A word from The Swan West Malling
For decadent dining this super-slick restaurant on Swan Street is set inside a refurbished 15th century coaching inn, and its chic interior and the kitchen's critically-acclaimed modern British menu have already earned two AA rosettes and a Michelin listing. The Swan has already gained a loyal following with local gourmands, and foodies from further afield go gaga for the Philippe Starck furniture, chunky oak and zinc tables - and dishes such as the cheese-baked figs in a fennel and hazelnut dressing and the British seafood platter. The Swan has an excellent boutique wine list, and is a perfect spot for alfresco lunches, discreet business dining and romantic tables for two.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Starters options were too fishy, need some other choices. Bottle of wine was kept in ice bucket away from the table and had an empty glass for a long time. Ordered a drink from the bar and it took so long I had to ask if it had been ordered. Food was very good but quite expensive and it does annoy me when they add 12.5% service charge. We were only a table of 2 and service charge should be optional."

  • "Lovely restaurant. Very friendly attentive staff. Good choices on the menu. Can definitely recommend. A bit on the expensive side but lovely for a special occasion."

  • "Enjoyed a catchup breakfast with my girlfriends which spilled into lunch time! And the best thing was we wasn't hurried off the table by the staff. Deffinitely go back."

  • "Nice venue, attentative staff, food not bad, drinks a tad expensive. On the whole she would return!"
    dined on 27/06/2014
  • "The ambience and service was very good. The food tasted good but the portions of cod for the main course were disappointingly small."
    dined on 21/06/2014
  • "I knew that this meal was not going to be cheap but as it was a special occasion for us I wanted to take my wife somewhere nice where I could guarantee good food/wine and service. We both enjoyed the experience (maybe slightly too loud where our table was) and would recommend the restaurant to our friends."

  • "I recently went to The Swan for a romantic dinner and from the moment that I entered, I knew that I had chosen the restaurant correctly. We were greeted and taken to our table and were treated with total respect. Everyone serving knew their role, from pouring water to bringing bread, drinks and the food courses. The food was exceptional; the manners of the waiters even better. I would totally recommend this restaurant to everyone."

  • "On Monday 2nd June my husband and I made in impromptu visit to one of our favourite restaurants to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and had the most fabulous meal we have had for ages. I had the scallop and ham hock starter which was sublime and then we shared the rib of beef which was so tasty - with the lovely atmosphere and the fabulous staff - the evening was perfect - thank you to The Swan West Malling"

  • "One thing is for sure, The Swan in West Malling needs some competition as I feel they are resting on their laurels! The table placement was awful, stuck up against a pillar on a tiny table for two where if you moved too quickly you could have quite easily knocked everything onto the floor. Ordered the Beef Wellington which arrived within a minute and that should have raised the eyebrows from the start. It was lukewarm and the pastry clearly not cooked properly. What made it worse was the fact that it was described to us as they way it should be and it was a house favourite!"
    dined on 31/05/2014
  • "Booking the table at the swan through 'open table' was simple enough. I was updated about my reservation the day before, which was good. The whole experience at the restaurant was brilliant. I can't recommend it enough! Thank you to all at the Swan restaurant in West Malling for all your efforts. Please keep up the good work! "

  • "A Restuarant dining out on a old reputation for high end food, high end prices but not high end food any more. "
    dined on 22/05/2014
  • "The food here is good, the restaurant is well laid out, you're never too close to the next table & the service is okay. I would go again."
    dined on 20/05/2014
  • "A wonderful easy day shared with friends. Food excellent as always but I was disappointed no fish and chips on the menu as that was what I was hoping to eat!!! Had the salmon and was good. And the chips were heaven"

  • "Wow what an excellent place! outstanding look and design very impressed. Service was excellent, food was superb couldn't fault the place and the staff, excellent service and made you feel welcome and they looked after you. What more can you ask for."

  • "Excellent service and quality of food, would certainly return. Price a little on the high side but lovely meal and experience."

  • "I am always delighted with the service, quality and value for money at The Swan Already looking forward to the next time."

