A word from The Red Fort
The Red Fort has been a Soho institution in refined Indian cooking for more than 30 years. With a pioneering mix of carefully sourced, seasonal British produce and sub-continental flavours, the restaurant has been the favourites of celebrities, musicians, entrepeneurs, politicians and dignataries over the years.
Located on Dean Street in the midst of buzzing Soho, The Red Fort provides excellent service in sleek surroundings with designer lighting and modern artworks.
The kitchen specialises in a unique blend of Mughal Court cooking, producing sophisticated, delicately spiced dishes with the finest ingredients. Meat, fish and vegetable dishes are expertly cooked on the traditional grill, and fresh breads and rotis are baked to order in the large Tandoor ovens and served with a range of exotic homemade chutneys.

Diner Reviews
  • "Five friends and I went to the Red Fort for my Birthday lunch. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The menu was extensive and interesting, and the waiter was able to explain items for those of us who needed help. When the food came, it was beautifully presented and smelled gorgeous. The taste matched the smell. We had a leisurely time with no pressure to hurry up. Overall, I would rate this restaurant AAA+++ and highly recommend it for anyone who likes Indian food."

  • "This is posh Indian and very tasty. So much so that I went back for a client lunch 2 days later. The scallops and monkfish on the a la carte menu were delish. I am yeast intolerant and was delighted to find out they don't use yeast in the naan breads, what a result!"

  • "Wasn't busy when we went, but that's not a problem, the food and service here are better than most restaurants in Soho and I would well recommend going!!!"

  • "Six of us came to the Red Fort after a long management meeting and it was the perfect place to unwind. Plenty of space between tables for open talking, low lighting, relaxed atmosphere, the service was efficient and the food was delicious - up there with the best Indian in London. Wine on the expensive side but food very reasonable. If you wanted to kick on the buzzy Zenna bar downstairs is a great option. Would definitely recommend."

  • "This is a good restaurant but nothing special. Food quality is one notch up from your average Indian restaurant, but so are the prices. There is nothing very innovative in the menu and no effort is made in presentation of the dishes. Found the atmosphere a little soulless, and service a little slow and not particularly friendly. Dined on a Friday night and loud thumping music was coming into the restaurant from the Zenna cocktail bar below - coupled with the dead atmosphere in the restaurant it felt like being sat next door to someone else's great party."

  • "Red Fort was recommended by a London native and it was outstanding. With so many Indian restaurants to choose from it was good to have a recommendation. The food was excellent and the star was terrific, we had a female server, I think the only one working that night, and she couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful. We will definitely return the next time we are in London and would recommend Red Fort to everyone."

  • "I have enjoyed eating at the Red Fort for many years. The mainly Indian based menu was always adventurous and perfectly cooked with inventive sauces, but I and friends dined there this past Monday and everything was overcooked and frankly not worth the relatively high prices ... maybe they changed chefs, I don't know, but it was disappointing."

  • "If you are after Indian fare in the heart of Soho, then this is a reasonable option. The food is oriented more towards the British palate and is light on spices for an Indian foodie. Full price menu is expensive for what they offer but with open table discounts it is more palatable."

  • "Quiet place, nice atmosphere and nice food, probably one of the best in town."

  • "We were a group of six seeking a restaurant for a pre theater dinner. The Red Fort offered excellent choices on their three course menu. The food was excellent and we found the ambience to our liking. We will return."

  • "As ever, a great lunch. Brilliant food, attentive service and very reasonably priced with the top table offer. A little quiet - but we were early and subsequent bookings have been much 'busier'. Recommended!"

  • "Excellent dinner as usual at Red Fort. A busy Saturday night but still a relaxing meal due to spot on service. The salmon tikka was delicious and we particularly like the unusual accompaniments and chutneys. Hope to be back soon."

  • "The Red Fort on Dean Street wa sa bit of a let down. I was expecting so much from the food and whilst there was nothing wrong with it, it wasn't anything special."
    dined on 03/06/2014
  • "We opted for the 3 course set meal as we had theatre tickets for 7.30. Food and wine were excellent, and staff were helpful and friendly. I highly recommend The Red Fort for pre-theatre dinner as it is clise to the major West End theatres. Also, have a pre-dinner drink at the basement lounge bar."

  • "We have travelled widely in India so we feel we know good authentic Indian food when we taste it. And although there are local twists, like the source of the lamb, the taste is pukka. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. We will be back."

  • "Not your usual curry bowls but sophisticated Indian fair done deliciously. We shared several starters, the lamb kebab and the grill monk fish which was amazing, seved with three flavorful chutneys. For our mains, we had the slow cooked lamb shank and a chicken stewed curry accompied by rice, spinach and their wonder naan bread. The room is quietly elegant and service was outstanding."
    dined on 26/05/2014
  • "Very tasty food using high quality ingredients in unusual combinations. Service very good but they could have warned us about the size of the portions and so prevented us from over ordering! A little expensive but probably worth it given the size and quality of the dishes."
    dined on 24/05/2014
  • "Great food at Red Fort - we had the monk fish, mushrooms, daal and seabass. The quality of the produce used from local London markets is definitely amazing. Worth a visit"

  • "This was a birthday celebration and a return visit to the Red Fort after many years. Slick service and very good food, particularly the soft shell crabs and the venison. Wine and beer a bit pricey but overall a very good evening all round. Must go back!"

  • "Have not been here for years. Food was good -but took a while to arrive. The service was friendly and efficient."

