Lovely ambiance, amazing experience. Definetely a must-do when in London.
Beautiful surroundings in the Hotel Café Royal. The high-tea room is exceptional. Live piano music, the food is lovely and the service is great.
One downside; you need to be in & out in 2 hours (also when it isn't fully booked). Doggy bag for the leftovers. It felt a little strange to be asked to leave in about 15 minutes. Either inform your customers upfront or leave them to finish their high-tea at their own pace.
A wonderful experience, in the fabulous gilded Oscar Wilde room, we sat at David Bowie's favourite table and had a ball with delicious sandwiches and cakes, many inspired by Queen Victoria's tastes, champagne and live discreet piano music. They also offered extra portions and were even able to cater for my vegan son. What really made the difference, though, was the service: the two gentlemen who served us not only were knowledgeable about the historical setting and attentive but always had a smile on their face. A real asset to the restaurant.
It was absolutely fabulous and special, such diverse food and scrumptious cakes in a beautiful setting. The waiters were absolutely polite, helpful and experienced. The downside is 2 hour limit which is not really helpful for deaf people as we cannot communicate with food in our mouth. We were given only 15 min extra time which isn't enough really. Inspite of confirming we would have gluten free food, the first serving wasn't and it was by luck that I double checked. Although no big fuss was made, we also had the wrong menu on the table. It was a lovely gesture of them to bring a plate with two chocolates for my friend's birthday treat. The ladies WC could have been decorated better to match the grandeur of the room. It was appreciated to be able to take away cakes in a stylish and sturdy doggie bag.
The tea room is beautiful! The food (sandwiches/desserts) were delicious!! Estelle and Arthur provided exceptional service! Definitely worth going!
Fabulous tea in the Oscar Wilde Lounge! I couldn't have asked for a more fun experience for an afternoon. The waitstaff attended to our every need, and the tea was outstanding. Champagne and sandwiches were super fun, and the pastries were to die for. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a spacial way to spend their day.
Simply perfect. Took my hubby for his 50th birthday. EVERY member of staff was delightful and very welcoming. Ambience was beautiful. Building exquisite and food delicious. What more could you need
Our visit was amazing . Everything was perfect . Nothing was too much trouble . Food was delicious and the young ladies who served us were so lovely and very polite . We can’t wait to return . Thank you .
Thoroughly enjoyed it. A wonderful experience.
We were a party of 6 and we had a very plain eater amongst us. They were very accommodating of our request for different sandwiches. We will definitely return and will be recommending this luxurious afternoon tea to everyone.
Went for Afternoon Tea. While the room was really nice and the service tried, a very disappointing experience. The new afternoon tea menu was very plain. The tea sandwiches were tasteless and the tea was like stale dishwater. The scones were ok but very heavy. The desserts were the best thing about the service and actually were really, really good.
The staff were very knowledgeable and pleasant. I was by myself and I felt like they were more uncomfortable than I that I was sitting alone. I finally accepted a newspaper but would have been just as happy soaking in the ambience and relishing the experience! Certainly lovely!
Delicious food in a unique atmosphere, with a wonderful service from Estelle, definitely recommend it!
We were celebrating a birthday with friends. The room is exquisite, the service was friendly and efficient and our waiter Ziko was informed and efficient.
The only improvement I would suggest would be to cover the teapots to keep the tea warm or automatically offer fresh tea as china teapots do not keep the heat well and warm tea is not enjoyable.
A memorable afternoon in stunning surroundings. The restaurant is beautiful, the afternoon tea was amazing and we were looked after by Zico and Martins who were friendly, polite, professional, they added to the great experience. There is a great selection of teas (you get to choose 2 pots each), the sandwiches were delicious, the scones cream and jam were excellent and the cakes were a perfect end to a fine afternoon. I would definitely return and would recommend afternoon tea at Hotel Cafe Royal to anyone who wants to treat someone to a very special experience.
Nice afternoon but far too warm in there, needed to leave in the end as we were too hot and needed air. Would have been nice to enjoy a little longer. Sandwiches at cake were nice but for tea, a sandwich and cake costing over £130.00, you expect exceptional in all areas.
Nice experience but don't expect too much.
A wonderful experience just like every time. Excellent.
A brilliant venue for a special occasion, friendly helpful staff who made you feel relaxed and who gave you personal service whose aim was to ensure you enjoyed the experience. If you wanted extra sandwiches or cakes they on offer without having to ask. The pianist made the atmosphere feel intimate and ensured that your conversation did not disturb other customers. If there was a better tea than this I would love to know how it was achieved.