  • "Great food, but sadly let down by a simple thing of getting a cappuccino right. I had to send it back twice as it was just a milky coffee with chocolate on top. I spoke to a man that looked to be in charge and said what was wrong. He was very defensive and made it into ahuge thing. Quite embarrassing really to my friend and I. It was not dealt with well. I work very closely with people and the worse thing you can do is alienate the customer. The customer is always right even if you feel otherwise you shouldn't voice this. About half an hour later he did bring over some complimentary drinks which was lovely, but should have been brought over sooner. I think barista training is a must if you want to be a 5 star establishment selling coffee."
    dined on 11/05/2014
  • "Really great service and food. Mid-week meal and was enjoyed by all."
    dined on 07/05/2014
  • "Fantastic food. But we asked for a secluded table for our 1st wedding anniversary and was placed inbetween two loud groups. The young waitress was very moody. Shame as was a special occasion and we weren't made to feel like it was. "
    dined on 17/04/2014
  • "Second time we've been to The Swan. As before the food was worth the journey - all well cooked, lots of choice on the menu. Not the cheapest place you'll go to eat, but I guess you get what you pay for!"
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "I had lunch at The Swan for a special occasion (40th birthday and family going away celebrations) with my family. The food was excellent, great atmosphere and the service was excellent. We couldn't have asked for more."

  • "Had lunch her on Saturday - admittedly a beautiful sunny day so most people had a smile on their face !! Food was delicious - rabbit terrine to start and then skate wing which was the best I've had for a long time - tried Chapel Down fizz which was as good if not better than most champagnes - we had a lovely lunch which was topped off by efficient and friendly service - loved it !"

  • "The restaurant itself is excellent. What lets this very good estbalishment down is the fact that people are allowed to attend to just drink in the bar. As a consequence, the bar is full of individuals who are excessively drunk, often sad middle aged people attempting to relive their youth whilst being the most loud and arrogant bar-goers I have had the misfortune of seeing on a Saturday evening. People being held up by their friends as they leave the restaurant has to be the most unsophisticated and grim scene and this happens with great regularity usually due to the drinking culture at the bar. The restaurant, food, and wine list is excellent though! Just bypass the morons propping up the bar on a Saturday and Friday evening"
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "We visited The Swan for an evening get-together with some friends on a friday evening. As always, the atmosphere was vibrant and the staff very friendly. I really enjoyed my fillet steak and moules starter. The vegetarian option was limited to one choice that was served tepid, returned and subsequently eaten although bland. It was definitely not value for money. The Swan is always a treat to visit - there are understandable waiting times between courses so make sure you go with good friends!"
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "A relaxed eatery with fantastic food, good for business or pleasure."
    dined on 24/03/2014
  • "Great venue, relaxing atmosphere, very good food and service. What more could you ask from a restaurant."
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "not sure why this place lackes atmosphere but it does. we were cramped in a tight corner of the restaurant on a not very busy evening. staff too pushy with wine sales and almost appeared to be stand offish when told no again. not sure really the service deserves a 12.5% service charge added to bill. food nice enough but Ive had better here before."
    dined on 17/03/2014
  • "We have dined here for over 10 years and recommended to many of our friends and family! This was one of our favourite restaurants! Sadly won't be returning ever! Regular custom is not appreciated as our simple request to be moved away from a large group with a screaming, grunting child was not accommodated even though there were a few free tables and was advised it would be a 30 minute wait!!! We booked 3 weeks in advance!!! Emailed the restaurant directly for a response of they couldn't do anything on the day - Shocking! Management clearly does not appreciate loyal, regular customers!!!"
    dined on 16/03/2014
  • "We went for dinner on a Saturday evening, meal booked for 9.30, so very very busy, had to wait ages to get a drink at the bar, was told on a few occasions that our table would be ready in 5 mins after 9.30 but was more like 30 mins later, service was very good food really good....have to say the best oysters I've had for ages , very loud but was a Saturday night, would go again."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "have been for brunch and evening dinner. both are great and the food is of very high standard. Brunch is great value for money and the cocktail menu is great!"
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "Generally a favourable experience. Ambience good, menu fine as was the wine list. Service could have been a little more attentive."
    dined on 09/03/2014
  • "Have dined at the Swam on numerous occasions and this visit was good if not better than previously. The ambience was very welcoming and the food was good. It isn't fine dining but they don't profess to be so. I would definitely recommend a visit."
    dined on 21/02/2014
  • "I hate to have to give such a poor review for this once relished establishment. My wife and I always celebrate special occasions at The Swan and this is the first time I have been utterly disappointed. I had Braised Mallard and it was so greasy and sinewy it was impossible to eat. Shame, hoping its just a one off but as it was our anniversary it spoilt our night. Like I say I'm sorry to have to be so negative but that's how it was."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "We have dined here a couple of times before and felt this time was a bit rushed as if they wanted to turn the table as quick as possible and I suppose the £60 per head was their motivation, I feel the food was well prepared and presented but did not represent good value for money. Which is a shame when a decent village restaurant tries to cash in on its customers special occasions."
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "Love this place! The food never disappoints. Nor does the service. Nor does the ambience. Weekend lunches or evening meals, they're always outstanding. Just a shame that nearby parking spaces are scarce."
