A word from Veeraswamy
Veeraswamy is one of the leading fine dining restaurants serving Indian food in the world today. It is part of the acclaimed Masala World Group, whose London restaurants serve Indian cuisines of the highest quality. The other restaurants in the group are leading fine dining restaurants, Amaya and Chutney Mary, and 7 Masala Zone restaurants which are brasserie restaurants.
Veeraswamy, UK's oldest Indian restaurant in Piccadilly, has been the rendezvous of the famous and fashionable as well as lots of ordinary lovers of Indian food since its inception in 1926. The luxurious, chic, and exotic décor evokes Maharaja's palaces of the 1920s. A menu of classical dishes from throughout India is combined with more contemporary creations. National Geographic, the highly respected travel magazine, has ranked it as one of the 10 Best Destination Restaurants in the World. No other UK restaurant is in this top 10 list.

Visited Veeraswamy a week ago on Tuesday evening. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, and eh food was absolutely excellent. The set-up of the restaurant is such that even though it is quite busy, other conversations cannot be overheard and it still feels nice and cosy. The prices do make your eyes water, but you also get what you pay for - this is decent value for money.

... the service could dial back on the attitude a little. I've been to Veeraswamy a half dozen times and always the food delights (except the time a colleague from India sent a dish back because they felt it wasn't authentic). This time the food was good, and it should be for the prices they charge. But the waiter was a little rude when I asked for a Kingfisher and instead of saying "we don't carry Kingfisher" insulted me for suggesting that would carry Kingfisher. I don't like being insulted by wait staff in front of business clients, which is why next time I guess I will reserve at the Cinnamon Club.

We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had the most delicious, beautifully presented, stunningly delicious Indian meal we have ever had. Maybe if I never ate Indian food and come from a culture who want to admire a new cuisine or to be seen in an expensive restaurant to tell others they've been there and done it; this is your restaurant. It is above the average regular Indian food but maybe if I paid half of what I did; I would be more impressed. But something that can get cooked ahead of time (mostly stewed) and dished out for me or scooped out and assembled to serve is heartbreaking. When I pay this much, I want creative and impressive courses with amuse bushes other than ginger soup with a piece of crab. My grilled shrimp was a bit tough - overcooked. The sauces were wonderful - but when one knows how to cook one's cuisine, why does it have to be expensive?

We were connecting through London on the way back to the US from Greece. The 24 hour layover allowed us to take a few hours in the city and we enjoyed a tremendous meal at Veeraswamy (a recommendation from friends). We had the Kholapuri Kofta and the Lamb Curry with naan and a the rose kulfi for dessert. All were fantastic in terms of flavor and very satisfying in terms of portion. The place is on the nicer side in decor and ambiance and the prices are very high (but then that's all of Europe and London in particular).

Veeraswamy is a top notch restaurant in every way. The entrance is tucked away, 5 metre off Regent Street. There is a lift to the first floor restaurant with opens out to sophisticated décor and a friendly greeting. We had a Sunday fixed price menu, which( at £26? for 3 courses) is very good value. Food is packed with flavours, but is traditional rather than the fusion dishes so many Michelin class Indian restaurants do. Sunday lunch menu is small, but varied. The crab and ginger soup is amazing and the chicken Jalfrezi superb. Even the lowly Gulab Jamon is raised a level. Probably my favourite Indian!

My friends and I dined here and had a very good dinner with traditional Indian dishes prepared with excellence. Vindaloo, curry and other dishes were as good as traditional food can get and one can see why this restaurant is approaching a 90the anniversary. Menu innovation--no. Excellent service from an attentive but not overbearing wait staff and a pleasant dining room all made for a very good experience and we will be back.

We had an excellent evening to celebrate my partner's birthday. We had a beautiful meal with the tasting menu with the most fantastic wines and my partner now wants to go to India as a result of the wonderful flavours she experienced in every dish. She marveled at the taste of pomengranate flakes in the lamb and the individual flavours within every dish. She has since told all her friends to go to your restaurant.

We were on a business trip to London and dined here early evening after enjoying a delightful Shakespeare in the Park presentation at Regents Park. We were courteously greeted and seated-and really appreciated the ambiance of fine dining so in the heart of the city on busy Regent Street - an oasis of old world charm energized by the immediacy of life viewed through the elegant glass windows. The food - tikka kebabs, roasted aubergine and paneer kofta -were all spiced with great finesse- exquisitely tuned to our rather discerning tastes, making for a most enjoyable dining experience. In the rarified world of Indian haute cuisine this was one of the best - its storied reputation well deserved!