Absolutely delightful and decadent! It was a real treat.
Estelle our server was amazing; so nice, attentive and funny. Made for a wonderful experience.
It was an amazing expirience , the place is really beautiful and everything was as I expected . A pitty that I do not remember the name of our waiter , It was as an extra class of afternoon tea tradition and the history of the place, my kids enjoyed a lot with his explanations.
Our second visit. Wonderful place, perfect to celebrate any occasion. We had the champagne option for that extra special feel and it was made even more special by the birthday slate & chocolates as the pianist played happy birthday, a lovely touch. Food choice was excellent and explained in detail by very attentive and professional staff. Beautiful setting.
An amazing place, quiet with live music.
A great treat for my cousin who was celebrating his birthday.
Amazing sandwiches and great ambience for relax. Didn’t expect to be so gorgeous. The service is good. The waiter is really helpful
Perfect way to celebrate in beautiful surroundings. Caring and attentive staff, wonderful food and environment.
We had a wonderful time at the hotel cafe royal. The service was outstanding. It was the best afternoon tea I ever had!
Our waiter was very nice and after he asked from where we are, he learned how to say “thank you, have a nice evening” in German. He asked us to write his name in the review and I’d really like to do this but unfortunately I forgot it.
Tea was very nice with the usual selection of sandwiches, scones and pastries.
It would be nice to serve the scones as a separate course, to feel a little less rushed.
Afternoon tea was very good. Staff very efficient and attentive. I have been to a number of afternoon teas in London and I usually return if they have everything I look for. Relaxation, exceptional service, good variety of food and the added extras like a welcoming greeting at the door and friendly approachable staff. The sandwiches were good. If I was to have one minor criticism it would be that the bread could be more varied. I will return to the hotel. It was very good value for money.
A bit pricey but well worth it. Service was top notch. Food - excellent. My favorite was the chicken salad tea sandwich. The “cakes” were delicious. The place is absolutely beautiful.
The service front of house staff (2 lovely ladies) was excellent, they delivered the special request for a birthday and engagement plate scroll as requested. Zeecko our waiter was also very friendly and helpful.
Had a amasing experience first time I went but not so good this time
Not enough staff working so once seated we waited 35 minutes to be asked wether we wanted a drink and to be handed a menu .
I also found the staff quote rude this time round they could see we were trying to get there attention but we were ignored.
I was surprised to be honest as this was my 3rd visit and it wasn’t one to remember
Food was amasing as always but when your paying £200 all in for afternoon tea and drinks you expect the experience to be 10/10
I would go back as I do love the settings but I think management need to be more attentive during busy periods and see the situation from the customers point of view
Everything you would expect from a 5 star establishment x
Courteous polite informative staff x
Beautiful room x
Fantastic food x
The best patisseries I have ever tasted x
We were offered more sandwiches and tried several different teas x
They had no problem accommodating our dietary requests x
Fabulous x would recommend x
Very welcoming efficient friendly staff & delicious treats, loved the piano accompaniment. Really enjoyed ourselves.
We came here for an afternoon tea experience, celebrating my sister’s birthday. Overall, the experience was excellent. Our server, Zico, was attentive but not hovering too much. The sandwiches were delicious. I found that the desserts were a little too sweet for my taste. However, the scones, clotted cream, and jam were spot on. The ambience is wonderful, absolutely stunning old world decor. This is on the pricey side, especially with the champagne. This was our first and only tea, so it is hard for me to compare. However, as tourists, we highly enjoyed this experience.
This has become my go-to spot for high tea when I visit London because the prices are reasonable, the service is outstanding, the offerings are yummy, and, honestly, the location is quite convenient to my everyday activities while in London.
Excellent, very attentive service! Great place indeed
Setting, service and food were great. The extra thing is the jazz pianist playing during the tea.
Most attentive and seemingly happy staff. Nothing was too much for them , particularly Zachariah.
The afternoon tea was most enjoyable in wonderful surroundings although the chairs were rather low and uncomfortable.
Regardless, I would certainly return.
Excellent afternoon celebration of my husband’s birthday. Lovely staff who were meticulously correct , served delicious Bruce Cliquot champagne & great tea. Lovely visit but ladies downstairs loo needs attention & improved ventilation to improve the overall impression.
Decadent setting, cool ambience, wonderful selection of teas and interesting food ! Lovely treat.
Excellent service and food! The staff are very accommodating and explained the food in detail and took our dietary requirements into consideration. Will come back again!
