2 coach parties arrived whilst we were here, not dining, they just all seemed to be mulling around, using the bathrooms and taking pictures. Completely lowered the tone !! And don't bother with the spare ribs, virtually no meat on them at all. And £5 for a mocktail which was just orange juice and bitter lemon---a complete rip off ! Up until now, this was my favourite local restaurant--not any more. Alec's Brasserie will receive more of my custom in the future.

2 of us dined here on a Tuesday and as usual the food was very good and the service, whilst a little slow at times, was very professional and friendly. In fact it appears they may have a new maitre d' /senior waiting staff member who had clearly had experience of and classical training in fine dining service - should be a real asset to the team! We had two courses and mixed between the a la carte and the 'du jour' menu - all of it was fresh and tasty with great presentation as always!

Very busy restaurant on a Tuesday evening. The tables are very small; tables that anywhere else would be for two were seating 4. it's obvious that due to the popularity of the restaurant the idea is to cram as many in as possible. The result is it's a very noisy place with diners crammed in alongside each other. This was our 4th visit here, and it had changed from being comfortable to what I have said above. The food was good, service excellent, but we won't be rushing back there.

  • Crispy Skin.....

Had lunch with a friend who has never been to the S&D. We both chose from the special lunchtime menu which even made us spoilt for choice. Anitipasto for her, king prawns for me, both a delight to eat (especially the pea puree!) Both chose the sea bream with sir fry vegetables with an oriental sauce, everything was cooked excellently - even the sticky rice was sticky - but the sea bream did not have a crispy skin.Generally (like most people) I would not eat the skin of fish but sea bream is one of the fishes whereby it is a delight to eat a wonderful crispy skin! The skin was soggy and as it sat on the side of the plate some of the oil seeped out and some of the sauce was lost as this was drizzled over the skin. This was my only criticism

An inpromptu meal out having found a babysitter for the kids, decided to go to shepherd and dog which we've passed many times. We ordered from the specials menu which seemed more reasonable than the main menu! The seabass cerviche with gingered fruit salsa was outstanding and should make its way onto the main menu! A great evening and would definitely recommend!

I cannot speak highly enough of the service, the food and the setting!! We were reccomended to dine here for our anniversary meal and I am so glad we did!! The food was incredible, we began with the pork sharing board- amazing!! Designer food without the price tag!! I had the pie of the day and it was gorgeous!!! Our deserts and cocktails were the surprise of the evening, sorbets served in mini teacups and apple crumble martins were what made our meal so special. The staff were attentive, friendly and the atmosphere was great with birthdays around us, it was busy even though it was a weekday, but the service didn't faulter at all!! Will be back for a special meal again soon!!!

Having only been for Sunday lunch previously, I was hoping an evening meal with fellow mummies would be a great night out. We weren't disappointed - the food was fab, service friendly and attentive without bring over bearing, and the atmosphere (considering it was a Monday night) was buzzing. Highly recommended

Have been to the Shepherd and Dog many times, always excellent and creative, except that this was the first time I have been early in the week, a Monday, and did notice that the lunchtime menu was a liitle more "plain fayre" than is offered at week-ends and evenings. Still value for money but disappointing not to have some of the more unusual dishes on offer.

Food was very nice, the ambience pretty okay. Not the best or the worst dining experience I've had. The evening started unceremoniously, we were one of the first diners to arrive, we had a small child with us too, yet the kitchen and service staff were too busy exchanging anecdotes with one another including some swearing to worry about guests arriving. So it started rather sourly and this aspect of the service should be addressed.

Being local to me, I'd been meaning to eat at The Shepherd and Dog for a while but had never got around to it...until now. We were the first diners to arrive, even though it was approaching 7pm, which was a little off-putting, but the restaurant soon began filling up - the atmosphere was warm and lively by half 8! Our food was excellent (generous portions and well-cooked) and the fact that ingredients are sourced locally made it even nicer. The service was very good indeed; friendly and attentive, even when the restaurant began to get busy. Overall, a great experience - I will definitely be returning!

Two of the meals we ordered were very good. But we had pre ordered a Fillet Steak which to be honest we would not have fed to our dog. It was uneatable. The only good thing was we complained and the cost of the Fillet was taken off the bill. We have dined in many restaurants and the server should never lean across the table to collect the plates, they should be collected from the side of each individual diner.

My previous visit to the Shepherd and Dog was unsuccessful with poor service and food and I was therefore reluctant to go back. My daughter persauded me to book as a special occasion for the family as she has been and found everything to be first class. I have to say that service was exemplary and the food very good. The waiter was watchful but never intruded and the wait time between courses was just right.

Excellent starter,Good service, lovely atmosphere, unfortunately I ordered from the special menu which said seafood stirfry with pak choi and clams, on recieving my order it was a seafood dish with loads of noodles no pack choi and 1 clam. The waitress took it back as I felt it did not fit the description, I ordered again leaving my daughter to eat on her own, and then I had to eat on my own, not what you expect on a celebration meal.

I went with friends for a catch up, the meals were excellent, we could find no fault with the starters and mains and we all had different meals. The staff were very helpful. The only let down were the desserts, only one of our group enjoyed them and she chose the selection of sorbets. I would still recommend this restauarant I have been a few times now with different friends and would go back.

My wife and I went for the first time for lunch on Saturday 24/5, service absolutely brilliant and the food is to die for, the chefs quality of food was second to none, the bar staff were very quick, polite and courteous (special mention to the cocktail guy who created the bake well tart cocktail - what a nice guy) every single member of staff from the moment we stepped in there made us feel welcome and special which really stood out for me. If there is anyone out there who wants to experience what customer service should be like - visit the shepherd & dog as they know exactly how to treat their guests. Thank you all and can't wait to book again - Andy from Hornchurch.

I am a regular at this restaurant but over the past few occasions of visiting the food has gradually for worse and this time it was unacceptable, the group I was dining with ordered the sirloin steak medium rare and when it arrived the meat has more fat on than if ever seen, it was only cooked on 1 side, after informing the waiter who I must say was fantastic through out he apologised and sent it back but when the 2 supposedly new steaks arrived they were just as bad. One of them was the same steak just recooked but it had the sauce on it so it had now become burnt in and the other steak was hardly cooked, I was thoroughly disappointed with the resturant and won't be returning until the appoint a chef who knows how to cook steak!!!!!
