Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I went here for lunch after seeing monty python the evening before and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I had the yellow fin tuna and it was stunning in taste and appearance. The view was lovely and the staff were very helpful and courteous. I shall definitely be back when I am next down in london"

  • "A lovely way to spend a summer evening. Ayala champagne followed by fish and chips with a great British white wine (Chapel Down Bacchus) The service was friendly and attentive and the river view is wonderful."

  • "Very average pub food, we were fooled by the celebrity chef association but certainly not obvious in terms of food, seemed more like heated up frozen meals. Our table was booked at 6pm, the first booking for the evening service and as we were looking at the specials board 2 of the 4 main courses were being taken off! We were able to order them still but why not take them off before guests sit down as not a good first impression. Out of the 6 meals only one could be described as good which was the tuna steak. On a more positive note the location is great, right on the river with wonderful views both ways so worth a visit just for this."

  • "Came here with my sisters for a family get together, very good food im no foodie but it was fantastic. Staff very welcoming and attentive this was on a saturday night and they were busy but service never slipped. Was a bit worried that the narrow may have been a bit pretentious but it was not in the least good food good service ok your gonna pay for it but for that special get together well worth it, i will be back."

  • "Great food and service in a lovely setting, 5 of us ranging in age from 12 to 79 all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We will visit again next time we are in the area"

  • "Overall, a very good experience. Minor grumbles - tables too close so every time the person next to me at the adjoining table moved my chair was jolted (also, hearing too much of that table's conversation than I would have wished) probably caused by several larger parties being in the and the sun was too intense when sitting by the window (better shading required). Food was delicious, well presented and staff attentive in spite of the restaurant being quite full with larger tables. The ever-changing scene on the river, with plenty of activity, made for a great backdrop."

  • "I took my mother here for her birthday and found the view, service and food to be perfect for such an occasion. We really enjoyed the experience."

  • "We have eaten here before of an evening which was lovely. But we decided to have a late lunch this time round... Arrived at 2pm, sat in the conservatory. Although it wasn't a beautiful sunny day, it was still very bright and warm as its right along the Thames. We love this place and will keep coming back and introducing new people. At least once a month..."

  • "We came here with my elderly parents for a treat for them. They had travelled down from Manchester and I have to say they loved the whole experience and are telling everyone how good it was. Needless to say we loved it also."

  • "Over looking the river was lovely, service was good, staff were very efficient and friendly, but the starter of two scallops with a minute piece of haggis for over 10£ was a little steep and the main course was so salty that I couldn't eat it. We did get free desert, but I would have preferred a good main course."

  • "Excellent food, excellent service, a wonderful way to spend an evening. The bar staff were also very knowledgable, creating a cocktail off the back of me listing a few of my favourite spirits. Highly recommended"

  • "After booking this for my wife's Birthday, and being our second visit, we left feeling very disappointed. Arrived early for a drink, and found they charge full pint prices for only 2/3 of a pint. We ordered the Sunday roast. My wife had the pork and I had the beef. What a mistake. The roast potatoes were spongy and dry as if they had been standing and then heated in microwave. The yorkshires were also spongy and burnt. Not one staff member checked to see how meal was, and when I did tell the manager, they brought out more potatoes. This was after we finished our dinner. Deserts were not much better. Dry and tasteless. Think chef likes microwave a little too much. Expected so much better with a name like Gordon Ramsay. Won't be going back."

  • "While the food was very good, the service was too pushy and a bit unfriendly. I've been there now a couple of times and it has always been the same..."

  • "This was the third time I'd eaten at The Narrow, and the service has gone downhill. We had to prompt the waiters to take our orders, top up our tap water (which they failed to do even though we asked three times...) and couldn't find anyone to ask for the bill. The food was fine, but not as good as previous times. After specifically asking if the roast pork came with crackling,it arrived with about 1cm worth of it which was disappointing as it was so good! The location is lovely and has potential to be as good as it had to be-just need to make the food a little more special again and improve service."

  • "From a Gordon Ramsey restaurant I was expecting a little more. Excellent restaurant if you would go for sure only with fish and chips, the best in London."

  • "The service we recieved was outstanding. The food was very good however could have done with a bit more on the plate."

