Diner Reviews
  • "i booked this restaurant for catching up with friends. The service and ambience was great! We were offered with bread and butter upon arrival - I am very impressed with the quality of the bread! It was warm and moist, it was obvious that it was freshly made in the kitchen. We liked our starters, which was light and refreshing. For the main course, the corn-fed chicken surprised me as it was minced chicken meat wrapped in bacon - pretty creative. The pork belly was a bit greasy my friend thought.... We went with the offer and was given a bottle of wine to share among three of us. Overall, we really had a great time there!"

  • "I went as a group of 4 ladies for afternoon tea, 2 of us had the SATC tea which was so nice, and 2 had the standard which they liked. We were offered free refills and just had generally really good service. We were offered to change up anything we didn't like that was on the menu too. Will go back for sure -any afternoon tea that includes mini 'jack bergers' and a Flirtini is winning in my book!"

  • "The restaurant is nice but is not closed off from the hotel lobby so you feel as if you are part of that. The food was good and probably the best pea and mint soup I've had. I would recommend it but for lunch or early evening, not for romance."

  • "Didn't know there was live music in the restaurant - great surprise. Food however surprised in the other direction - mediocre for a top hotel in london. the TT deal is still gd value however."

  • "excellent menu at good price ..with vegan options..who would have thought!!!!!"

  • "Me and a friend had a very enjoyable tasty meal served by friendly and helpful staff in good surroundings. We went for the £25 menu including three courses and a half bottle wine and found this to be excellent value. There are several choices you are allowed from the main menu for each course including my favourite the belly pork. All courses were good and nicely presented. We had a half bottle of white Rioja and a half bottle of Italian red between us. White Rioja is not my favourite but I enjoyed the red. I will certainly be going back again in the future."

  • "Although the hist/hostess were lovely, the service was appallingly slow. It took forever to get our wine. Twice. The dover sole was fine, the salmon appetizer less so. My guest had a salad and the sea bass which was better than the sole. unfortunately, I would not recommend."

  • "Birthday dinner with family. Delicious, well presented food with great ambience (live piano) and brilliant service. This was my second time at The Montague and will definitely be returning again (especially if they continue their set menus offers)!"

  • "We had a lovely dinner and although I am not vegan I ate from the vegan menu and it was tasty and fresh. Service was excellent and it is a lovely restaurant for a special meal. I thoroughly recommend and also recommend a Martini on the Terrace with Winston afterwards!"

  • "I ate here for the first time with a couple of fiends. It was early Friday evening, and for a good hour we were the only diners. The place was so quiet. We ate from the £25 for three courses + a glass of champagne menu. Very good value. A shame about the lack of clients."
    dined on 25/07/2014
  • "Went last year with a Groupon offer and was very impressed. Wanted to go back again without the offer so we had a choice of whole menu and was not disappointed. Yes, it's little pricey, but the food is lovely, and the service... well what can I say. SUPERB!!"
    dined on 19/07/2014
  • "Sunday Brunch at The Montagu was a pleasant way to spend a rainy afternoon. The champagne flowed non-stop and the service was impeccable. Perhaps the only slight flaw was the hot food. Not very imaginative but good enough. Although this was our first experience of Sunday at The Montagu we have dined there many times during the week and always found it mostt agreeable."

  • "The hotel bar was chic and the staff exceptionally helpful. Enjoyed the terasse which requires pre booking. No problem when we spent longer there and delayed our table reservation. The interior of the Montagu was also low key but sophisticated. Service was excellent throughout. Good variety of options for the pre set menu. My only quibble was that the chicken option involved rather more bacon and that the chicken itself was not tasty. Will enjoy going again to the Montagu!"

  • "I have been here before for a friends birthday and its a great place to have something special for very reasonable price. Never disappointed with the food and the staff are very friendly and accomodating."

  • "We went there for Valentines Day, and we went again for my girlfriends birthday meal, and the food was still as good as it was before. It might not look like much, but it is very filling and the flavours you get are strange at first, but at the end, are really good. For two courses each, we paid £76. It's certainly not cheap, but you are paying for a lovely experience. I would visit again."

  • "Classy venue, top class food, great evening ambience for a meal with one or more friends. Good value for such an elegant restaurant. Service was good, not too intrusive and always available."
    dined on 27/05/2014
  • "A shame that what was billed as a good dining experience turned out to be average at best and disappointing. The goats cheese mousse though nicely presented was nothing special just tasted like cream cheese from the American state of Philadelphia. The steak was extremely tasty but vastly overpriced at 34£ and came on the plate all on its own- not even a bit of garnish. We did try some ice cream from their vegan menu, this I feel is an acquired taste- to me it tasted like a mixture of dental powder and wet sand- not for me I am afraid. Having said that all power to the restaurant for having an extensive vegan menu a specialism that will please a lot of people."
    dined on 21/05/2014
  • "The choices on the special menu were very good. We all enjoyed what we ordered. The service in the bar and restaurant was very good. This was a second visit for an evening meal as it is also very convenient after shopping."

  • "Loved everything about this restaurant. From being warmly greeted when we arrived, to the moment we left, the service was friendly, attentive and very efficient. Excellent choice of dishes, well presented, something to everyone's taste. Champagne glass constantly refilled. Will be visiting again as soon as possible."
    dined on 18/05/2014
  • "Came here for a Groupon deal (Surf & Turf) and as a result of tasting to gorgeous pasta starters, will be planning a return trip to sample more of the traditional Italian dishes. Service was attentive whilst being discrete. Simple & stylish setting. Good selection of Italian wines. Not the cheapest but from what we tasted - worth it. Definitely recommend."

