What a disaster. So disappointed with our experience. The service was truly dreadful. The tea was served, 20 mins later we got the sandwiches which were very average and the tea had gone cold. We asked for water 4 times before we got any. They cleared the sandwiches, brought more tea then we had to wait over 49 mins for the cakes and only after asking them - they’d clearly forgotten about us. Of course the tea was cold by this point and had to be replaced. We were so fed up we left the cakes. They did acknowledge it was poor and gave us 50% off the bill but in a hotel of this standard it’s totally unacceptable. We’d booked this in September and were looking forward to it. In addition one of the toilets was totally blocked and spilling into the floor and the seats in the beautiful room were so low as to be uncomfortable. Not a patch on The Ritz of F&M. Booked at £49pp, charged £55pp! Watch out for the water charges too. £12 for water when we just had tap and had to beg for that!
I had a very nice after noon tea experience enjoying the excellent tea, the fine food and the peacefull atmosphere.
Fabulous afternoon in a beautiful room, with excellent food & service
Such a special atmosphere that is sadly lacking in so many hotels. Beautiful place creating many wonderful memories that guarantee you will go back.
Lovely festive afternoon tea
Have your afternoon tea in the most beautiful, gilded room and imagine you are in the company of Oscar Wilde and Bosie! This was a truly delightful tea with attentive staff who did all they could to make us happy and comfortable. The sandwiches, cakes and scones were all delicious and they were generous about asking if we wanted more. If you are happy to pay what is quite a lot of money....I would thoroughly recommend, especially in winter when you want to be cosy.
Had a lovely afternoon in beautiful surroundings with an excellent selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones. We just had the English breakfast tea and the earl grey, but drank lots because it was delicious. The pianist played a varied selection of music which added to the ambiance. Our waiter was not as attentive as on previous occasions but was kept busy with a large party on the table next to us who were also quite noisy. But all in all a most enjoyable experience.
Excellent food and service. Marcus was very helpful and friendly throughout our dinning experience. The place lives up to its name and afternoon ranking.
What a lovely atmosphere and the perfect afternoon tea. Martin and Zolic made the afternoon memorable with their excellent service. I will definitely visit again on my next trip to London.
Ambiente gewöhnungsbedürftig. Der „Spiegelsaal“ ist sehr laut. Service sehr freundlich. Essen gut.
Lovely venue, service was fantastic. A very enjoyable afternoon for Mum’s birthday.
Very friendly staff!
very fine food!
Very beautiful decor and also nice with the live piano.
The service was just excellent, such accommodating and pleasant staff. And a very beautiful dining room. We had a lovely time.
The senior staff were all excellent, and the tea itself of the first order. The service was very friendly, though the table waiter was perhaps a little inexperienced and rather inclined to make mistakes, despite a great show of enthusiasm. Overall, it was a delightful experience, and I would rate it among the best available in London.
Good service from Martin. A nice way to celebrate a birthday! Recommend it!
A very ornate room. I loved the amuse Bouche. Service was excellent. The pianist was excellent though a little loud in the room. An great place for afternoon tea.
This was out third visit and Afternoon Tea was as special as ever. The food was superb and the service excellent. We will be back next year.
For us the best Afternoon Tea we every had, highly recommended!
We booked a table for an Afternoon Tea to celebrate my birthday and it was indeed a great experience: delicious sandwiches, excellent warm and fresh scones with tasty clotted cream and jam and really good pastries, accompanied by an excellent piano-player and very attentive and helpful service in the prettiest room I've ever seen. We had a wonderful time and felt welcome from the first minute on - and we were really surprised as the waiter asked us if we'd like to have some more sandwiches or scones or pastries (for no extra costs). Furthermore I got a small birthday-cake with a candle on it from Hotel Café Royal while the piano-Player performed "Happy Birthday" - this was very special!
Classy, glamorous and historic Oscar Wilde bar is the perfect place to enjoy Afternoon Tea and here the Festive Tea with champagne and inspired by the French fragrance house Diptique, it can come with a candle too at £90 inc 1 glass of champagne and mini candle. Just perfect for a pre Xmas treat.
