Sunday 12:00PM - 8:00PM
This was a great dining experience with really attentive, but discreet staff and delicious food. We ate from the early bird menu yet this did not feel any less well prepared and delivered than something from the main menu. Definitely the best food we’ve eaten all year from a restaurant. We left feeling like we thoroughly enjoyed the experience
Went for husband's birthday. It was a very busy night - this didn't affect the service which was v good but the noise level was so extreme I just wanted to cover my ears! Also was allocated a table on what formed a 'corridor' between the tables and the kitchen - so waiters rushing past every minute. We were so close to the next table we may as well have had a table for 4! It's a great restaurant and I will go back but not on a Saturday night - too manic!
Food was good, although my cheese selection was poor with wilted celery, brown grapes and a slice of cheddar which was a dried out end, otherwise great night out!
One of the best restaurants in Newcastle. Very good food and service. A little pricey and noisy.
My wife and two friends dined at Restaurant 21 early evening on Saturday. We all elected to choose from the early diners menu and we all were very impressed by the quality, quantity and value of our meals. The lamb main course was exceptional. We drank the house red wine which also was excellent. A special mention to our waitress Emily who was a credit to her restaurant. Helpful, attentive and a happy person! All in all an excellent experience - we will be back!
Lovely food, great atmosphere and good service. Watch out for the glass table outside the toilets-caught my leg on the corner.
Delicious food, waiting staff were really nice.
The restaurant & decor lovely also accessible disabled toilet.
Cannot fault it
A most enjoyable occasion, enhanced by the great starter(souffle) and pleasant, unobtrusive service. One minor grumble- the German wine was a bit overpriced!
Always delivers when you have a special occasion you want to celebrate with excellent food, great service and a really nice atmosphere.
We had a wonderful Early Evening Menu which was delicious, filling and great value @ £21 each.
Food at 21 is always fabulous. Loads of choice and fantastic quality. Early evening menu gives value for money too. All in all excellent
We had a very nice relaxed lunch with exquisite food at extremely good value lunch menu prices. Will be back!
Excellent service and the food looked and tasted fabulous
Disappointing compared to previous visits. Very noisy and not especially relaxing as a consequence. Had this experience before but figured would give it a go again as my husband likes it but I would rather not go and spend a la carte prices to find it's somewhat of a racket. Pity really as several years it wasn't like that. Wouldn't rush to go back for a special Saturday night as think there are others in the city better in the same price range. Strangely it's 20 years since we first went when it was 21 Queen St.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening at 21. The staff were attentive and the food was amazing. The wine and champagne offerings were fantastic with a wide and varied assortment on offer. A big thank you to the staff who presented us with a lovey special cake to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
Great food in a handy location for central Newcastle
Up to expectations regarding food and service. However, the espresso machine was not working, so there was no espresso coffee after dinner. I recommend always having a back-up for such occasions. Nevertheless, my first choice in Newcastle and Northumberland for wonderful food and good service!
We booked the early evening menu which gave us a good choice of dishes. The service was excellent ,the staff polite attentive but not intrusive and the food when served was of very good quality.
We enjoyed a very relaxed and happy evening.
I have dined at 21 many times, but this was our best meal. The Venison was amazing. Rose from Chile was pretty good too. The restaurant gradually got busier, and there was a nice atmosphere. Usually get a bit more attention from staff when we arrive, our welcome was lacking a little. Overall a good experience.
Great meal tonight. Brilliant attentive service from all the staff and gorgeous food as always. By far the best restaurant in Newcastle. Totally recommended. Five stars.
All round great place. Food, service and atmosphere. One of the best places to eat in Newcastle.
Sunday Lunch menu was outstanding value, roast beef main course was fantastic!
