Afternoon Tea at The Rooftop Restaurant at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre
Our informal yet striking dining room is unlike any other in the Midlands, with a terrace looking out onto the River Avon and surrounding countryside – the perfect spot for summer eating and drinking al fresco.
To complement the views, a simply prepared and beautifully cooked menu sits comfortably alongside a wine list packed with the best the Old and New World have to offer.
You don't need to see a show to eat at the Rooftop Restaurant, just an appetite.
Fabulous food, poor service.
Attentive staff who asked us just to let them know when we wanted our tea pot replenished (which we did). Sandwiches, scones and cakes were all superb. Great value. We have had afternoon tea in many other establishments, hotels and restaurants and this was by far the best one. Very happy to pay the optional 10% tip.
delicious - splendid ambience - well looked after -nothing else to say so why do you need 50 characters?
What a unfiendly greeting we had by miserable staff . Confusion over my booking too, also cold coffee & cold hot chocolate, I asked for good view park / riverside outside view, but got a view over noisey playground with drums. Plenty of room elsewhere . Scones were hard & tiny cakes were boring.Had to ask for extra plates for the scones we hadnt ordered , no staff around to help.
Also so cheeky to put on a service charge ,when our service was so awful. My cousin from Canada was not impressed. I was very embarrased by the whole experience . Nearly £10 for a glass of wine, thats robbery.
Some of the staff did not understand English.... what a nightmare.
A crowd of us recently had afternoon tea at the rooftop restaurant to celebrate a friends birthday. It was a fabulous afternoon with children and people with special dietary needs well catered for. Great place with lovely views and staff that are friendly and very accommodating. I would definitely recommend the restaurant for any occasion.
Lovely ‘high tea’ with a brilliant view, friendly staff and a good selection of savoury and sweet including great veggie options.
The service, ambience and view was fantastic. We had a special afternoon and really enjoyed it. The vegan afternoon tea was mostly fantastic, and I really appreciated having a full selection of treats for afternoon tea. I can't fault the RSC for most of the meal.
However, the food was not up the standard I expected at times. The savoury selection and the scones were delicious. The selection of cakes and sweet treats was a bit hit and miss unfortunately. We very much enjoyed it all except for a couple of things.
We mostly had a lovely afternoon tea but there are some areas to improve for the vegan option. We would come back again but maybe not order the same.
A pleasant afternoon tea with good service and good quality food as expected. The only down side was having to climb 3 flights of stairs due to the lift to which we were directed being out of order. We were not told that there was another lift in working order until we had reached the restaurant reception desk and complained about the climb up the stairs although the receptionist was very abrupt and seemed not to care.
The afternoon was very good and they catered to my dietary needs.
Although my booking did not go through to them but luckily I called in to check some details and managed to book it in person.
Pleased to discover a place that offers vegan afternoon tea. The savoury and sweet selection was all tasty and there was plenty of different flavoured tea to try. Vibrant atmosphere with hen parties and family get togethers. I would come here again. Only thing to improve is service as it was slow and the floor was dirty when we were seated.
Fab ambience great service lovely high tea definitely recommend
We took my Aunt there for Afternoon Tea to celebrate her 90th birthday and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The service was very good,I was brought the wrong tea but it was soon rectified. My Aunt asked for an extra teabag,as she likes her tea strong,no problem. The food was varied and all fresh,we could take our left overs home, perfect for my Aunt. The view from the restaurant is just great. So all in all I would have no problem recommending the RSC to friends and family.
I had booked a afternoon tea for myself and my date prior to the date of dining as required. Unfortunately on arriving I was told that no vegan food (despite having already specified upon booking) had been delivered that day and so we were turned away, both to my disappointment and embarrassment.
When we arrived I explained it was my mom’s birthday but there was no extra attention given; in fact we had to ask for napkins; knives; spoons etc. I thought the service as average. I thought we may be asked if we would like more sandwiches or another scone. It was lovely to sit outside and the view was lovely in the shade but I did feel disappointed - shame as people can make such a difference with a friendly service.
Wonderful experience having High Tea at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre’s Rooftop Reataurant. The food was delicious (a perfect combination of sweet and savoury) and the staff were friendly and helpful but not annoyingly disrupting. Would happily recommend this to anyone who enjoys High Tea.
This is a lovely venue for afternoon tea. Delicious sandwiches, cakes and scone with cream and jam. A great view while enjoying the food.
Fantastic venue and excellent service.Would recommend it fir any occasion.
Fabulous scenery, friendly staff, tasty food, we could take our time - we weren't rushed to finish at all. I'm a Bronze Patron of the RSC so I am there frequently, and always have a very enjoyable time.
Initially I was very sceptical about going for afternoon tea as I can only eat gluten free food and have been badly let down by other places in the past. However I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the afternoon tea at the Rooftop Restaurant and would recommend it to others who follow a gluten free diet. My daughter's were similarly impressed by their standard afternoon teas.
We had booked the table in March when the price of the afternoon tea was £15.95, when we arrived on 3rd June it has gone up to £18.95. We feel that the old price should have been honoured as we specifically requested the rooftop afternoon tea in our requirements.
Once our teas arrived we then had to ask for plates, napkins & cutlery as we weren’t given any. Only once did someone ask if we were ok. We also had to request more tea, no one was being attentive to us. We felt that the tea was not good value for money. The lemon poppy seed cake was so dry and not very nice. We were told that we would have one of each sandwich, because of that we felt that we couldn’t ask for a different selection. One of which was a pinwheel not even looking remotely like a sandwich.
