Diner Reviews
  • "Good food, nice location, good atmosphere in a busy but not crowded restaurant. The service was very friendly, extremely accommodating and very, very polite - made a big difference."

  • "The restaurant overlooking the Thames is beautiful and romantic. But watch the prices as they add taxes and charges of 12.5% making it an overpriced place."

  • "The place is very pleasant and the food was just ok. They were out of lamb and it frustrate our order. Though sympathetic waitresses, the service was really slow."

  • "The service was polite and friendly but seemed a little scatty at times, however that didn't detract from what is a beautiful old building, in an outstanding location, with a epic view and great cosy atmosphere. The food was above average, and the prices reasonable for an establishment that got nearly everything just right."

  • "The thing that I enjoy most about the Trafalgar is the light that come in off the Thames, passing through the large bay windows and flooding the restaurant. Its invigorating, that and the meandering muddy river. The food has always been good here, meat and fish, but being by the river I also go for the fish, and am never disappointed. In my opinion the specialty here is the White Bait, washed down with a pint. The staff are usually very accommodating and helpful too, so I have no complaints. I'm a regular and will continue to be."

  • "After many excellent meals at the Trafalgar Tavern, last Sunday lunchtime was a slight disappointment because it was a bit below par. I have never seen the place so crowded - however our table was ready on time and the service as attentive as ever. However, the meal was a little less excellent than usual. One friend had to send back her French Fries because they were leathery and cold (the replacements were excellent) and the taste of my roast beef was completely overwhelmed by the overpowering strength of the gravy. If we had never eaten at the Trafalgar Tavern before we would have been very happy with the meal that we had there - but we had, so we were a bit disappointed. But it was a very busy day so perhaps they had some excuse."

  • "Es medio dificil de llegar, pero vale la pena. Es dificil encontrar en londres donde comer bien. Este es uno de esos lugares. Recomiendo especialmente el medallon de carne."

  • "The great surprise here is the food. Truly great roast beef (medium cooked so not my usual - rare -but still delicious). Wonderful gravy and proper veg. Starter of scallops and black pudding was delicious and worth the 12.50 price. Cheesboard nice size - although mostly jams and spreads with adequate amount of cheese. The pub is in a lovely location and has great views - we got a window table as requested. Negatives Service - nice enough people but at these prices the service should be a LOT better. Our table was a mess of dirty glasses and we had to wait 15 minutes with empty plates and then ask to be cleared Decor - a wonderful building and wonderful history but seriously in need of a nick of paint in several areas. Gents are a disgrace"

  • "What a gorgeous setting to have such a lovely meal in. Seated in the restaurant are we had panoramic views of the Thames and the City of London. Food was really scrummy yummy as was the wine. Service was lovely."

  • "good food with a nice homey atmosphere on the Thames"
    dined on 11/11/2013
  • "The restaurant is in a great location, right next to the Thames. It is split across two rooms and not at all cramped. We were in a party of four and ate three courses each. The tiger prawn starter was off the menu, but the scallop replacement with mini black puddings was fantastic. The whitebait was also very tasty and can be ordered as a starter or main. The loin of pork was a little dry. The fish and chips were average. The Spanish Galleon's (in the town centre) are better. The eton mess and chocolate brownie were both rich and filling. Overall, a nice experience. There was a large engagement party in the adjoining room which perhaps dampened the ambience, but I can imagine it being a nice intimate venue, even on a Saturday night."

  • "I love eating in the Trafalgar's dining room. Even on a grey day, the big windows let in lots of light, and there is always something to see on the river. The food is very good - a broad range of fairly substantial fare, appropriate to the setting, and served by helpful and friendly staff. The prices are typical for an upmarket London pub - not cheap, but the view definitely makes it worth it!"

  • "Lovely window table with glorious views. Very cozy and romantic with all the candles. Food lovely"

  • "The Trafalgar Tavern gives you huge portions of Sunday lunch. It gives you huge portions of most things (the fishcake starter is main course size) but especially of Sunday lunch. To be fair, they warn you: the menu tells you that the roast chicken is half a roast chicken, and it is. But there's quality as well as quantity: the meat and vegetables are carefully sourced and cooked. And views of the river, too. The only caveat is that it's a pub, and a popular one. The restaurant part might have serious-ish gastropub furniture and glassware, but the atmosphere is pub. If you're worried that it might be too pretentious for your family get-together, don't be. Just don't go expecting library-like calm."

  • "Fabulous views of the Thames and really appreciate the window seat. The food and service are great too. I would definitely recommend it."
    dined on 13/10/2013
  • "We were a large group for dinner. The location is excellent and the decor is very traditional. Food was great and service fairly good. We've been a few times since and always had a good time and enjoyed the food."
    dined on 21/06/2013
  • "I had a birthday party there, it's great atmosphere, very British and not too casual, not too formal. There was a wedding reception going on at one of function rooms, looks brilliant."
    dined on 12/10/2013
  • "Very nice sunday lunch....and excellent beer I might add...and it's on the river in Greenwich. What more could you ask for?"
    dined on 06/10/2013
  • "Starters were good though the quantity of black pudding overwhelmed the flavour of scallops. Of the mains the salmon was ok but could have been hotter. A rib eye steak was returned having been ordered medium, but served rare oozing blood, another medium steak was perfectly cooked and presented . A side order of new potatoes was served on a cold plate and was only luke warm , as the meal progressed they rapidly cooled , we left 1/2 the serving. We had a fabulous window seat with viesw of the river, the decor was interesting and the venue was in a superb position, the fact the central light fittings had been removed and the wiring left poking through the ceiling detracted from the ambience."
    dined on 01/10/2013
  • "Possibly under rated as an eatery. The Trafalgar mixes good quality fare and service. It is also great for impressing visitors from overseas - especially if you can get a window seat. The bar area was noisy when we were there. By comparison, the restaurant area offers a quiet haven for eating and conversing without resorting to shouting."
    dined on 28/09/2013
  • "The food was excellent the service was superb and the bill wasreasonable"
    dined on 28/09/2013
  • "We visited the Trafalgar on a Saturday and luckily we had booked a table! We were sat by one of the windows overlooking the Thames, and felt quite special as we were served very attentively, but without it being intrusive. The table was laid with a white table cloth and starched white knapkins, sounds very formal, but it wasn't, just much better than the usual paper ones. The food was great, and all in all it was a very enjoyable lunch. We will come again."
    dined on 17/08/2013
  • "This is a lovely hotel with great views and a lovely atmosphere. The food was good - simple options rather than nouveau cuisine - good pub classics although the vegetarian options were few. Highly receommended for during the week when it is quieter and has more locals than tourists. And also on a sunny day to enjoy the view."
    dined on 30/07/2013