For once, a fancy/posh place that actually serves good quality food. I had most of the veg options and some kebabs which were really good. The waiter was kind and helpful. Although we didnt have it, the wine list was matched by what one wanted to eat which was quite interesting. Expensive place but worth for business/special occasions

This was a special treat for my mother in laws birthday gift. We got the recommendation from a book of London as I believe it is the oldest Indian restaurant in London. It certainly exceeded our expectations. We had a window table overlooking Regent Street which started the experience off very well. It was a hard decision choosing from the menu as there was so much choice and we wanted to try everything. We picked a selection of dishes and the food was outstanding (especially the pineapple curry). The service was great and staff attentive. You expect to pay more for your meal here due to the quality of the food and location. We would certainly come back again and recommend to others! 10/10!

A great place to go for the ambience but the food was quite a let down especially given how exensive it was. We ordered the Hydrabadi Biryani which contained too much saffron and a scallop dish as a starter which also had too much spice and didn't allow for the delicate flavours of the scallops to come through. Brick lane restaurants offer much nicer Indian / Bangladeshi food at way more affordable prices.

As this restaurant had received very good reviews on Top Table we decided to give it a try while in London. However, we were really disappointed. We went here for a pre theatre meal. They have a special menu for pre theatre at a cost of £20 for 2 course but the choices were very poor that we ended up going A La Carte. The food was really expensive and nothing much to write home about. One of our party had the lamb which she said was very tough and not nice. There was no one else in the restaurant and therefore no ambience. I will not be recommending this restaurant.

The food was amazing and definitely worth the pricetag. The service was also amazing and the waiter was very helpful. The only bad thing was that we were rushed to order because the kitchen was going to close 10 minutes after we were seated. My suggestion is not to have a booking so late, because a big group needs more than 10 minutes to decide on the order, especially when we have so many amazing choices. Other than that, everything was perfect!

This is my favorite Indian restaurant in London. The food is beautifully prepared and presented. The service is attentive. Just an outstanding experience all around. Yes, it's expensive. And worth every penny. We had a party of seven for lunch. Two of us had the business lunch. The rest ordered a variety of items. We all shared. From vegetarian selections, to seafood, to meat, not a single dish disappointed. This was my second time at this restaurant - first was in June of 2012. Both occasions were memorable.

Needed and found somewhere with tasty food and quiet surroundings for a chat. Waiters were pleasant, impeccably dressed, attentive, there when needed. The ambience, though, is very similar to that of a 1000 Indian restaurants across the British Isles. The previous atmosphere of the hangout of the expats returning from the British Empire is all gone, no turbaned receptionist, not even an Indian beer to be had, very little in the way of photographs or artefacts of India past or present. My Kerela prawn curry was basically a few prawns floating in a (tasty) tomato sauce, did nothing to reflect the exciting cuisine of that part of India. The £50+ per person which we paid for a curry and a dessert with rice (extra) and drinks I find excessive.

I went to veeraswamy's a few years ago on business and although the food was amazing it did seem a tad expensive. My trip there the other day that was great value however. Sunday lunchtime and 3 courses from the a la carte menu for £27. This great food from the country's oldest Indian restaurant even with drink and tip comes in at under £40 per head. The restaurant itself looks great also with a view which overlooks Regent street.

Only one of the dishes was particularly good (chicken tikka) but the portion was small ). One spicy chicken dish was good - plenty of sauce but not so much chicken. The cauliflower and peas was nicely spiced. Other dishes were underspiced and overpriced - (dal and lamb shanks and especially the roti). For food, stick with the restaurants you know! But it was a restaurant for the experience of good service and ambiance and for the special occasion (80th birthday).

Veeraswamy makes a big deal of it being the oldest Indian restaurant in the UK. But, it should be known for its reinvention of many tired staples of Asian food. Its subtle variations of ingredients (such as pomegranate in its raita) and the expert touch of spices always is a delight. They also surprise in their pairings of unusual beers and wines to match the food. It's more expensive than your typical Indian restaurant, but is certainly a destination venue and is even better if you're able to get a window seat over Regent Street. Highly recommended.
