Diner Reviews
  • "Pleasant setting, nice staff, good food, good value."
    dined on 16/08/2014
  • "We had booked a table for a meal after a show we had seen in the afternoon. However every other person in the place was booked in for an evening show - despite saying so to staff it still felt as if they were doing their best to get us through in time for an evening performance, even the bill was brought in a rush just as we had finished our dessert. We love the resaurant and the staff are friendly next time we'll make sure we book at a time that doesn't coincide with rush hour"

  • "Amazing view! Brilliant, fast service! Enjoyed all aspects of our meals, but were disappointed by an overdone poached egg on the bubble and squeak cake. Apart from that everything was gorgeous and had a table with a brilliant view, as we'd requested, as we were celebrating a special occasion! Would recommend!"

  • "Good food, but relatively limited gluten free food on menu - not even gluten free biscuits so that gluten sensitive people can have cheese and biscuits - biscuits will keep a long time. Service generally OK, but staff did not seem happy - there was a bit of an atmosphere as though something had happened earlier."

  • "This restaurant has a pleasant airy atmosphere with good views of the river area in Stratford. We had a late lunch which was well cooked and presented, without any frills. Service was also very pleasant and welcoming. All in all, good value and quality. Also interesting and varied wine list."

  • "Really enjoyed food again. Have been 4 times in last year and each time service has been friendly and attentive and the food has been tasty and plentiful. The staff do a great job especially considering the relatively tight turn around time before a 1.15 matinee!"

  • "It started badly when I unfolded my starched napkin and discovered it was blotched with dark brown stains which had obviously survived laundering and not been spotted in the starching and folding process. I requested a clean one, which came, but there was no apology. We were seated at 11.45 and our starters came promptly. We then waited until 12.40, nearly an hour after first sitting down, for our main courses. These only came after I enquired and pointed out we were running out of time. Again, no apology or explanation was offered for the delay. We were attending a performance at 1.15, which I had indicated when I made the booking, so this left us no time for a dessert or even coffee. Food: pleasant but dull."

  • "Took my wife and parents for my mums 70th before going to the theatre, plenty of staff available and the food was fantastic. We did the three course set menu which was exceptional value."

  • "V good quality and good value for Stratford We were sat in the private dining area which hosts 6 tables when not booked, very quiet and personal unlike some areas which are quite crowded. Either way would recommend a visit"

  • "We had a pre-theatre lunch and are comparing it to the good pre-opera dinners we have in Ffesh in Cardiff's Millennium Centre. In the RSC the service was slow; seemingly because no-one was allocated to our table/group of tables. We seemed to be served by every member of the waiting staff. We waited 25 minutes for desserts which only had to be plated-up. The menu offers (too?) many choices for a pre-theatre meal which needs to be served quickly. Unfortunately the food is not that good and we suspect the puddings and some starters were bought in menu items. Next time we're going to Carluccio's over the road."

  • "The Rooftop restaurant is the ideal venue for a pre-performance meal at the RSC. The ambience is pleasant, the service impeccable with attention to ensuring that you are served and meal completed in plenty of time for the start of the performance, though there is never a sense of being rushed. Portions are not huge but adequate for a relatively early dinner. Food tasty and well cooked and presented. Thorough recommend."

  • "Reception had noted that we needed to be fed and out in an hour and the food came promptly; with excellent service. High standard of food. Good choice of wines. We did not take up the offer but were invited back to take desert during the interval ..nice touch"
    dined on 13/08/2014
  • "We enjoyed it very much and went for the 2 course menu which was lovely. The portions are not huge but they mean you will walk away having enjoyed the meal and not feeling uncomfortable. The wine was reasonably priced by the glass and the service was great."

  • "our first time dining pre theatre. The service and staff were excellent couldn't fault them .The choice of food was also excellent and had no complaints about the meal, all excellent."
    dined on 12/08/2014
  • "Excellent service, menu and value for pre- theatre dining. We were made welcome and were not rushed yet we had just the right time to take our seats and enjoy the show"
    dined on 12/08/2014
  • "We were seated in a couples "ghetto", a wedge shaped area tapering to about twice the width of one of the tables. All the tables for two were lined against a brick wall with a glass wall opposite and some views of buildings outside, an outlook that did not really live up to the promise of a "rooftop" restaurant. Our table was at the thin end, the last in the row, and quite isolated from the main restaurant so I have very little idea what the rest of it was like. The food was good and the service excellent until it came time to pay. Because many people were leaving at the same time (in time for the evening performance) there was suddenly a shortage of card machines and people to operate them."
    dined on 11/08/2014
  • "The efficiency of the staff means that you can be confident that you can enjoy a delicious meal with lots of time to savour the theatre performance to come ."
    dined on 11/08/2014
  • "Everything about our visit to the Rooftop restaurant very good and most enjoyable but I could not rate it outstanding as it lacked that "je ne sais quoi". Perhaps it was the young staff who lacked the flair and confidence of more experienced employees - although they did nothing wrong. The food was very good although the main course could have been hotter. Our experience was very good and we would certainly come again, so perhaps I'm just nit -picking!!"

