We'd visited South Lodge on several occasions, and dined in The Camellia Restaurant. We'd heard about The Pass, and decided to try it when we wanted to treat ourselves to a nice lunch; also to find out if it was as good as we imagined, so we'd know if we wanted to bring guests another time. It was certainly a memorable experience: the food was lovely; the staff all very nice - helpful and the service was excellent. We liked being able to voice questions about our meal, if we had any, and getting them answered! Yes, we would like to come again, and wouldn't hesitate to bring friends or family so they could enjoy The Pass too. Thank you very much.

Having dined in the main restaurant at South Lodge previously, The Pass made for a more personal and relaxed environment, even with a Michelin star. Being "in the kitchen", and with few other covers, the overall effect was more intimate in relation to the food and service without being intimidating and was not pretentious. The staff took time to explain the menus and dishes carefully, and were genuinely interested in our feedback on the experience. All very welcome.

Following a recommedation we visted the Pass last sunday for lunch and enjoyed the 6 course lunch with wine flight. The wine waiter was fantastic and really informative about why the wine had been chosen to match the food, which for novices was really entertaining. Everything was superb. When I go out I like to experience a meal that I would not easily be able to produce at home and this was certainly one of those occassions. It is pricey - the wine particularly but the lunch we felt was excellent value for the quality of the food. Thanks so much for a wonderful afternoon.

We attended the pass restaurant at south lodge to enjoy their tasting menu. The food was delicious, and the service was fantastic. The waiting staff were so attentive and we loved meeting the chefs and hearing what they had prepared for us at each of the 11 course! Will definitely be recommending.

This restaurant was not what I expected. The setting I must agree with some reviewers is quite clinical as you are looking into the ticking of the kitchen whilst having dinner. The food is outstanding full of inventiveness and flavours. My friend and I went for his birthday and we chose the 12 course surprise menu with the wine flights. I was starving but trying to polish off the 12 course was a struggle, we were too greedy. The wine flights portions were generous so I was pretty tipsy halfway through the meal. The service was superb with an explanation from the chefs as they brought you each course. I would go again for a special occasion but try lunch or the 8 course as it is more manageable for me personally. The food is amazing!

Eating at the Pass really is a gastronomic experience with each dish exciting your senses of sight, taste and smell. The 8 course menu was wonderfully planned with each course surpassing the previous course. We accompanied the meal with the wine flight, a great opportunity to try some wonderful wines matched superbly with the food, so much better than having just one bottle of wine trying to accompany all of the different flavours. One of our guests had several allergies and these were all dealt with in a calm and professional manner and where a dish was changed the accompanying wine was changed to compliment the food. A wonderful way to spend a Saturday lunch time.

Fantastic food, fantastic service in the beautiful South Lodge Hotel. The Pass restaurant is a high energy restaurant and it's fantastic being able to watch your food being prepared. The restaurant is great for sharing dinner with your loved one or a group of people, but don't expect candles and romance it is modern with a very buzzy atmosphere.

The food is lovely, beautifully presented -to be expected from a Michelin starred restaurant. My husband & I went to the restaurant on a Friday evening, one of the more busy evenings in the restaurant, we hoped to see some frenzied action in the kitchens as the restaurant is located along the side of the kitchen. Sadly no thrills and spills in the kitchen - all operating efficiently producing a lack of ambience, the surroundings are clinical and cold. Back to the food... Lack of choice between lengthy tasting menus is our main disappointment. Eight or ten courses is too much! The novelty and uniqueness of each dish wore off, it became a chore to even taste each course. Solution? Offer a 4 to 5 course menu to entice people to return.

Cannot say much more than WOW! The food was exceptional.... In 30 years of travelling around the globe, eating at lovely restaurants, not only was this in our top 5, but is our favourite so far. We had the surprise 12 courser and spent 4 hours in delight. All the usual necessaries were there - good ambience, friendly staff, but over and above we were blown away by the variety and combinations of flavours, textures, temperatures, scents, sights: chiaroscuro, juxtaposition, even a sense of humour in some combos, all handled with delicacy and care. A joy!

We had the 10 course surprise menu and my other half had the wine flight to go with it. The food was amazing, I ate things I would never have chosen on a menu and I enjoyed every single course. The setting (being in the kitchen, right in the middle of the action), was very unique and great to watch the chefs preapre our food. Every course was explained to us, and the chap who brought each wine over was very knowledgable and the service was fantastic. The food is pricy but for a special occasion or to treat yourselves, it is worth every single penny - we will definiately be back!

This was my second visit to The Pass and just as god as the first. I took two guests and they were also delighted with the theatre of watching the chefs prepare are and present the outstanding and unusual dishes Service excellent all food and wine explained and the wine flight was a fun learning experience. The overall cost makes this a very special occasion treat but would have no hesitation to recommend.

This was my sixth visit and the food was even better than ever. We had the five course lunch menu, which is great value at £35. The stand out course for us was the pork dish, which had so much flavour and really worked with the pistachio nuts. As always, the service at The Pass was both discreet and friendly. Dining in the kitchen is a unique experience and there is always something to be watching and you can appreciate the work that goes into preparing each plate of food. The only slight disappointment is that we've never seen Matt Gillan in the kitchen.

