A word from Valentina Notting Hill
Located on Notting Hill Gate, the delicatessen and restaurant not only offers the family’s signature range of own label groceries, which features 22 types of antipasti; 8 different wheatgerm pastas; 18 olive oils and 10 jams & honeys, but also store cupboard essentials and a range of fresh food.

The delicatessen has over 30 types of regional Italian cheese, as well as artisan charcuterie and a range of ready prepared foods from the restaurant kitchens to take home and serve.

Our restaurant serves hearty peasant style fare using recipes that have been passed through our family in the village of St Elia for generations.

Diner Reviews
  • "I really enjoyed my trip to Valentina. From the start the service was excellent. Good nibble options - chunks of salami and chunks of parmesan. My friend and I both had pizzas, I recommend the Bianca Valentina - rocket, parmesan and parma type ham. Nice leisurely lunch and we weren't rushed. Glad we went."

  • "The food is fresh and delicious. The wine list is pretty impressive. The buffalo mozzarella was very fresh. We had a lovely waitress."

  • "It is not completely obvious that Valentina is a restaurant as it is necessary to pass through the deli to get there. However, once there the place is a find. When we went (pre cinema) it was not crowded although soon began to fill up. The service was delightful, friendly but not overwhelming. The menu was interesting and the starters had more variety than usual in Italian restaurants. The main courses were delicious and again slightly different from other Italian restaurants. The portions were plentiful but not so big that one felt challenged. There are a good variety of decent wines. We would have liked to try the desserts but didn't have time. Altogether a most pleasant experience and a real find in crowded Notting Hill."

  • "Heard some great reviews and overall it did not disappoint, although the "freshly squeezed orange juice" was probably squeezed a long time ago! The quality of the starters (caprese salad, calamari) and main courses (vegetarian pizza and ravioli with spinach pasta) were excellent and the staff were friendly and efficient. A hidden gem!"

  • "Don't be fooled into thinking this is just a cafe in a deli. The service is very friendly and helpful, the menu offers an excellent choice and the food is plentiful, tasty and good value."

  • "Very welcoming staff, great atmosphere, excellent food, service very good although could do with a little more time between courses."

  • "A rare gem in the back of an old style delicatessent. One of the best value meals I have enjoyed in a while."

  • "We spent Valentine's Day there and had a lobster and calves liver. Both were very tasty. The staff were friendly and charming and it was small and cosy with a nice italian atmosphere. Also there is a deli shop which had some great food as well so we bought something for home. Overall it was a good value for money."

  • "Excellent food (I had gnocchi in a ragu sauce, and tiramisu) in a love cosy restaurant that had a wonderful ambience. Highly recommended."

  • "We had a good meal and experience. Staff friendly and efficient. However, the squid in the starter I had was too rubbery (over cooked?) and I had to leave most of it - pity as the sauce was good. Pizza was fine as was the fried calamari. Deserts also good. We were two adults and three kids and all had a good time."

  • "Great local Italian restaurant somewhat hidden by the shop front which sells excellent Italian meats, cheeses and goodies. Excellent service - nothing is too much trouble (even preparing a dish which was not on the menu). Very good food, extensive and reasonably priced wine list, and very friendly, welcoming ambiance. A great local in every way."

  • "unless I had been told this was a restaurant, I would have thought it was just a deli and walked past inside its great, must be one of the best Italian delis in London. We ate early- pre cinema, but service was slick and efficient We went for starters- but they were huge, mozzarella was excellent, interesting lasagne of peas and artichokes, and a god wine list"
    dined on 07/11/2013
  • "This restaurant is so delightful. It is one of the few truly authentic Italian restaurants in London, run by (charming) Italians with the ethos of a small family-run restaurant in Italy ...wonderful food without any pretentiousness. The wine is also excellent - even the Pinot Grigio... Go!"

