A word from Tom's Kitchen
Tom’s Kitchen is a modern British twist on a French brasserie. While brasserie means comfort food – there is Caesar salad and steak tartare, fish pie and macaroni cheese (with a grating of truffle), Tom’s Kitchen also puts its well-executed spin on other dishes such as hand-dived baked scallops with chorizo, and duck confit. Desserts are no less exciting - and comforting, from milk chocolate mousse profiteroles to espresso crème brûlée.
Tom’s Kitchen believes in making the most of the seasons, so the menu changes accordingly, bringing the best each month has to offer.
Breakfast is big at Tom’s Kitchen - voted Best Breakfast in London by Time Out. As well as The Full English, dishes include eggs royale with smoked salmon, crisp Belgian waffles with caramelized apples, cinnamon cream and maple syrup, plus homemade granola with mixed berries and Greek yoghurt.

Diner Reviews
  • "Our evening started with drinks on the terrace which was rather noisy- it does attract large groups of people however didn't detract too much from the experience. On entering the restaurant we were warmly greeted and shown to our table, the decor does lacks a certain something . The menu is very tempting and has a varied choice catering for all tastes. We ordered the starters and the speciality- 7hr cooked lamb. The food is of a generous portion compared to similar restaurants, very tasty, and the lamb was sublime. The staff throughout the evening were attentive without being obtrusive, will I recommend the restaurant- certainly we will definitely look forward to returning and will try the Chelsea establishment next time."

  • " I went to Tom's Kitchen in Chelsea with a friend for a joint birthday celebration. We booked for 1930; two other tables were taken. Yet one cocktail took 10+ minutes to arrive. I ordered the grouse from the day's specials. Sold out. Starters were decent, attempts to remove the bread from the table as the soup arrived annoying.. Mains from the day's menu took 40' to arrive. My friend's order was wrong. My plaice was overcooked. Worst were the" thrice-cooked chips" - appearing barely once cooked, pale, a little stale and reminiscent of frozen chips, though I accept assurances they were not. B'day profiteroles on the house didn't quite make up for what preceded them. Staff tried their best. Not good enough at £60.00+ per head."

  • "After a lot of expectation we've managed to go for lunch at Tom's Kitchen (chelsea). Unfortunately it turned out to be a bit of a disappointment... The restaurant was full of smoke from the open kitchen which left us with s nice bbq perfume afterwards. Good is ok, but certainly not worth the price! The fish from my fish& chips was far too greasy and the muchy peas were over- minty... A bit of mint is fine... But that was too much."

  • "The restaurant is excellent . My steak came up overcooked, i didnt send it back but pointed it out. They did not charge for the desert , which was commedable. Not a reason to not return . Highly recommended"

  • "While the place looks nice on its website, what a disapointment inside: we've been sent to the 1st floor where the atmosphere is hardly nicer than for a funeral... No music, very cold staff brrrr we should have stayed home that night! As for the food, it is largely over-priced, especially taking into account that all sides come for an additional 4 pounds (a burger with no fries, really?) House wine tastes like chemicals and the general wine selection is very poor, with a focus on sweet italian wines ... I will not come back, too many downsides here."

  • "I went on Saturday evening with friends and from great reviews was really looking forward to it! I ordered the Monkfish special and when it arrived it wasn't cooked, infact it was raw!! The waiter took it back to the kitchen. I waited 5 minutes before the waiter came back to apologise and another 5 before he brought me a complimentary salad, saying my fish would be another 2 minutes! Another 10 minutes later my fish arrived! By this time the rest of the party had all finished their meals. At no point did the manager apologise, offer any money off the bill or even a drink. To say my food wasn't cooked and I had to wait so long was very poor indeed! Very disappointing for such a highly recommended restaurant and I definitely won't return!!"

  • "All in all we enjoyed our visit to Tom's Kitchen, however customer service was mixed as we were served by many different servers, many whose grasp of English was poor which made things awkward when they didn't know how to answer questions or establish who had ordered which dish. I had told the restaurant that one diner was dairy intolerant before our visit and no effort was made to explain what she could have on the menu. Having been to the Tom Aitkins restaurant in the past, I was expecting a much better experience."

