Diner Reviews
  • "One of the best sushi restaurants in London (without breaking the bank) and great to have it local. Food is divine and speaks for itself, staff are friendly, helpful and accommodating, drinks are scrumptious!"

  • "Dinner was scrumptious...dessert was amazing and cocktails delish!"

  • "Tsunami is one of the best value Japanese in London - excellent food, good choice. The only complaint is that the main room can be quite noisy. Moved after starters to a table in the little terrace outside, no fuss."

  • "We enjoyed the food enormously, and the service was excellent. Very glad to find that the disco music that seems obligatory these days was less intrusive this time. Why have it at all in a crowded restaurant? This Muzak is the only drawback of the restaurant."

  • "Tsunami was new to us when we visited for lunch on a Saturday. We were probably fortunate in that there were few other patrons as it took some effort to catch the eye of the waiting staff; this level of service could have been very frustrating on a busy evening. However, the food was excellent; better than expected given the location. We shared several appetisers, amongst them: yellowfin tuna tartare, which was quite unusual in texture but delicious; superb salt and chilli squid, very crisp with a wonderful sauce; wagyu beef and foie gras nigiri, which were so tasty; and the most fabulous snow crab and prawn dumplings, probably the best we'd ever tasted. We would definitely return again for the quality of the food. Recommended."

  • "It was my first time eating here. It is located just outside clapham high street which is convenient. The ambience could work for an intimate date, or a casual lunch/ dinner with friends as well. They have outdoor seating which gives you a view of people milling in and out of the station. Service was excellent, our waiter kept checking on us and refilling our water glass without having to prompt him. The food was great. The sashimi selection was delicious although I could state that you could get the same quality from japancentre at a lesser price. The mains were absolutely gorgeous. I recommend this as a good option for a first date since it offers options for people with specific diets."

  • "No complaints at all, good food at good prices and would happily go again"

  • "Had a wonderful evening there. Food and service were great as always"

  • "I went for dinner with friends on a busy Friday evening. We were squashed into a corner of the restaurant in a booth/chairs which meant you had to squeeze past your fellow diners to get up. I'd read great reviews for Tsunami and was expecting something spectacular but found it all a bit underwhelming. Maybe we didn't choose the right dishes but the presentation didn't match the photos I'd seen on the website. Portions were on the small side and apart from the sauces didn't have much flavour. We shared some tempura and the batter was greasy and not crisp! The sushi rolls were ok but didn't differ much from supermarket sushi. The Toban Yaki had dirty looking prawns - not good. I don't think I'd go again based on this experience."

  • "We hadn't visited Tsunami for about 10 years but found the sashimi and the oysters were still well worth the detour. So was the oyster shooter! Oysters are at their best when eaten fresh, but we still enjoyed Tsunami's cooked option - the seared oysters were almost raw and tasted beautiful! Service was a little bit slow but we were in no rush anyway. The wine list offered plenty of interesting white wine options for seafood. Also lots of tempting original options on the menu (the sushi with truffle mayo was a highlight!), the only slight downside being that it all ends up on the pricy side... But we'll still come back for more, no doubt!"

  • "Took someone here for a nice romantic evening. The service was amazing, as was the food and the cocktails. The scallops and the black cod are both so good you'll want two of them... too bad everything else is so amazing. "

  • "We ordered the bibimbap which is a very spicy dish but it's ok because the spicy sauce comes on the side. However, not only it took forever, when it finally came the waiter ruined it by tossing the whole of the spicy sauce on the dish without asking first. I asked for a replacement and also asked for them to keep my salmon teriyaki warm until it was ready. After another long wait they came to tell me that they made a mistake again and instead of making another vegetarian bibimbap they made a meat one and asked me if I wanted it (I don't eat meat). The salmon teriyaki never came back either. There were also 3 really drunk guys on the next table swearing really loudly. I'd been there some 5 times before. Never going back again. "

  • "Tsunami continues to produce high quality Japanese food at a reasonable price compared with the majority of West End restaurants. There is a wide variety of new style and traditional sashimi, tempura, sushi and grilled meats and fish. However, the choice is now becoming more pan-Asian, which is probably good for business in attracting more customers, but is a shame for the purist looking for genuine Japanese cuisine. Portions have become noticeably smaller in recent times - still acceptable but far less generous than before, with black cod at £28 a very pricey (and smaller) portion these days. The wine list could do with a re-fresh - there are some excellent southern hemisphere options now available which would broaden the choice offered."

  • "Sushi is all about the freshness, and I'd had good experiences of this restaurant in the past, so was very disappointed that the fish was slimy and the tuna grey as opposed to red."

  • "good on the whole .Delicious sahimi and sushi but beef tataki was disappointing"

  • "Good dining experience. Food good. However, too bright in the restaurant. "

  • "This is a good all round Japanese restaurant with an excellent menu... Good choice of food from fish/veg and meat... Good service a little over priced but food is delicious. Overall I would recommend going this is my second time and I will definitely go again, I'm a fussy eater and love variety and freshness and this definitely has both! "

  • "Gorgeous food as always - inventive and interesting, particularly the wagyu beef! The restaurant was very busy, even on a Sunday evening, but was a treat as always. "
    dined on 25/05/2014
  • "We feasted on Fabulous sushi and sashimi and inventive rolls, with delicious tempura and miso soup to start and tasty teriyaki to end. The room feels buzzy but tables are well spaced. Though the decor feels grown up, the restaurant is also completely approachable and family-friendly. Absolutely delicious from start to finish. My entire family loved it."