It was novel being in the kitchen but uncomfortable seats and too hot at times. Very friendly and efficient staff, good service. The food was very well presented but not top on flavour. Whilst overall not a stunning experience we had no major complaints but would not return particularly as the bill at the lower end of what was on offer was well over £400 for our party of four.

Me and my partner really enjoyed dinner at the Pass Restaurant. The food and service is outstanding but the place is missing a bit of atmosphere, lack of music and kitchen exposure limits the experience to food rather than overall set up. However the grounds of the hotel are beautiful so it's worth going for a drink to the terrace to admire the view.

The Pass is somewhere that my partner and I were both eager to try so I booked this as a surprise for his birthday. This is most definitely an eating experience and not your normal dining affair. Being seated in the kitchen is amazing as you see how everything is being put together. The service was fantastic and super efficient. We went for the twelve course surprise menu, which was amazing. The food combinations and creations are beautifully prepared and delivered by the chefs who explain what everything is and how it's been created. The atmosphere is totally relaxed, not stuffy or pretentious and it totally surpassed my expectations. If you are a foodie then this is most definitely something worth a try.

We did this for our first wedding anniversary and it was the best food experience ever. You sit in the kitchen and the chefs prepare your dishes fresh and bring it to the table. you get the unique experience of actually being able to discuss your dishes with the chef. It is expensive, so definitely for special occasions. We have done the Gordon Ramsey tasting experience at Maze and this beats it hand s down. Everyone is so accommodating. I will never forget our experience here it really made our anniversary special.

First time to "The Pass" and it did not disappoint. You are seated in an area and can see the open kitchens. The attention to detail from the moment you were seated was very good. The food was excellent and the touch of the chef bringing and introducing the dish they had cooked is a wonderful touch. We will be back for sure, but I would say if you are doing it for a romantic meal, then be aware that the tables are close together and being in the kitchen it is not the normal romantic setting, but it is impressive.

Taster menu of 8,10 or 12 courses. All small but intensely flavoured. A fantastic experience which any foodie will enjoy; food quality is first rate. Definitely worth a try. Costs what you'd expect for this quality - but given the number of courses is actually really good value. The whole experience took about 4 hours - but chairs comfortable and food so interesting it flew by.

The Pass is a truly exceptional experience. Dining in the kitchen, being served exquisite food by the chefs cooking the food, having wines to match each course served by a very knowledgeable sommelier, not being rushed through the meal and being part of a working kitchen combines to create a unique dining experience. Matt and the team create world class food, some of the best I've ever eaten, using the freshest ingredients. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a trip to The Pass to anyone.

Took my wife there as a special treat. First time either of us had dined at a restaurant with a Michelan star. We were not disappointed. The food was amazing, the wine and juice flights exceptional, staff professional yet friendly and nothing was to much trouble. Read some reviews that said being in the kitchen was a bit of a cliche, but watching the chefs prepare our next course was a highlight for us. The skill, precision and workmanship that went into each plate of food was amazing and done almost in silence, I'm sure it's not like that in most places, but that made it all the more exceptional. That plus the ability to have a post meal cocktail in the library bar at SouthLodge, made it a memorable evening.

My girlfriend and I went here for our 1 year anniversary. My girlfriend has intolerance's to all of Egg, Dairy, Wheat and Gluten - the whole lot - but the chefs at The Pass did an OUTSTANDING job of accommodating her dietary requirements. Most places would just replace the dish; not here. We had like-for-like meals in almost every aspect, yet there were very minor adjusted to suit my girlfriends needs, we were both amazed, and both enjoyed being able to enjoy the same food. To put it simply, it was the most amazing food both of us have had in a long time, if not ever. Every dish was perfect, I literally could not fault anything. Would DEFINITELY recommend.

Each course and wine offering was explained to us in detail by the wine waiter or chef as appropriate giving us opportunities to discuss every morsel that we were about to eat knowing that it would be packed with flavour and cooked to perfection. We continue to highly recommend this restaurant as it excels in every dimension.

Interesting setting overlooking the various young chefs quietly and efficiently preparing our meals. They also waited at table and explained the ingredients. The five course set meal was delicious and not overwhelming. It was disappointing there were no red German wines, and the sommelier seemed quite dismissive of them. I don't think he can have tasted any recently. That aside the wines chosen were excellent if a tad expensive.

My partner and I visited The Pass for dinner over the Easter weekend and had such a fantastic time. We had the surprise tasting menu and it was amazing. One of the dishes wasn't to my liking and they immediately offered to change it but I declined this kind offer as it was just down to personal taste. From start to finish, the staff were fantastic, extremely attentive and friendly. Although we didn't get the wine flight, we couldn't decide which wine to get so the sommelier bought us a different glass each time we finished allowing us to try something new to match our courses. The open plan kitchen is a great idea and watching the chefs work is extraordinary. A wonderful meal for a special occasion as quite pricey but definitely worth it.
