fish, chips were good (extra), but that was it. I had the mushroom macaroni, also salty, but edible. After pudding, the waitress explained that the chef had tried the dish, and agreed that it was far too salty, and the dishes and bar drinks were taken off the bill. Ultimately, really rather disappointing!"

  • "To support the great food, service was exceptional. Often celebrity chef restaurants rely on their reputations and service can be poor but that certainly was not the case here. They also coped very well with my mother's limited diet."

  • "My husband ordered the rib eye for lunch which was unfortunately cold, I ordered the sea bass which was very tasty but overpriced as there was no vegetables served with it."

  • "We wanted to go somewhere special for Father's Day and this was it and very local. Food was excellent other than the portion size particularly the roast beef which was two small and very thin slices.....tasted wonderful.....the little gravy boats which were cute had a skin forming on the gravy so been in boat for a while , yet again tasted wonderful. The drinks we asked for before the meal in the bar....a Hendricks g and t arrived with no gin in it! So they were taken back.....the children wanted another drink during the meal these never arrived and we had to ask 3 times. Eventually they came once the food was consumed and the manager came and saw us when the bill arrived to say these soft drnks had been taken off....whoopi woo !"

  • "8 friends and I ate here on Saturday lunch time. originally we were due to sit on two separate tables as they could not accommodate us one one but then they squeezed us together. The scotch eggs we ate at the bar were amazing as were the bloody mary's with enough interest in them you could tell they were Heston's. The starers and desserts were presented beautifully, again as you would expect, the main meals however were large and quite clumsy, traditional pub fare which jarred with the starters and mains. My meal was also misordered so had to wait 20 minutes, by which time the sides were gone or had gone cold and I had lost my appetite, I was not offered this meal free, they did give us our teas and coffees free, I didn't even have one!"

  • "I was taken here by my Girlfriend to celebrate my Birthday on a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon in June and had an amazing time. I received a nice hand signed Birthday card by the friendly staff once seated and during our stay enjoyed one of the best lunches I've had in a LONG time. The atmosphere was great, not pretentious at all, lively, but not raucous. Food menu was amazing (some delicious dishes!) and beautiful wine to match (I'd recommend the "99 Rows" New Zealand Pinot Noir). Highly recommended!."

  • "The evening was to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary , it was a superb evening . The two standout features are the service and the food . We were looked after by Daniel who I must say was absolutely excellent , he was able to describe drinks , dishes and wine choices with competence and enthusiasm . Our choices were guided by him and my wife and I enjoyed every morsel of delicious food and drop of wine . A truly memorable experience , highly recommended we shall return ."

  • "A lovely old pub ambience complete with low level beams, so watch your head! A small dining area with a polished, informal feel perfect for a romantic lunch or catch up with friends. Superb cocktails to start and a lovely menu, delicious simple dishes with a Heston twist. The staff were knowledgeable, attentive not intrusive, and friendly. Will be coming up with many reasons to return!"

  • "While the Fat Duck remains a culinary ambition, the Hind's Head was always billed as a far more accessible, but nonetheless impressive lunch destination. We certainly didn't leave disappointed. Despite Heston's best efforts to keep this place true to it's origins as a rural rustic pub, with original features and relaxed atmosphere, this place is anything but ordinary. Stellar starters, incredible mains and stunning desserts. Everything you could hope for from a Heston experience, just without the full fan fair and fireworks. A truly memorable lunch and somewhere I'll continue to recommend."

  • "Our experience at The Hinds Head was outstanding. The staff are great and very knowledgeable of the menu and beverages. The food was beautifully cooked and well presented. We would recommend the venue for anyone looking to have a fantastic meal with great service and all at a really good price. Thank you to all those at The Hinds Head."

  • "After visiting last year with my foodie daughters we decided to come back this year with the whole family for a birthday treat Sunday lunch. Given it was a Sunday lunch it was suitable for the plain eating males of the family. Starters and desserts were great and everyone enjoyed them. Main courses roasts were a bit disappointing (most of us had roast beef or pork, there was also one steak and one vegetarian) and I felt we could have got similar to the roasts in a regular pub and better in some. The plates came out with the meat on which did not look that appetising - maybe it had sat for a while. There were dishes of mixed veg which were too salty and were swimming in butter. Did not match the standard of the other courses."

  • "Great meal with great food and amazing cocktails. We arrived early and were seated in the dining area which was a bit quiet but the atmosphere in the bar was much better. Friendly and chatty staff but remained professional made us feel very welcome"

  • "I'm not a foodie by a long way, but the Hinds Head is the sort of place would easily turn me into one. Incredible high quality food, service that met with our expectations. "

  • "We have visited the Hinds Head on several occasions and this review reflects our last visit only. The starters were up to their usual high standard but that's where it ended. My wife is allergic to apple and parsley, this was reflected in our booking notes and confirmed by the waitress at the start of the evening. When my wife's main course arrived with parsley clearly and liberally sprinkled over her fish course we asked the waitress to sort out, then we waited meanwhile our other diners meals going cold. Fast forward 10 minutes and reminding the waitress we are still waiting. Her response, chef says its "chives" now call me and my fellow dinners old fashioned but we all can tell the difference between the two! Then the argument ensued!!!"

  • "Staff very welcoming and friendly. Helpful suggestion made for non-alcoholic strawberry 'mock tail', which was delicious. We had high expectations of the food and overall it was good. The scotch egg starter was excellent. Unfortunately, the rib-eye steak was very fatty and difficult to eat. We fed this back to the kitchen and the service charge was removed from our bill. The vegetables and triple cooked chips were all good and the orange marmalade ice cream was delicious. But we left the restaurant feeling slightly disappointed. We had hoped for something very special, but the steak let us down. "

  • "Without trying to sound pretentious, I have been fortunate enough to eat at some if the worlds bests restaurants but the Hinds Head in Bray is by far my favorite. The Oxtail and Kidney pudding is exquisite, the knowledge that the front of house staff have is impeccable and the Hungarian manager made all of my family feel like royalty. This is a true british treasure. 11/10 every visit"

  • "I eat at The Hinds Head regularly, and I keep coming back. My high expectations are always met and more often than not exceeded. I take everyone I know there given the chance. I've never had even an 'average' meal there, not have my dining partners; and I've gone through the menu many times over! It's like a second home and I'm already looking forward to going back next week!."
