We were seated inside in a run down and soulless dining room, and after asking if we could possibly move to the terrace which seemed slightly better we were told it was full. I would have left only my family had come all the way from Scotland and we didn’t have an alternative booking, but the ambiance was honestly dreadful.
Very much enjoyed our afternoon tea. Staff were very welcoming, attentive and efficient. Good selection of everything …. Only slight criticism was of the scones and jam. The scones were rather dry and tasted like supermarket bought scones and the jam was not a quality jam and might have been nice if it had been a good quality strawberry jam.
The pastries were not of good quality the the scones as well. The price for the afternoon tea was too high, even considering the 25% discount through Opentable (there was a service charge of 12.5% on that amount
The ambient was beautiful
First time visit to this London venue for afternoon tea. Elements of the food were really nice (e.g. salmon sandwich, egg sandwich, scones, carrot cake and panne cotta), others were very disappointing (particularly the other cakes). At the start we asked if we could have coffee instead of tea, were told we could but then ended up with an additional charge for doing so (not great). The service started off well but tailed off dramatically as the afternoon wore on and some of the servers changed. Although we had an offer on the afternoon teas we felt it was one of the poorer ones we have had and will not be making a repeat visit with so many other venues in London to choose from.
I took my mother here for her 50th, she had an amazing time. We had the bottomless afternoon tea, our glasses was never empty. The service was outstanding. The scenery was beautiful. Definitely, coming back again.
We had a great experience at the afternoon tea. The staff was so kind and attentive. The afternoon tea comes with refills on any of the food items which was nice as well. I input my allergies online and they remembered them when I came to dine. Important note for me. Definitely worth the money and again, the staff being so nice was really what made it so good. Would recommend !
All the staff were so professional and welcoming. The balcony overlooking the gardens was so pretty. The afternoon tea was delicious and we could get refills of anything so we tried different tea. We were looked after by the lovely Isobella who was lovely to us. I would recommend this gem of a place.
Friendly attentive staff in a quite nice setting however the food doesn’t come anywhere the price tag - too many of the cakes were nicely baked (light and fluffy) but far too bland in flavour. Shame.
It was lovely, the service was amazing! The room we were in wasn’t the most glamorous but it was covid restrictions and I believe the other rooms were closed! Go for the service and value!
We had such an amazing time. It was a last minute booking and I’m so glad we did. Declan looked after us during our meal and we had the conservatory overlooking the gardens to ourselves. The service was outstanding, the food was amazing, the decor was full of character. I would have liked to have tried the safari afternoon tea however we booked last minute and 24 hours notice is needed.
Wonderful ambiance, attentive servers and delicious food (which you’re able to request more of free of charge). We did not feel rushed at all but we visited probably a little bit off season in the middle of the week. We used the 25% off discount promotion that was on when we visited. The location is a short walk from the British museum. I received a vegan food experience and my friend had regular tea. Both excellent.
Amazing place and amazing customer service!👍 highly recommend
It was a wonderful traditional tea time. Very pleasent atmosphere and very obliging service. I loved the Sweets!
Nice scones served in a piecefull garden with charming servants.
Great afternoon tea on the garden Had a great time.
The place was quiet and nice at the terrace. However, food quality was not as good as we expected. You can ask for the refill of the food but not tea! We were just given hot water, so we had to keep drinking diluted tea.
Lovely experience while visiting from the States. Took a tour at the British Museum then walked to have tea and sandwiches. Atmosphere is wonderful, service splendid and food & sweets were tasty.
Afternoon tea was not tasty- pass on the safari, nothing special about it. Waiter was nice but the rest were a bit rude.
Nice tea. Cakes were ok. Sandwiches were very average. Lush, regal, 1950’s-esque decor and the place oozes vintage class though every so slightly dated but I guess that’s the look.
For £90, grossly overpriced for two and no additional recognition of the special event. Think £25-£35 ( the latter if the service was improved) each would have been a far more realistic / value for money experience. Service was ok, the lady serving us seemed rigid and not warm but I guess everyone’s different and maybe she was having a bad day.
Just that at that price bracket, you expect an impeccable service. The door staff however were lovely and most professional and warm.
Enjoyed afternoon tea but did booked the terrace for special 60th birthday was disappointed we didn't get to sit there was offered indoor table which we accepted food was good
I was disappointed to be squished into a table meant for for when we had reservations for five. I made reservations more than seven weeks ago and they were surprised and didn’t immediately find us on the reservation list. Therefore, they were made to sit in a table that was less than comfortable. Tea was lovely and food was tasty however
Really nice tea room with leopard wallpaper! The safari afternoon tea was great!
Beautiful place but very ordinary afternoon tea. Service slow and we waited more than 30min for the food to arrive. Selection of tea was quite limited too. I don't think it is a good value for money paid.
Great scones and tea!! A little pricey, but not absurd.
Such a cute tea room. Lovely selection of sandwiches and pastries. The afternoon tea is too much for one person so I’d advise sharing between 2.
A hidden gem for afternoon tea , lovely ambience and attentive staff . Food excellent for choice and quality. Conservatory and garden terraces an added bonus.
Ordered afternoon tea set. The tea was alright (Jasmine and Earl Grey), but food wasn't. Scones were fine, but cakes were alternately somewhat tasteless, or far too sweet and cloying. The sandwiches themselves were boring, tremendously average, not especially fresh. Terrace was quite pleasant, waiters were good, but took rather long to get things prepared, and not easy to get their attention.
The staff at the Montague were wonderful and accommodating, despite us arriving one hour later than our reservation due to a time zone mix-up on our part. Our family enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea: a nice selection of sandwiches, scones, and cakes along with enough tea to revive us for a late evening visit at the British Museum next door. The atmosphere was refined without being stuffy, and it turned out to be a perfect, relaxing way to start our London vacation. Even the jet-lagged kids in our group enjoyed the experience.
It was fabulous. A wonderful experience. Excellent service.
Amazing environment, beautiful setting, but food could improve considering the price. It was very mediocre.
The best experience of afternoon tea I've ever had in London! The staff is so patient, they bring the tea box for you to smell and choose which one you prefer. There are various kinds of tea, the dessert is not too sweet not too light, just about perfect. I have tried the high price afternoon tea not value for money at all, but this place I would recommend to my friends and will come back again.
I used this place to afternoon tea with my friend.
Staff is very kind. The food was also very delicious.
I was very happy because my friend was pleased.
Lovely location, excellent service... but really, really hard to justify the price unless you are in an "all you can eat" kind of mood, in which case they'll keep serving whatever you like off the menu. I guess we just wanted a few sandwiches and bit of cake each, so that's all we had for £35 x 3.
Really enjoy everything.
We feel so cozy staying here.
Delicate tea room with good location.
Wonderfull and quiet atmosphere. Just what we needed for an afternoon tea. Excellent service, - great staff.
We went to the Montague to celebrate our daughter’s birthday and we were happy with our experience overall. The service was excellent and the food plentiful. The sandwiches were good and scones really lovely, unfortunately, the cakes were not particularly good. There was plenty of choice (7 in all I think) but we really only enjoyed 3 of them, sadly.
I have given the Montague 4 stars because of this but I do want to point out that overall, it was good value for money and the scones especially were excellent. They offer plenty more of everything, so my advice would be to have more scones and less cake!
Many thanks to the Montague for marking our daughters birthday with a little cake and candle!
My daughter was thrilled with the attention she got from the staff as a birthday girl. The menu was perfect.
excellent scone! definitely enjoyed my afternoon tea there! high recommended!
