Diner Reviews
  • "Great little venue, tucked away from the St James area, good food and polite but unobtrusive service. Restaurant quite busy, but peaceful enough for a business converstaion."
    dined on 03/07/2014
  • "My husband and I dined here recently and we so impressed by the food and service that we took my parents there at the weekend for a special occasion. The food is lovely - well thought out dishes that are well executed. The cheese board is excellent. Service is very good. I would defintely return and also recommend to others."
    dined on 21/06/2014
  • "The restaurant is in the basement, and is small. The food is good but not exceptional. The service was attentive but it took our waiter a while to ask about and then return with our pre-dinner drinks."
    dined on 13/06/2014
  • "A nice place tucked out of the way but handy for all sorts of places. Good food, nicely presented. A limited set menu but this still presented enough choice for two of us."
    dined on 10/06/2014
  • "Lunch at 36 comprised excellent food for two omnivores and two veggies. Loved the experience and the care we received. An excellent middle-of-the-day gastronomic entertainment."
    dined on 10/06/2014
  • "Over salty foods and slow service, we had to wait for over 20 minutes until someone came to us when the room is half empty. The scallops were slightly over cooked as well as the lamb."
    dined on 06/06/2014
  • "Every bit as good as last time. An undiscovered gem."
    dined on 05/06/2014
  • "Perfect in each and every way, I did not want todo a recommendation just in case i could not get in for the amount of people that should give this a try."
    dined on 31/05/2014
  • "As with previous reviews, I really cannot understand why this restaurant is not fully booked all the time! We had the place to ourselves up to the point of leaving which was 8pm on a Friday, I've been telling everyone I know how great this experience was as I really don't want this place to fail, I want to go again and soon. As for the food, it was exceptional, with all of the extras one would expect from top end dining. I had booked the 3 course deal for £48 and did not expect such luxury. I took my teenage daughter and we both thoroughly enjoyed the food and the sense of occasion the quality and the service inspired. We were treated exceptionally well and I cannot praise this restaurant enough."
    dined on 23/05/2014
  • "This was a special day for both myself and my daughter. I booked this restaurant as it a was very close to St James Palace. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We had a late lunch because of a long journey to London and were the only ones in the restaurant so we had exceptional service The whole visit to DUKES enhanced our day."
    dined on 20/05/2014
  • "A beautiful hotel in the heart of London a gem not to be missed the food was outstanding "
    dined on 13/05/2014
  • "Very attentive but discreet service made this a meal to remember. The food is very good, the TT 3 course offer is good and the wine list is possible to call sensible compared to some other restaurants - not too extensive and a whole page of wines which cost about the same as a single menu......"
    dined on 10/05/2014
  • "Lovely intimate restaurant attached to Dukes Hotel, which I enjoyed over a leisurely lunch with some friends. Great, secluded location, which means that it is not too many walk-ins and tourists. The meal was elegant, tasteful and beautifully presented. Service was prompt and efficient. Small number of options on the 'deal menu' but adequate selection for all at our table. "
    dined on 10/05/2014
  • "I had lunch with 2 friends. We all thought that it was excellent and were astonished that we were the only people eating in the restaurant. This place deserves much more! One of my friends has already posted a review on Trip Advisor giving 5 stars he was so impressed."
    dined on 09/05/2014
  • "I love trying chef restaurants, and had never heard about 36 until recently. The restaurant is literally hidden inside of the hotel Dukes London. Upon dining there I found out it used to be a guest-only restaurant, and that sometime ago they opened to the public. A friend and I were pleasantly surprised with their £48 3-course dinner w/Prosseco special offer. Service, food, and presentation were all very good! "
    dined on 08/05/2014
  • "The service was immaculate, the food divine, simply divine. This hidden treasure will not be kept secret for long."
