  • Terrible food and average service

My expectations were good but the food was really over prices. There is nothing worse than coming out of a restaurant and feeling you did not got value. It's not about the amount you spend it is about feeling you paid a fair price. The food was not great and the service was average. Was gutted and would not go back. I am always a positive person so its a real shame to have to write such a negative review but with some many places to choose from in London then did not want people making the same mistake

I arrived at the venue 25 mins early and straight away was shown to my table, however, being alone, I asked to have a drink at the bar which was met by hesitatation before being ushered to a secluded corner right at the back of the room. I was seated and left. I asked if I should order my drink from the bar and was told someone would take my order-10 mins later, no one came, so I went to find someone to take my order! Given the secluded nature of my seat I asked to sit at the table. The booking was at 2.30-we left just after 6pm, not due to a leisurely lunch but this is how long it took to be served 4 mains and 2 desserts, the coffees never arrived! Food was "good", service "poor". would try again if someone else initiated it.

  • Hix at his best

This is another in the growing number of Hix venues in the capital and it doesn't disappoint. With the usual quirky touches here and there (from a Hirst cow and chicken in formaldehyde above you as you eat to the animated erotic displays in the toilets) the ambience is a cut above. The food is typical Hix and a very concise menu of beef and chicken keeps it uncomplicated and assures you eat what the man intended.

Really enjoyed my experience at Tramshed - the service was impeccable - the food was gorgeous and all reasonably priced! Well worth it - we had a bit of everything (cauliflower starter, sample of the steak, peri chicken, egg and chicken, credit crunch ice cream) Yum - can't wait to go back!

I took my large family to Tram Shed for a graduation celebration. Nice place, very open with a modern feel, serious meat options which suited us. Not cheap but very good food, prepared really well and with great flavours. Good selections at the bar and the deserts were great, especially the caramel fondue. Service was efficient and helpful.

I went to the Tramshed about 2 years ago and was disappointed to find the quality of service and food had decreased since then. Our waitress kept coming to our table for drinks orders even though we told her we would order when everyone had arrived. Once we were all seated, it was very difficult to get any staff's attention to order. Food was mediocre. We ordered the steak medium rare and it was more medium/well done. Not very impressed with the sides of broccoli either - plainly steamed with no effort at presentation whatsoever.

...do it well. Chicken and steak aren't difficult, so if you are going to do a chicken don't overcook it until it is dry and mealy and if steak, make it tasty not bland. Use something aged. The whole place has gonbe way down since last visit some time ago. Everything about it is now very, very average and relying on its location - certainly not on repeat visits

The steak was adequate but not great. It needed to be great, given the marketing. It came very, very fast ... not sure how they managed that. The adjoining table sent their's back. Everything just seemed too quick. Wham, bam, thank you ma'am. And I'm really not sure about the moving images of topless ladies in the gents. The staff seemed enthusiastic and cared.

I used to go to Tramshed for their impeccable 2-course express lunch menu about twice a month. The options changed everyday and it was not only a treat to be in such an iconic London restaurant, but for outstanding value. The service was cheery and if you got there early, it was super fast. No so anymore. The lunch menu is now 4/5 single course options, all of which are essentially 'a sandwich' (still £9.95). The food was really distinctly average. Most of us (from 8) had a sandwich, some of which were cold and all of which felt disappointing. Whilst our waiter was trying hard, it didn't feel slick and knowledgeable, but harried and uncertain. We all agreed we'd be finding a new venue for our 'treat lunch'.

We were looking forward to coming while in for a quick trip. Despite reading reviews that the place had gone downhill a bit, we decided to give it a try. Our waitress didn't even apologize for not coming to give us water or get our drink order -- for nearly 15 minutes. Then it took another 15 minutes to even receive the drinks. It went downhill from there. Our appetizers were fine, but our main dishes were uninspired. We weren't in a rush, but this was ridiculous. If I'm going to have a 3 hour dinner I want it to be an experience, not a situation where dishes are coming out at different times, our medium rare steak comes out literally raw...I could go on but I won't. If you have a choice, skip it. Too many other options.

The food was fine, but the service was absolutely awful, bordering on non-existant. We had to prompt every single order as we were roundly ignored for the duration of our stay. Nice setting for a restaurant, but tables are packed in too tight and the service was abysmal, enough for me to not want to go again.

Lunchtime. Not very full, but just on the OK side of empty. Good prompt and smiling service. Virgin Mary - one of the best ever. Piri piri chicken - decent but small. Side salad - small one leaf-type salad with a mustard vinaigrette. Again OK. My companion's beef fillet salad looked fine too if not over generous. We both had a pudding. Mine was apple pie (small but good) with custard served in a ludicrously small jug - at least twice or three times the amount would have been required (what does custard cost?) to look decent. The other was an adequate looking treacle tart. No wine. Bill was about £75 for two. Verdict? The place looked "cool". Food OK if not particularly exciting. Expensive but not outrageous. Go again? Maybe.

This is a 'nice' place - ambiance, even on a Monday evening was great, but the food is a little limiting, and just on the ok side of 'greasy'. I think its getting a little 'old' though as a venue as the food doesn't really ever change, and the choices are the choices - chicken or steak!

The restaurant itself is lovely and big however we were freezing inside! And then the food which I admit would have been lovely if it wasn't like warm! It was as if it had been sitting out for ages definitely not straight from an oven! The staff weren't very attentive apart from one waitress who when she did speak to us was very lovely! Also we went on a Sunday lunch time so wasn't exactly busy or the end of the day so no reason for barely warm food to be served! Such a shame as was really looking forward to this lunch!

From the genuinely friendly staff who greet you at the door to the toilets, this place exceeded our expectations repeatedly. My Atlantic prawns were exquisite, fresh and tasty, my fish fingers, chips and mushy peas were let down only by their name which makes them sound so much less than they are. Beautiful cod, expertly fried, divine minted mushy peas and fabulous tartar sauce. My date's steak was, apparently, the most perfectly cooked, soft and tasty rib-eye he had ever had the good fortune to eat. And the dessert... warmed, salted caramel sauce with doughnut pieces and marshmallows so soft they melted in your hand en-route to the sauce to share, thank god! Just get it. Don't even think about it.It's the right thing to do.Like eating here.

I went with my friend for a late lunch and chose the beef salad as a mains. The meat was perfectly cooked and quality salad leaves were used but the dish was too salty. So that was a tad disappointing. However, I tasted some of his chicken and it was delicious. We shared the salted caramel marsh mellow and doughnut desert. 1 week later and I am still dreaming about this. It was literally heaven. And I will be going again on a regular basis; each time sampling a different mains but will end with the same desert every time. WAWSERS.
