Beautiful afternoon tea in a beautiful room. It is definitely a memorable experience, but having booked a special offer using opentable, I really disliked having to tell the waiting staff that I had booked a special offer with free champagne, twice. They should know that If I've pre- booked. I booked as a treat and asked for a birthday to be marked at the table and another event for the second guest. Only three birthday was marked at the table with a candle and small chocolate. I was disappointed to hear they hadn't followed out the other request I made, again using opentable. I can't fault the food, ambience and decor, but the service disappointed me.
Ambiance realy lovely, but food is rather tasteless and boring. Sandwiches taste all the same, a lot of Bread, the filling you can hardly taste (except for chicken filling).
Scones are pretty good however!
Sweets are fine.
Fabulous afternoon. Beautiful food and great service. It’s such a magical place. A definite must do when in London. Will visit again next time we travel to London from Melbourne, Australia.
A lovely experience. The decor in the Oscar Wilde Grill Room is beautiful. The service and food was exceptional. An experience not to be missed. Thank you.
Modelina and Estelle showed my mother and I top class service. They both were very patient in explaining what we could expect that afternoon and provided wonderful recommendations for teas. The cherry on top, the birthday recognition. I highly recommend this experience for any and everyone in search of a fantastic and traditional London Hight Tea.
As a seasoned afternoon tea appreciator this experience was outstanding. Refined, unhurried & every attention to detail given. Special thanks to Medalena & Martin for their warm welcome & care. I cannot wait for my next visit.
Excellent service from start to finish. The booking was made for a family birthday and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience, the ambience of the room was perfect and i would like to especially praise Estelle who provided a very pleasant and professional service.
Martin and Magdalena took great care of us and we loved the experience . Sandwiches were delicious so were the cakes , even if we all had the feeling that cakes could have done with a bit of variety as the were tasty but all really really sweet . Definitely recommending this place
Lovely location, food plentiful, service attentive and the little birthday treat was a nice touch.
Would highly recommend for a special occasion.
There was a delay in serving the sandwiches and therefore we had to ask for the pots of tea that had been served about 20 minutes earlier to be replaced.
Also, we had believed that the costs were as stated on the website and on the booking however VAT was charged as an addition, this should have been made clearer.
The seating is too low for elderly or tall people.
Beautiful location and food amazing service by Martin, thank you!
Beautiful setting with a mouthwatering array of sweet and savoury delights. Service was exceptional and they let you take your leftovers home. The Jammy dodger as a little gift was a lovely touch. Such a great way to indulge yourself.
It was a special birthday celebration, and we have a wonderful tea. All of the sandwiches, cakes and pastries were delicious, and the extra touches of jelly and a biscuit to take home just added to the experience. I would definitely recommend!
The place is very beautiful, food and tea is delicious, highly recommend.
Simple perfect afternoon tea experience. Highly recommend. Room is opulent and food amazing. I’ve enjoyed many teas in London and this is a top 3 experience for sure.
The atmosphere was fantastic. Food was amazing. The live piano background was very impressive.
A truly wonderful experience. Only one minor fault that could be easily remedied - the seats/chairs are far too small with little leg allowance. Oscar Wilde himself would have refused to be seated in such uncomfortable chairs.
Nevertheless, I thoroughly recommend the Hotel Cafe Royal's Afternoon Tea.
This was my 2nd visited for afternoon tea. Excellent service from all the staff, but a special mention goes to our waiter Archie, who had an amazing amount of knowledge of what we were eating and why it was being served.
Very lovely room with such rice history behind it. Definitely will visit again!
A very good afternoon tea option! Cheaper than the Ritz level ones but still OTT enough. Service is fantastic!
Beautiful room, lovely decor and the pianist played most of the time we were there. Very good service and staff were helpful and friendly.
We had a really lovely time - someone bought us Afternoon Tea as a gift. We had not imagined how much we would enjoy the whole experience. Very much recommended.