  • "Food is absolutely excelent. Waiters are nice, respectfull and friendly. Kitchen was overloaded and it took them like 30 mins to serve the mains. We've been served with a free burrata and free coffee to compensate the waiting, which was a really nice gesture. Place is really nice, a bit noisy when crowded."

  • "Firstly be prepared for a noisy restaurant. Although small it is hectic with an open kitchen and what seems like far higher levels of noise than one might expect from the number of covers. My wife had a cocktail to start which she found delicious. We opted for the snacks rather than starters and had excellent smoked mackerel pate, red pepper humous which was insipid, some average bread and a bowl of inspired nuts. The main was the let down. Both opting for the fish and chips it was served on a square bread board with crushed peas, a completely flavourless tartare sauce, a completely flavourless piece of fish (I forget the variety) and some rather nice chips. Eton mess and apricot tart just about saved the day. Overall - indifferent."

  • "4 of us had brunch here on Saturday and found the service poor. Despite being one of only three tables that were occupied we still faced a lengthy wait to order, ordering was difficult as the waiter was unfamiliar with the menu and then three of our meals arrived but the fourth was left with just a side of mushrooms and no main dish. The good was lovely but again we waited ages for the bill while the staff stood at the bar chatting to each other. We were going to complain as we left but the manager was occupied listening to a complaint from another diner at the front door!"

  • "This is maybe my 5 or 6th visit to Tom's Kitchen. It is a bustling restaurant with high energy and pretty good food. This time we ordered champagne... but as it was not chilled switched our order to a chablis. The waitperson brought us instead a sauvignon blanc.. argued re the type of wine.. (the wine was called Ch______) then opened the bottle and served it to us."

  • "Husband couldn't even cope with looking at the menu as we were pounced upon by staff as soon as we had sat down virtually on top of next table. As we were on holiday we thought we may go as restaurant near our accommodation. We eat out a lot and enjoy dining in London. This was average meal compared to others including pubs. All the food was tasty but nothing special. We did enjoy the gloating islands pudding. We felt rushed. Yes it was all well cooked but we enjoyed Geals and The Phene more."

  • "Poor service, in attentive staff, pedestrian food, very noisy could not recommend"
    dined on 08/07/2014
  • "This place is overrated for breakfast. There is nothing special with the food and it's not cheap. While loads of staff who seem to be hanging around, they kept forgetting the basics, eg butter on the table for toast and filling glasses with tap water when asked. I thought this place won an award for best breakfast - it must have been the only entrant. Nothing special at all."
    dined on 06/07/2014
  • "Stupidly didn't check menus before going, as got shocked to see this restaurant serves foie gras. The restaurant is trying to give an image of using seasonal local produce and caring where food comes from, quote website: "where the emphasis is on where the food comes from and how it is grown. "Tom’s Kitchen takes responsibility for the sustainability and integrity of food – a philosophy that guides their principles today" Really? Saddens me greatly to see such an establishment still supports such barbaric farming methods as force feeding ducks!"

  • "We had a table booked for Saturday Night, when we arrived we were seated upstairs. We thought that being London the place would be buzzing, how wrong was I, by the time we had finished our main course we were practically the only people left. Our drinks took an eternity to come, one of the starters was cold although my starter was nice (Foie Gras). The main courses were ok, nothing to shout about. The dessert was the highlight which is saying something. Anyway I certainly wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend it to any friends. I was going to ask for the service to be removed at the end but couldn't be bothered with the hassle. As we left the waiter apologised for the slow service which was ironic as we were the only people left to serve!"

  • "A good looking place and yet a very good service; it's not necessary to spend a little fortune eating out in London; I really don't know if I keep my mouth shut and stop spreading the news (to avoid crowds in the future)or if I tell the truth..."
    dined on 25/06/2014
  • "The food and atmosphere was nice, but the service disappointing. The waiter who served us was not very friendly and while he was fairly prompt, he didn't smile once. I appreciated his efficiency with our brunch orders, but for the price of the dishes I was expecting service with a smile. The relaxing ambiance was also slightly disrupted by screaming children, which I understand can't really be helped, but is worth bearing in mind when making a weekend brunch booking."

