Afternoon Tea at The Lanesborough
Multiple winner of the UK Tea Council’s Award of Excellence, and served daily in the majestic, naturally-lit surroundings of the hotel’s Venetian michelin-starred dining room, Céleste, afternoon tea presents freshly-baked scones, thick, velvety clotted cream and home-made fruit preserves, served with all the beloved trimmings.
As the piano plays in the background, the hotel’s tea sommelier will be delighted to guide guests with their selection and introduce the expertly selected range of teas.

It was a huge disappointment because the whole CONCEPT OF ENGLISH AFTERNOON TEA got lost in the presentation ..... there was too much emphasis on fancy looking savouries and sweets.
English Tea must have proper traditional finger sandwiches followed by cakes. Since it was Xmas there should have been a slice of Xmas cake and a small mince pie and not little fancies full of cream which did not taste of anything. This was a bit like “ too many frills and no skirt”.
I am very sorry but please bring back the traditional Aftetnoon Tea .... let’s not loose the tradition. Thank you.
So disappointed with having no sandwiches at our afternoon tea. I had to send the scones back 3 times as under cooked
What an amazing classic afternoon tea experience. Highly recommend.
Friendly and warm staff. Attentive without being intrusive. Food was delicious and just the right amount. Beautiful tea room with a lovely ambience, it was busy but it didn’t feel overcrowded and we were not rushed at all. A minor issue that I notified to our server was very quickly addressed and we received a complimentary glass of champagne. A nice relaxing afternoon - would recommend, and will visit again!
60 birthday celebration
Excellent start to finish, as good as the Ritz without the same number of people - much more intimate and welcoming
It's not the same afternoon tea than before refurbishments.
It's not a real British afternoon tea with finger sandwiches, pastries and scones.
Now it's with Arabic recipes and I was very disappointed.
I wouldn't recommend to a friend and I wouldn't come back another time.
I have been several times to The Lanesborough for afternoon tea. The setting is beautiful with a pianist and a stunning room for afternoon tea. Whilst the atmosphere was excellent, I found the experience on this occasion to be quite disappointing. Service was fairly inattentive, with a requested high chair missing from the table and it took almost an hour for the first food to appear. When the food came we were disappointed that the selection of high tea sandwiches has now been replaced with a selection of canapés which are interesting, but not on par with what was offered previously. They have also cut down on the tea menu (in terms of the varieties of typical tea). I was also shocked that the tea was not replenished during the sitting, whereas the waitress was quite happy to ask if we needed to replenish champagne. Personally I think the changes made are for the worse and the quality of service needs to come back to where it was if they are to make it as special as it once was.
The room was beautiful and the food was delicious! It felt great to get pampered!
Best tea we had on this visit to London. The food is very good and what a beautiful setting...not to be missed.
Terribly overrated, overpriced afternoon tea.
Of all the afternoon tea experiences I have had, this was beyond doubt the best. The food w as not the “standard” set of sandwiches, the cakes were a delight, the service attentive but not intrusive and the ambience TOP class. My family and I all had a splendid tea and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Afternoon Tea at The Lanesborough was amazing! We went for my Dad's birthday and the staff catered to our needs. Lovely food and atmosphere.
Afternoon tea at the Lanesborough is one of our favorite London traditions! This visit was our first since the amazing renovation. The Celeste Restaurant is beautiful, a tranquil place for time together. Service was excellent too. Food is more gourmet than it used to be, and we prefer finger sandwiches more than canapés to start tea. Lovely experience, so we will return!
Lovely atmosphere, attentive service and very tasty food made for a very nice experience.
Everything at afternoon tea was outstanding including some of the most excellent service we have ever received. Loved that we were able to order a second plate of savories. When we go back to London, we will definitely consider having tea here again. Was also nice that it was an easy walk from Harrods.
Very nice, Good food, Polite people , put no chocolate sweet!!!?
It was a hard choice in choosing which high tea to go to during a recent trip to London. I'm extremely glad we chose The Lanesborough as the charm of the dining room was equally matched by the warmth of the staff. The food was a perfect amount and each tiny treat was delicious.
Sandwiches have been replaced by a new savoury selection, which was a nice change. Service unobtrusive and friendly.
Went with a friend to afternoon tea. The room is lovely and filled with natural light. The service was reasonable and friendly but there was no offer to top up tea with hot water or if we required anything else. Although the food was nicely presented, we found the sweet treats a bit too sweet and were not able to get through a few.
Very comfortable spot and relaxing but also not very many there on a Sunday lunchtime.
Everything was superb overall. The savory was short of completely satisfactory when compared to the sweet, but overall this was a fantastic experience.
Ambiente molto elegante, servizio eccellente, prezzo molto elevato.
Great of space .
So blingbling .
Service was o.k no up graded
Overall is good. You can refill only the savory. The salmon bun was so amazing.
However, I wasn’t satisfied with the service.
I think the restaurant should have more staffs. It took me a long time to call them and that’s really annoying.
Beautiful ambience but rather pricey with a sting in the tail.
