21's food is big on flavour, short on fussiness. Fresh, seasonal ingredients are treated with flair and passion. classic bistro dishes, a little comfort food and still room for pudding. 21 is famous for welcoming guests with excellent value and warm hospitality.
Great meal with friendly service on a busy Saturday night. The cheese souffle was fantastic.
Celebrated our wedding anniversary at 21 the food, service and atmosphere were all superb as always.
Good food and really pleased there is a Vegetarian / Vegan menu
First visit and it was a lovely experience. Very welcoming on arrival and and friendly on exit. A great experience. Thank you.
Cafe 21 is without doubt the best restaurant in Newcastle in our opinion, we have never had a bad meal and the service is always excellent.
What can I say, as usual everything perfect from food to service. Early evening menu is a hit for us.
Service and food were of very high quality. I had the roasted scallops and there was a large amount of sea-salt on my plate, some of which I ate by mistake in the low light. This somewhat spoiled the otherwise lovely starter!
We felt that the food, while well presented, salmon and skate although they had garnishing of some vegetables , there was insufficient to make satisfying dishes. The extra cost of a small dish of greens we felt was unjustified. One pudding of pear belle hellene was not quite ripe.
We were there early and sat in smaller room to left of bar. Service, efficient, discreet and not pushy. Food very good though gnocchi not that exciting.
Visited for dinner last night (Friday) and the restaurant was busy with a good atmosphere. Starters were excellent - cured monkfish and a lobster pasta. We had the Côte de Boeuf 950g Rib Eye on the Bone (for 2 persons) for the main and it was very disappointing. 50% fat and gristle. We ordered medium rare and it came blue. For a £75 steak it was just not good enough (£68 +10% service charge). Asked the waiter for horseradish and he forgot - when we got the attention of another waitress, they had none in the restaurant. Service was just terrible - we had to ask for everything - orders to be taken, wine glasses to drink our wine etc. We will never go back. Service charge is added to all bills - we paid rather than start a conversation on how poor it was.
Lovely restaurant with attentive staff. Food of a good standard however perhaps slightly expensive
The wine we felt was overpriced
Excellent early evening menu - not a massive choice but everything I had was delicious & two superb wines which were very enjoyable. I’d strongly recommend this place (but got rather noisy on a Friday night)
Lovely restaurant, good food, good service, would definitely recommend
Lovely food great ambience and good service. My favourite restaurant. Consistently good
Love this place, food of a reliable high standard, as are the other 21 group restaurants and pub, and a very comfortable relaxing vibe.
Staff very welcoming and friendly. Very quick service and food was cooked beautifully.
I had to chose a replacement starter as they’ve ran out of my first choice. This is 7:45pm on a Saturday night! Ran out of dishes? What are they playing at?
Overpriced, portion sizes tiny, have been dining there for years and was disappointed
Very nice and reasonably priced for what it is...I’d come back
On app was given option to say what was occasion which I stated was for birthday. No mention at all made about birthday so don’t see point of actually asking the question?
sunday lunch was very busy and it took al ong time to be served, Other than that it was excellent.
We went in for Sunday lunch before going to see Stephen Fry at the Sage. I think we'll definitely be going again. The food was spot on, as was the service.
The restaurant was very busy but we still received amazing food from friendly efficient staff. Never disappointed.
A simply superb night with excellent staff, great ambience and outstanding food! One of Newcastle’s true gems!
Thanks for making my daughter's 21st birthday so specilal! :-)
Fabulous meal, attended early and found restaurant slightly chilly- otherwise perfect evening
In my opinion, 21 is the best restaurant in Newcastle!
We are regulars at this restaurant and would recommend it to anyone. The front of house staff are charming and knowledgeable and make customers feel like honoured guests. The service is excellent. Cafe 21 is suitable for an everyday lunch/dinner ( the lunch and early evening menu is very good value) and for celebrating special occasions.
The food as ever did not disappoint : beautifully cooked, presented and flavours . We really like this restaurant but felt that staff wanted us out . ., we had booked the table for 8.30 and there were still diners there after we had left . There was a rush to get our meal preferences even before we had been offered drinks . Also we were looked after by 4 different servers . A bit of a shame as the bill was large for the 3 of us and we had brought a guest . Perhaps not shown at it best this evening . I think that the chef would have been disappointed .
What surprised me was how well 21 scores on review.
Food below average. Over cooked fish, over salted everything, dessert choice poor. Service poor except for the young lady who I think was from Greece.
There must better place in Newcastle. More proof if needed of the unreliable nature of internet review sites.
Always a great experience at 21. Superb. The food is always well prepared with a good choice on the menu. The same with the bar, a great selection of cocktails, spirits and wines. The service is professional and friendly.
A bit disappointed with the menu - were hoping for the Supper Menu but we were half an hour too early - might of been nice if they offered this anyway. Service however excellent - food was good but nothing special.
Fantastic food and wine. Great atmosphere. Always love coming to dine @ 21
Excellent. Consistently good love this restaurant
We had a fantastic evening and I can't wait to go back in October with a different group!
A great night! Delicious food, great service and delightful cocktails! I had loon of lamb with Mediterranean vegetables and a side order of mash followed by salted caramel and chocolate soufflé- what’s not to like! A Dao paired well with the lamb and the Kir Royale was perfect.
The food was really great, as usual, service was great! Our only issue was that the main course arrived quite quickly after the first course!
Fabulous menu, great choices, food was a dream,
For me, Starter of Beet Salad, small but more than enough, so tasty
Mains of Venison so tender, cooked to perfection
I went with a friend and can confirm there were no complaints there, I would rather she reviewed personally.
As always 21 is just a fabulous place for a meal. The menu choice is great and there is nothing negative I could say - the whole experience is always just superb !
Visited 21 to celebrate two special birthdays on a busy Sunday lunch time. I booked via OpenTable and asked for specifics to make the day extra special, I also followed this up in person with Jen. I was delighted to find that the champagne I'd requested, which 21 don't usually stock, was in place, on ice, on our arrival, as I had asked for and that our table was also as requested. The food, wine and cocktails were lovely, but the service made the day. Special regognition and thanks to Jen for pullng out the stops.