  • "The wild mushroom pasta was allright but an arrogant french server spoiled the dinner."
    dined on 19/06/2014
  • "The slowed cooked lamb was fantastic. The beef patty is a little too dry in the burger. Service was perfect except that the layout is more for communal dining. Would certainly recommend this restaurant for casual family gathering."

  • "Lovely pre theatre lunch. Great food and service. Very pleasant surroundings."

  • "We booked at Tom's Kitchen after having heard so many positive reviews about the food, the ingredients and style. I can confirm that the menu offers a wide choice for vegetarians, meat lovers and fish lovers. The reputation of the restaurant is well deserved. The staff is extremely friendly and service oriented, eager to help and satisfy customers. We tried the catch of the day marinated with lemon and vegetables. It was delicious. The food was cooked at the right temperature, served nicely with a mix of flavours to offer balance. The portions, however, were on the small side. The dessert was delicious-profiteroles filled with chocolate mouse and covered in rich dark chocolate."

  • "My second time here, last time was a lovely informal meal and so recommended it to some friends and returned as a foursome. Restaurant was too hot, and the two expensive bottles of red wine we ordered were way too hot as they'd been left out rather than in a wine fridge, so we had to get ice buckets to cool them down. My cocktail arrived with a half rotten strawberry on the glass, which was pretty unappealing. Staff were nice and friendly but didn't seem to understand that this wasn't really good enough. Food was decent (lovely pork belly main), but overall it was a disappointing and expensive experience (more than £100 per head) and I'm afraid I wish we'd gone somewhere else. "

  • "Toms Kitchen is one of my favourite places to dine in London. The quality of the food is always first class and never disappointing. The sharing Baked Alaska is like no other dessert! "

  • "Excellent food and service, crab cakes were light ans tasty, steak was perfectly cooked although the chips were underdone which was very disappointing and the choclate tart was a little boring. Service was attentive without smothering. Would go back."

  • "It's a lovely atmosphere there, the food quality is quite good, but I wouldn't advise to go there for dinner or special occasions, it's more appropriate for lunch or breakfast."

  • "I took my son (13) here for breakfast as a treat. He had the waffles which were amazing, so light. The food is lovely, ambience brilliant and everyone was welcoming and friendly. "

  • "We selected Tom's Kitchen based on other reviews and were not disappointed. Overall, the food was very good (the chicken schnitzel was a little overdone), wine also good, and the baked Alaska was fun & tasty. It is rather noisy since there are quite a few tables in a small place - we didn't mind, but probably not the best choice if you're looking for a quiet atmosphere. The service was excellent despite being very busy, everyone was attentive and took care that orders were received on time."

  • "Food was great, fresh ingredients. Good broad menu. Casual dining. Relaxed atmosphere. Good wine choices including 500ml carafes which is handy for two people sometimes. Tables for two are very close together. Not much nearby if you're looking for drinks before or after, just one pub. "

  • "Enjoyed the meal and had very good service from a very nice young Italian waitress, casual vibe to the restaurant with a bistro feel so need for major dressing up. The food was excellent and there was a great choice, it was also presented very well. I do have a couple of little niggles, the chairs are not that comfy One personal annoyance on the bill is the "optional" £11.00 added for a tip, I think that adding it to the bill and then calling it optional means that the onus/pressure is then on you to object which is not great. I would much rather be left to tip at my own judgement. One tip what looks like the entrance at first isn't its the door to the left. "

  • "We had been looking forward to this special dinner and had only read good reviews so our expectations were quite high. Our table was booked for 6.30pm so we realised it was quite early but on arrival we were sat upstairs which only had one other table occupied (which we were placed right next to). The ambience was poor. The starter was excellent. I ordered fishpiefor main which I was clearly told had pastry on it so I ordered a side of mashed potato. When it came it was mash potato throughout and no sign of pastry. I sent the mash back! The waiter then argued with me about it containing mash and declared that most diners like this dish?! You would expect, when paying the amount charged, that the waiters would know the menu. Disappointed."