  • "My 40th Birthday meal after a theatre show. The best Indian experience I have ever had, and nothing like any other Indian restaurant I have been in. The food was amazing and the service was exceptional. "

  • "Been to The Red Fort a couple of times now, and already looking forward to going back - could be quite expensive, but works out quite reasonably with the 50% off food deal on Open Table - good for all kinds of occasions."
    dined on 16/04/2014
  • "We enjoyed our lunch at the Red Fort very much indeed. Despite the booking being for a meal of 3 courses on a cheap Deal there was plenty of food of very high quality provided. We have visited this restaurant several times now, and it does not disappoint. We will be back again soon, we hope!"
    dined on 08/04/2014
  • "We have recently been to this restaurant. All our dishes were very tasty and of high quality though even the mild options are too hot for a westerner's taste bud,"
    dined on 04/04/2014
  • "The food and service were reliably good, and with the Toptable deal the bill reasonable. We will be back."

  • "My third time at The Red Fort, I chose this restaurant again because an out-of-town friend wanted a good Indian meal in London and it so happened that it was my birthday as well. So for me the easy choice was The Red Fort -- I knew it would be good. And it didn't disappoint. All the food is sumptuous with amazing flavour combinations delivered in generous portions. They have a great wine list. I recommend getting advice from the sommelier and trying something interesting and new to compliment your meal. Over the years some things have changed at The Red Fort: there is a bar in the basement that seems to turn into a very, very loud disco that you can hear through the floor whilst you're dinning. It's annoying but didn't spoil our evening."
    dined on 04/04/2014
  • "The food is really good, you can tell its a cut-above, and the service is excellent with separate staff advising for food and wine. The portion sizes are pretty standard, I wouldn't say it was too little or too much. My main issue is that given the price (about £100 for two people having one course and a bottle of wine) and promotional material, you'd be expecting something all-singing and all-dancing. The decor and ambience is nice, clean and modern, but just looks like any standard modern restaurant - nothing very indian or authentic about it, which I know other London Indian restaurants do and this makes their dining experience more special. Its good, but its simply not worth splashing the cash for."
    dined on 03/04/2014
  • "Delicious food, attentive but not intrusive service - slightly formal for Dean Street (as reflected by the prices) but a lovely restaurant."
    dined on 03/04/2014
  • "This was my second visit to Red Fort and I was not disappointed. The service, food and atmosphere was on point and with no doubt I would definitely come back. For my friends and family members who were part of the group booking, were greatly impressed."
    dined on 02/04/2014
  • "Food was average. For starters we got seekh kababs; which were delicious but cold (the least they could have done it was stick it in the micro for 30 seconds). For main course my friend order Sea Bass which was average and I got Chicken Bemisal which was less than satisfactory (no flavour at all, it felt like chicken tikka in some sort of red curry but there was no flavour to it). Pricey Menu, but I guess that applies for the place / location but does no favour to the food as I wont go back for less than satisfactory food."

  • "Went for cocktails in Zenna then a lovely meal in the Red Fort. Food was fabulous as always."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "I went to the red fort last weekend for a family meal. Everybody enjoyed their food and I was impressed by the traditional Indian cuisine with spice to match. Both starters and mains were tasty, and there were plenty of vegetarian options, as well as a large number of lovely sounding meat and fish dishes. The wine is on the pricey side, but the restaurant does pride itself on the extensive wine list they hold, and in SoHo I suppose that is to be expected. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was pleasant throughout the evening. I would definitely go back,"
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "Extremely slow service. Despite the fact that there weren't many diners at all, they took way too long to get us any of our food."
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "Booked this table to mark my daughter's 18th birthday, it was easy to book at fairly shrot notice, midweek at good time, and staff were very hospitable and accomodating. Food was tasty and well presented and when we asked if we could move table because of noise from a large party nearby (not rowdy just a lot of people) they were happy to accomodate."
    dined on 12/03/2014
  • "An interesting menu, great flavours.A bit quiet on a Monday night tho"
    dined on 10/03/2014
  • "Great food and ambience. The fish dishes where great. Shared started was a good choice. Food full of flaour.. Only downsides where not that spicy and expensive."
    dined on 08/03/2014
  • "Went to the Red Fort in Soho for lunch with my partner - first time, and will definitely be back, the food is fantastic. Really tasty, different from most Indian restaurants. Really good with 50% off offer from toptable too!"
    dined on 07/03/2014
  • "Although the menu is about the only thing Indian about the Red Fort it continues to provide an exceptional value set menu and is ideal for a lunch or pre-theatre meal for high-end Indina cuisine."
    dined on 06/03/2014
  • "OK, Chablis off the list so had to have 2nd choose, not the end of the world but slightly disappointing. Wife ordered some lentil ball starter, was really nice and quite large. I ordered the prawn starter, frankly disgusting. Batter was burnt and prawns (just 3!) were dry and tasteless. No one bothered to ask if everything was OK until the end of the mean, which by then I did the usual Brit thing and said "yes thank you" No idea why we have to have what bread they decide, given the cost."
    dined on 01/03/2014
  • "Had been aware of Red Fort's reputation for superior Indian cuisine for several years, but high prices acted as a deterrent. Broke through this barrier recently, armed with the Toptable discount offer, and lunched there with a friend. The food was good, especially the soft shell crabs. Also much appreciated were the sides, a delicious aubergine dish and the methi aloo. Service was fine. The bill was presented without the Toptable discount applied, but this was swiftly remedied when pointed out. Not cheap, even with the discount (£33 a head, including 2 beers each and service charge) but we enjoyed the meal, and would be happy to return if the discount continues to be available."