Very disappointed that we had to wait 40mins for our table without any apology and we only got our table then when I went and spoke to the manager and said we were disappointed to wait so long past our booked time. No drinks served , we went to the bar and got a drink. tables in the waiting area were dirty with spillage. It really took the edge off my birthday celebration, you know just a little care or apology would have made it all the better. Once seated , the service and food were excellent, the soufflé was outstanding as always. This is my very favourite restaurant, one I use for special nights, thats why I wrote the review in the hope someone reads it and notes the disappointment because the experience early on should to have occurred . Delays happen its how you handle them and the manager did not handle the delays which we and other bookings were having. Andy
I was quite disappointed with my experience at 21 if i'm honest. My boyfriend and I had booked a table for half past 8, we arrived about 5/10 mins early and had a drink at the bar, but our table was not ready for half 8, in fact we didn't get seated until about 10 to 9. Once we were seated and given menus I was shocked at how expensive the starters were!! It wasn't as if the starters even warranted the price, I think my boyfriend payed something like £15 for a some Foie Gras and 2 fried eggs. Then once our starters were cleared it took about 40 minutes for our mains to come which was ridiculous considering we hadn't ordered steaks well done or anything. We then had to ask the waitress where our food was, and it came out about 10 minutes later, at which point we realised they had forgotten about our side order of veg. I then had to call someone over again to ask for this, and when it finally came out there was no apology given or anything. In addition to this, our bottle of white wine that we had ordered was not chilled at all. To be fair to the restaurant, our main courses were beautifully cooked, I had the duck and my boyfriend had the lamb. However, unfortunately our experience was ruined by poor service, and I don't believe it is the best value for money. The food, starters in particular, were not good enough to warrant paying that price. Unfortunately, because of this, we will not be back.
Really great night out, lovely meal. Chips deserve a special mention.....they were amazing, spent half the night debating how they were cooked!!!!
I went for s nice dinner with my boyfriend to Newcastle looked nice but sat beside the door it was cold and had a hair in my meal
Fabulous early evening menu. We ordered dessert from the main menu although these were rather over-priced. Well worth a visit.
This is the best restaurant in Newcastle highly recommend
Fabulous as always the food was of an excellent quality. The staff are always helpful and pleasant.
This was our third choice from Michelin guide as the first two had been shut because of drug raids!!!! We were pleasantly surprised and thought the food exceeded our expectations and would be happy to go back again.
Absolutely brilliant birthday meal, food and service were outstanding, great atmosphere but at the same time possible to have a quiet conversation. Just wish it wasn't two hours away!
Excellent food and at table service, could not fault either. I arrived early to meet my business colleagues for an early lunch and whilst my reception was polite and professional it was neither warm nor welcoming.
A smile was all that was needed at reception.
Wonderful meal though.
Starter was very nice indeed. Main course very disappointing. Chateau briand was not hot. Sauce was watery and chips were extremely greasy.
Some Staff were disinterested and clumsy. Not at all the fine dining experience I know it to be normally.
I will be back but hope this was a one off.
I have been many times over the years and it is always a good experience, the food and the ambience with very attentive staff
Food was great only to be let down by the miserable looking staff, who you had to flag down to get some service on a quiet Sunday night.
My wife and I ate here on Saturday with 2 friends
Food and service fantastic as it always is
It was really busy so a bit noisier than we would have liked but we will definitely be going back again
It was just what we needed for a birthday meal before going to see a show. We were most struck by the friendly and attentive staff and really tasty food with a bit of a twist.
Perfect level of attention by staff with food that was to it's usual high standard.
The last time we ate at 21 it was a long time ago at Terrys former venue nearby. Good then but a complete WOW now in large buzzy stylish surroundings and a packed house.
The hand picked young staff were a delight. Our Waitress is training to be a lawyer and she will make a fine Barrister.
The food stuck brilliantly to its British principles crafted to perfection.
We were there on the evening of my Wife being sworn in as a Magistrate. Only one small niggle was that I requested during the online booking for two glasses of sparkly stuff but that didn't arrive.
But that my no means spoiled a wonderful occasion.