  • "I like deli backed restaurants especially Italian. Second visit to Valentina disappointed only in the slightly dismissive service. Food was simple and delicious and the wine list good and fairly priced"

  • "This family run restaurant serves delicious Italian food with a good wine list too."

  • "Authentic, Italian countryside fare. As such don't even try to be on a diet to partake in Valentina's village feast, a taste of which you'll savour as you walk through the Deli to the Restaurant space- & it is a space that feels located at the rear of the Deli rather than the reverse. I had Linguine al scogliio & cod with bacon (to "moisten" the cod, which my son who watches Carluccio tells me is common for non-oily fish), my son had risotto + calves' liver. All prepared & served with professional care, although without the touch of inspiration that I would have appreciated on a balmy Saturday evening."

  • "I am never disappointed at Valentina. And this time I had the best Spaghetti Vongole I have ever eaten. It was simply perfect, wonderful sauce with exactly the right consistency, plenty of clams - there are so often too few - and perfectly cooked spaghetti. Don't miss the antipasto misto. It is incredible value, plenty for two people, and consists of the most delicious cuts and cheeses from the shop's delicatessen counter freshly sliced. Also I had a glass of pinot grigiot which was delicious and spicy rather than insipid and thin, which it so often is. Go. Charming staff too."

  • "We went just before an open air cinema viewing in Holland Park and the price looked right for what we wanted. The food was amazing and delicious. It is also a deli, so when we were running late, they packed up our food in plastic boxes and we took it away. Lovely waiting staff too - left us be but served us promptly."

  • "Another excellent visit to VALENTINA, Notting Hill. Delicious salad and my guest had the antipasto starter as a main course, and loved it. The fact that there is a restaurant/cafe behind the deli shop is not made clear. I passed it by on numerous occasions before I realised that there was an eaterie on offer. Such a pity that the venue is thus not as well known as it should be. On the other hand, that makes for an uncrowded setting at lunch time!"

  • "I really enjoyed our meal at Valentines a couple of days ago when I took my wife and my little son for dinner there. The staff were very attentive and very helpful with the one year old baby making a little mess etc. The food was really authentic and generous, didn't feel like dining at a typical high street restaurant where they do everything to make their margins higher by cutting down every aspect of the dining experience. Valentinas is one of very few remaining restaurants that you feel that you are in a genuine old fashion good old day restaurant. Bravo Bravo!"

  • "We came for a treat on Thursday evening to celebrate my daughter's departure for a gap year trip, along with our other younger children. It took almost an hour to receive our pizzas! We had ordered a starter, but after 30mins when it had not appeared, we cancelled the order. The pizzas still took another 25mins to come after this! Apparently there we only two people working in the kitchen that evening, and the restaurant was very full. Perhaps the waitress forgot to give in our order? Given the fact that we had small children with us, the likely waiting time for the food to arrive should have been explained. Then we could have decided to go elsewhere. This ruined what should have been a happy evening."

  • "Really great authentic Italian food, nice service. They forgot to bring an orange juice we ordered then tried to charge us for it, but they were quick to amend when we pointed it out. They didn't have bruscetta on the menu but when I asked if they could serve it for a starter, they rustled it up for us and it was the best I ever tasted... Really loved this place :)"

  • "Went with a group of 8 for my birthday. Food was lovely (particularly the starters, service was great. Pizza was a little bit too salty for my taste but generally very good."

  • "So nice to be at a restaurant where what is offered is what arrives, beautifully and simply cooked. The dish of antipasti is a perfect starter for two to share. And we both had calve's liver, perfectly pink and delicious, with a delicate sage and butter sauce. Excellent value bottle of wine, no nonsense about paying for water, real Italian coffee, real Italian waiters. Go."
    dined on 08/05/2013
  • "This was a relatively quick pre-concert dinner in what might be better described as a restaurant attached to an Italian deli and wine shop. Having said that it was pretty tasty food and lovely service and very good value"
    dined on 02/05/2013
  • "Great food and wines with fast and friendly service. The pasta with lobster was heavenly and the place was buzing on a Saturday evening! Definately going back for the ambience and lovely Italian food."