  • "We had a booking but were refused a seat with river view despite the restaurant being very empty and tables available. And told before we sat down when we had to leave our table by, which we could have done without - hardly makes you feel welcome. Menu not very varied but food was good. Choice of ales more limited since last visiy which was disappointing. Overall good experience though - I guess someone has to sit in the back, and service was good."

  • "We had a late 2.30pm lunch here, it was a very quiet Friday and the restaurant was almost empty but despite this the staff were very slow to take our drinks order and we ended up having to order all at once to ensure we were fed, it was not easy getting the lone waitress back to the table from time to time and then someone started to remove speaker and power cabling from the window edge next to us while we were still dining, poor considering that the food is not at all inexpensive, but on a positive note the food was very good indeed, in fact the best fish and chips I have ever had (albeit for 17 quid). The wine list is good and not too expensive and the views of the Thames are of course fantastic even in this more residential stretch."
    dined on 20/06/2014
  • "Fantastic setting. Terrible food and service. Come here for a drink but not for a meal. The staff also kept telling us that we could not sit in most of the nice areas even though they were totally empty for the whole time we were there."

  • "My wife and I chose the Narrow for dinenr before a gig at the nearby Troxy venue. We were given the prime table next to the river and on a fine evening I can't imagine many places in London that are nicer. The food was of excellent standard but the portions were very mean on a couple of dishes. In particular, I ordered the monkfish wrapped in parma ham for a main and what I got was about as thick and long as a cigar. The 3 speaks of asparagus did not make up for this. And for £17 i would have expected a more generous portion. Other dishes were fine and generally the food and service were of a very high standard. Just order soem chips if you go for the monkfish."

  • "I requested a nice table as it was a birthday surprise for my partner, and I wasnt dissappointed. Sat in the convervatory overloooking the river, and even had a happy birthday icecream with a candle presented to us. Delicious food! Service was very polite and friendly, sometimes difficult to get their attention, but this didn't affect us."

  • "This restaurant used to offer fine gastronomy last time I visited about two years ago. This time the sizes of starters were rather economical. I had specifically asked for my tuna steak to be rather raw, it came fully cooked but still lukewarm. Chips on the side were nice at the top, but just the burnt smalls at the bottom. And my double espresso was a coffee, rather than a taut espresso, way too long. Service was attentive, and they did change all the items we complained about. But the food still was uninspiring, not the standard you'd expect at this price level."

  • "Used to love coming here for Sunday lunch until weekend just gone. I emailed them a few days prior to inform them my mum is vegan and would this be a problem they said no they could amend meals to suite her. We got there and was told she could have a roast dinner but without meat and Yorkshire as the potatoes and veg were not roasted in animal fat so my mum ordered this and almost an hour later she was given a plate of cabbage and cauliflower. And we were then told the veg is roasted in animal fat after all so rather than let her know this they served her cabbage and cauliflower it was embarrassing. My chicken was pink also and my sisters was burnt and dry. Waitresses were absolutely clueless so we left very unhappy."

  • "Sunday lunch was superb with fantastic food and service. The colouring pack our daughter was given kept her entertained the whole time we were there allowing us to enjoy our meal. Next time we will be trying the BBQ as good looked superb. First class food in a relaxed child friendly atmosphere"

  • "Decided to try The Narrow as we had enjoyed a lovely New Year's Eve dinner there and kept saying we would like to go back. It was a last minute choice. Friendly staff who kept us informed when the table was slightly delayed, time wise. Food was lovely, only problem was customer on next table who had to wait for their meal so made sure that we were all aware of this and then decided to pick apart his dinner, rather loudly and using expletives. Staff dealt with him sympathetically as well as apologising to us for his behaviour! Pity he couldn't do the same! Lovely setting and would go back again. May try Sunday lunch next time."

