  • "Ate in one of the booths which allowed a private conversation over a large bottle of fizzy water Nice healthy avocado, orawn and crab salad that was really fresh"

  • "Staff are very, very helpful and friendly. They are very attentive and patient although the restaurant and bar where both bust due to festival goers etc. I can also recommend the menu which is very reasonable priced with good selection of produce. The menu is also well represented with special offers such reduced mains for Aug. overall a very enjoyable dining experience with good food and great service."

  • "We were sat in a little cellar booth which was great for the dog as we weren't surrounded by lots of people and distractions. The dog was provided with a bowl of water and our food was delicious. The staff were attentive and friendly."

  • "Whighams is in an ideal location for a visit to the Book Festival and the waitress was very willing to get our order in quickly to meet with our time constraints. The food was very good - I had a mushroom risotto which was excellent! - and the service friendly and not all pushy. It was a very nice start to a good evening."

  • "I visited with friends. The service was attentive but relaxed and the food good. I've been a few times for both work and leisure and will definitely be back."
    dined on 31/07/2014
  • "This is my favourite place for both food or just a drink. Excellent selection of food on the menu and an outstanding selection of wines. Also has the type of beers my husband and his friends like eg Deuchers. So good all round."
    dined on 30/07/2014
  • "My husband and I had a lovely meal at the weekend. For a Saturday it wasn't too busy but assume as the festival kicks off it will get more busy. I had plenty of options from the menu but unfortunately my husband less options as he's not a big fan of certain fish and other than steak and some meat salads it was primarily fish related for mains. I would go back again with friends."

  • "The worst food I have ever eaten in Edinburgh, seemed as though it had been microwaved, tried to over charge us on the bill. Avoid!"
    dined on 03/06/2014
  • "We went to Whighams to enjoy an evening of live music and were surprised by the quality of the dinner and the value of the wine. Service was friendly and professional. We would eat there again. Its location on Charlotte Square is great for a New Town visit."

  • "We visited on a bank holiday Monday evening so not the busiest time but received really good food and service The house champagne recommended as excellent by the waiter lived up to its description and is well worth the £36 investment Would return next time we are in Edinburgh"
    dined on 05/05/2014
  • "Great for wine and tapas at the bar, not for quiet, romantic restaurant dining."
    dined on 25/04/2014
  • "Honestly, I was expecting good fishes and jazz music but I could not find either. It´s a shame because I really enjoyed the atmosphere and to be fair ....the service was perfect."
    dined on 19/04/2014
  • "This is one of the best restaurants I have been to. The fantastic value for money with the delicious food, makes me salivate just recalling the meal. The lobster was sweet and tender and made to allow the quality ingredient to stand up for itself without over complicating it with other ingredients. The service from our young female waitress was professional, friendly and attentive. The recommendations and advice on the desert was spot on with the port and sticky toffee pudding going down so well, that a second helping had to be ordered. The live Jazz however, was the main celebration at this meal, creating a lively atmosphere that impossible not to enjoy. "

  • "I really enjoyed my meal at Whighams, the dinning area is well set out and did not feel crowded. There was a relaxed atmosphere and we must of sat at the table for a good hour after having finished our deserts. The food tasted good and was always well presented and prompt. I will definitely be back soon."

  • "As my wife and I love seafood, this is a great place to eat. Oysters, smoked salmon, mussels, langoustines and a nice chilled bottle of Chablis. Doesn't get much better !"

  • "Great service and good value food from the 2 courses for £12 menu. It wasn't too busy either. Overall would highly recommend. Good wine list."