  • "I was so pleasantly surprised by the fresh food, no fuss approach & just great taste. Proper Italian Food in Notting Hill. Lovely service too."

  • "We ate at 6 on Easter Sunday, not a good time. But we were not welcomed, waitress continued sweeping floor and setting tables. Valentina wine was thin, meal portions small and overpriced, potato barely tepid. Liver and pannacotta dessert were excellent. Ambient music intrusive and loud. A thoroughly disappointing experience."

  • "This was the second time I had dined at Valentina's Notting HIll: the first time was a revelation -- delicious casual Italian food. This time was dreadful: slow, forgetful service; mediocre food. A real disappointment."
    dined on 14/03/2013
  • "Good sized portions and well cooked. Attentive service. Large Italian wine list very clearly and helpfully arranged geograpically. We started in the restaurant when they opened at 6:00pm so were the first to be seated. A good atmosphere developed (they were full when we left at 8:00pm)"
    dined on 19/02/2013
  • "my main complaint about this place is that it has very little atmosphere. the service is a bit hesitant and although the food is fine it's really just a cafe."
    dined on 30/01/2013
  • "Food at Valentina was comparable to top cuisine in a star-studded NHS trust. Presentation was excellent but the food was microwaved to dryness. Given the restaurant was not exactly the cheapest, it was not a good experience. However the shop is very good and highly recommended."
    dined on 29/01/2013
  • "We really enjoyed Valentina for our evening out (4 ex school friends). Friendly service, not too noisy and good food."

  • "I took my friend from school and we had the chicken in mushroom sauce and it was delicious. I then saw two italian guys havin dessert. I had the orange sorbet in an bored out frozen orange and my friend had a tirimasu in a coffee cup which she destroyed. A three course meal for two with 4 bottles of peroni and tip for £50.00 in the heart of london. You cant complain about that. You may also be tempted by the authentic italian shop at the front of the restaurant. It was not michalin starred but it was very warming the food was gorgeous and I think my attempts to woo my friend were suffering at the hands of the handsome staff. I would definitely give this little italian a try."
    dined on 22/12/2012
  • "The food is freshly prepared and nicely seasoned. There are many choices, and the food is fairly priced. This was our second meal at the restaurant, and the food was even better this time. And the store front food shop is excellent; we always buy something."
    dined on 05/12/2012
  • "We met for a cup of coffee but finally ordered a two course dinner and a bottle of Italian wine. The cuisine and service there are excellent! We enjoyed the time and the atmosphere. Thanks to the stuff!"

  • "The only provlem with Valentina is that it is not at all obvious that there is a restaurant within this deli. I only found the restaurant through looking for somewhere to eat in the area. I walk past the place daily and have even visited the deli without noticing the restaurant. And this is such a shame since our meal was fantastic. We both had a pizza which had a lovely thin base and proper authentic flavours. The starters (primavera and olives) were full of flavour whilst feeling light, and the dessert (chocolate fondant) which we shared was just so indulgent and just right for two. We had a glass of wine each and walked out with a bill that came to less than £25 each, which felt like a bargain. Lovely service too, we will return!"

  • "Had dinner here on Tuesday night having not realised there was a restaurant in the deli .. food was excellent - very impressed, would definitely return, staff were friendly and attentive. Only negative was that there were only a couple of other diners in there, so lacked a little ambience. Will definitely be going back"

  • "Valentina's a friendly new eatery in Notting Hill Gate. My best mate and I enjoyed mixed veg antiipasti (heatlthy, but good), and I liked my penne with meatballs (although the meatballs were on the small-ish side). I wished I'd ordered my companion's spaghetti with lobster and mussels at times. Pudding was great: a trio of ice-creams and panna cotta with gorgeous chocolate sauce. A good new addition to the neighbourhood."
