  • "I think I have been going to The Square on and off for over ten years. Phillip Howard is one of the best chefs in the country and the food and the service are both top of the premier league. For me The Square is undoubtedly one of the best high-end restaurants in London; not cheap but then again excellence rarely is...On this occasion it was my wife's birthday and I am delighted to say that she loved it - the cheese trolley is an enjoyable piece of culinary theatre and superbly executed. The staff are efficient and warm; attentive but not obtrusive Highly enjoyable"

  • "The ambience and food were of excellent quality. We had the taster menu and the (very new) sommelier gave a creditable performance. However, despite our informing the waiting staff that my guest did not eat eggs one of the meals had a quail's egg on his plate. Overall the experience was positive."

  • "Outstanding service.Cheese tray was highlight. We had lamb as main...just "ok".Very pricey relative to other restaurants in same category."

  • "The exquisite combinations of ingredients, plus the intensity and separation of flavours, that would get lost in the mix in a lesser establishment, and the flawless service from every member of the team make this my favourite restaurant in Europe. That and the consistency - year in year out the same superb quality. The set lunch is astonishingly good value. The tasting menu is expensive, really expensive - and worth every penny! If The Square were situated in Paris it would undoubtedly have its third Michelin star."

  • "We went tot he square to celebrate a graduation and had the Tasting Menu with a "Flight of Wines". The Range of dishes was wide with a several fish based items. Portions well judged for the large number of courses. The wines were explained and the reason for the pairings given. The wines were not mainstream but interesting regional wines to match the country of the origin of the dish. We had no pressure to hurry to recycle the table so were able to enjoy the setting and food. The setting is a large modern square room, perhaps a little shop like in that there are large obscured glass windows to the street. Probably unavoidable in the location but worth a thought in the next refit."

  • "A real dining experience. My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at The Square and took the tasting menu, adjectives fail me but suffice to say every one of the nine courses was perfection itself."

  • "From the moment we arrived at The Square, we were thrilled with the service. All the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Attentive but not hovering. We had the tasting menu with wines and they explained each course and the wines. Each course was amazing. It is impossible to choose a definite favourite. The langoustines were delicious, but the cod and lamb also amazing. The soufflé was simply gorgeous so that would have to get top marks too. The staff were very friendly. They really took the time to tell us about the food, check we were having a good time and joked and chatted. A really really lovely way to celebrate our 15 year wedding anniversary."

  • "Warm friendly staff and a great sommelier!! My father and I started off with a glass of Tinto Pesquera 2003 which is a lovely wine for anyone who is eating there next. The sommelier noted that my girl friend sparked an interest in the wine after tasting some from me but since she wasn't much of a drinker she didn't want to order a glass of her own. With a wink and a quiet shhhh.. He poured her a small glass on the house :) Lovely evening"

  • "I took my mother here for her 70th Birthday. As usual the food was exceptional, and the set lunch menu continues to be one of the best value lunches in London - outstanding food, incredible quality, beautiful presentation, delicate balance of flavours, all for £45 for three courses. The really outstanding thing every time I've been to the Square, however, has been the service. The staff are the height of professionalism without a hint of starchiness. The chefs and services staff coped very well with the lactose intolerance of one of our party, and made a real fuss of my Mum on her Birthday. The little touches really add up. Thank you!!"

  • "Since I reserved this restaurant for business lunch, I arrived at restaurant 10 mins prior to our booking time 12:00. I was told by a young lady at the reception we were open from 12:00 and had to wait outside. 3 minutes later, two old ladies arrived, and they were allowed to wait inside of the restaurant. I was luckly my customer did not come before 12:00 and I will not use this restaurant in the future."

  • "What you would expect on the plate from a highly rated restaurant: perfectly executed dishes. What surprised us pleasantly was the seamless communication between front and back of house that resulted in a bespoke dish that suited by dining partner. The Square puts as.much effort into the front of house experience as the cuisine, which made our evening."

  • "Excellent dinner from the amuse-bouche to the desert. Tender duck and fantastic mullet main courses with very harmonious accompaniments. We would certainly recommend The Square for special occasions."

  • "Yet again we were not disappointed with our experience at The Square, we really enjoyed the degustation menu, a wonderful selection of the many fabulous dishes on offer on the a la carte menu. The staff were very attentive but not over bearing."

  • "Our recent enjoyment of the Tasting Menu at The Square was built on two very firm foundations: the menu itself was a celebration of ingredients of the highest standard prepared so that the clever presentation of flavour and texture were carefully respected; the effortlessly professional courtesy of all of the restaurant's staff made for a calm atmosphere and absolute confidence in their knowledge and skill. Each and every dish represented an elevation of the core ingredients used and this was enhanced by the flavour partnerships, but never exaggerated. To visit The Square once only would seem to me to be unthinkable."

  • "In context of expensive great places (London) and compared to our favorites in Washington, DC, a Value Meal! The boasted the souffle would be best ever and they delivered. Service, attention, educative: excellent. The menu and choices not precious at all."