A lovely special occasion restaurant for afternoon tea particularly for Mothers to treat their daughters as it is so pretty - all golden carvings and big mirrors. A pianist played on a grand piano. Wonderful.
This was an amazing Christmas treat for myself and two friends. Well worth the money for the experience. Our waiter was particularly knowledgeable and attentive.
Atmosphere is amazing, place is outstanding, food is really good and service is excellent, a bit expensive for an afternoon tea but worth it.
Outstanding service, beautiful setting, incredible tea. Tasty food that was nicely presented and included vegan and gluten-free options, which we'd requested in advance and were checked by the waiter on arrival. Exactly the right amount of food. We were there for a 40th birthday and this was nicely recognised - special enough to make her feel a sense of occasion, but quietly done so that she didn't become the object of everyone's attention. Perfect.
I went to the Cafe Royal after an investiture at Buckingham Palace where I had been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire. I had booked for afternoon tea with the family guests who had accompanied me for the awarding of my honour. The Cafe Royal is a beautiful venue steeped in history. The food and drink was superb quality with staff who were the ultimate in offering a professional service. I would highly recommend this renowned establishment. If you are looking for a somewhere to enjoy the best afternoon tea experience in London this is the place to go. The whole day was a right Royal experience - well I am from up North and we say it as it is!
I was able to share this experience with a best friend of over 30 years who recently visited. It was a treat to catch up and have perfect service and tea!
A very lovely last minute choice. Great service and amazing selections.
we had a lovely afternoon tea for my husbands birthday the pianist played happy birthday and Martin our fab waiter brought chocolates on a plate with a candle and happy birthday written in chocolate. Martin and Zac our two waiters were great. The Cafe Royal was a good choice and we will definately go again when in London.
Rather quiet as we booked for 1:30 on Monday but picked up after 2pm as the place filled up and piano began. Service was excellent. We indulged in a second plater of sandwiches and found we couldn't finish all the cakes later. We had dressed smart though saw one in short sleeved polo shirt and another in jeans. 12.5% service added so we didn’t tip.
This was our 2nd visit this year and once again it didn’t disappoint. This is the most beautiful place to have afternoon tea. We had the festive menu which was lovely, lovely presentation, good service . Pianist played in the background which was a nice touch. We sat for an hour and a half and didn’t feel rushed to leave , which was nice. We visited at 2pm and it was reasonably quiet. The food was fresh and tasty, unfortunately we couldn’t manage to finish the cakes so they were beautifully packaged up for us to enjoy on our train journey home.
Amazing venue with festive theme, service was excellent with attention to detail in every way
Très bon accueil dans un endroit cosy. De bons conseils pour choisir les thés. Tout était excellent, très frais et délicat. Une très bonne expérience à tout point de vue.
What a wonderful experience our Afternoon Tea was in this gorgeous location, right in the heart of London. The sandwiches and pastries were delicious, accompanied by exotic tea blends , all served by attentive polite and informative staff. If you want a memorable eating experience, this is definitely a place to visit.
Beautiful room, nice food,
Chairs too low, uncomfortable
Price too high
Wunderfull location, friendly staff, it was an experience. Delicious little sandwiches and beautifully made cakes, we enjoyed it, also the different tea flavors and the champagne, it was worth it, you can even ask more sandwiches and cakes if you want but for us it was more than we could eat.
It was my wife's 70th birthday, and the afternoon tea fitted the occasion wonderfully!
a fabulous room for afternoon tea - the food was wonderful, a vast choice of teas and attentive and friendly waiting staff - loved it
Fantastic service and afternoon tea was fabulous! cakes and sandwiches tasted wonderful xx
A delightful venue for a special 60th birthday meeting with my family. Stunning room and superb service. Live piano music added to the atmosphere but it was easy to converse as tables are not too close together.
Service was excellent, great attention to detail, relaxed atmosphere beautiful setting. Would recommend
Perfect in all aspects for a birthday celebration afternoon tea.