  • "We have been eating at Whighams for years when we visit Edinburgh. Not only a wonderful, unspoilt cellar feel but great unobtrusive service, and sensationally fresh seafood. Eat at The Kitchin last night and enjoyed Whigham's food better."
    dined on 07/02/2014
  • "Great buzzy atmosphere. Service and food great. Excellent value. Fish dishes are highly recommended. Don't rush you away from your table which is great. All in a great evening and great value."
    dined on 07/02/2014
  • "Food was great very noisy as the dining area is just an area cordoned off from the bar - Friday night and rugby weekend bound to be busy! The fido was good but the wine was amazing and real value for money and I just had it by the glass rather than the bottle! Recommend the claret and Aussie botrytis!"
    dined on 07/02/2014
  • "The food was great but what was better was the great accommodation to my food allergy. They were understanding and very helpful. Well done!"
    dined on 18/01/2014
  • "Enjoyed a relaxed christmas lunch with three frends this week but ate off the normal menu as had b ookked through toptable which avoided the £12.50 deposit per head for Christmas menu - also better value. Good sized starters and Mains which did not dissappoint and a couple of us indulged in desserts which also lived up to billing. Washed down with a couple of well priced bottles of vino and coffees and the whole thing was £40 per head including tip. Service was pleasant helpful and attentive and the only error of a coolish cup of coffee was instantly and unquestioningly remedied."
    dined on 23/12/2013
  • "Very disappointed, seated at 8.15 did not even get bread until 9pm. All of us bar one ordered steak to be told there was none left?? On a Saturday night?, we did at that point try to phone round other restaurants but all full, 2 settled for linguine which was dry and overcooked and 2 of us had fishcakes as a main course which were ok. We did not book a table until the Wed before and could have had one at another restaurant at 9.30 but we thought too late! we should have just gone with that.. Will not be back in a hurry to be honest, which is a shame since had high hopes.."
    dined on 30/11/2013
  • "Wighams Wine Cellars in Hope St Edinburgh is a great spot. Its in the cellar as all good wine bars are so look out for the steps and get on down. Fantastic selection of wines by the glass at very good prices. All beers and spirits also available. Catcht he jazz band if you can they are great."
    dined on 19/10/2013
  • "We had an early dinner. Cullen skink was ok - we both thought it was a bit heavy on the corn flour. Main course of lobster and fish pie. Lobster was ok nothing to be raved over. Fish pie was served luke warm and I asked that it be reheated. It came back like it came out of a furnace. Biscuits and cheese was the best part of the meal. (1 portion). Coffee non descript. Wine we requested wasn't available. In the past I was a regular diner but this experience - our wedding anniversary was disappointing. I won't be rushing back."
    dined on 28/09/2013
  • "My 3 friends and I had an excellent dinner and really enjoyed the light jazz after our meal. A great experience."
    dined on 22/09/2013
  • "Good fish restaurant (with non fish options) offering good value and a great wine list. Went for business lunchand would go back with friends."
    dined on 20/09/2013
  • "I met my three friends for a bit to eat on Friday - great atmosphere with a good buzz for drinks and food. Food, service top class. I would recommend Whighams for any occasion."
    dined on 13/09/2013
  • "As we had friends from Dundee and Paris meeting up for a meal in town, we chose Whigham's and were pleasantly surprised with the service and the food. The ambience was lovely, my lobster salad with fries was delicious, if a bit small! My husband and grandson had the chicken stuffed with haggis which was equally nice. The other guests had the same main course and everyone enjoyed it. The wine list was impressive, and the waiter suggested which one would go best with seafood or chicken. The puddings were very tasty and with coffee to finish and then to sit back and enjoy the Jazz for the rest of the e e ing was just perfect."
    dined on 25/08/2013
  • "Very handy for our Book Festival event. Round table for six made for jolly setting. Prompt attention, timely service and choice of starters and mains within pre 7pm menu. Ideal meeting- with -eating venue."
    dined on 14/08/2013
  • "We had dinner at Whighams for the first time and found the food, service and ambiance all excellent. We shall go again."
    dined on 10/08/2013
  • "The bar area has a great vibe to it, whereas in the eatery, it was a little stale. We had booked a late table to fit with our travel arrangements, and I don't know whether or not that contributed to our experience. The service was very good, the waitress was very attentive, but we were seriously let down by the food. My wife and I ordered the seafood platter followed by a couple of salads, all of which were well below the standard we were expecting. We paid before finishing and left to get burgers and beer at the festival. If I was to go back to Whighams, I'll be sticking to the drinks."
    dined on 09/08/2013
  • "Wigams was booked for a birthday celebration, staff, food and music all went together to make it a lovely night. :-)"
    dined on 28/07/2013
  • "First visit Although we have recently moved to Edinburgh we hadn't visited Whighams Wine Cellar. Friends visiting from Yorkshire took us and we had an absolutely delicious meal. All the food was freshly cooked - we all had fish in various forms - fish platter, fishcakes and fresh tuna and none of it could be faulted. Service was perfect and the actually restaurant is fascinating. It's definitely gone on our list of places to visit again."
    dined on 28/06/2013
  • "I do go to Whighams fairly often when in Edinburgh. It's west end location make it an excellent rendezvous point. The standard never alters....pleasant, comfortable surroundings, friendl, efficient,y but unobtrusive staff, very good food at very reasonable prices. What more could you want? It's not Heston Blumenthal, or cutting edge interior décor-ed, but it is a hardy perennial of the hospitality industry and I hope it never does alter!"
    dined on 12/06/2013
  • "Used this bar/restaurant before for a long lunch with friends. Friendly, attentive staff, food average/good ... Always book, but never a need to as has always been empty. Unfortunately this time having met at 2.30 at 5.30 we were told the table was "needed" at 6 despite the restaurant being virtually empty ... 4 x 50 something ladies who all had two courses, several drinks and coffee need time to blether. Probs wont go back :-("
    dined on 02/06/2013
  • "We were extremely disappointed with lunch at Whighams. We've been there many times but tasteless crab and avocado pate and dry fishcakes were not appetising. My pasta dish was moderate. We had a Chinese friend from Singapore with us and were ashamed to be giving her such a mediocre lunch. We have been disappointed before when my brother was served with grey coloured overcooked beef. Time they got a new chef.We won't be back till they do."