The ambience and decor of the Celeste dining area for the afternoon tea was beautiful. Service was polite but not hugely attentive. The afternoon tea was slightly unusual in that the menu is small savouries rather than just sandwiches which is a nice change. The sweet choices were some small pastries and some scones. Overall it’s a nice venue but I’ve been to better afternoon teas in London.
Stunning ambience with beautiful decor and live piano playing. The service was lovely. Definitely a treat.
Gorgeous environment. Magnificent sweets. The coronation chicken sandwich - ❤️! Fabulous tea and wonderful service. Elegant and lovely.
Lovely setting. Excellent service. Celeste is a jewel—remembering us from a previous visit and making certain our Birthday event received special care-including my request for Cole Porter tunes being played by the accomplished pianist that afternoon.
Afternoon tea was beyond amazing; the Coronation Chicken was out of this world! Not to mention the scones were flavorful and moist; topped them with the strawberry preserves and clotted cream and I was in heaven. Will highly recommend this as the top spot for Afternoon tea to friends visiting London! Truly luxury at its finest.
This restaurant is totally messed up.
I booked a table for afternoon tea initially through open table but my ideal time wasn’t on there then (we wanted to have afternoon tea for lunch ideally) so I asked them about their availability of the earlier time than my booking time -14:30, which was the earliest available time of the day online, by email directly with the details of my online booking and our preference of the time politely.
Allegedly their afternoon tea time normally starts at 14:30 weekdays, 12:30 weekends.
We wanted to have it on bank holiday Monday, but they told me that it’s still Monday and one of weekdays according to their rules(?) surprisingly, so the earliest available time is 14:30 like other regular Monday.
I told them that because of our flight time, we will have to leave for Heathrow at around 15:00, so we can’t make 14:30, so I asked about Sunday (before the day) and they quickly found a table for us at 13:15, which was perfect time for lunch and I was really glad and appreciated it.
But I found my original booking made through open table was still there as it was, not modified the details or cancelled, so I asked them to edit it or I’d cancel it myself.
They kindly modified it, but wrong number of people (which was quite important for us as we were 5 in total and booking details said 4people. 4 and 5 is a big difference, not like 3 and 4, I think), so I wanted to make sure if my booking went through right, and next response astonishingly answered totally wrong date and number of people, which I had no idea about.
Additionally surprisingly, after I pointed it out, they sent me, all of sudden, the confirmation with wrong time -14:30(!).
I just asked them how to deal with my original booking that still existed on open table, which I believe they should have amended even before I asked.
I had no idea why I spent some time emailing them for nothing. To book just afternoon tea!
So this experience discouraged me to visit them again.
Staff made the afternoon really great, it was my partners birthday and Helena specifically made sure it was special
I was very much looking forward to an afternoon of tasty decadence to celebrate my 40th, especially after a pleasant call to reconfirm the table and the fact that it was a birthday celebration the day before. We were sorely disappointed.
A few good points: a beautiful dining room and good seats for people-watching. The scones and pastries were delicious and perfectly executed and the Lanesborough Afternoon Tea blend proved a refreshing accompaniment to them. Service on arrival was faultless and we felt like royalty at first, but that was short-lived.
Plates of sandwiches with beautiful edible floral decorations bypassed us and we were just served rather bland sandwiches with no themed decoration. There was no sign of the promised tea sommelier and it all felt rather perfunctory. I felt we didn't see the same waiter/waitress twice, our empty champagne glasses were whisked away without the offer of a refill (we'd have happily accepted) and we had to intercept a passing waiter to request a fresh pot of tea. It was brought without clean cups (first pot was the Lanesborough Afternoon Tea, we opted for the insipid Earl Grey the second time), a rather basic omission. It sounds pretentious but given the quality implied and cost of the whole meaI, I was disappointed they used teabags instead of loose leaf tea. Once the pastries had been served, nobody bothered to check if we’d like more tea, water, anything else. We were sat next to the waiters’ station & kitchen exit so impossible to miss us. And the “special something to mark the occasion of my birthday” promised by the kind chap who called me on Friday never appeared.
Completely underwhelmed by the whole disappointing experience, we eventually flagged down another waiter for the bill. I wish I’d been less British and refused to pay the service charge but I just wanted to leave. I won’t be returning nor recommending this venue to anyone. What a shame.
An absolute delight to experience High Tea at the Lanesbrough. It is so very stylish and civilised. Thank you.
it is not just about the food, but the overall experience. I felt as if I jumped in time and went somewhere in Russia ... St Petersbug, Hermitage, having tea with the royalty
What an amazing and classy place for afternoon tea! I have been to a handful of afternoon teas in London and the Lanesborough was hands down the best! I highly recommend the Lanesborough for tea!! THe staff was great and so was the food and tea. Very authentic afternoon tea right on Hyde Park Corner! Would absolutely go again.
It was lovely and quite we have lovely finger sandwiches, followed by scones and lovely cakes the lanesborough afternoon tea blend was lovely
Would highly recommend this for a special tea