  • "We were celebrating a 60 years birthday with the family. Started with cocktails ( fine) then a menu card that was very special, unsaid 3 course menu meant two dishes after that dessert or cheese, not very logical( You had to ask). Then this 90' show started with silly pre anything! Simply ordinary food, I thought of Benôit in Paris my worst ever! The staff was overloaded, We had at least 4-5 persons confusing us ( bad acustic and very bad english and french) what's going on? Wine was too cold though We said so! I must say , I was looking for something special instead I was sad to have chosen this resto. In the end my wife had this menu card with greetings from the chef but not with the dishes she had (how strange can You get)"

  • "A visiting friend from the States and I had lunch at The Square on 10/6. The service is caring and excellent - no faults at all plus it was friendly and top notch. Many of the dishes we ate were very good, and the desserts were especially beautiful and delicious. I know it was lunch, but I felt the portions were very small for the starter and main. I was looking for a bit more of a 'wow' factor, but I really have no complaints about the meal as it was beautifully presented and tasty. I think all the great food now in London is starting to spoil me!"

  • "My husband and I visited the square for the first time to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The staff were tremendous and made us feel very special and the food was absolutely amazing. The restaurant was well laid out with plenty of space between tables so that we were able to enjoy an intimate dinner."

  • "We were blown away by the quality of the food at The Square on Friday. We went for the tasting menu, and it really was top-class. The seasonal ingredients were incredibly fresh, and really well cooked, and each course was better than the last. Hard to come up with the right superlatives. Service was very efficient but also friendly and relaxed. The wine list is extensive, and the sommelier suggested a very nice Chablis to complement the varied dishes in the tasting menu - a perfect match. Yes, it's very expensive, but for a special occasion it is absolutely worth it. "

  • "Eight courses, each one was superb, so hard to pick out a favourite. Portion size was very well judged, we got to the end very satisfied, just on the right side of stuffed. We didn't go with the tasting menu wine ladder, but went with a bottle of white and couple of glasses of red and dessert wine. We took the guidance of the sommelier and were very happy to have done so. The wines he selected were based on the food and on what we told him we liked, but they weren't what we would have picked from the list ourselves. He chose great wines, not expensive wines, and each worked really well for us. Overall a great night for a special event (couldn't afford to do it every day!)."

  • "We had set lunch menu which offered limited choice but was excellent. I had lamb and others had fish and both were cooked just right. Portions in general were very small even for most Michelin starred set menus. One of the desserts comprised half a small Bakewell tart cut down the middle. This looked and was mean: at least prepare a smaller tart and serve it all!"

  • "As you would expect 2 Michelin stars in Mayfair is always going to be expensive so that's a given. Where The Square excels is in the quality of the food and the attentive but not obtrusive service. WI went for my partners birthday, we had the taster menu with wines and she described it as your best ever mean x 2."

  • "We had the tasting menu with accompanying wines to celebrate our wedding anniversary. There were nine courses and we had seven wines to enjoy them with. All of the courses were good, but my favourite was the Lasagne of Dorset Crab with a Cappuccino of Shellfish and Champagne Foam - this was divine! The Passionfruit and Lime Soufflé is also worth a mention and it was a great way to end the dinner. The sommelier was friendly and gave a nice introduction to each wine we tried. As a personal touch, we got a copy of our tasting menu signed by the head chef at the end."

  • "Super meal with excellent service. The place lacked a little in ambience - it did not quite have the energy and buzz that some restaurants have but this did not detract from the enjoyment. We will be back. "

  • "Our evening at the square was broadly a delight. Super location, atmosphere and service. We had the tasting menu. My partner absolutely loved it, whereas I thought it was 'just' very good. If you're used to strong flavors, rich food or spice it was possibly a little bland, but still of exceptional quality."

  • "I got a table for a sunday lunch as a present on my birthday. Me and my gifriend hasn't been to The Square before so we didn't know what to expect. One thing we both agree about was that we deffently would like to come back. The food was amazing and the price was ok. Me and my girl goes to this kind a restaurant to celebrate and not just because we wanted to. Our waiter gave us the perfect service so we felt us relaxe between all the posh people. Thanks to The Square for giving me a amazing birthday. "

  • "Service was overall friendly, but not as warm as other restaurants. Food was good, but did not excite, and was therefore disappointing for this standard of restaurant. We chose the set lunch. Perhaps the dinner menu is to a higher standard."

  • "From the moment I arrived at The Square in my wheelchair I found the staff to be very attentive but not overwhelming. So did my wife. We had the Tasting menu which was delicious! So delicious, the food made me laugh in happiness! Criticism? A bit too green and brown on the plates. When I called to make the booking, I mentioned the need to be able to get to the accessible loo and that was clearly thought about in our seating for lunch. As an aside, although the accessible loo was a room in the cloak closet, it was spacious and spotless and staff were always on hand to hold doors open. Overall, a wonderful meal for the two of us."

  • "We have recommended this restaurant to everyone we know. Perfect for a special occasion. The food is out of this world and the staff are so friendly and welcoming whoever you are. They totally made our evening. Can't wait for another occasion to go back. "

  • "Myself and my husband went to the Square for a belated anniversary meal. We went for a lunchtime set meal...£40 for three courses. The choice was between two for each course. I appreciate set meals are generally of smaller choice but I felt one more option would have been better. Saying that, the food that we did have was fantastic...a great combination of taste and texture. The chocolate dessert was heavenly. The service was very good and attentive although some more light hearted interaction wouldnt go amiss....felt like getting that towards the end of the meal but quite stilted at the outset. The sommelier had a perfect wine for me following some discussion. Overall an amazing experience...perfect for a special occasion "