  • "It was lovely to meet up in the Montagu for lunch again, the staff are wonderful, didn't really enjoy the set menu found it very limited for myself it was fine for my friend, I am very fussy with my food and prefer healthy ie not fish & chips or bangers & mash, I had veg option but was hungry an hour later."
    dined on 24/04/2014
  • "We booked a table on a week day evening and we really enjoyed it. The entertainment was great; a pianist was at the far end of the room singing. Our meal was well cooked; we had the belly pork and the chicken followed by the yogurt parfait and chocolate fondant. We will definitely visit again!"

  • "Love this restaurant, Great atmosphere, good very good "

  • "We wanted to spend a lovely afternoon together to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we were pleasantly surprised at the choice the never ending glass of champagne was also well received. I would without hesitation recommend The Montagu for Sunday Brunch."

  • "For the first time the menu at the Churchill disappoints: it never happened before. Choice from a pre-theatre set menu is understandably limited, but still... Vegetarian main course uninspired and unsatisfactory (one egg, five asparagus spears). Starter little different to a slice of gala pie. Fish and chips and chicken better options. Looking forward to this chef finding its oomph again. The service is immaculate and the venue is very discreetly opulent."
    dined on 02/04/2014
  • "Brunch at the Churchill was lovely and the service was impeccable as always. We went for my Mum's pre birthday celebration and we weren't disappointed. I mentioned it was her birthday in my reservation and they they kindly made a little cup cake for her with happy birthday and the singer at the piano sang happy birthday, it's little touches like this that separate the Churchill from other hotels."
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "We dine here quite a lot, the food, service and ambience are excellent. The staff recognise you and even remember your likes and dislikes. The restaurant overlooks Portman Square which is a nice outlook. Please bring back the Pork, we love it. 3 Courses with bread/butter and a half bottle of wine per diner is excellent value. See you soon Montagu"

  • "We had dinner Saturday night at this restaurant, and were delighted by the food and the staff. You are warmly greeted as you arrive through the hotel and the bar and a great mood is set by the pianist there on Saturdays.I had a delicious lobster bisque with crunchy crab crouton and this was followed by chicken with apricots and sweetheart cabbage in a tasty jus.Our waitress recommended the chocolate fondant dessert, and this was very melt in the mouth as you cut into it with your spoon to release its warm chocolate centre. Our waitress, Franchesca, was charming and attentive, and added to our enjoyment of the evening.A glass of champagne with the set menu makes this very good value indeed, and we would highly recommend it."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "The ambience and food were very good, however the set menu options were quite limited."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "Went with a group of friends to the Montagu for the set early evening menu. Although the choice for the set menu was quite small, everyone found something to their taste and requests for slight amendments to some dishes were accommodated by the staff. The greatest success was the dessert - which technically was not on the set menu but a replacement for the usual one which had run out -it was dark chocolate fondant with morello cherries and pistachio icecream. As the restaurant is just off the reception area of the hotel and residents may need to walk through part of the area to get to their rooms, it is a great place for "people watching" whilst waiting for your friends to arrive!"
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "Saturday night dinner for 3 with Toptable offer, menu is very limited specially for main course, fish & chips, grill chicken breast or band & mash. Fish tasteless and chips undercook. The 2 sauages are ok. Service is good but the restaurant is very noisy. Water is £5 per bottle, tea is also £5. Don’t border if you have to pay the full price. Very disappointed with their food."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "This was a birthday treat and really made the occasion special. The live pianist / singer added to the ambiance. Service was very good and attentive. Food was very tasty, well presented and served in a timely manner - not at all rushed."
    dined on 11/03/2014
  • "What a lovely dinner after a long day of shopping, so close to Marble Arch, but far away enough to be away from the traffic. The deal was good £25 for 3 courses; we were worried that there wasn't going to be enough option, but each course was delicious and really fresh, especially the mains. Must go back for the fish and chips! Only complaint was that the pear starter was very salty. Service was very discreet as well."
    dined on 09/03/2014
  • "Having not been to the restaurant before, the waitresses were very helpful. The service was good throughout, not intrusive in any way, and the food was excellent. As sometimes happens at the weekend in London restaurants, we were not rushed at any stage. I would definetly go back."
    dined on 09/03/2014
  • "This was a top evening - great value – however limited food selection for top table food was delicious - light and spacious bright modem décor house wine was of a high quality - free champagne was also of a high standard"
    dined on 08/03/2014
  • "Chose the Montagu because of the 3 courses for £25 and champagne option. But we ended up ordering a la carte and spending almost twice as much. I went there with 2 friends for a catch-up while we were all in town. We had some oysters to kick off and ordered the beef tartare, duck and scallops to start. I tried a bit of everything (we're very close friends), the beef tartare was good - tasted the truffle in the beef distinctly. With the duck starter and the scallops starter, although there wasn't very much of either was absolutely delicious. For mains, two of us had the black bream, the scallop ceviche underneath the piece of fish was delightful, the fish was well cooked and well seasoned. Dishes were well-executed. Happy to come again."

  • "I had dinner here early Friday evening with the 3 course set menu. The staff are highly professional, attentive and I cannot complement them enough. The food was fantastic, great quality, tasty and good portion sizes. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. I would definitely recommend them."

  • "Were poured champagne without giving us a choice. I prefer wine so drank half a glass and when the waiter came to top up the glass, requested red wine. He informed me that I could not have anything else until I had finished the glass of champagne! I informed him that I had no intention of lining up drinks on the table & felt deeply embarrassed. We are not big drinkers, my total consumption was 1 glass of champagne, 1 glass of red wine and a soft drink. I suspect the waiter was ill informed and I would question going back there now given the £65 price tag for a fairly limited starter buffet (mostly vegetarian), fairly reasonable lunch buffet and desserts. I think if anything, we were better value to them than they were to us!"