We also felt that adding an optional 10% service charge certainly wasn’t justified, after having to ask for the bill too. It certainly wasn’t busy in the restaurant at all.
We did fill in a card and handed it in but didn’t put our details on it as we didn’t want to be informed of any offers. Initially we were going to take it with us and realised that we would have had to put a stamp on it. We genuinely feel that if you ask for feedback like that it should be freepost.
Had the vegan afternoon tea which was amazing. The falafel wrap and filo tart were fabulous. There could have been more of them they were that good. The scones were not the best but the lovely waiter was very apologetic and the chef gave us extra cakes as a reward. I would definately recommend this for vegan afternoon tea. Lovely.
Felt the service for our afternoon tea was not adequate, not friendly enough, just left the food and left us alone. Never asked if we wanted more drinks. Should be unlimited tea/coffee for the afternoon tea, like other places.
Myself and my friend had afternoon tea and were seated so we could see the river and the surrounding area - very enjoyable.
£20 for stale scones - you've got to deliver better than that. A great view alone is just not enough.
Poor experience. Sent a note when booking that it was a special occasion (30th birthday) this didn’t seem to have been registered.
Seated inside in an obtrusive table in the middle of the restaurant - not the rooftop setting I was expecting.
Food was extremely poor, particularly the sweets.
Zero service. Plates left uncleared, we waited a long time then had to go to the bar to pay.
A senior member of staff spoke in an inappropriate manner to a waitress in front of ourselves and other diners. If there was a problem with the way she was serving people this should have been done in private. Unacceptable and set a very negative tone.
They then had the audacity to add on a 10% service change even though no service had been provided.
Lovely experience. Good food. Great service. Fabulous views from the restaurant
We had afternoon tea for 2 adults and 2 children but not value for money. Not enough sandwiches for children. Did not enjoy the selection of sandwiches for adults (no flexibility in choice). Not a good selection of cakes for adults or children. We wanted to sit out on balcony but tables only for 2 people which was a disappointment. This was not noted when booking online.
Absolutely fantastic. Would visit again. Superb food and staff so helpful.
I had bought this as a Christmas gift for my friend and we finally got to go on the hottest weekend.
Stratford was buzzing with the sunshine out and after some retail therapy we headed off to the Rooftop restaurant.
We weren't seated outside but close, with the door onto the verandah opposite us.
We still had a great view of the park and the river which was so busy this really helped our experience.
We were well attended and the food was very tasty an assortment of savouries a brioche egg roll, rye bread with smoked salmon, cucumber sandwich and a cheese pastry swirl.
a variety of small cakes and scones.
We were both very happy with our afternoon tea and would certainly recommend the Rooftop restaurant,
The booking was for my father's 70th birthday gift. The RSC did not have the booking on their reservations but because it was quiet they could fit them in. The cakes and sandwiches are much less refined than they used to be and the cost has gone up, so that didn't make sense. Also because they had no record of my booking they did not know to make a special effort for the special occasion so it was overall and underwhelming experience, which is a shame as I have always loved afternoon tea there. I am booked in for my own birthday but considering changing locations.
Very disappointed in the service we received last weekend. When booking I advised of a number of allergies that needed to be catered for, however on arrival we were told we needed to discuss these further with the person serving at our table. Allergies were again confirmed when ordering our afternoon tea, the nut allergies were dealt with no issues. The second allergy, latex, was not. The chef and server took it upon themselves to decide what could be eaten with listening to us. We confirmed that they could have no mayonnaise or tomatoes among a number of other things. The server then pointed out the food that could be eaten from what was already set out - clearly they have not heard of cross contamination. A final request of a plain ham sandwich was met with rolled eyes and incredibly poor attitude from the server. A complaint was made to the manager at the time so hopefully the staff will be provided with better training in these sort of situations.
Also, between the time of booking our table and the event, the cost of the afternoon tea had increase from £15.50 to £18.95 - a disappointing increase especially given the poor service we received.
We went to celebrate a friend's 60th birthday. The staff were so helpful, putting a table decoration for us to add to the surprise. The food was lovely and there was so much we all had to take a box home! One of the party is a vegetarian and she was catered for without any fuss. It's great value for money and the views are outstanding. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant
Great for gluten and dairy free afterwards tea . Staff friendly and helpful
Very friendly service, nice and stylish ambiente, high quality offer
Was disappointed with the afternoon tea as have better else were, felt that it was over priced and was paying for the location
Took my friend for vegan high tea. Food was very tasty, though 3 small sandwich fingers didn't feel quite enough. Sadly, there was no soya cream for the scones, so we made do with margarine. It was a nice treat, but I'm not sure I'd go again, as it wasn't great value for money.
Had afternoon tea. Sandwiches were stale and scones were soggy.
Wonderful experience, delicious vegan food, courteous staff, quiet, relaxed venue with great views
I was so pleased to find the roof top restaurant offers a vegan afternoon tea! It was absolutely delicious, I actually queried if the cream for the scones was vegan because it tasted so good, the waitress was very helpful and found the make of the cream for me, the staff were all pleasant and helpful and although very busy we didn’t feel rushed. I would highly recommend and will be returning again.
Very friendly staff who were attentive and good with the children. Lovely view to enjoy whilst tucking in to a delicious afternoon tea. Not cheap but would definetly recommend for a special occasion.
