Diner Reviews
  • "Incredible food Attentive, friendly staff Wonderful cocktails Quirky decor"

  • "Great food and service served in a fantastic south sea setting. Excellent cocktail menu to work your way through! Definitely worth a visit a visit just to listen to the 70's and 80's soul and disco soundtrack which plays as you eat. Trader Vic's really delivers a great night out."

  • "I recommend the "Blue Parrot" cocktail, it was really good! It is great spot for a birthday or special occasion. It has been quite a few years since I was last at Trader Vic's and the menu obviously has changed many times I am sure but the decor which timeless still has the feel of the South Pacific. The Salmon and Lamb main courses were delicious and the rum creme brûlée super!"

  • "Great place for a nice quiet meal but with a great feel and music later."

  • "Recently went to Trader Vics in Bahrain and thought i would give the London branch a visit. A little over staffed for my liking, as we had at least 5 different people visit the table during our meal, which was annoying! Lovely location and worth a visit, great cocktail menu. "

  • "I first visited Trader Vics at the London Hilton in 1986 and I have to say that it has maintained its quality all these years. The spare ribs are and remain excellent. The Mai Tai still tastes as good but is no longer served in a coconut as it is used to be. Good place to go with friends and family."

  • "It was my first time at this restaurant after a recommendation from a friend. Great cocktails, great good, great ambience with wonderful music but not many on the dance floor. Would definitely go again. The staff were really nice."

  • "The table service was really good, nice suggestions! Cocktails were also really good! Even if I don't like juicy cocktails, but yours were amazing! Except the butter punch, it tasted like water. Food had a good quality and size but not good at all with the theme of trader's vic! Need a lot of work! But overall good impression!"

  • "The first thing my family ( 5 time visitors to the restaurant every visit to london) was order our favorite dishes but they were gone. Menu changed. When our food arrived it was cold. And the all loving music lounge atmosphere that we remembered was gone. Instead we were left with Spanish/island slow unrecognisable songs. There were several parties there for the night expecting the same hip, modern, old school and new tunes live covers that were engaging and dragged people to the dance floor. Instead when we left the restaurant at 1030 the floor was empty and we were not impressed. Trader Vic's has had a long reputation for good service, food, and ambiance that has shown a value for customers however last Friday night they lost several."

  • "They haven't received the reservation from toptable. Made me and my friends wait for the table for 20 minutes and we just left."

  • "trader vic's, below the hilton has been there forever and overall it has loads of atmosphere. the cocktails are just great, a fantastic choice but after that not so good. the music was turned up loud, which is sort of ok in the bar, but not in the restaurant. i want to be able to hear the other people on the table without straining. the menu i thought was limited and expensive. the pancakes for the crispy duck came out all stuck together and it took more than one "ask" to get that sorted. didn't have desert, as nothing caught my eye, but of course that is purely personal. i would go back for the cocktails but not for the food."

  • "We brought a baby for a late meal. Loads of fuss made of her. High chair provided. Baby and us loved the music and the friendly staff."

  • "Restaruant was great although, something went wrong with Toptable on the night and my booking hadn't gone through to the restaurant so ring ahead just to be safe!"

  • "Trader Vic's may not be as well known in the UK as it is in the US but the theme travels well - as does the experience. Fantastic exotic food with a unique atmosphere (and decor) and cocktails you will never find anywhere else (served in a skull mug perhaps!) The only negative is price, so save it for a special night"

  • "I arranged a group dinner celebration at Trader Vic's for my birthday. The staff were super helpful and accommodating right from reservation, maitre'd to service (though we didn't ask for the side order of attitude brought over by the waitress with the final bill). Everybody raved about their dishes in terms of taste, portion size and value. The music also encouraged the feel good vibe and the staff sang happy birthday to me over a complimentary and delicious créme brûlée!"

  • "I made an online reservation for a birthday dinner for my partner and I for 6pm. On arrival, the manager could not find the booking. The restaurant was completely empty and instead of seating us and adopting "the cusomer is always right" policy, we got interrogated as to when and how we booked it and we stood having the dicussion for more than 5 minutes and were made to feel at fault. In the end we went back to our room (we were staying at the hotel) and retrieved the paper confirmation. From that point forward the meal was ruined for us and although the food was nice, the excitement of the birthday meal had been ruined. The manager never apologised but managed to annoy us all evening."

