Diner Reviews
  • "I took my parents here for Good Friday, wasn't looking for anything too stuffy just good food with a buzzing atmosphere and we got everything we hoped for. The staff were extremely attentive and friendly and the food was fantastic - the special of the sole with broad beans was the best of the night. Shame they had run out of mussels - that can be forgiven though as it was Good Friday. The only downpoint was that the restaurant was extremely hot, the chefs are cooking in a very cosy space - so take layers that are easy to take off! "

  • "I think Wright Brothers Borough is an exceptional experience especially on market days. So rustic and at the same time so refined! I love its traditional oyster-bar atmosphere, not to speak of the oysters and the delicious seafood it offers. Very romantic, after the outside crowds,"

  • "Great seafood in a lovely setting. The food was great as were the wine choices. Don't go if you don't like seafood as there is nothing else on the menu, which was not a problem for us. Oysters are their speciality, we tried a mixed 6 which came with vinigrette dressing. Starters we had were from the specials board - clams in fino and wild garlic (delicious), harrisa grilled makerel (lovey) and for mains we both had the roast pollock (devine). Lively atmosphere and great service. I suggest that you go with either 2 or 8 as most people sit around the bar which is great for 2 and then they have 2 big tables which you need to share if you don't have 8. You need to book - they were turning people away at around 7pm on friday night"

  • "Food was great but service patchy this visit - not normally like that!"

  • "This is the third time i have been to this place and it was just as amazing as when I first discovered it. The Grand Fruit De Mer is to die for and with the ambience taking you as close to the oyster shucking shores as possible, This Central London Seafood paradise is still my favourite haunt on the south side of the river. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Having eaten at this restaurant many times at lunchtime and enjoyed it, I found the reservation for my husband and I, for Saturday night a little disappointing. Instead of being seated at the bar or tables, that have bar stalls or chairs of equal height to the bar stalls, we were on a small oval table in the main walk way with the till just behind us. In fact the booking before had to be asked to move and the table cleared before we could be seated. If we were to book again we would state that we did not want to be seated at that table but on the main high seating area of the restaurant."

  • "This is one of my favourite restaurants ever!! The food and ambiance is exceptional. The staff are brilliant and really well trained and informative. They are more than happy to help with your wine and food selections. It is my restaurant of choice when in London."

  • "Very busy, homely small restaurant with very friendly staff. Not cheap but very tasty, fresh and worth paying a little extra, even at central london prices."

  • "Our 2nd Visit to this fantastic restaurant. Once again we where not disappointed and our guests where suitably impressed. Very knowledgeable staff a fantastic fresh menu. A joy to behold."

  • "Oysters, crab, and plaice were all very tasty and well cooked, sides and dessert were good, too. We felt a little rushed out from 9:30pm on Sunday even though the restaurant is advertised as open until 10pm. A number of seats are at the bar which isn't great for dates but is good for discussing the food with the staff."

  • "Excellent food and ambience. Wine suggested by waitress was excellent"

  • "We took our daughter for an early dinner mid week, we had a pint if prawns as a shared starter, three mains and a bottle of wine for £140. Apart from the lack of value, the real issue was the specials had all run out and it was only 6pm. Yes the service is good, yes the food we had was good but really it's a place for business drinking... A pint of Guinness and oysters, where someone else is paying."

  • "The food met the usual high standards, great atmosphere and helpful staff (behind the counter!). The 2 hour rule was a little too strictly applied and in a somewhat rude manner."

  • "Wonderful food and atmosphere as always at Wright Brothers. Its not cheap, but its worth it to go as a treat every now and then."

  • "Enjoyed a great business lunch at Wrights - roast hake cooked to perfection, excellent service, wine and ambience. Espresso martini's also recommended. Will be back."

  • "Four of us visited on Friday 28th Feb and had a great time. We all enjoyed the ambience and three of us enjoyed the specials but the Fruits De Mer was poor (£39.00). All of us said we would visit again but not have this dish. As this one was the Grand one wonders what the Petit is going to be like."
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "As usual, a good selection of oysters. Delicious. Tasty and reliable menu with some tasty specials. The razor clams were excellent. We watched the whitebait being cooked, so no surprise that they were hot, crisp and fabulous."
    dined on 25/02/2014
  • "We have been to Wright Brothers a few times and I is always excellent for Oysters and Fruit de Mere. Only slight draw back on this occasion was that we were seated at the bar directly opposite the the gas range. No problem with watching the chefs do their thing. But the heat coming off the range made short work of the ice that our platter of shell fish came on. Resulting in us scooping prawns, whelks and mussels out of chilled water bath!! Will go back again but will also be clear on where we want to be seated."