  • "Tsunami used to be a regular haunt when we lived in the area, but it's been a few years since we last visited. The food was as good as I remember; beautifully fresh and presented with care and skill. The soft shell crab tempura was a particular highlight. The restaurant itself was a letdown, with tables crammed so tightly together we spent most of the evening with a waiter's bum hovering over it, clearing or serving our neighbours. The service was well meaning, but - given conversations we couldn't help but hear from our fellow diners - not particularly knowledgable on the food. "
    dined on 24/05/2014
  • "Its busy and bustling and the food is OK, but not that special. With two bottles of wine (around £35 each) the bill for four came to £195"
    dined on 23/05/2014
  • "A great place for 2 or 4 larger groups should go elsewhere Only because it is not a huge place food is fantastic and service excellent"
    dined on 20/05/2014
  • "Quality of fish here is excellent. It is expensive but we knew that before we got there! 5 of us were accommodated well. apart from sushi, we also ordered Korean Bibimbap which was also pretty good. We ended the meal with dessert wine i..e sparkling pink sake! Good location in Clapham North as we went on to the nearby pubs to continue enjoying the warm weather that weekend. There are actually a few veg options so everyone is taken care of."

  • "We have been coming here for ten years and have never been disappointed. Beautifully presented dishes, wonderful tastes and good service. Don't change a thing! "

  • "Enjoyable meal at Tsunami but nothing to write home about. I'd heard good things but was slightly disappointed. The food is highly enjoyable and very well presented but the ambience felt a bit tacky to me. Service was certainly not served with a smile. I'd happily return with a large group for a birthday gathering or something along those lines but wouldn't be rushing back for a smaller, more intimate gathering."

  • "Great food, service and overall dining experience. We are regulars and never been disappointed."

  • "This is our local Japanese restaurant and always great! Food is just delicious, and service very fast and attentive. Highly recommend. Favourites are the prawns wrapped in angel hair, and the beef teriyaki. "

  • "We really enjoyed our meal at Tsunami. Fabulous sushi, drinks and all of the other food was great as well. The service was excellent, and they gave us no problems whatsoever when we used our TopTable voucher to pay. Can't wait to go back! Great place for a nice meal out in Clapham."
    dined on 26/04/2014
  • "We've been a few times and I still have my go-to's which I doubt will change. The luxury sashimi set with the melt-in-the-mouth scallop and tuna are a mush while for main the black cod and pork belly are still a firm fave! Fabulous service very attentive and helpful. will definitely be going back."

  • "They have the best started in any restaurant I have been to!"
    dined on 26/04/2014
  • "Having eaten here a few years ago, the restaurant is definitely moving towards another market. Food not as excellent, just decent Japanese. Main courses less Japanese, more standard British. Service very quick, so in and out in under 90 minutes. We were going there for a special occasion and was disappointed to the move to a more fast food environment."

  • "Great food, service and overall dining experience. We are regulars and never been disappointed."

  • "Another wonderful meal at one of our favourites. Delights of baked aubergine, soft shell crab tempura and beef tataki salad good us off to a wonderful start.......all fresh and delicious - particularly the salad. Black cod tempura followed with the amazing addition of miso sauce (a great suggestion by our waiter - who was outstanding) and the real star of the show Wagyu Beef with two amazing sauces and sauteed mushrooms.........honestly well worth the money and one of the best things that either of us had eaten. We got there before 7 pm and so enjoyed the 20% off food and at a total of £90 with service, a glass of syrah, a cocktail and a mocktail we thought it was pretty good value. Would absolutely recommend this restaurant - it's a gem!"

  • "Went for dinner at Tsunami with a friend - great range of cocktails and lovely food from a great selection on the menu."
    dined on 17/04/2014
  • "Tsunami is our family treat restaurant. Our kids are 10 & 12 and love going there. We usually go for a 6/6:30pm seating so we are out when all the trendier crowd arrive. I've noticed that there another families in there for an early seating. The sushi is fresh and there are plenty of options on the menu for all of us. We introduced our daughter to Volcano Rolls and she's hooked! There are also plenty of cooked fish and meat options, it's not just sushi."
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "Do not bother with this restaurant. They pack in too many people and the kitchen cannot cope. Half the food did not arrive and the waiters just blamed the kitchen and refused all responsibility. Food - when you receive it - is good but is it worth only receiving half of your order after copious complaints and sitting for over 2 hours for a total of 5 small dishes. Over-hyped, over-packed, will not return."
    dined on 11/04/2014
  • "Great place and good ambience, food top notch and the Sake warm hit the spot"

  • "Lovely meal, good service and a reasonable price. Would certainly re-visit on any further visits to London."
    dined on 09/04/2014
  • "Service becomes increasingly erratic as Tsunami seems to have filled its staff roster with the same mix of tourists as every other local restaurant, but fortunately the food remains excellent. None more so than the Salt & Pepper squid & yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno."

  • "Love the cocktails and the general ambience... i keep on coming back to this place!"
