Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed the al fresco dining at Vivat Bacchus on Saturday night. The food was presented well and of good quality. Service was well-intentioned if a little disorganised at times. Overall it was a good value experience overall and an enjoyable meal."

  • "Good Location and easy to find. Sirloin steak and triple cooked chips were delicious. The food came out quickly and the service was good; the waiter was attentive. Restaurant atmosphere was laid back and rustic."

  • "This was our second time here-we came for the cheese room and the wine. The food and wine is good, Not cheap but not expensive, a great experience, lovely hostess. Go and see the cheese room, have the wine and enjoy the experience! we are coming back soon- part of a treat- and already looking forward to it. We've been as part of a group but can see us coming back as a couple too."

  • "I went for cheese and wine with my sister. Had an awesome time, we didn't know exactly what to eat. We got to go in the cheese room, try lots of different cheeses. It was amazing and he staff were so helpful. Thank you!"

  • "Ate outside as it was a nice sunny day. The restaurant is on a back street near London Bridge station so should be reasonably peaceful for central London, however we had a helicopter overhead a lot of the time, which didn't help (not the restaurant's fault of course). Food was flavoursome, although the grilled prawns my colleague had were overcooked and hard to shell. My rib-eye steak was rather thin and was also overcooked (I asked for rare and it came medium) although tasted good. Another colleague had the same steak and asked for medium-rare and it was medium too. Wine fairly pricey by the glass (£8-10). Service was fine. Didn't really see the inside or experience the ambience so can't comment on that."

  • "My friends love cheese so as a going away meal is was lovely to share the experience with them. The knowledge of the cheese was and the way it is presented was amazing. The ambience of the restuarant was lovely with a live band who weren't too loud, creating a great ambience. Couldn't fault the food, all in all a great experience and didn't realise how long we had been sat and drinking as we had such an amazing time. Will definately be back in the future"

  • "Sirloin steak and pork chops were delicious. Chargrilled on the outside and tender on the inside. Amazing triple cooked chips too. Restaurant was very lively and noisy mainly due to a large group booking but I like that, my partner did not. The food came out quickly, the service was good so overall a successful meal. Will have to go back another time to try the cheese room!"

  • "The Resturant has a varied menu of meat and fish with particularly good near dishes. The atmosphere is laid back and rustic. Service of good and not over bearing"

  • "Good food and friendly service, but it was difficult to hear across our table of 5 due to the noise levels in the restaurant. Also experienced the very small portion of chips mentioned by others on here that didn't appear to be triple cooked as advertised. Overall however a very nice meal and i'd return."

  • "Nowhere better to meet people at the end of the day; very near London Bridge Station, tables outside (although none in sunlight by 6.00pm), big wine list (with knowledgable advice from staff available) and the shared meat and cheese boards are pretty good value - so not a place to pig out but great for winding down."
    dined on 11/06/2014
  • "Had a 9pm booking on a Saturday, live jazz was nice background music but not the best jazz performance I'd seen. We were seated easily and the staff were friendly. The food was very good we both had steak's which were good very well. The highlight of the night was being taken into the cheese room where you can try everything and the decide what you want on your board, great selection, would go back again just for the cheese."

  • "Group of seven of us, bit of a last minute booking on a Saturday evening in June. The restaurant accommodated us, food was great and the service was efficient, helpful but otherwise unobtrusive. Everything was top notch, including a great wine list. Definitely recommended."
    dined on 07/06/2014
  • "We booked for 10 and although they were very busy, the service was excellent. We all enjoyed the food and wine and it is now one of our favourite places for business lunches as well as team dinners."

  • "Very easy to get to from london bridge station and good meeting place for us as we had family from all parts of London arriving for the afternoon. Food service was very good and staff were very friendly. Very pleasant environment ..............recommend !"

  • "went to vivat bacchus for a special occasion evening meal and booked a table for 10. found the ambience very sterile, very modern with a business look and not suited for an evening meal. we were seated between the door and the bar area at the entrance, not really given an option and the place was only about 15% full. there was a guy later playing a cello very well, so the music was good, but we found the food portions small and too expensive for the quality produced. the main issue would be the price of the wines - which were far too high and as before the complete lack of "cosiness""

  • "Great place to go with people who like lots of different things to eat. The sharing plates are lovely, and the wine list is superb. The service was perfect at the beginning, but it did get a little sketchy when things got busy. However we all said we'd go back, as it was really a good night with good food. Great location next to London Bridge station. A keeper on our list."

  • "Lovely selection of wines, great (unobtrusive) service and platters that are made for sharing - a very enjoyable experience!"

  • "All a bit expensive and empty at 7.30pm on a Saturday evening . Even the cheese room is £15 just to go in there doesnt say that on the menu."
    dined on 17/05/2014
  • "great cheese room, with helpful staff. Cheeses very well priced and delicious. The wine slightly more expensive."

  • "A good place to eat meat and drink wine. Overall I like it, although it is average value given the prices charged."

