A word from The Jugged Hare
Head chef, Stephen Englefield, takes charge of the open kitchen, adding an element of theatre to the dining room, which is complete with a state-of-the-art eight-spit rotisserie and charcoal grill, expect to seasonal game such as haunch of venison, mallard and wild boar. Hearty feast menus, available for parties and families, and a selection of traditional Sunday roasts, from whole roasted suckling pig to leg of spring lamb, will make The Jugged Hare an ideal weekend destination too. Wild fish and shellfish handpicked at Billingsgate will also feature strongly on the menu. The hottest seats are located at the pass - pull up a stool to see Stephen and his brigade in action.
For those looking for a traditional pub environment, head to the bar with its display of exclusively sourced antique British taxidermy, traditional anaglypta wallpaper ceiling and original oak whisky barrel high tables and chairs.

I dined at the Jugged Hare with my wife, daughter and her boyfriend on a Friday evening. The bar and restaurant were both busy and buzzed with conversation, creating a relaxed and informal atmosphere. The place was decorated with taxidermy which added to the ambience of this venue which specialises in game. Our food was tasty; I had the best burger I have ever eaten and the chips were sublime! The portion sizes were just right as the food is rather rich so by the time our desserts arrived we need to be rolled out of the restaurant. Our lovely Irish waitrose was attentive and friendly. We couldn't have asked for more and we will definitely return to this fabulous place.

Pork terrine, followed by beef rump Sunday roast with all the trimmings and then mud pie with salted caramel ice cream. Tough to beat for a Sunday afternoon feed! The restaurant was busy during the lunchtime service but the staff remained upbeat and attentive. Very impressive and certainly one to visit again, even if just to enjoy another spicy bloody Mary.

Two of us had grouse and two had jugged hare, both excellent . starters were all good too. The service was friendly but a bit haphazard , I think the waiter was new. Pity about the noise levels though, it took the edge of the evening and turned what could have been an excellent evening into just a good one.

The Jugged Hare is by far the best place to eat in the neighbourhood if you like game. Excellent service, great food, good choice of wine. A big noisy at times, but a warm atmosphere which is lovely during winter times...

The waiter spoilt our meal with his snotty attitude, rolling his eyes and walking off when we spent too long over the wine menu and being generally disdainful. He couldn't be bothered to explain why the burger only came medium to well done. The fennel and watercress soup had no flavour at all, it just tasted of cream and water. The main courses were good, but I suspect a lot of salt was used as we were both incredibly thirsty afterwards. I have eaten at the Jugged Hair before, a few years ago, when the atmosphere and food were a lot better.

Stumbled upon this when searching for a meat oriented business lunch. Loved the decor - not so much the animal heads, but the rest of it made it look pristine and different to other places. Didn't feel stuffy at all which some meat places can. Service really good. 2 things weren't available but we were told at the beginning - plenty to choose from so not an issue. I asked for assistance on white wine and was given 2 small glasses of different ones to taste. After choosing 1, I was then brought another 2 different ones to try, just to be sure! Food was excellent - the carnivore I took praised it heartily, so that's good enough for me. Buzzing bar that we had drinks in afterwards and good service from the bar staff too.

Any criticism would be minor, good communication and reassurance about the booking, and on arrival they where relaxed about our table time which was appreciated as it gave us time to meet up and chat in the bar for a while longer. Nice meet & greet, very efficient lady restaurant manager on our day, our waitress was very pleasant and attentive, though there was an older guy when it came to bringing plates to our table who's manner was just the wrong side of 'offish' which was a slight pity! He needs to leave his attitude at the door on the way into work in a service industry. Would recommend with reservations.

Very lively, or some will say noisy. The food is generally sophisticated, apart from puddings. Somewhat 80% of menu are game. So if you don't like game, don't bother. If you like it, it will be worth going. Two puddings we ordered were too sweet and couldn't finish. The starter s and mains were tasty. Portion will vary, so you'd better ask. Service also varied, some very good, others rather rude. Exhibitions in the stairs to washroom are too gross for me... The mains are quite pricy, too. It is an extremely popular restaurant, so Inguess there are other charms I didn't notice.

We have been here for Sunday lunch so were very disappointed with our meal on Saturday. The main issue was that the food was too salty and so unpalatable. My husband had the steak and it was of less than average quality. Little atmosphere and not so busy. Have been to better places.

I ate here a few months ago and the food was very good. Last time service was generally very good, other than one stroppy waitress. This time, the monkfish was overcooked and when we complained we were offered fresh plates - but since some of our party were already eating we asked for complimentary desserts instead, which they willingly gave us.

Excellent food, Beer and Wines were served to our table. We were 5 people (2 female and 3 males) All the food was enjoyed and consumed. Only little draw back was that a group of people (mixed) were allowed into the eating part of the restaurant when they were visibly and audibly fairly drunk!

A short notice call to find somewhere new near Spitalsfields and Bricklane markets for Sunday lunch was answered by the impressive looking ingredients of the Jugged Hare menu. Good produce sourced from the clean, green pastures of my native Cumbria came at a price premium, but it was well worth it. The seasonal game option - Red Grouse from the Yorkshire Moors - was brilliantly done, while my guest's Longhorn Beef was full of deep flavour and melt-in-the-mouth texture. Table service was a little slow, although that could be forgiven due to the number of covers and few staff, who when at your table were polite, courteous and eager to make your experience as enjoyable as possible. The taxidermy provided some eye-catching conversation too.

Had dinner at 8.00pm last Sunday. We were 5. Received an email the day before asking for confirmation of the booking and a call the morning of the meal. I'd booked for 5 people. On arrival at the allotted time, I was told that the table wasn't ready and was directed to the bar area. I returned to the reception area 20 minutes later to be told that the table hadn't been vacated by the previous diners. I told the 'receptionist' that this was unacceptable and asked for another table… 3 minutes later we were directed to a table. The food was rather expensive with a number of items not available.

Because I was at an event next door, I ended up at The Jugged Hare two evenings in a row. Both beautifully prepared and presented.

Visited this restaurant at 7pm on a Friday, good service (and booked on the day). Food is fairly pricey but very good. Would highly recommend the purple potatoes as a side, DELICIOUS. At any rate it doesn't feel much more expensive than most restaurants in Central London - however the portions are very small. Will probably try the jugged hare next time (just for the sake of it), stuck to a safe cod option this time. Squeamish visitors might not like it as there is some impressive taxidermy in the windows. There's a 2-hour limit but this wasn't problematic for my dad and me, I assume it's more flexible for large groups. Overall, I'd recommend it for an occasion when you don't mind splashing out a little more, the food is worth it.

The Jugged Hare has got it right, amazing menu of traditionally british food, amazingly well prepared, simply presented, quality but not stuffy service, and a relaxed dining atmosphere that makes you feel welcome. If there was any small criticism it would be that the price points seem a little high, but once you have eaten you realise that you are paying for the quality produce, and the skilled chefs preparing the meals. Would recommend and will be back.

Great restaurant and ambiance. Staff were very attentive - knowledgeable about the menu and pleasant. Food menu broad and interesting - very meaty (but that didn't put me off as a pescetarian!) I ate kiln smoked salmon - very tasty and served with an imaginative salad. My friend had a baby chicken with a lovely salad. The other diner, a teenager, had a huge pie which was very generously filled with tender meat. There were a couple of vegetarian options (although the over all restaurant may not appeal to all vegetarians). A good wine selection also. Would definitely go again.
