Excellent food and service
Lovely food. Great service and excellent value for money.
Lovely meal we had main course only Duck and the Ribeye Steak , very nicely cooked and quality food
Great night good food good service and surroundings. This a good restaurant and has been for several years. Far better than Peace and loaf that was visited a few weeks ago yes a different menu but far better value for me but still an expensive evening.
Great for a special occasion
Love dining at cafe 21 always a pleasurable experience
Food and service excellent. We had deer and duck main courses, both a credit to the chefs. Servers were pleasant and quietly efficient
superb as always but I do miss the triple cooked chips!
Food was incredible, best steak in UK. Overall ambiance was great a great evening for all guests
Exquisite food, friendly & relaxed service, we have been going back for many years & will continue to celebrate our special days there.
First time - absolutely brilliant and fantastic food with excellent service. Will definitely be back
Lovely evening at 21. Attentive staff and fabulous food.
Staff were friendly and courteous and excellent quality food. Only niggle was we were given a dessert menu and then after a long period of time waiting staff had to be reminded to serve us. Otherwise would definitely recommend this restaurant
First time here for lunch using vouchers given as a Christmas gift. And we’ll definitely be back.
Quite a broad menu but we ended up taking the fixed price option. Flavours excellent and sufficient quantity - particularly as we checked out their desserts too and weren’t disappointed.
Superb food, service and ambiance. Always a pleasure to go.
Excellent food and attentive service. A special dinner, which fulfilled our expectations.
We did enjoy our evening, felt very safe, staff and patrons all most thoughtful and of course the usual delicious supper.
Excelllent 3 course fixed price menu with superb choices. Well trained staff who understand the high standards required in a leading restaurant. The North East is very fortunate to have such a culinary delight that is completely unpretentious, unlike some other establishments. Mr Laybourne is a master of his profession.
An excellent visit as indicated by the scores I have given. Food as usual was excellent, well presented and served by attentive and helpful staff
The place and service was good, however the food was very disappointing for the price we paid. Reviews were misleading, would not go again.
Lovely food and great service. The Sunday dinner was perfect
Food was delicious. I had the best steak I have ever tasted
Lovely evening, service was excellent by all of the staff and the food beautiful. We were there over 2 hours and didn’t feel rushed & a lovely touch to celebrate my partner’s birthday. Thank you.
Absolutely delicious food, especially the starter I had with Isle of Wight tomatoes, peaches and buffalo mozzarella, and the apricot and almond tart. Great service too. I hadn't realised that the fixed price menu is only available until 6.30 Mon-Sat, so worth being aware of that when you book. But the a la carte does have more choice. Would highly recommend.
Was informed by email that we would have a sinke table for our party of 9 people to celebrate a family 21st birthday. Turned up and we were split over two tables instead, against our wishes and against what we were told by email. Food was nice except for a very oversalted salad but luckily there was plenty of water in the jug. Third visit here, previous two were much better.
Great food as always. Best service, very attentive. Will be returning many more times.
The response is mainly in respect of the meal I had as my wife’s was very good. The issue I had was with the main course which was the sirloin steak. There was far too much gristle all the way through the steak. I really should have sent the steak back but I persevered with it in the hope that it would improve. At the end there was left quite a lot of steak which was inedible. I did indicate that the steak was not correct to the waitress but there was no apology from the kitchen. Everything else was fine but the steak made the meal a disappointment
The food was amazing! The cheese soufflé was the best I have ever tried!
Great food and service and nice little touch with a cake at the end of our meal for my wife's birthday
Anniversary dinner 2nd year running! Excellent food, service and the perfect amount of staff assistance and courtesy!
Always a great experience and value for a special occasion.
Compliments to the chef and staff!
Gary & Mary Cowey
Excellent as always but price of drinks and wine is eye watering compared to other restaurants.
Gorgeous meal. The fish was excellent. Enjoyed the lunchtime experience.
Great as always, never disappoints! Look forward my next visit.
Lovely staff and pleasant atmosphere. Starters very yummy but mains were underwhelming considering the price and expectations.
We had a great night and food was amazing - thankyou
Service was average, waitress was clearly annoyed when we asked for a while longer before ordering our food.
Chicken in the pie was awful.
Business meal with work colleagues, as always the food was absolutely fantastic!
We have eaten at 21 on many occasions although this was the first time since the onset of COVID. It remains one of our favourite restaurants and this latest visit did not disappoint. The food was excellent and service impeccable. The whole ambience was relaxed and there was no difficulty with the Covid rules as they currently stand.
The food was amazing, apparently it was a new menu from tonight so wasn't what we checked online but the curried duck was fantastic. Rice had toasted almonds and sultanas... Almonds were so tasty
Beware of the sultanas if you don't like them, sorry not in the pic.
Our favourite restaurant whenever we visit Newcastle….
