A word from The Savoy, Thames Foyer
The Thames Foyer is the heart of The Savoy hotel and the perfect venue for light, informal dining. Its reinstated glass cupola, based on a guest's drawing, once again allows natural daylight to flood in on even the darkest day. The centrepiece of the room is the magnificent new winter garden gazebo.

Guests can also indulge in Afternoon Tea in this comfortable and intimate spot accompanied by the hotel's resident pianist. Afternoon Tea at The Savoy is an enduring custom where guests can choose from a range of teas served with finger sandwiches, homemade scones with clotted cream & jam and a mouthwatering selection of cakes and pastries. The Savoy is proud to be a member of the Tea Guild and received the Award of Excellence for 2011, 2012 and 2013.

We booked afternoon tea at The Savoy as a treat, pre-theatre, following both celebrating birthdays. The surroundings, service, food and champagne were all excellent and we enjoyed 2 hours of catching up, eating delicious sandwiches and cakes with endless cups of tea and at no point did we feel we were rushed. It was a delightful and indulgent way to spend an afternoon prior to the evening performance at the Savoy Theatre next door, so ideally placed too.

Great place for a special occasion for afternoon tea. The service was great and the selection of teas is fantastic. The sandwiches and scones were great. The cakes were a little disappointing, particularly the signature cakes that are the finale. Some of the flavours were not that enticing, whereas others were really good. The signature cakes were a bit heavy and possibly a little bit stale.

I've had afternoon tea in several top London spots but this one is by far the best! The sandwiches, scones, pastries and cakes were exquisite. The ambience and atmosphere was buzzing but elegant. The waiters and staff could not be more friendly and polite! Highly recommend for a special occasion.

Took my mom for afternoon tea as a treat for her birthday...it was perfect! Staff could not have been better and the cakes were amazing!!! Upon being seated, we were asked if we had been for afternoon tea before to which my mom replied 'no, it's a birthday treat'. Much to our surprise, mom was later presented with a lovely slice of cake with a happy birthday message delicately written on the plate in chocolate as the pianist played a brief section of happy birthday in the background...a lovely touch that actually bought my mom to tears as she was so enjoying the whole experience! Value for money was good as staff checked regularly if we would like more of anything...sadly we couldn't manage another mouthful even though we wanted to, so had to decline the last course of the Thames Foyer Special! Overall, a lovely afternoon!!!

It is a lovely hotel with a lot of history and ambience. The service was extremely poor. After the first course had to wait 45 minutes for the next course. The high tea was not as good as the traditional tea we had. The sofa we were seated on was extremely uncomfortable. Tried to tell the girl it was not suitable for an elderly couple who are over 65 with back problems but she did not want to hear what we wanted to say just started on telling us what a nice seat the sofa was and just explain the menu quickly and leave. It seems as if they were terribly under staffed. The waiter who was attending to us also had a big table of about 15 or 20 people including children to attend to. He also mumbled and spoke fast and was difficult to understand. Perhaps he had to many people to attend to again so wanted to get it over quick. Did not enjoy the experience at all. Have been before about a month ago with my daughters on a Saturday and the service was excellent. Therefore, decided to go with my husband and we both came back very disappointed with the experience. Have been to the Ritz a couple of times and the service has always been excellent over there. It is a shame such a lovely hotel with a lot of ambience but the service lets it down.

From the moment we arrived until we left the service was Impeccable from the doormen, the cloakroom attendants, the greeters and of course the waiters. Our visit was a 70th birthday treat for my Aunt. I had requested. Particular table and also a birthday cake in advance. My requests were duly noted and actioned to her delight. Nothing was too much trouble and made a special day just that bit more special!!!

I booked afternoon tea at The Savoy for my husband's 50th birthday and it didn't disappoint. We arrived in the rain, fairly wet and bedraggled and the staff immediately took our wet coats and umbrellas from us, directing us to The American Bar where we could dry off. Afternoon tea was really special, with unlimited sandwiches, scones and pastries. We were asked a number of times if we wanted more. The staff were professional but also extremely friendly making everyone feel comfortable. The atmosphere was great with a pianist playing in the birdcage. The staff brought around a cake with a candle and a chocolate scribed Happy Birthday on the plate for my husband and all others celebrating a birthday which made the day even more special.

A wonderful hotel steeped in history with a beautiful ambiance. We had a delicious afternoon tea and felt very spoilt. My advice, do not eat before your arrival. The afternoon tea is more than enough. The service was outstanding and we were left to relax in the beautiful surroundings. We then followed our afternoon treat with a trip the the American Bar. Great atmosphere here and the service was yet again excellent-thank you! We will be back!

Second visit for afternoon tea at the Thames Foyer in the beautiful Savoy hotel. Highly recommended. Refined atmosphere though consciously neither stuffy nor patronising. Delicious sandwiches, scones, cakes, continually replenished. Our initial waiter was a little under-par, but this was noted by a more experienced host who took charge for the rest of the afternoon and who certainly proved his skill and worth. Highly recommended.

We booked afternoon tea as a surprise for my mum's birthday. We all absolutely loved it and couldn't stop raving about it. The scones were incredible, and the amount of cake you receive is unbelievable! The only reason for 4/5 stars on service was that they could have done with maybe 1 or 2 more waiters/waitresses. It was a very busy Saturday and we had to wait a little longer than expected once or twice (all though nothing in particular to grumble about). We also couldn't manage a lot of the cakes that we had, and asked if we could take some home (as they would otherwise go to waste as they'd been served to us) but were told that we couldn't take them home with us for 'food hygiene' reasons which I really didn't understand.

My friend and I met my daughter for this treat but we were slightly disappointed by the sandwiches and quality of the cakes. The pastries and scones were excellent. Also would it not be possible to provide a box to take food away that we were unable to eat? This is an expensive treat for two pensioners and this small touch would be greatly appreciated.

The surroundings are simply stunning, so much to look at! The service from Martin was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble for him and he made us all feel very special. It made mums day when her Cake arrived with a candle and the pianist played Happy Birthday. The food was delicious, with fabulous cakes and pastries. We moved into the American Bar after for drinks. The whole experience was fabulous, and we will definitely be returning in the future.

Excellent service, great scones and cakes, great tea. Sandwiches however were a bit lacklustre, bread was no different to what I get from the shop and the fillings uninspiring, two with mayonnaise based accompaniments and two with mustard based. Was looking forward to perhaps an excellent chutney or top notch cheese filling. A bit more variety needed and maybe some fresh baked bread. Overall a delightful afternoon with excellent setting and service

We all had wonderful afternoon tea, enjoyed by all six of us. The food was excellent, they did bring more sandwiches and scones when we asked. The room setting was relaxing, and lovely decorated. Also a very good choice of tea's , but being a table of six people, our tea was on a side shelve away from us, and we had to keep looking for the waiters, to ask for more tea in our cups, and sadly the tea was cold, this was the only down fall. Apart from this we all would go again. I have to say that all of the staff were very pleasant and very helpful and a created to the Savoy Hotel Two of us had birthdays, and it was a lovely touch when the staff came out with two small cakes with a candle in each for the birthdays. A wonderful afternoon xx

A really special hotel to have afternoon tea. The staff were very attentive and the choice of 2 different afternoon teas, sweet or savoury, was great. We chose the savoury and were very full at the end. There's also a huge choice of teas. We chose the afternoon tea which was lovely; not dissimilar to the tea I drink at home but lighter. The atmosphere and decor was very nice. A lady started playing the piano at 2 and played happy birthday for someone while one of the waiting staff brought out a cupcake with a candle for someone. Overall we really enjoyed the experience.