    dined on 08/05/2014
  • "The restaurant is hidden away downstairs in a hotel that is hidden away in the back streets of St James. Presumably this is the reason it is quiet as the food and service are both excellent and compare well with other restaurants in the area. The extras turn a 3 course menu into something more special. The a la carte menu is quite short, something I find reassuring, especially in a small restaurant. We found all the dishes we had lovely, well prepared with excellent ingredients. The apple desert was a particular highlight. Certainly we will look to return."
    dined on 19/04/2014
  • "This was fabulous, Friday lunch slightly spoilt by the table next door who had their i-pad continually playing peppa pig for their young son who was not even watching it. I was surprised that this was allowed as I would never put something so loud on for my children in any restaurant let alone one that is so stylish and elegant, it is a grown up location, not a "family restaurant' but I think the staff did not really know what to do. However the food and service were wonderful and the £25 menu for two courses and coffee excellent value. A hidden gem."
    dined on 18/04/2014
  • "5 friends and myself had a lovely dinner on a weekday evening to celebrate a birthday. The food from a broad ranging menu was quite outstanding in creativity, taste and presentation and as a great bonus we paid only £48 each for 3 courses and a glass of Prosecco on arrival. On top of that, an amuse bouche, a sorbet AND petite fours came free! Wine from £18 a bottle. There were few other diners but we didn't care. We were there to talk to each other and didn't need company. The service was impeccable - relaxed, graceful and informative. On the basis of our experience, we all thought the place should be packed! We'll be back..."

  • "We are very happy to recommend this restaurant to our friends. The menu was rather small but well balanced for choice. They were not only delicious but visually beautiful!"
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "We wanted somewhere quiet, peaceful, elegant, and has a good chef, to meet up with an old friend, and it was perfect on all counts! This lovely located Hotel in a small courtyard near St James' Palace could not be faulted. From the friendly atmosphere and staff in the Hotel, to the amazingly attentive Maître 'D in the restaurant the service was exemplary, and only exceeded by the exquisite food prepared by a Michelin Starred chef. Yes it's quite expensive, but worth every penny and every minute spent in the luxury of the restaurant. I cannot wait to find an excuse to return."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "Excellent 3 course meal with pre course parts added in. Its the equivalent of a michelin star meal!"
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "Dined at lunch time. The restaurant was quiet but not without atmosphere. The staff were attentive and friendly and service was paced just right. We thought the price was very good considering the location and the quality of the food. The portion size was on the small side but suited us perfectly and the meal ended with a huge pot of coffee and home made sweets all included. We would definitely eat here again."
    dined on 19/03/2014
  • "Five of us met in London for a reunion, some coming up from Bath, and deepest Suffolk, others from the home counties. We trained together as therapists 40 years ago and have kept in touch after 21 years gap in some instances. It was a marvellous occasion. The restaurant is wonderful. The service was fanttastic-helpful but not intrusive and the staff melted away and left us to talk on undisturbed which we really, really appreciated. Their sensitivity, politeness and helpfulness must be commended. Add to this the beautiful surroundings and the wonderful, top quality food, beautifully presented, and we were really spoilt. Thank you to ALL who made it a wonderful experience. There was a general vote at the end to repeat the occasion if we could!"

  • "We had incredible food, sensational service and elegant ambiance."
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "Calm and peaceful atmosphere, away from the crowds - only 3 tables taken at lunchtime. Service was Michelin standard, unobtrusive but welcoming and attentive. The menu doesn't offer a huge variety but had something to suit all tastes and was supplemented by a few additions. Food was excellent mainly English style with a modern light twist which was attractively presented - though perhaps at the expense of substance. The wine list was extensive with a lot of good choices."