  • "Enjoyed a lush bottle of red wine and fantastic cheese board at Vivat Bacchus, London Bridge. We fancied something different to the standard three course meal as we'd been nibbling all day, so opted for a large cheeseboard between two of us and weren't disappointed. We were invited to the cheese room to personally select our cheese which was an experience in itself and all the more special because the lady who accompanied us knew her cheese well. We loved the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room at home. The only slight complaint we had was that it said the cheese board came with nuts and there weren't any?! Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable and very moreish. "

  • "I had a great experience with my girlfriend on a date out at Vivat Bacchus. We had wine and a cheese/meat platter which turned out to be delicious. Everyone was firendly and happy to look after any request we had. The only part I would have chaged is that with the amount of people in the restaurant, it can be quite loud and at times it made conversation a bit strained to hear. Other than that I had a great time and would very much recomend this to others!"

  • "We arranged lunch for a family 70th birthday celebration after a trip to The Shard viewing gallery. The reception we received at Vivat Bacchus was very warm and welcoming. The food from the outset, bread and olives, through, finally, to the visit to the cheese room was exceptional! The wine list was very comprehensive. Altogether a very special experience. To the team at Vivat Bacchus, keep up the good work! "

  • "Dealt well with a large party. Good steak and cheese board, accomidating staff, not bad value. Understanding of context of meal."

  • "A lovely lady took us to the cheese room to select our cheeses for our cheeseboard. She was most helpful and all the cheeses were amazing. The staff in general couldn't do enough to help and were very welcoming/pleasant. Would visit here again and recommend to a friend."

  • "My friend and I went for dinner midweek, having never been before. We decided to share some starters and a main, plus the cheeseboard. After placing our order we were kindly moved to a bigger table ( to accommodate our dishes coming out meze-style). The food was excellent, especially the aubergine and halloumi dish. Definitely would come again for the Sat jazz night. Service was charming and attentive. "

  • "This was my 3rd time at Vivat Bacchus. It's literally across the street from London Bridge so there's no long trek to make after you've had a lovely, satisfying meal. This is a place that is known for its wine, hence the name, and it also has a cheese room with 50-60 cheeses available so that you can make your own cheese plate! The food is very good, full of flavor, though I think it may be a touch pricey. But it's worth it. Good service. Also as it's off of Tooley street it's not in the middle of madness. There are a few tables outside the entrance for al fresco dining or even just for having a glass of wine. I'd highly recommend Vivat Bacchus and think it's much better than the other options that are close by in Hays Galleria."

  • "We went to the London Bridge restaurant because I had tried the Vivat Bacchus in Farringdon which was very good. Sadly the London Bridge restaurant was not up to the same standard. Slightly more down market than the other one its light casual approach to dining made it more of an after work place to drink rather than a destination location for a meal. The food was excellent but a very limited menu. The service was so intense we had to stop the waitresses taking away plates and glasses of wine before they were clearly finished. This was odd as they didn't have people waiting for tables and half the room was empty. The wine list was superb and the cheese room exceptionally good but sadly the decor and service let it down."

  • "We enjoyed a lovely meal with friends. Great back ground entertainment - fabulous food and wine! Recommended :-)"

  • "Very convenient, nice drinking area outside, excellent men, friendly and attentive service. Could do with more mid price options in the wine list."

  • "First visit to this restaurant was for mid week dinner. The restaurant had a warm atmosphere, with friendly service. The wine list was extensive as expected and the food was very good. Not necessarily a place for a romantic meal, but for a buzzy evening out it is great. I would return."

  • "The four of us returned to Vivat Bacchus in Hays Galleria this weekend, after a successful and enjoyable first visit in the autumn. It met our expectations in every way. the food and wine was really good, the ambience superb - a jazz duo played as we eat - and the staff service is as good as we get anywhere. There will no doubt be a third visit when next we come to London."

  • "Lovely smart restaurant with wide choice of foods which were well presented. Staff were very discreet but helpful. Not made to feel rushed at all nice live music on the Saturday night"

  • "First visit here, and wow the food is incredible! I had the special which was beef ribs (yes beef, and big they are!) marinated in coca-cola, honey and something else I can't remember. Served with a crunchy grated salad. The tenderness of this beef was amazing, never had anything like it. I was going to order root mash with it but the waitress advised me not to because the meal was quite big! and she was right! Best beef I've ever had though. Also I had a little choc pot dessert which was grand marnier flavoured, and that was amazing too! All this was gluten free and they were very attentive about my food allergy from the start, asking who was gluten free as soon as I sat down. Great wine list too, and they do fish as well as meat."

  • "I have not been in Vivat Bacchus for a long while and selected it for a birthday dinner on the basis of the memories I had from earlier. The restaurant has shrunk in the mean time and there is no separate fine dining section now. This just shows for how long I haven't been there! Having said that, the food was still excellent, the steaks for sharing are still there (the reason I chose the place) and there is still a good wine and cheese selection, albeit the latter seems to have shrunk as well. Given that the prices are kept at fine dining levels, there is now a little mismatch. But it is still one of my favourite London places."

  • "Really enjoyed the steak and the wine was pretty good but the crowning glory of Vivat Bacchus is the cheese room and the lady that works there. She has a fantastic knowledge of the cheese but is patient and happy to explain everything. I can thoroughly recommend the experience of trying and selecting your cheese board. Can't wait to go back (was almost tempted to go back today just for the cheese board)."