  • "We were staying at the Hilton Park Lane for a fun weekend in London and invited some friends to dinner at Trader Vic's. While the food was amazing, the primary thing we remember is how poor the service was. We waited 20+ minutes for the waiter to arrive after asking the manager to send our waiter to take our order. We were waited on by a random array of servers, only after we asked to order drinks/app, dinner, and to get our check. All were incredibly rude. For dinner we had the Beef and Reef and Crispy Duck, both of which were wonderful and prepared perfectly. I have never in hte UK or US been treated so poorly by wait staff. I am still thinking about how wonderful the Crispy Duck was, but not sure I would ever return on my next trip."

  • "I went for dinner with my wife. Pre-dinner drinks and starters were fine. I was served the wrong main course and when I pointed this out, the waiter took away my meal but never offered to replace it! Trader Vic's advertise live music to accompany dinner - be warned, it is treated as a night club, The management did little to control a drunk group of customers at the bar who ruined everyone's evening with their hooligan behaviour. I pointed this out to the Manager (and my meal issue) was given a "free" cocktail. I paid and left. Customer Services have declined to respond to a feedback email I sent them. AVOID!"

  • "I don't usually fill out these reviews but this experience was so bad. It is as if they are catering to a captive audience with the guests in the hotel the restaurant is attached to. Poor device, mediocre food, and an expensive bill are bad combination. Easy to say I'll not go there again."
    dined on 22/07/2013
  • "We loved the cocktails and our meal at Trader Vics. The décor is amazing and the staff friendly and service was prompt. The mixed fish starter was of good standard but the soft shell crab let it down. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his T-bone steak, a very generous size and cooked to perfection. My Szechuan prawns and noodle main was delicious and also a generous portion. We couldn't stay long enough to enjoy the band but will surely return on a future date!"

  • "I invited my best friend for her last girly week end as she is getting married on saturday... she was very desapointed with her food,,, she did not go for anything special (cheapest option on the menu)... she hardly ate it... and beleive me she is not fussy eater...and is pretty easy iwth her food. I came to this restaurant/bar for about 4 times now and loved it ... but after this experience, I am desappointed that she did not like her food ... sO that's spoilt a bit of your evening... went to the bar for another cocktail but did not stay too long..."
    dined on 29/06/2013
  • "A group of 8 attended for a birthday dinner. Food was great - every dish was enjoyable. It was expensive but not frighteningly so. The atmosphere was a little quiet on the Tuesday night we attended, but livened up as the evening progressed with the live music from the bar. Service was a little slow, but not bad enough to complain/ruin our evening. A special dessert was brought out for the birthday boy, and the serving team sang happy birthday - which was an unexpected but lovely touch."
    dined on 21/11/2012
  • "I was quite disappointed from the quality of the food and its presentation. The place is ridiculously expensive for what it offers! We are 4 people and we paid £300 for 2 starters, 4 main courses and 1 bottle if average wine! Music was too loud and we could not even talk. I would not go back - I believe it is a rip off!"
    dined on 16/11/2012
  • "Trader Vics looks like a polynesian tiki hut but the food is a mixture of asian & french. The service was impeccable & the food delightful. We were also pleasantly surprised when the bill arrived. I'd thoroughly recommend this place to anyone. The only let down was the lack of non rum based cocktails on the menu however they happily made me a cocktail of my choice so it ended well"

