Excellent value - I was expecting a continental type breakfast for this cost: but it was a full english. Our visit was a birthday celebration and we spent most of the day in the gardens - lunch was lovely. Plenty of stuff to occupy my 6 year old grandson.... staff extremely friendly and cheery.

This is a lovely warm, cosy and welcoming pub; a great location for walkers and cyclists. It has a nice friendly, relaxed and informal atmosphere where nothing was too much trouble. The menu offers great choice for all and all our food was cooked to perfection. The service was faultless and staff very attentive. The prices are very reasonable of both food an drinks. Overall, would recommend.

We visited for a family Sunday lunch, five of us in all. Food was good as usual but the wait to place orders was too long. We are not impressed with meals served on bread boards or chips in tin cans, there's nothing wrong with plates! Good value and although the staff were under pressure, they were pleasant at all times.

Food was as advertised. Good Steak and Ale pie, although slightly small. Veggie crumble better than some in our group have experienced elsewhere. Good range of real ale, good range of sweets. The team didn't mind when we changed tables three times. Some nice views, we have picked our table for next time. Facilities for younger diners looked good as well although we had none with us. Would go back for more.

Table was booked for 5.30 on a bank holiday Sunday. Plenty of tables free but not enough staff to deal with the number of diners. Only 2 staff taking food and drink orders causing a long queue even just for drinks. Starters arrived quickly and were nice but nearly an hour later we still had no main course which was a long wait for my 7 year old who had not had a starter! We had to ask for the main course and did receive an apology. The steaks had been served the wrong way round and one was cold but we couldn't face sending it back. The other two mains were ok. Had to ask again for child's ice cream which was part of a 'deal' but it was half melted. Needed more bar staff and waiters to deliver food to large outside seating area.

Was not as remembered, and although all seemed the same, there were fewer staff on the bar so had to queue for every thing, and although we did not wait too long for food to arrive, when it did it was cold and it looked as if it had been cooked for some time and then reheted. Shame because it was a nice menu and vegetables served different to what is the norm.

Booked a table here on a recommendation but it was awful. We were seated at the back of the pub even when the pub was empty and it was like being in no mans land. We then ordered food. Even though there were by now about four people in the restaurant it took 30 mins for a starter to arrive. We then waited and waited and waited for our main meal. After another half an hour I went to see what was happening only to be told that if I was on table 39 the chef had broken the burger and there was a delay. We would have had no problem with this if a bit of courtesy had been shown and we had been told about the problem, but were not impressed with no communication ! The pub itself has wonderful views from the garden

The ambiance was poor. The seating was rustic, but would benefit from a few cushions or padded seats. Staff were not attentive and appeared disinterested even though they were not particularly busy. Food was okay, but not outstanding. It would have been helpful to have a form /pen to write your food orders on when there is a large group. I will probably not bother to eat there again in the future.

There was only 1 person serving drinks and a very big queue. We waited around 15 minutes to be served for drinks and then go our table. There was a sign up stating 45 minute wait for food. We didn't mind this to be honest. The menu looked great however When we went to order, the member of staff explained what they had ran out of. There were around 12 meals we could not have. We then held up the queue because we could not decide what to have as our first and second choices were all gone. Mine was very small so I had to order a side of chips as the only option it came with was rice which I did not want. Once ordered we waited longer than 45 minutes for our food. My friend enjoyed her food where as mine wasn't as great.

Wet & dull Feb Sunday. Good welcome, warm friendly feel with nice fire burning. Service prompt & helpful. Good size portions of veg, meat(beef) not v tender. Roast pot very dry and not enough gravy (more brought on request). Puddings much better but he St. Clements pudding very dry, maybe over re-heated. We would go again as its a nice pub in a great position and a large menu to try other things.

The pub itself is beautiful inside and has a nice feel to it. The setting the pub is in is breathtaking. The menu provides a good selection of food and has a good children's menu, it a shame that the food didn't live up to the way it sounded on the menu. I had their 'award winning' steak and tanglefoot ale pie of which the pastry was stodgy and un-crisp, the mash potato it came with tasted a bit like artificial powdered mash and there was a very small dribbling of gravy which certainly wasn't enough. My daughter had the children's sausages, mash and beans. As soon as the plate arrived at the table I took one look at the baked beans and thought they look disgusting, almost like they had been sitting somewhere for a very long time! Not good

We had a very disappointing experience when we came with our family for an evening meal at end of August 2012 whilst on holiday on the IOW. We had been told that this was a great place to eat and child friendly as well, however this proved to be wrong on both counts. The children’s outdoor play areas were closed, all cask beers were not available and staff were arguing with customers on services available when we arrived. Food and service were ok but other failings led to a very poor experience and one we will not be repeating. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

We booked here before travelling to the Isle of Wight expecting it would be really busy on a Saturday evening. To our surprise we were one of a few tables. We all ordered the fish and chips and sharing starters. Personally I felt the starters were a little on the small side for sharing, especially as they were very moreish! The fish and chips made up for this as it was huge! Children's dinner was also a nice size. Very nice meal! Next time I'll be more adventurous and try the Moroccan vegetarian meal. Only let down down was the indoor children's play area closed at 4pm. There was still an outdoor play area but this would be useless if the weather was bad.

Very disappointing visit to what I had high expectations of a dining experience to end off a day trip to Isle of Wight. Service very slow took nearly 45 minutes for main course to arrive. Young staff not suitably supervised. One tried to remove my half finished starter!! Quality of food was just ok...I am convinced food had been left under hot lamp and forgotten...peas were luke warm on two servings. My wife had fish cakes that made no mention of containing cheese...though in fairness this was mentioned by efficient bar server when order placed. Overall...disappointment ...should have gone for alternative at Ventnor Spyglass Inn...will do next time.

4 Roasts and child's burger and chips. Meals delivered in less than 10 minutes however the meals with the exception of the burger were LUKE WARM. Staff very apologetic and no problems with organising replacements, however when these were delivered the meat was cut so thick it was almost steak and a mix of overdone and medium rare! The burger was dry around the outer edges but was judged "tasty" when this was cut off. On the plus side vegetables were plentiful and well presented.

I have eaten here a few times before and the layout and décor gives it a really cosy feel and it never feels overcrowded. Unfortunately the experience this time was not a positive one where the food had to be sent back as undercooked, puddings forgotten and not an apology in sight. Maybe this was a one off bad experience but I don't think I will be returning to this pub for food again.

One takes a chance when describing anything as 'perfectly cooked' and the roast beef, described thus, wasn't - worse, it was tough and the establishment had no horseradish - surely that's verging on criminal? The children's food was better, and decent value. However, ordering was close to tortuous so we won't be back - shame, as we had high hopes.

I had been looking forward to the Sunday roast as advertised at The Wight Mouse, Chale, Isle of Wight, as I walked along the coastal path. Unfortunately I was told that they'd run out of roast dinners by 7pm and neither the adverised beef or pork was available. This was most disappointing. The portion of ribs I ate instead was very tasty. My partner's choice of steak and ale pie was a winner and he thoroughly enjoyed it.

One meal came a lot later than the others, and was stone cold when it arrived? Had to be returned. We'd finished, he still had to eat. Five meals, none above 'average', two very poor. Been before, many times, and enjoyed it. They 've really let things slip. Maybe we caught them on a bad night?
