A word from The Waterway
The Waterway is a stylish bar and restaurant in Maida Vale, West London. Our menu is predominantly French and Modern European and focuses on delivering classic brasserie dishes. We also have a large, south-facing outdoor terrace that is open throughout the summer period. On the terrace, we offer a light grill menu for an alfresco dining experience by the Grand Union Canal. In addition, our wine list focuses on French wines but incorporates some great New World wines.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Lovely setting Helpful, friendly staff Tasty food with a good range of options to please most tastes Lovely Alain Jaume red wine on the wine list too We'll certainly return"

  • "The Waterway is brilliant! Beautifully placed at the canal in Little Venice. Very nice outdoor eating area, professional and friendly service. Prices are decent. Only negative, if I have to come up with one, was that the staff didnt make it clear that if you sit outside for eating, you only have access to the bar menu which is very limited in choice for main meals. "

  • "This is a gastropub set on Regents Canal with a nice beer garden and if the sun is shining would no doubt be lovely. Sadly the weather in April was fickle and with the wide open doors even sitting inside proved a cold affair. The menu is fairly predictable and not cheap. The starters of lamb neck fillet and salmon fish cakes were nicely done. Mains of burger and gnocchi decent as well. The place is popular and one reviewer has mentioned the "buggy brigade" with young children who I can confirm do seem to like the place. Worth trying."

  • "The Waterway was a great choice for reunion lunch in Little Venice. Food delicious if pricey, excellent service, and lovely ambience. Will be back!"

  • "Had my birthday lunch there with six friends, food was great value and we all had a lovely afternoon outside on their terrace. Heaters were going so when the sun disappeared it was still warm and enjoyable."

  • "Nice and pleasant atmosphere. Good for a Friday night out with friends and great for summer nights when you can seat outside. Book in advance for outside."

  • "A fun atmosphere and reasonable food with friendly service and good value 'pub grub' with 33% off food bill."

  • "Our visit to The Waterway was going great until we were overun with the buggy brigade who colonised every table around us. So, its fine but be warned: if you dont want a dozen kids crying all around you then maybe steer clear of lunchtime. Otherwise, good pub food, nice service."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "Had a very good dinner at the Waterway with excellent service and ambience. I got 30% off the food which made a lot of difference. Would recommend this highly."

  • "Sun was shining and a group of us wanted to eat outside. The waterway was the perfect solution. We had a drink at the bar whilst we waited for our table. Food was great and we had lots of delicious cocktails. We were very well looked after and all the staff were very friendly, special mention to Christian. Overall a great day, would highly recommend"

  • "I was given the recommendation by a friend who lives in London. I was looking for a gastro pub near enough to our hotel in Paddington. We could not have found a better place. The staff were excellent, the French waitress could not do enough for us. The location was great and even though it was a little chilly, sitting outside for dinner was perfect. According to my mother, the best pork belly she's had, maybe ever! We started with the Calamari, delicious. When we were leaving they very happily ordered us a cab through a company they use. We paid £6 to get home...very very reasonable considering London cab prices. All in all, a great experience and I will definitely be going back"

  • "Waterway was a perfect way to welcome in the Spring/Summer days..."
    dined on 09/03/2014
  • "Food was good value for money and the staff were friendly. We had a small round table for 4 people which was actually a bit too small. We had to constantly move things around on the table so that everything would fit. My biggest gripe was the service. We were presented with menus as soon as being seated, but it must have been 20 mins before anyone even asked if we wanted drinks. Food then took quite some time but was good when it came. The only thing the waiters were really attentive to was when we asked for the bill. It came within minutes and then a waiter hovered over me with a credit card machine before I even had time to look at it."
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "Having just moved to the area we didn't know where to go for dinner and chose the Waterway almost randomly (other than looking at the menu). I was expecting gastro pub style food but it was much better than that. The quality of the food was far from gastro pub really quite exceptional. The service was very friendly and the bill at the end an extremely pleasant surprise. I will definitely be back!!"

  • "Best place to enjoy Little Venice canal and take in all the atmosphere has to offer. Pot raost prok belly is splendid!"
    dined on 16/02/2014
  • "Being a gastro pub it was nice to see that they had a separate dining area. Service was prompt and the food was top notch. Prices are quite reasonable."

  • "Great food, service and location. Live band on Thursday's as well, which was nice and mellow."
    dined on 13/02/2014
  • "Decent food, sunday roast probably the most inspiring. Service friendly but totally inexperimented with several mistakes !"

  • "It was a cold and rainy day...no really it was! We arrived only to find we were the only ones who ventured out in the cold inclement weather. Sooooooo glad we did. Hungry and cold we sat inside where a fire was started next to our table. (Or should I say we were sat next to the fire place and then the fire was started.) Lovely. A friend ordered the Salmon, another the nyoki and I ordered a burger. Yummy! All round. Normally we're a chatty bunch when we get together. Calamari for starters and a leak and potato soup for another and we were in heaven. Our Italian waiter was hilarious! Such a lovely atmosphere. THAT IS WHY I BRING GUESTS BACK NO MATTER THE WEATHER! Thank you to the staff and the chef or chefs! Brilliant as always."

