Food usually good but veg portions very small. We find menu items often substituted without prior warning when ordering. Seem to think it doesn't matter - but it does.

This occasion was to celebrate a couple of friends leaving the area for a new chapter in their lives. Whilst everything was more or less as I would have expected it was a shame that the attire of one or two of the staff was not clean! One guest wanted to order a Broadside beer only to be told that there was none left. The beer is made down the road!! He then wanted to order a glass of his chosen wine only to be told that this too was not available. So was his next chosen wine!!!! He did manage to find his fourth choice drink - but I think this was particularly poor for a hotel of this standing. There really is no excuse. Other than that - the food was good - though a 45min wait seemed a little excessive.

A warm welcome and given the choice of a drink at the bar. Very child friendly and a well thought out child's menu. Service excellent and without over long between courses, even with a full restaurant. Four of our party had chosen different starters and mains and all were excellent in taste and presentation. Definitely one of the top places to eat in the area.

Enjoyed our meal, lovely selection of starters and main courses. Staff very efficient and friendly. A bit overpriced, especially the glass of wine. Lacking ambience which was a real shame for a Friday night. Need to make it more cosy to give it the brasserie feel it says it is and which the food delivers on.

Very average. I wouldn't return. Staff good, food is nothing to write home about. Fish very fresh but small. Frozen chips. Pea puree tasted of flour. Fish platter freezing cold which effected the flavour.

On booking we were told a table d'hote menu would be available on a Monday but on arrival found that as it was a bank holiday there was only a la carte. Be aware that the dover sole is very, very smal, balanced on a high mound of potatoesl. (A flat fish is best served flat!) Sticky toffee pudding was excellent. Food quality was good.

We were a party of 4 adults and 2 children and had a booking for early evening on a Saturday. All the adults chose dishes from the 3 course fixed price menu and we all thoroughly enjoyed each course and felt that the menu was great value for money. The children both had a 2 course meal from the children's menu and, as with the adult meals, was thoroughly enjoyed and was very good value. I had asked for a table by the window when booking and we were given a lovely table with views out to the sea front. We have eaten at the White Lion on a number of previous occasions however we felt that the service, quality and value for money was particularly good on this occasion.

From the moment that we entered The White Lion, we were made to feel special and very welcome and the meal really was special. The view across to the beach and sea is great - add enthusiastic staff plus a superb Maitre D' and you know the meal will be memorable and it certainly was. Strongly recommend The White Lion to those spending an evening in Aldeburgh who want a delicious meal, good food and excellent service.

We were a party of 6 eating on a weekday lunchtime. The staff were efficient and were able to fulfil all of our requests with cheerful smile. If they were not sure of the answer to the question they went to find out. (One of our party was gluten intolerant). The food was cooked and presented superbly and ample for lunchtime. The request on booking for window seating was fulfilled. This was our second visit and did not disappoint.

I had dinner on Saturday night with my boyfriend. Booked for 7.30pm, turned up a bit earlier and our table was ready. I ordered the duck which was delicious and my boyfriend had the burger which was a good meaty burger with brie and bacon. We had lovely desserts too! Excellent food and service, overall a great place to have dinner! I will definitely be going back.

We were a little disappointed that four different types of fish had run out when we sat down at 8 for dinner. But to make amends we were brought some nibbles. The customer service was absolutely spot on and the young lady in charge was extremely good at her job. Her team were present from breakfast to midnight and we're very helpful at all times. They made everyone feel that they were important and that nothing was too much trouble. Although we couldn't order what we initially chose as they had run out, what we had was delicious. I would not hesitate to eat there again.

Booked the White Lion as a treat for my stepmother. Was a busy Saturday night and it looked as though there was a wedding reception going on in the hotel. Had to stand a while amongst the throng to be seen and taken to our table. Once there the waiting staff were great BUT... stepmother's first choice (mussels) was not available so then she went for crab - again not available. So third choice plaice was ordered. When the plaice did arrive it had not been cleaned at all well but given the situation she didn't complain at the time and just ate around the congealed bloody bits. As the course was being cleared away we did mention this and were awarded a free dessert but only after the maitre d had confirmed that our complaint was valid.