  • "Booked night our for my husband and i, could not picked a better place. Staff helpful, polite and location fantastic. And the food first rate. Thank you we will come again."

  • "Really nice food, amazing view and friendly staff!"
    dined on 02/08/2013
  • "The Trafalgar Tavern is a fantastic pub for a drink by the river, but I wouldn't recommend it for food. The food standard was fair pub food, but was overpriced for the quality of what you get."
    dined on 25/07/2013
  • "Excellent value, an enjoyable lunch in a cool haven on a hot day! Looking forward to future visits."
    dined on 25/07/2013
  • "I picked this place because of its location and previous good experiences. However, the service was distinctly average - we arrived early for our booking and were asked to sit elsewhere while they prepared, but weren't told when table was ready. Bar staff more interested in talking to each other than serving drinks. When the food came, the main course - roasts - we're good, but give the desserts a miss. Both those we ordered were not as advertised and it took a considerable debate with the wait staff and manager to get even one refunded."
    dined on 21/07/2013
  • "2 men 2 women. Meal good but could do with larger portions. Fish was very small for the price compared with rib eye ."
    dined on 20/07/2013
  • "Lovely and cool in current climate.....we wanted a quick pre-cinema supper - but found if you didn't know your table no. and pre reserve it you were in trouble......the waitress wanted to sit us next to a very noisy bar. the food was very good and the views are outstanding..."

  • "On a hot day in July the Trafalgar Tavern offered a relaxing spot by the open window with just enough breeze to cool the room. After starters of grilled tiger prawns and a Caesar salad, Sunday roast lamb was plentyful and tasty and the wife's cod likewise. Great selection of draught ales and lagers and the bustling river traffic made a pleasant backdrop to the meal and conversation. A generous cheeseboard for her and some Eton Mess for me with coffee rounded off a delightful afternoon in Greenwich. Would definitely return"
    dined on 14/07/2013
  • "£16 for a burger (with bacon & cheese), some french fries and a token spoonful of what I can only best describe as miscellanous coleslaw. The burger itself was over cooked. My friends had roast lamb, which was good, but not great and probably not worth the £18 price tag."
    dined on 14/07/2013
  • "We were looking for a riverside Greenwich pub for a good meal with friends for a sunny Friday night . The Trafalgar Tavern was perfect fit. We sat at the window and watched the sun set over the river. We ate whitebait, and all had fish main courses. The food was well presented and delicious. The atmosphere was lovely - the restaurant is elegant with high ceilings, large windows and a simple decor. We will return"
    dined on 05/07/2013
  • "This was our third visit to Trafalgar Tavern - we've never been disappointed with the food, service and atmosphere. This time we used Top Table to make the booking and were doubly pleased as this ensured a place in the restaurant and a table by the window overlooking the Thames (although I gather a window table is not always available). The food was beautifully presented and the staff attentive. Just great."
    dined on 08/07/2013
  • "Having booked a table for 18:00hrs I was most suprised to find they were short of food! We ordered Chicken Salad but was told they were out of chicken! The chips shown on the menu were hand-cut - but were told they had run out. Could have fat or thin instead. The staff were run off their feet although the restaurant wasn't that busy. However, when the food arrived it was hot and delicious. Couldn't be bothered to order desert afterwards though as the staff were struggling and worried about what they had left. Funnily enough though I enjoyed the experience, reminded me a bit of Fawlty Towers. I would go back."
    dined on 06/07/2013
  • "A great place for a drink or a bite to eat. Many table, in doors and out, right along the banks of the Thames, Greenwich is a pleasant town to walk through. Good pub food, lively atmosphere."
    dined on 29/06/2013
  • "Lovely ambient, smily service but food quality too poor. I would go back only for a drink to sit outside on a sunny day to enjoy the location in that corner by the river"
    dined on 29/06/2013
  • "We had a sunday lunch for 15 booked and they coped with this but the food although in big portions was mediocre and not very tasty. The venue and views are great so maybe this overtakes the food and they need to work on taste and not just large portions."
    dined on 09/06/2013
  • "I've been to the Trafalgar Tavern quite a few times over the years. It's a good place to spend the afternoon drinking and just talking with friends while watching all the boats going past, the selection of beer is good and it's usually well kept. For this trip I booked through Top Table - having not visited the Trafalgar for a few years - and the experience was pretty well flawless! The Pinot Noir was great, the steak and bearnaise sauce was excellent - a good cut in the first place - and the sauce was freshly made. Green beans perfectly cooked and the hand cooked chips a great match to the rest of the dish. The service was also also good. The only slight disappointment was the desert menu. Recommended for the views, food and service."
