  • "The service at this restaurant was excellent. We had sirloin steak which was cooked in their new high temperature oven. Unfortunately it was overcooked but the staff were very helpful and friendly and didn't hesitate to cook another. I'm not convinced that their new oven is the best way to cook steak because the intense heat dries out the outside of the meat. Nevertheless, overall, the food and service were excellent."

  • "Four of us dined for a friends catchup and also to celebrate my 50th birthday. We booked the special offer menu and weren't disappointed. Excellent service and food from the first visit in the bar to being taken through to the restaurant. I was also given a special plate of little treats with a candle and birthday greeting in chocolate which finished the evening off in style. Two of my friends hadn't eaten here before and were very impressed with the menu choices, food and overall cost. Hopefully it won't be too long before we visit again and would recommend a visit to anyone taking the time to read this."

  • "Booked a Sunday Lunch for my sister, my wife and myself and could not have been more pleased with the food, the service, the friendly atmosphere and did I mention the food! We had 3 different starters of asparagus, smoked salmon and the bresaola and all were heavenly. This was then followed by 3 identical roast beef main courses. The roasted sirloin was cooked to perfection (medium rare) with vegetables, roast potatoes and a garlic mash. We all had the same dessert of salted caramel and chocolate tart which was absolutely superb - the best we have ever tasted. All the while the very friendly but unobtrusive maître d' and waiting staff made sure that our glasses were kept topped up. Truly recommended"

  • "Unfortunately we didn't even get to eat at The River. I'd booked the table through TopTable having seen a great deal and was very excited to be returning to the restaurant again for a special dinner. Only to be called shortly after to be told that the time I had booked the table wasn't available and that the deal which was advertised wouldn't be honoured. When I tried to negotiate with the restaurant saying we could be flexible on the time if they could honour the deal (which was also displayed on my confirmation email), they were completely inflexible. I have only ever had a fabulous experience being at the Lowry and it was one of my favourite restaurants in Manchester, but this recent dealing has left me very disappointed and angry."

  • "Nice experience. Outstanding service. Ordered fillet steak which was well overcooked and the outside was quite hard (ordered med-well). Also ordered half lobster which came covered in a cream cheese sauce, was nice but could not taste the lobster at all. Scallop starter was lovely and cooked perfect. Service excellent could not fault at all. Freshly cooked cookies offered whilst sat at the bar along with fresh snacks for each customer. Very friendly and helpful."

  • "I ate alone at the River room and had a choice from a fixed price menu that offered three courses for £24.95 plus service. There was a varied choice. My first course was a delicious creamy wold mushroom soup. The main course was a smoked salmon risotto. It was a little too buttery for my taste but nevertheless was tasty. The desert, hot pineapple with cocnut ice cream was beautifully presented and delicious albeit slightly fussy for my taste. All in all a very good meal; excellent value for money; and astoundingly good service (albeit the restaurant was almost empty on the weekday when I ate there)"

  • "This came highly recommended, but came nowhere near expectations. We had booked a set meal, but the staff initially told us it was unavailable. Then, on my insisting on seeing the manager and production of my printed out booking, they reluctantly relented. But the choices were so unappealing that we went a la carte. (It was too late and too difficult to go elsewhere.) The food was actually quite good, but desperately overpriced. There were about 5 other people dining. The maître d'hôtel was suitably attentive and appeared to be trying to make up for things, but the other staff really didn't seem to care. The overall bill was more than I'd have paid for an equivalent meal in London. Never again! And I'd advise anyone in the area to avoid it."

  • "Good selection of foods, only disappoinnent was that we had been told we could eat on the terrace if the weather was nice, but when we arrived we were told this was impossible. The restaurant was under refurbishment so a good effort was made to accommodate us in a function room. Staff very courteous and efficient. The "offer" on toptable is a misnomer as i think it is bookable direct via the restaurant."

  • "We booked the special offer 3-course seasonal menu for £19.95 each, but neither myself or my wife wanted anything from it, so we selected from the main menu. We both had lobster bisque to start, which was lovely. I had the lamb loin for main and my wife the turbot, as recommended by our waiter. My lamb was nice, but could have done with some more perhaps. The service was excellent, although my wife was given the wrong dessert. The desserts themselves were awesome, so overall we were very happy and will come again for sure."

On the a la carte menu, the minestrone soup was a bit disappointing, the crab was large and very nice and the cheeseboard a bit sparse. Overall, the a la carte menu is a bit overpriced for the quality and service but we did enjoy a pleasant lunch."

  • "This is the first time I attended this restaurant - a bit hidden away in the Lowry Hotel on the banks of the river. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but the restaurant is beautifully light and tastefully decorated with art prints and orchids. A man plays the piano and we enjoyed the attention of our waiter, mostly because we had the whole place to ourselves, although people began to trickle in eventually. We did the 3 courses for £19.50 deal and the starter, Duck Hash Brown and poached egg, was divine. the roast beef was pink and succulent. The only let down was the pudding, which was an Apple Parfait with Caramel Ice Cream...which seemed to be missing any apple flavour. For the money,great value, nice surroundings and beautiful food!"

  • "This is our second visit to the River Restaurant at the Lowry Hotel and again was an amazing experience. Our Maitre D' could not do enough for us, he met us at the door, showed us to our table and took time to explain all the dishes we asked about. We had an amazing value 3 course menu for £19.95 each and although initially disappointed with only 3 choices for each course, when our meal arrived we were absolutely delighted. The sweetcorn soup with mushroom oil starter was delicious, served with an olive bread roll, it had a unique, creamy flavour. The Monkfish main course was divine, served with butternut squash gnocchi and seasonal vegetables. The finale was damson crumble with Tonka bean ice cream - amazing. A very special restaurant."
