By nature neither of us are 'going out' kind of people, but for our 20th we wanted something special to mark this amazing milestone...and by choosing the Laughing Gravy, we achieved something special! The prices on the menu at first seemed a little high, but by the end, it was worth every penny. The service was faultless...made to feel welcome from the start. The menu was quite small, but the choice was enough. The food was beautiful through every course. Not huge portions, but there was just enough.the prices are a little steep when you read the menu...but by the end of the meal you realise.it is worth every penny. Please remember to tip the staff, they deserve it for the service they provide. Excellent!

The food was good and we really enjoyed it. However the let down was the service. Everything was too slow, waited for the starters forever and didn't even had bread available. Could see other tables had been served and finished and the food still took long. The waitress done two mistakes with our orders and not even a rectification in the bill. The drinks took far too long to be served. The bill came up quite expensive as well in the end.

We chose this place due to the convenient location and the previous good reviews, and were very impressed. We were a group of four adults and one toddler, and were made to feel very welcome. The meals (inc. Sunday roasts) were excellent, and the desserts amongst the best I've had. Would definitely return, and recommend.

I came here for an anniversary dinner, and so was after something special, without being super pricey. I was not disappointed, staff were lovely, great with information about the menu - food and wine - and attentive without being in our faces. The restaurant had a lovely cosy, not too bright relaxed atmosphere, and the food was amazing - beautifully presented and impressively delicious. I've been telling everyone, and fully intend to return.

Booked the restaurant based on location, was called by friendly-sounding chap to confirm booking, offered directions but I'd just been to recce. Arrived spot on 8, service very attentive, good conversation, relaxed atmosphere. Food was very good, and the house wine was spot-on! Sadly only had time for starters and main, time to 930 went very quickly. We would want to go back with more time to spare, and enjoy a three course meal next time!

Great food, but the service was not quite there. We arrived 15 minutes earlier than our reservation to a half-empty restaurant and were asked to wait. After 15 minutes, our party of three was finally given a table for 2... The restaurant remained half empty and there were plenty of larger and more comfortable tables available. We had a chat about it with one of the waiters. It seems this restaurant is in need of a new dining room manager. A pity, really!

Several years ago a good friend told me how much she'd enjoyed The Laughing Gravy. Actually, that's an understatement - she gave it a full-on, five-star rave. So I'm kicking myself that I didn't pay more attention and high-tail it down there way back then. Sitting on a nondescript street a stone's throw from the Old Vic, this place is a gem - the staff are wonderfully welcoming and helpful, the decor is the quintessence of smart-casual and the incredible food makes you wish you could order everything on the menu. Twice. I can't wait until my next visit - and I certainly won't wait years to make it.

Arriving in London after a long flight it was comforting that our first meal in the area that evening was so enjoyable. From greeting to service everyone was friendly and informative. The food was delicious and presentation was first rate. It was a short walk from our hotel and made for a relaxing evening. This place is a little gem and should not be missed if you are staying in the South Bank /Waterloo area.

Dinner for 6 for a celebration with friends. A varied selection of interesting menu choices that would appeal to most tastes and a decent and inexpensive wine list. Cosy ambiance but without cramping tables too close together. Downsides? Well the cheeseboard was disappointing consisting of just the one cheese, and although pre warned that the table might be required after 2 1/2 hours, we were somewhat surprised to be asked to vacate the table despite no=one else waiting. We continued with drinks in the bar, and for a further hour the table remained unused. That shouldn't detract from the quality of the menu choices, food and service, but annoying enough to mark it down from 5 stars to 4.

This restaurant offers a modern take on British classics. You come to get delicate flavours, inventive dishes that draws inspiration on the roots of this country's classic dishes but with the culinary skills of a new generation of chefs willing to take risks and mixup tastes and tradition. Beautifully presented dishes that are masterfully prepared, in a relaxed but somewhat upscale settings and prices. (For example, appetizer, dish ,2 glasses of wine, bottle of fizzy water, no desert for around 50£) The waiters are in jeans but this is not a simple gastropub; on the otherhand it's not a high end stuffy toxedo restaurant. you pay for fresh food made with care in a totally nice simple down to earth decor.

The Laughing Gravy is in an unlikely spot for a cracking little restaurant, but that played to my advantage as it is just round the corner for me! They had listened to my request for a quiet corner for me and my elderly mother, and even came to check during the meal that the music wasn't too loud. The choice was good but not excessive and really very good range of veggie Options. I had lamb with broad bean piccalilli and a parsnip dumpling, in a rich sauce. The flavours were very clear and delicious and the range of textures really striking. My dessert was a almond crumble with peach and plums. The fruit was beautifully cooked and the combination excellent.

Three of us went for an early meal (7pm). Staff were very welcoming and gave us an outside table as requested. The food was lovely with good choices for the veggie, in fact that we had two veggie mains. Lemon Sole was perfectly cooked with tasty but not overpowering sauce. Outside was nicely designed but the road noise was quite loud - nothing the restaurant can do about that in spite of having high wrap fence around the tables. Ironically it is probably quieter when the traffic is busier and slower so I would book inside next time. Inside is simple with high ceiling to the rear space - nice airy feel Staff attentive but not intrusive and knowledgeable about wine choices. Close to Young Vic and an easy stroll from Waterloo station.

This was generally a thoroughly enjoyable meal, the service, starters and sweet all good. The only thing they let themselves down on was when requesting a well done burger a very underdone burger arrived- they offered to take it and further cook it- back but as we all know the only way to cook a well done burger is slowly, rather disappointedly they then still charged for it. However that aside, and lets be kind and call it an aberration, it was good.

The Laughing Gravy was such a pleasant surprise. The menu exceeded expectations and although slightly above average in terms of price it was worth it for seasonal and properly prepared ingredients. The service was very good and we were advised when ordering the Venison Wellington that it takes a bit longer so the meat can rest - it was totally worth the wait. The design of the restaurant makes it quite noisy so I wouldn't recommend for a quiet night for two but on a Friday after a visit to the Tate it was just right. Will definitely go again.