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "Very enjoyable dinner. Food was interesting and good standard of cooking, very well presented. The choice of dishes was from the regular menu without restriction, apart from the tasting menu, which was a bonus. Dining room was quite quiet, but it was a Tuesday evening. As we went with friends it hardly mattered. The deal included a bottle of wine for the table which made it reasonably good value."
    dined on 19/02/2014
  • "The veal entree was quite good and the gratuitous bread was excellent. The latter was so good, so freshly made, with the perfect softness inside and crunch on the outside that the maitre d/server offered us another round. Which brings to mind the service which was impeccable and just the right amount attentiveness. Unfortunately that's where the good end and where the bad began. The Ham Hock very dense and not salted enough; the sea bass was too fishy and the two little pieces of oxtail on the same plate were way too tough. We like the rubharb tart and sorbet ok enough - the pastry was nice but the filling too tart. We paid 78 pounds for the privilege, expensive for the excellent bread and service since we didn't like the rest."
    dined on 19/02/2014
  • "Great venue tucked away near St James, very helpful and polite staff without being over-fussy. food beautifully presented and delicious. Good wine list. Few other patrons so made it wasy to talk business without being overheard in a relaxed setting."
    dined on 19/02/2014
  • "The staff is welcoming, the food is amazing! The experience was just incredible! Loved every moment of it!"
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "We had the taster menu and it was great! The 6/7 courses that came out were each perfectly cooked and were (for lack of a better word) tasty. The staff were attentive and friendly but we were pretty much the only people in there, which although this was not an issue for us it meant it was deathly quiet."
    dined on 13/02/2014
  • "We had the Top Table lunch. It was excellent. Despite dreadful weather, and an empty retaurant for our late (1:30) lunch, the staff were attentive and helpful. A wonderful, creatively prepared meal. We will come again."
    dined on 12/02/2014
  • "Friday 7th Feb was my second visit. I met up with a friend, who I have not seen for a while. We had a wonderful time. The meal, service and ambience was outstanding. I cannot wait until my next visit on 15th Feb! The care given regarding my severe nut allergy was exceptional - I had a dessert for the first time since August 2012. Many, many thanks."
    dined on 07/02/2014
  • "Booked this for a semi- business lunch with a friend. We were eating quite late so can't say how busy this restaurant gets but there were only 3 other tables taken. The waiters were attentive without interrupting which often happens when the dining room isn't busy. We ordered from the set menu which doesn't give a huge variety but had something to suit all tastes and was supplemented by additions from the chef. The food was well cooked mainly English style with a modern light twist which was attractively presented - prompting me to have an unusual three courses."
    dined on 06/02/2014
  • "My family and I are foodies and we have always like fine dining and trying new places. The Duke's hotel was rather difficult to get to and we got lost several times in order to find it. I do not suggest using Google maps. Once we have arrived, it was extremely quiet and we were only a table of 3 for the Friday night. The menu is extremely limited, but the chef was very considerate of my dietary requirements and edited the tasting menu for myself. The food, was good, but it was nothing special and I felt that they all followed the same taste/theme - a lot of truffle and creamy. The tasting menu was £75 which is standard in London, however, I felt I have had better elsewhere. Tried once, it was good but would not go back again."
    dined on 01/02/2014
  • "Thirty Six offers an excellent quality and value fixed price menu with friendly service. The only down side is that there is little atmosphere. Restaurant has a feel of being tucked along a corridor in basement. Hotel also hard to find."
    dined on 29/01/2014
  • "Whenever my parents are visiting London I am trying to take them to Thirty Six for lunch as it's one of their favourites. The food choices are consistently creative and delicious and the service is very attentive, too. The toptable offer is great value for a top meal, I couldn't recommend it more!"
    dined on 28/01/2014
  • "Superb taster menu with wines that perfectly complimented each course. Service was also excellent."
    dined on 25/01/2014
  • "My Husband & I had dinner at Thirty Six, Dukes last week - the menu is very good value, good food we really enjoyed but the service was quite slow and the restaurant is a hotel restaurant not really a popular dining spot - it has a residents feel about it - we did enjoy ourselves but wouldn't rush back."
    dined on 23/01/2014
  • "I very much enjoyed both the warm hospitality extended by the Thirty Six team as well as the delicious food during a business lunch at Dukes last week and will certainly be back in the near future."