  • "My wife and I visited London for five days in late October 2012 from Boston. We were in London to visit with our youngest daughter who is doing a semester abroad. . We've been to London five times and this was our first stay at the Park Lane Hilton. My wife and I went to the bar alone one evening and the service was ok. But the Mai Tai was outstanding. Later that week, we took our daughter and a few of her friends out to dinner. That night, the service was excellent, the Piña Coladas were outstanding, the Cosmo Titbits - BBQ spare ribs, crispy prawns, crab Rangoon and cha siu pork were better than average and the fillet was excellent. Pretty pricey place to take a group of college kids, but a fun experience."
    dined on 27/10/2012
  • "the service was not quite as good as might have been expected for an expensive restaurant although we enjoyed the food and the fun atmosphere enormously . A shame the guitar player was really in the bar area more than the restaurant but we were still happy with the ambience and had a good evening. But at these prices we will only keep it for special occasions."
    dined on 16/10/2012
  • "grilled lobsters at 85 quid when you do not put the price on menu is just not right!!"
    dined on 27/09/2012
  • "Booked this restaurant for my husband's birthday as a surprise and was really disappointed in the food and service. Starters were ok but wouldn't have the combo again, we then had chateaubriand which at £62 you don't want it cold, as we had to wait for the waiter to finish with serving another table before he carved the meat. The dessert was the best course. The toilets were also in need of refurbishment, three cubicles, one with no lock and the other two looking really shabby, not what you would expect from with a 5* hotel. Much better restaurants in London, don't think we will bother going back."
    dined on 22/09/2012
  • "Dinner at Trader Vic,s was good. Food is very testy and cocktails very alcoholic! Good value for money. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were good, but expensive. The live music after dinner was entertaining ."
    dined on 30/06/2012
  • "Always fun at Trader Vic's. I highly recommend the Passion Punch cocktail, delicious."
    dined on 28/06/2012
  • "limited menu choice - no choice of cocktail - it was OK."
    dined on 28/06/2012
  • "The food was better than expected but is priced extremely high The service was so-so and the server did not have much knowledge about the food or cocktails which is not good enough when they add a whopping 15% service charge as standard."
    dined on 23/06/2012
  • "Very good meal, 3 options for starter and mains, 1 option cocktail and dessert. Food was good, always one vegetarian option included. Desert was amazing. Only disappointment was the 15 percent service charge which is included on top of the deal and if you order more cocktails added on they are very expensive, although very good cocktails so some may see it as worth it. Overall I would recommend it, I had a lovely time with my girlfriend. the staff were attentive but left you alone as well so you could have undisturbed conversation."
    dined on 22/06/2012
  • "Our meal at Trader Vic's was a huge disappointment. Despite being largely empty for most of our meal, the service was unapologetically slow, and we believed worse for us, on the top table deal, than the few a la carte diners. The set menu was very limited, which is common. The food was bland and the meat very fatty. The staff found the two allergies on our table difficult to cope with and served a clearly unaiitable dish one, which couldn't be eaten. Its saving grace is the fun decor, although it felt a little dispirited with so few diners. None of the five in our group would return, nor recommend the restaurant at all."
    dined on 15/06/2012
  • "I met a friend at Trader Vic's for a casual dinner. The three course set menu, at £19.99 including a cocktail was fantastic value for money, albeit a very limited basic menu. The food was good and the portion sizes large. It was great for the occasion, however the decor now I have to say does feel a little dated."
    dined on 07/06/2012
  • "Dark and 1970's clubby atmosphere that was a poor value overall. Top Table "offer" was effectively useless so once we were past that and ordered from the standard menu service and food were good though unimaginative. TV's dishes we tried were salty/sweet combinations of generous proportions. Wine list very limited. Time for an update Vic!"
    dined on 04/06/2012
  • "I'm from San Francisco and have been to three Trader Vic's restaurants. The interior is what one expects, but the food was less exciting than a Big Mac-much less. Judging by the number of people dining there I believe many locals feel the same."
    dined on 03/06/2012
  • "The food was nice but I wasn't crazy about the low lighting. I could barely read my menu. I went for offer and the food was tasty but the portions were a bit small. I ended up going straight to Sainsburys for some nibbles afterwards. On the offer there was only 1 choice for desert. It was delicious but the menu did not indicate that the dish was full of nuts. This could cause a major problem for some as it was so dark you couldn't see them and an allergy sufferer may only realise when it's too late! Stupid not to mention the presence of nuts on the menu! Also service was a bit slow albeit polite and friendly. Good cocktails."
    dined on 02/06/2012
  • "Although the TT deal is good value, Trader Vic's was disappointing. The surroundings are shabby, hard to believe it's in the Park Lane Hilton. Very little choice on the set menu, 3 starters, 3 mains and only one dessert. One of the mains wasn't available and they replaced snapper with salmon without checking first! Waiting staff knew nothing about the food other than to say it was 'very nice'. I won't be returning."
    dined on 01/06/2012
  • "decent food, decent cocktails (but a bit expensive), and good allrounder, but not one to get too excited about."