  • "Went to see Henry IV parts 1 & 2 and ate here in between. The restaurant is very pleasant and it has a good menu. We enjoyed the meal but it was let down by little things - over-cooked calves liver, a cold bottle of chateauneuf du pape, inexperienced waiting staff. That said, decent value for the price."
    dined on 09/08/2014
  • "Overall, it was a pleasant enough experience, but there are better restaurants in the area. The tables were very close and people coming and going frequently nudged at our elbows. We had to keep looking over each others shoulders to warn each other of impending collisions! Not very relaxing. But the staff were friendly enough and the food was good. I wouldn't use the place again, there are places locally that don't make you feel that you are in everyone's way."
    dined on 09/08/2014
  • "Very nice food in clean, modern surroundings with excellent views of Stratford-upon-Avon. Located above the RSC theatre ideal for pre or post pproduction food and drinks."
    dined on 09/08/2014
  • "Fast, but discrete and polite service. Very nice meal.....wine good too. Excellent for pre-theatre....and for a more leisurely meal."
    dined on 08/08/2014
  • "Anniversary meal, great food and service. Location amazing"
    dined on 07/08/2014
  • "Despite having booked well in advance, an outdoor table was not available After seating, we waited 25 minute without any service. I approached the staff and explained we had a show to catch. It didn't seem important to them, even though though the place is in the theatre. In the end, I paid the bill at the cash and we had to run to our seats"
    dined on 07/08/2014
  • "This was the second recent occasion we have taken advantage of this facility to enjoy a relaxing evening meal prior to enjoying a performance at the theatre. The service was efficiently executed so as to ensure that we finished in good time and the food is of much higher standard than one might expect. Thoroughly excellent !"
    dined on 06/08/2014
  • "We really enjoyed our meal here. Service and food were both very good. We were able to sit out on the balcony which gave the experience a lovely atmosphere, watching people below. It added something extra to s night at the theatre"
    dined on 06/08/2014
  • "Our first visit to Rooftop. Stunning setting, friendly staff, good food. Unfortunately our main course was given to someone else and we had a 20 minute wait. The staff eventually sorted it out and were most apologetic. Fortunately, the restaurant was not very full, so our enforced wait did not affect the timing for our visit to the RST."
    dined on 06/08/2014
  • "The staff are exceptionally friendly and accommodating. There's a good range for veggies and the service was swift for our pre theatre dinner."
    dined on 05/08/2014
  • "Always enjoy eating here...... allow plenty of time to make it leisurely before a performance......."
    dined on 05/08/2014
  • "Excellent post theatre dinner (following matinee) at the Rooftop Restaurant, the food was delicious with a good choice (including 2 vegetarian Main options for one of our party). The Calves Liver was perfectly cooked and the fish fresh and beautifully presented, the price was reasonable and our service helpful and accommodating. We will be back"
    dined on 05/08/2014
  • "We have eaten at the rooftop restaurant for many years and each time the food was terrific. On this occasion the food was terrible, bordering on 'what's left in the cupboard to bung together'? There were three of us dining and we all had different choices over the three courses, so 9 dishes in total - all very disappointing!"
    dined on 04/08/2014
  • "The location and views from the restaurant were amazing. The food was excellent and the prices were good. The wine was a little pricey, but for a special occasion was ok. I was however surprised that the gratuity was included on the bill. Most restaurants I visit give you an option to tip or not and to specify how much. I felt that this puts guests in an uncomfortable position if they are not happy to tip or would like to change the amount. Apart from that it was a lovely experience thank you"

  • "This was our third time of dining here before a play. Each time was better than the last : first of all the food was unpretentious but delicious ; then, the service was exceptional, friendly without being familiar ; and thirdly, on this occasion we were given a table with a very fine view over the river and weeping willows. Also, on this third visit we had friends with us who fully concurred with our feelings. We are regular RSC -goers but as we live in Canterbury the prospect of a good meal after the long drive is very welcome. So we hope you maintain your high standards!"
    dined on 04/08/2014
  • "The lunch menu was lacking in choice, for the price we did expect a better menu. The service between our starter and main was very slow, even though the restaurant was almost empty. The food itself was very nice and well presented. The staff were friendly. The view was lovely and for that it was worth it."
    dined on 04/08/2014
  • "We've eaten here a few times. The food is always good - interesting, well cooked and beautifully presented. However, the service is very hit and miss - often more 'miss' than 'hit'. For the price and the fact that they presumptuously add a 10% tip to your bill! we'll be looking elsewhere next time."
    dined on 02/08/2014
  • "For two piscarians, the menu is better than it would be if we were 100% vegetarian, but that said, we don't always want to eat fish, and the only vegetarian options were pretty bad from a cholesterol point of view. The two most disappointing things, though, were the cramped nature of squishing too many tables together, so that it felt as if we were eating in a train corridor (despite having booked months earlier, we had the type of table we'd expect if we were a last-minute walk-in), and the portions are small - no complimentary vegetables with the main is a poor show."
    dined on 02/08/2014
  • "Fantastic venue for pre-theatre dinning at the RSC. The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. They served the first two courses plus coffee, between 5:30pm and the start of the performance at 7:15pm. We came back for desert in the interval which was great fun and definitely better than fighting to the bar! The food was beautifully cooked, fresh, tasty and excellent value. All in all - a definite 10 out of 10!"
    dined on 02/08/2014
  • "Food was good, service was prompt but when I asked for another glass of wine it didn't come (that's the second time it's happened, maybe it's policy? To avoid heckling during the performance perhaps.........Or maybe they're trying to tell me something.......) So, water with my main course and with the cheese. I asked for no blue cheese but when it came it arrived with blue but no brie. Ho hum, I enjoyed it anyway, just didn't eat the blue."
    dined on 02/08/2014
  • "Nice table with a view service a bit erratic but food was good"