My wife and I eat at the White Lion 3 or 4 times a year. We had a small wedding anniversary dinner on Saturday 14th June 2014 with 4 close friends. Our table was by a window overlooking the beach and we were greeted with a free glass of champagne. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable without being overbearing, and the Restaurant Manager (sorry didn't get name but she is very smartly dressed with a ponytail!), whom we last met on New Year's Day, is an absolute delight; probably the best we've encountered anywhere. Food and wine were perfect, and the staff topped it off by serving our desserts with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate on our plates! We had a superb evening and will be returning at the earliest opportunity.

We were delighted with our window seat which gave us a lovely view of Aldeburgh beach on a sunny day. The service was top notch, very considerate but not at all intrusive. The food was excellent, my fellow diner had mussels which were wonderful and we both had very tender, perfectly cooked rib eye steaks for the main course. Highly recommended.

Starters of Salmon Cannelloni tasted good. The small amount of Smoked Trout with a raspberry dressing was lost in a pickled salad. The main course of Confit of Chicken tasted deep fried and was served with deep fried roast potatoes and not the mash as on the menu it also came with a Yorkshire pudding! The beef main course was tender and cooked as ordered but was yet again accompanied by the deep fried hard potatoes. A main course of baked sole which tasted poached. Bit of a let down.

We had a one night stay in aldeburgh and I booked into the white lion for Sunday lunch via top table. A few weeks prior I received a nice call to say that there is an Easter egg hunt, children entertainment etc and my boys would be welcome to join in. It was a fabulous afternoon. Really friendly staff and great atmosphere for the children. Food choice was limited... Surprised there was no specific children's menu...just smaller portions of the adult menu. All in all ...a great way to spend Easter Sunday! We'll be back next year!

We decided on the Fixed Price menu for lunch which was good value. The quality of the food was excellent as was the service. I have marked down the ambience as there were very few people dining and the room is quite large so the atmosphere was not "buzzing" with chat and bustle. maybe a re-jigging of seating might help?

Had a lovely evening here. The service was exemplary and the food was cooked beautifully. The ambiance was good and the tables were set out so that you did not feel overlooked by, or too close to the other diners. Our food arrived very soon after ordering and as soon as we had finished we were offered the dessert menu. This actually made us feel slightly 'rushed' so we asked if we could have some time between courses which wasn't a problem at all. The young waitresses were very knowledgeable and professional. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and hope to visit it again one day

Food and the waiting staff were good but the main course took over an hour to arrive. This was half an hour after the only one of the three of us who had ordered a starter had finished it. When the delay was raised with the Maitre D he was defensive..didn't apologise but said they had a big party and our food was being cooked freshly. I found this response unprofessional.

As a family of 3 we had New Year's Day Lunch at the White Lion Hotel (Brasserie), we had a very good meal. With a good number of menu choices and something that suited us all. My 10 year son decided to eat from the adults menu as it was more to his liking, even if the fish he had as his main course did eventually beat him! The food was good quality, well presented and served well as always.

    A little disappointing this year, although to be fair it may have been partly because we booked for 2pm. Maybe the ambience was livelier before then. Only 2 members of staff in sight, both attentive but difficult to understand at times. I quite enjoyed my meal, although chocolate cheesecake was vanilla with chocolate sauce. Others thought food not so good - pate looked unattractive, and roast potatoes seemed to have been heated-up and were tough and non-crisp;

We have been to the White Lion many times and in general have been impressed with the new set up. Starters were OK but two of us had liver for the main and in retrospect should have sent it back. Leather outside and blood red inside, the taste was not pleasant and I was ill the following day. I am loathe to check with our friends but no doubt they will let us know if there was a similar reaction. My wife had tuna pasta which must have had at least thirty olives underneath - fine if you like olives.Unfortunately we will not return in a hurry