  • "Having visited this restaurant for lunch with colleagues many times before and been happy with the experience, I decided to take my wife for an evening meal to celebrate an anniversary. Our visit however wasn't memorable. The food was generally of a poor quality, particularly the mussels and the service was very rushed. We had the seats for two hours but were through our mains within 30 minutes. A real shame as past visits have always been worthwhile."

  • "Love the bustle in this place. The fact everyone is packed in like sardines is great because it means there's no room for over zealous waiting staff or delicate table manners. Just eat, drink, talk as loud as you like and revel in the delicious fresh sea food and fantastic wine - the oysters were some of the best I've tasted and the Chablis was delicious. We were sat at a bar overlooking the kitchen and the chef was happy to chat with us and even offered some freebies to try. Will definitely be going back when I want good food and fun."

  • "That was a good way to judge a restaurant in the days before everyone appointed themself a critic. The fish pie arrived and looked disappointingly small. But this was the Tardis of fish pies. Interesting , delicious and filling, so really nothing like the Tardis at all. Oysters in a variety of ways - liked the Japanese, Wasabi is a change to lashings of Tobasco. The offspring complained about runny Creme Brulee, but I quite like it that way. Glad I gave away some of my Chocolate Truffles, perhaps I am getting to old for such richness late in the day. A bit on the cramped side, but that's fun if you have a pretty girl next to you. Noisy, but that's the proximity of the kitchen or the table of cackling Oriental girls. Service - courteous."

  • "Returned to Wright Brothers a year after our first visit and coincidentally sat in the very same seats as before. Kicked-off with the fruit de mer as we did last time (we're obviously creatures of habit) and it was as fresh as we remembered. We were slightly concerned that the recent bad whether may have affected the catch and therefore the options available but our fears were unfounded. My wife then went for the sea food pie while I went for the whole crab. Both were beautiful. Only slight complaint was the white wine wasn't as cold as we would have liked but the staff did all they could to cool it as quickly as possible with copious amounts of ice in the ice bucket. Nevertheless, a colder bottle to start would have been better."

  • "I always enjoy eating here. Service is friendly and atmosphere buzzy. They can often find a spot for you at the last minute. This time we were seated at the bar - which was odd as they had many free tables. I have to say that prices are toppy. But thats Borough for you. Oysters are unfailingly lovely. My favourite razor fish were off the menu this time and I found it hard to find something else that I wanted to eat without having a big main."

  • "Met by one member of staff who was a "jobs worth" and wouldn't let us have a high backed chair instead of a stool for one of our party (who suffers with back problems) and the rest of the evenings service was rushed and designed to get us through as soon as possible"

  • "A great night out, even on a Monday night this place was full and buzzy. Oysters were fantastic and the staff really knowledgable about all the different kinds available. We felt very looked after by lovely staff who were keen to help. Thank you!"

  • "The menu is very confusing- not clear which foods are starters and mains. Good food but not worth the price you pay."

  • "We love seafood and we like gastropub like bars. This is the great mix of both. Very laid back, nice for drinks and great service. The food is absolutely amazing. The atmoshphere is very relaxed, but it is clear that they make a huge effort to make the place look effortless. The interior looks bold and cosy. It feels very local. Nice crew, great wines. Would definately go again and recommend this place."

  • "I had a dozen EXCELLENT oysters, 1 mixed salad that I waited 35 minutes for and had to ask after twice, and 1 Kernel beer (330ml) and got out the door for £50. Yes, FIFTY QUID. The food was outstanding, but the price put me off. I'm planning a trip to Whitstable to satisfy my next craving for oysters. It should cost about the same. But, if you're craving oysters and willing to spend the money then this is a good option."

  • "Great service, very festive fun atmosphere. As a global oyster eater, I was most excited here. Food was terrific and people were VERY friendly. I have to say, though, the oysters, while extremely fresh, were VERY expensive and the different types we tried all tasted VERY similar. Entrees were good, though not "off the charts". I was VERY happy with the overall experience, but it was a bit pricey for what you get."

  • "This remains on of the best restaurants in London."
