  • Lovely venue but food a little disappointing

I often go to this restaurant - the special is really good value. The service is always excellent and the surroundings lovely - but the food on this occasion was disappointing. I ordered the soup which was tasteless and a chicken and bean main course in which there was so much salt it was almost inedible - and I like salt with my meals. My colleagues enjoyed their pork but their meal was very rich and with little vegetable to counteract the heaviness. I will still return - this is the first time we have been disappointed with our meals.

From the moment you enter the hotel lobby the experirnce begins. Turn left and ahead you'll walk the 100 paces to be greeted by the restaurant staff. Freedom to chose your table, we had the window seat ( the restaurant is on ground floor level). High quality from the napkins to the staff , to the menu , to the surroundings. We chose the two course - starter and main. Free half bottle each of an excellent wine. Bread baked that morning on the premises kicked off our lunch. Take your time or let time take you , it's an ideal venue to get away from retail unit type restaurants peppered all over the West End to relax away from the crowds but just a hop, skip and jump off the western end of Oxford Street in a leafy , London square setting.

Located in the lounge area of the Churchill Hotel, so very smart but definitely not romantic or intimate. They seem to have a sort of team approach to the service and quite frankly it was very good. Attentive and friendly without being intrusive, full marks on that front. Food was relatvely simple but excellent. Wife had pork belly and I had grilled tiger prawns cooked in mild spices. Other dishes on the menu included steaks/burgers and fish and chips. The tiger prawns were £34 pounds plus £3.50 each for chips and green beans. Thats £41 for grilled tiger prawns so not cheap. Starters £8 to £11, £5.00 for a coffee. But - you are in a 5* hotel in a terrific London location. Would definitely eat there again.

The restaurant is beatifully appointed. The kitchen and dining area is open plan by design and works very well. The fixed menu that was available at the time of our reservation was varied, quite extensive and delivered good value for money. The waiting staff were very efficient, attentive but not obtrusive. The overall ambience, the food, the service and the sublime piano playing, provided a very special dining experience.

My friends and I were celebrating a special birthday. The staff were all very friendly and made a point of chatting to the birthday girl which made her feel very special, they even provided some mini cakes and a rendition of happy birthday on the piano. The food was lovely and such good value, i would really recommend this restaurant for a special occassion

Would definitely recommend The Montague for afternoon tea. hree of the group went for for the Sex and the City tea and one for the traditional afternoon team. Both were excellent with a good variety of food and topped up till we could eat no more. Staff mentioned right at by the start that you can have a refill for free. Service was very good and weren't rushed at all - were there for 3 hours! Relaxing way to spend an afternoon

The meal was for a special birthday celebration, three course dinner plus a glass of champagne for £28. A pianist was playing on arrival, the staff were polite and asked where we wished to sit. It's an open plan restaurant with a street view and the chefs were cooking the food at the end of the room, with a bar to one side, very select surroundings, only a few guests so it was nice and peaceful. The food was very tasty, not massive portions but sufficient. Unlike some other places, there was no cover charge and plenty of bread and butter. As it was my birthday, they presented two little cup cakes with a candle, and a box to take away. The way the bill was worked out was strange but the amount was basically correct. A great experience!

We were staying close by and wanted something easy, so we walked over. Had the choice of the bar or restaurant in the Hyatt; chose Montagu. Glad we did. Had the Pork Belly - totally fantastic (but a very large portion and unfortunately couldn't finish). However, we somehow managed to find room for the strawberry dessert. So glad we did! Highly recommend!

i booked this restaurant for catching up with friends. The service and ambience was great! We were offered with bread and butter upon arrival - I am very impressed with the quality of the bread! It was warm and moist, it was obvious that it was freshly made in the kitchen. We liked our starters, which was light and refreshing. For the main course, the corn-fed chicken surprised me as it was minced chicken meat wrapped in bacon - pretty creative. The pork belly was a bit greasy my friend thought.... We went with the offer and was given a bottle of wine to share among three of us. Overall, we really had a great time there!

Toured the UK for 17 days. Started and ended in London. We stayed in the Marble Arch area. We liked this restaurant so much the first visit that we went a second time on our return. We had the very reasonable prix fixe again. One of us had Gloucestershire "Old Spot Pork” appetizer and the other the “Ragstone Goat's Cheese Mousse” appetizer. Our mains were Chicken Ballotine and Beer battered Fish and Chips. Desserts were the Eaton Mess and an Elderflower Crème Brule. Service again knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend it… again.

I went as a group of 4 ladies for afternoon tea, 2 of us had the SATC tea which was so nice, and 2 had the standard which they liked. We were offered free refills and just had generally really good service. We were offered to change up anything we didn't like that was on the menu too. Will go back for sure -any afternoon tea that includes mini 'jack bergers' and a Flirtini is winning in my book!

Hyatt Montague: Our first night of 17 touring the U.K. We had an excellent dinner at Hyatt Montague. Three course prix fixe with a glass of bubbly for 25 pounds. A mixed salad, a Ragstone Goat's Cheese Mousse, a Ballotine of Chicken, (we returned a second time and tried the Beer Battered Cod and chips). For dessert we had a Bramley Apple Sticky Toffee and an Eton Mess (strawberries, cream and meringue). Close to Oxford St. in the Marble Arch area. The restaurant is lovely. The service polished and friendly. The food tasted great and presentation was really nice. As mentioned earlier we liked it enough to go back a second time when we returned to London. Definitely recommend it.

Me and a friend had a very enjoyable tasty meal served by friendly and helpful staff in good surroundings. We went for the £25 menu including three courses and a half bottle wine and found this to be excellent value. There are several choices you are allowed from the main menu for each course including my favourite the belly pork. All courses were good and nicely presented. We had a half bottle of white Rioja and a half bottle of Italian red between us. White Rioja is not my favourite but I enjoyed the red. I will certainly be going back again in the future.

Sunday Brunch at The Montagu was a pleasant way to spend a rainy afternoon. The champagne flowed non-stop and the service was impeccable. Perhaps the only slight flaw was the hot food. The hotel bar was chic and the staff exceptionally helpful. Enjoyed the terasse which requires pre booking. No problem when we spent longer there and delayed our table reservation. The interior of the Montagu was also low key but sophisticated. Service was excellent throughout. Good variety of options for the pre set menu. My only quibble was that the chicken option involved rather more bacon and that the chicken itself was not tasty. Will enjoy going again to the Montagu!

We went there for Valentines Day, and we went again for my girlfriends birthday meal, and the food was still as good as it was before. It might not look like much, but it is very filling and the flavours you get are strange at first, but at the end, are really good. For two courses each, we paid £76. It's certainly not cheap, but you are paying for a lovely experience. I would visit again.

A shame that what was billed as a good dining experience turned out to be average at best and disappointing. The goats cheese mousse though nicely presented was nothing special just tasted like cream cheese from the American state of Philadelphia. The steak was extremely tasty but vastly overpriced at 34£ and came on the plate all on its own- not even a bit of garnish. We did try some ice cream from their vegan menu, this I feel is an acquired taste- to me it tasted like a mixture of dental powder and wet sand- not for me I am afraid. Having said that all power to the restaurant for having an extensive vegan menu a specialism that will please a lot of people.