Excellent service from Madalina and Zach. Lovely selection of teas and excellent attention to detail
Lovely tea with delicious food. It’s nice they offer seconds of the sandwiches. There’s plenty to eat. Only criticism - the piano player was terrible. Their piped in music even he took a break was much more enjoyable.
3rd time visited the Hotel Cafe Royal for afternoon tea. Excellent service with very good quality food. I would say the service was better than many other 5* hotel I have been. Very lovely room with such rice history behind it. Definitely will visit again!
The location is marvelous, and especially the room design with gold and mirrors all over is great.
We absolutely adored our afternoon tea at Hotel Café Royal!
The tea is held in the Oscar Wilde Salon which is a stunning room full of opulence and character and is a perfect match for the theme of 'The queen of afternoon teas'.
We were greeted and made to feel welcome upon arrival and once seated inside, staff were very friendly, attentive and full of knowledge about the different selections of teas and treats.
There is a wide and varied selection of teas, each with their own description on the menu. We had the Queen Victoria black tea, the Jade tips green and the rose and lychee noir. Each tea was as described and had wonderful, distinct flavour.
The Cheshire cheese and asparagus tart was absolutely to die for and came out along with the sandwiches. The sandwiches reflected the time and tastes of queen Victoria. They were beautifully put together and although not necessarily to our liking taste wise (I don't like raw salmon or cucumber), they were full of flavour and made with the freshest bread I've had in a long time!
The scones were still warm when brought out and cut beautifully with a knife. They were light, not stodgy and the accompanying cream, jam and lemon curd were so smooth and tasted like heaven. I wish I could have taken then lemon curd home with me!
The cakes and pastries were were beautifully crafted and full of wonderful flavour combinations. I particularly loved the rose, raspberry and lychee tart and the salted caramel choux.
Overall, our afternoon tea experience at Hotel Café Royal was exceptional and one we like to repeat in the near future!
We would like to give our sincerest thanks to everyone involved in our afternoon. The service and attention to detail was immaculate, including the little birthday chocolates, presented to my mum to the tune of happy birthday by the pianist.
We look forward to our next visit very soon!
Es war sehr schön. Man hat komplett Milchfrei Speisen für uns vorbereitet. Einmalig! Und die Auswahl war trotzdem groß.
Really nice atmosphere and great service - recommended!!
Service team was great. Food was all great tasting and the piano music was enjoyable.
We sought a special afternoon tea experience in London, but we were disappointed. The ambience was good, that of a Edwardian salon, but the chairs and tables are too low for comfort if you are average or greater height. The service was excellent with very charming and warm servers. But the sandwiches were dry and bready with very sparse fillings. The pastries were all cream based without enough variety of texture or any crispness. Very high prices with modest quality. Avoid
It is my second time having afternoon tea in Hotel Café Royal. The experience is excellent. Kind and professional staff, really nice food and lovely ambiance. I would strongly recommend anyone to come here if you want to have a traditional British afternoon tea.
Great experience. Service staff and food were both excellent. Highly recommend.
Madalina and Estelle, our servers, were very pleasant and fun. We enjoyed their hospitality very much.
Absolutely beautiful and amazing. Perfect service- would definitely recommend.
This was my first afternoon tea experience. Madalina and Estelle took excellent care. The location, ambiance l, service and experience made it memorable l
Fantastic service and food, and a birthday song for our friend was a lovely touch. Thank you
I took my elderly friend 92 years old for afternoon tea as a treat. We had lovely food service was very good and everything was explained very clearly to us. Our server who's name I apologise as I cannot remember his name was excellent. My only issue was with the chairs, both my friend and I found them very low. On the whole the experience was a good one. But the low chairs would not see us coming back which is unfortunate. My appreciation to all the staff who were excellent and very attentive.
Fantastic experience, great food and ambience perfect afternoon tea
absolutely loved this tea experience, would return and highly recommend
Surprise treat for my mother and mother-in-law.They were both overwhelmed with all aspects of this experience.Never felt rushed, nothing too much trouble and even left with a posh doggy bag! Would definitely recommend