  • "The Waterway is well worth a visit. The food is tasty and well-presented, with home-made chocolates an interesting addition to the dessert menu, although they are all the same (marshmallow covered with lovely dark chocolate) and I was expecting a variety of centres. The staff are friendly and efficient and provide perfect service. Although a wet January evening is not the time to enjoy it, the outdoor tables and canal-side location is fabulous for a summer get-together. The cozy, buzzy atmosphere inside makes it a great choice for winter evenings too. Excellent value with the Top Table offer but I would thoroughly recommend giving the Waterway a try with or without the offer."
    dined on 29/01/2014
  • "great location by the canal and great space, always packed with locals... only if food is better I will be there more frequently..."
    dined on 10/10/2013
  • "Bring local to the area this is the best food in maida vale. Consistent service, friendly and not pushy."
    dined on 24/01/2014
  • "We were greeted upon entrance and felt welcomed. The food was really nice and timing just right. Top table offered a 2-1 on the main course which is a fantastic deal. However I was a bit disappointed by the waiter directly asking me for a tip despite the already included 12.5% service. I gave the extra tip, but I felt a bit "done over" and a bit of a schmuck. According to the waiter they don not receive any of the service charge."
    dined on 20/01/2014
  • "The Waterway has a delightful setting and good food, well served and when we ate there, with a 50% discount on food, extremely good value. The food was fresh and hot and the portions generous. The staff are friendly and attentive. It must be lovely on a summer evening because it was very pleasant on a cold wet night!"
    dined on 15/01/2014
  • "Great restaurant, lovely food with a variety of fish, meat and vegetarian options. Fast and friendly service. Also would be great for just drinks. Worth booking in advance as it seems to be very popular."
    dined on 11/01/2014
  • "I had a wonderful meal there the other evening . I took a friend and we went throught the menu. the staff and the restaurant were very good with very nice food and selections I would go back again , hopefully soon"
    dined on 08/01/2014
  • "Overall, our experience was pretty faultless. Lovely dining room with a ski chalet feel. We had burgers so can't really judge the food on that, but they were huge, on nice toasted buns and very well seasoned and cooked. Dined on the 30% off food offer... Which in reality was a saving of just £7.50. Bill for 2 (2 burgers, 1 carafe wine) was £50 with discount. Not the best value. Would return as live locally."
    dined on 09/01/2014
  • "I booked a table in the restaurant, which they had clearly given away, so we were sat in the bar, given the Bar menu. Neither of our meals was in any way good enough for the money. The salmon was tiny and tasteless, the gnocchi drowning in cheese. Shame. Really love the venue, although from now only for drinks."
    dined on 08/01/2014
  • "Went for dinner at the Waterway before seeing a show at Canal Café, about ten minutes' walk away. Excellent experience, very friendly and attentive staff, lovely dark ambience. Would definitely dine again."
    dined on 05/01/2014
  • "Excellent service, very generous with bread before the meal and excellent food. One of the best meals I have had at incredible value with the offer"
    dined on 05/01/2014
  • "Booked for New Year's Eve. Starter and main were beautiful with good size portions and great flavour combos. Dessert was a little of an anticlimax because of the quality of what preceded it. Overall very happy with the meal and would go again."
    dined on 31/12/2013
  • "We had lunch there - only one dish each as it was straight after Xmas and it was delicious. The service was very friendly and efficient and I would definitely recommend it. We will be back !."
    dined on 30/12/2013
  • "Had a great meal and day out at The Waterway. Delicious food as usual and very welcoming, efficient and friendly service. We had mulled wine under one of the heaters on the terrace afterwards with blankets and it was also delicious. The perfect neighbourhood bar and restaurant!"
    dined on 27/12/2013
  • "If you want to spend your entire meal shouting across your table to be heard by your companion, this is the place for you. a I write this as someone with no hearing problems. I have visited on several occasions and sworn I would never return to eat there again because of the appalling acoustics which make the entire experience exhausting and thoroughly unpleasant. The quality of the food becomes a total irrelevance because one spends the entire time either trying to be heard by your companions or to hear them. Only on one occasion had it been acceptable and that was on a quiet weekday lunchtime when we were sitting outside. I fear my last visit on Sunday is precisely that - the last!"
    dined on 15/12/2013
  • "Love this place for great food and great drinks, cosy and warm with the open fire in the winter even outside is great for wrap up warm drinks with blankets and heaters to keep you toasty. In the summer it is a delight to sit outside for some al fresco dining - perfect place and a gem of a find. I love that it's not in central london and it's right by the canal so you can people watch the afternoon away!"
    dined on 14/12/2013
  • "good service as ever, despite it being a busy weekday evening. nice additions to the winter menu - check out the eel!"
    dined on 29/11/2013
  • "The Waterway is a lovely restaurant. Sat on the side of the Regent's Canal the location alone commends it. The food is passable. I've been there a few times and it does not excel but is always at least a pleasant average. The time to really enjoy it is the summer: - the service seems to be more friendly and you can sit outside."
    dined on 24/11/2013
  • "Good food with eclectic choices, including for vegetarians. Friendly and efficient service and a pleasant ambiance Portions are plentiful and, having eaten, there's a lounge area with sofa's around a fire where it's good to laze around trying to sum up the will to leave. The setting is lovely, right beside the canal on a stretch surrounded by trees and not full of floating rubbish! The outside areas look like a great place to eat, or have a drink, when it's warm enough; although there is a covered area that may be OK unless it's arctic. The down side is minimal. There are no round or square tables, so any more than 6 diners and you are really stretched out in a row; and value for money is only OK, through normal for this part of London."
    dined on 20/11/2013
  • "Very nice service, the Italian waiter was a sheer comedian. Food nice, the sun was out (they didn't do it though), great outdoor seating with blankets and heaters. Very nice food and wine, to boot."

  • "Went on a Wednesday night, the restaurant was full which gave a great atmosphere and felt the food was good value"
