21's food is big on flavour, short on fussiness. Fresh, seasonal ingredients are treated with flair and passion. classic bistro dishes, a little comfort food and still room for pudding. 21 is famous for welcoming guests with excellent value and warm hospitality.
Everything was great, except I was surprised and disappointed to have to wait for about 25 minutes from sitting down to receive our pre-dinner drinks, which made me grumpy with our poor charming waiter.
We went after the football match as we wanted to find a venue that served excellent food but also was value for money
We had the early evening menu which fitted the bill completely
We all enjoyed the meal and would definitely return 😃😃
The first table in what is normally the private room is subject to a drought when both outside doors are open. Its the only thing to spoil the evening.
Welcomed and given the choice to go to the table or sit and look at the menu in the bar. Chose the early evening menu and had a fantastic three course vegetarian meal. Exemplary service, discreet and quiet dining at that time of the evening.
Excellent service in quality surroundings. Could probably do with updating the vegetarian menu choice.
This is an outstanding restaurant. I have visited it three times now when in Newcastle working and on each occasion the food has been first class. Last night I had Fish Soup. I have been lucky enough to have eaten Fish Soup made by Keith Floyd and Rick Stein amidst hundreds of others, the former being the best I have tasted until last night when 21 matched it. I has Roast Partidge to follow. Perfectly cooked with divine mashed potato. I will be back.
Outstanding as always! Thank you!
Good greeting and attentive service. Prawn starter lacked finesse, steak meal let down by poor 'home cooked' chips. Just overcooked outsides and mush inside... and they cost extra. Steak was cooked satisfactorily but not a particularly food cut. Chocolate sweet well presented but no subtlety and not memorable to eat. In short, although service standards are generally fairly the food fell short of expectation. Overall this does not represent good value for the fairly toppy prices and service charge. We have been regular customers for several years and losing faith in 21 at present.
Another good night, and great food. The fish was fabulous, and the braised beef superb accompanied by a lovely bottle of Chablis
Superb once again, we dine here a lot and have never been let down by the food and service.
Early sitting and still a great atmosphere. Plenty of occupied tables when we arrived at 630pm. Super evening celebrating our daughters 19th birthday. Great menu, food served beautifully and extremely tasty. I would highly recommend.
Early evening menu excellent quality and value. A great place to have a conversation and be able to dress up for .
The place is lovely with a calm welcoming atmosphere. We had the pre-theatre menu which was top notch and great value for money.
Lovely food lovely ambience great service our first visit but we will be back
Food lovely as usual, only complaint I had was that we were sat at a table beside the window and there was a terrible draught, had to ask a waiter to bring me my scarf from the cloakroom it was very cold and frankly I declined a pudding just wanted to get home to get warm.
Brilliant Simply brilliant
Best Bistro in Town Always 100% reliable
Food Great Service Great wine great
As ever 21 was up to the mark. My only disappointment was the Pork that was served to my Wife (Sunday lunch). She said it was extremely fatty . I know pork can be sometimes but that was a bit too fatty.
Lovely lunch in relaxed surroundings. Always lives up to our expections.
The early bird menu was a little limited - as we particularly realised when we saw the other options for dessert! But the food we had was lovely, the service was great and it's a nice ambience. Would definitely go again.
Our party enjoyed every aspect of our evening enormously. We could have chosen any items on the menu and will certainly be back.
Amazing food and service as usual!
As always just right. Perfect Sunday lunch, excellent house red to accompany
We were a party of five including one vegetarian. The a la carte menu provided ample choice and the supplementary vegetarian menu was a thoughtful addition. The quality and presentation of the food were excellent and the wine list provided a good range at moderate prices. Altogether a thoroughly enjoyable evening, thank you.
I booked this restaurant for my sons birthday and it was perfect from the very warm greeting when we entered to when we left, the food was amazing, even my grandsons 13 years and 12 years tried the adult menu and just loved it ,even for them the choice was perfect,
All though there was a children's menu on offer they wanted to try something different and were not disappointed.
I have to thank all the staff for making my son (big) birthday special.
Eaten there many times, the food, wines and service are all great.
Quality of the food was good and represented good value for money, drinks though seemed unnecessarily expensive. The restaurant lacks atmosphere and character which detracts from the experience as a whole. Service was adequate but queries about the menu were met with poorly informed responses. Overall, the quality of the food, the key factor is good enough to justify future visits.
Great meal with friendly service on a busy Saturday night. The cheese souffle was fantastic.
Great Service and excellent food. It’s what a good night out is all about
Celebrated our wedding anniversary at 21 the food, service and atmosphere were all superb as always.
Good food and really pleased there is a Vegetarian / Vegan menu
First visit and it was a lovely experience. Very welcoming on arrival and and friendly on exit. A great experience. Thank you.
Cafe 21 is without doubt the best restaurant in Newcastle in our opinion, we have never had a bad meal and the service is always excellent.
What can I say, as usual everything perfect from food to service. Early evening menu is a hit for us.
Service and food were of very high quality. I had the roasted scallops and there was a large amount of sea-salt on my plate, some of which I ate by mistake in the low light. This somewhat spoiled the otherwise lovely starter!
We felt that the food, while well presented, salmon and skate although they had garnishing of some vegetables , there was insufficient to make satisfying dishes. The extra cost of a small dish of greens we felt was unjustified. One pudding of pear belle hellene was not quite ripe.
We were there early and sat in smaller room to left of bar. Service, efficient, discreet and not pushy. Food very good though gnocchi not that exciting.
Visited for dinner last night (Friday) and the restaurant was busy with a good atmosphere. Starters were excellent - cured monkfish and a lobster pasta. We had the Côte de Boeuf 950g Rib Eye on the Bone (for 2 persons) for the main and it was very disappointing. 50% fat and gristle. We ordered medium rare and it came blue. For a £75 steak it was just not good enough (£68 +10% service charge). Asked the waiter for horseradish and he forgot - when we got the attention of another waitress, they had none in the restaurant. Service was just terrible - we had to ask for everything - orders to be taken, wine glasses to drink our wine etc. We will never go back. Service charge is added to all bills - we paid rather than start a conversation on how poor it was.
Lovely restaurant with attentive staff. Food of a good standard however perhaps slightly expensive
The wine we felt was overpriced
Lovely restaurant, good food, good service, would definitely recommend