  • "8:30 reservation, first food at 9:40. Aside from being incredibly slow, service was also completely inattentive, not bringing more bread, refilling drinks, etc. Had to grab a manager to get a second glass of wine. Food was adequate but nothing special, portions were small. View of the Thames was nice although not all tables have one."
    dined on 14/06/2014
  • "We booked the Narrow for a special occasion, but the service was cool, and the food was average. I had asked for a table in the conservatory (where the best views are), but was given one inside. The mains were nice, but stingy in size and by no means worth the price we paid and the service was distinctly lackluster. i would, however, say that the scallops were excellent and the location is wonderful. If you're in the market for tasty seafood and a view of the shard (if you can get it), then this is as good a choice as any!"
    dined on 14/06/2014
  • "This is a great restaurant right on the river with outside space and open conservatory space which means you don't have to scramble for a few alfresco tables in the sunshine. Starter and pudding was great but I had the burger for my main and this was the wrong choice. You can get amazing burgers in London and this was not one of them - totally overdone and flavourless despite me asking it for medium rare. Unfortunatley the waitress's English was not great and she couldn't really understand my problem with it so in the end I just stuck with it. I will definitley be back, but won't be ordering the burger!"

  • "My daughter and I arrived quite early for our reservation. We checked in and settled in with a couple of drinks. We were made to feel warm and welcome by Mario the manager. He checked in with us and we were seated 15 min before our reserved time and then throughout our 3 course dinner. We ordered off the specials and menu. I was looking forward to the corn soup I had previously and this was my only disappointment that it was no longer on the menu. But everything was wonderful. A great experience as this was a special night out for our time in London to celebrate my daughter graduating from The Art Institute of Austin with a degree in Culinary Management."

  • "Had a recent makeover to look a bit fresher for the summer season. Great outdoor space for a sunny afternoon drink. Not a huge dining area so recommend it's best to book. Lovely Sunday roast - pork or beef both yummy."

  • "Great food and service and in a lovely location right on the river."

  • "My visitors from NZ and I enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch at The Narrow. The roasts were delicious and well portioned but the Monk fish was small in comparison so had to order extra side dishes to accompany it. The Sticky Toffee pudding with the salted ice cream was to die for !!"

  • "The Narrow seems to have undergone a bit of a makeover, and any reference to Gordon Ramsay also seems to have disappeared from the decor. Here's hoping he's planning to hold on to it! For the first time, I try the private dining rooms with my eight colleagues. This proves an almost necessary decision since the noise and buzz in the main dining room make it almost impossible for a large group to hear itself speak. Food is, as always, fantastic. A creamy, yielding burrata is accompanied by the freshest broad beans in a zingy vinaigrette. The showstopper are homemade orecchiette with broccoli, covered in just a sprinkle of the crunchiest breadcrumbs. Divine. The fluffiest Eton mess rounds off my spring feast - try the spring menu!"

  • "Good value for money. Simple menu but done nicely. Swrvice courteous and not overbearing. Could do with a bit of heating in the eve once people go (was a little chilly). Fabulous views!!!! And they did notice my note on booking: my Mr's birthday. Kudos!!"

  • "I'm sure the staff of restaurant on this level must be much more polite at reception, smiling and look after the guests."

  • "I hadn't been here for a while and loved the new décor. Drinks and staff amazing as usual but the food was so-so. The mains where uninspiring. I had the monkfish and it was pretty boring. I think they can do things a lot simpler and tastier. But that's just me. And drop the fish obsession, please, aside from lamb chops, no meat dish to speak of. I get the maritime theme but come on!"

  • "I always bring visitors to The Narrow since it's in the neighbourhood, reasonably priced, offers the Gordon Ramsay reputation and an outdoor dining area with an impressive view of the river (including the Shard). Recently refurbished with casual seating areas for afternoon drinks/coffee. The food is usually good although I would not have the pork dish again - bland and sat on a large portion of uninspiring green peas. My dining companions enjoyed their meal (chicken and duck). Slightly pretentious, but you can't beat the location. Nice spot to meet up anytime day or evening. "

  • "Very disappointed the burger could only be cooked medium-well due to 'health and safety'. Poppycock as there are plenty of restaurants that cook burgers to order and I expect better from Gordon Ramsey. Haddock nicely cooked but soggy batter. Service average and without any smiles or friendliness. Expected more than just an average meal with average service! "

  • "We had lunch at The Narrow on Sunday. A lovely sunny day by the river. The food was delicious, a bit pricey but that included 2 cocktails and a nice bottle of Gavi. The atmosphere was relaxed and we sat for 3 hours chatting, eating and drinking with no pressure to move...a perfect Sunday lunch. It was my second time at The Narrow but I would go again for both the view and the food."
