Alston Bar & Beef
Alston Bar & Beef, named after the long forgotten main street of Grahamston village, is located underneath the Gordon Street entrance of Glasgow Central Station. Follow the stairs down to Alston’s underground arches to a bar with Glasgow’s widest range of gin, each uniquely garnished & served to perfection.
Glaswegians are spoilt for choice when it comes to great places to eat & Alston aims to raise the bar for meat lovers even further by serving the best steak the city has to offer. Choose from a selection of 35 day dry-aged steaks, including the Chateaubriand to share or Glasgow’s favourite, the fillet. All our Scotch beef is carefully chosen from accredited farms each renowned for producing quality beef, full of flavour & tenderness.
Christmas lunch was excellent. Restaurant and bar very busy, however still looked after very well. Staff were excellent. We will be back
Really fantastic work xmas night, lovely table and view and service and food was delicious x
Lovely place and food good, not a huge menu but food is good. Would definitely go back.
Good food, friendly and attentive staff, lovely space and reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend 🌟
A great night made all the better by some of the best staff I have ever experienced in a Glasgow restaurant. Thank you all.
Lovely meal and very attentive service with friendly staff. Only downside was no liquer glasses. Sambuca and Port served in tumblers.
Food was excellent and everyone was served their meal at the same time. Cocktails were quality and they obviously have experienced staff who know whether to “appear” or not. If you want a quality meal and don’t mind a bit of noise give it a go.
Lovely meal with friends, staff extremely nice, would definitely recommend
Alston’s is my favourite restaurant in town. Me and my partner took my mom here as she was visiting from Spain And thought it would be nice as a catch up. We’re all in the hospitality industry so we appreciate some good food and good service. Altons never fails to disappoint, food is always outstanding and the girls who were serving us were so attentive and so lovely. As always amazing
I went to celebrate my graduation and it was an absolutely perfect meal. I had the filet and it was one of the best steaks I’ve had in a long time. The almond sponge dessert was amazing as well. Everyone enjoyed their meal and drinks. The Service was impeccable and much appreciated. We will definitely be back.
We had been before and had an outstanding meal. This time around sorely disappointed, particularly given the price of the dishes. The starter of seared scallops at £14 arrived cool !!! For the main course I had a 300g Ribeye steak (medium Raw) and frankly, I can get a better tasting and cheaper steak in the likes of Miller & Carter. Further, the steak rind had not been caramelised and had not been properly rested (ring of blood on the plate) unacceptable for £31+ My wife's experience was no better, whilst her starter was fine and only fine, the main course of turkey was not up to her expectations, dry and the vegetables overcooked. On this performance, I think we'll be looking elsewhere in future
Had booked the Christmas special menu weeks previously but they did not have it on a Saturday so had to eat off the main menu. Overall the service was excellent but it is an overpriced burger at £17. Eaten here lots of times and probably will do again but will check the menus on the day before we go again as it was a Christmas lunch out with friends.
Great steak, lovely wine, wonderful service but only OK chips! A good place especially if you’re looking for something by the crazily busy Central Station
Very nice evening. Friendly and efficient service. Steaks delicious but coming from France we found the price of a good steak very expensive but not only in your restaurant but in all the other restaurants in Glasgow we ate in.
Have visited here and eaten about 5 times now. My favourite place for a wee treat! Delicious steaks, cooked to perfection, sides are fab too. Service was great, served by a young guy, not sure of his name, but looked after us really well- was pleasant, friendly, professional. A perfect wee waiter!! I always sample different gins in the bar before dinner, this time Daffy’s (perfect serve of course!!) with recommended mint, lime and elderflower tonic - yum! Again a great experience at Alston and will return again. Thank you x
As always, the food and service were great. Interesting selection of things on the Christmas a la carte. I usually have steak but this time I had monkfish and it was delicious.
Bit expensive for what we got , my husbands fillet steak was lovely medium rare , but mine medium and only warm and a little dry to be honest sauce we had with it was luke warm as well and had to pay extra for vegetables at £33 a steak I thought was a little cheeky.
Service was excellent , very attentive nd surroundings were lovely , starter and sweets were lovely
The service was exceptionally good. All members of staff were pleasant, welcoming, efficient and friendly. The menu was varied and catered to most tastes. The food however, although very tasty, was overcooked. The chipolata sausages were so hard that it was difficult to cut them and the vegetables were far too soft.
Very good food, great cocktails, perfect service, good it was just a bit too expensive. Meat was cooked perfectly, so order exactly how you like it, fillets are nice and thick, mac cheese was a little bit of a let down as a slight lack of cheese, triple cooked fries were a wee bit tired but not a big complaint there, skinny fries were great and the scallops starter stole the show - fantastic!
I I have been to Alston a few times and always rated it highly. I didn't really enjoy the Christmas shoppers lunch, turkey roll was really dry and the potatoes weren't that tasty.
Everything about our visit was great apart from the starter. The drinks, steaks and service were all perfect, probably the best steak I have had in Glasgow. The duck starter was unlike any duck I have had before, more like spam than duck. I would definitely return and would recommend to friends and family... Just avoid the duck starter.
Staff were very dour. We waited quite a bit of time before we got drinks served and a table that came in after us were served before us. The starters were very good and the main meal was awful. Will not be back anytime soon.
great service and food! Never fails to disappoint.
Went for Sunday lunch . Fantastic service , value & food was great.
Lovely place too . Handy for the station, even has a departure board too.
Dessert was a bit meh , just a de constructed pear & almond cake . Poached pear . Dry sponge . Would have been better with more sauce . Roast Beef Amazeballs . Thanks guys . 💗
Great food, great service & great for date night
Food was lovely good service. Only let down was the knives were not sharp enough to cut the steak.
We booked this for my wife’s birthday/retirement and asked for a “nice” table. We were offered a table beside the emergency exit and coat rail. I asked for an alternative where I saw at least two spare tables. My preferred option was rejected as it was going to make up tables for a party of 17, which either didn’t appear or were eating after 10.00 when we left. We took a table in the middle of the room.
The beef is advertised as specially selected- certainly not the best ribeye we have eaten. The chips were soggy and the mash was grainy with nowhere near enough butter to produce a creamy mash.
Sweet select was limited as were the starters.
The service was good, but overall I expected more, so disappointed with the restaurant and would neither recommend or revisit.
Another fabulous meal at Alstons. Excellent service, food and drink. We will be back.
Paying £22 for a good quality (rump) steak I would expect a least Some additional things on plate not just chips & the source.. some mushrooms, onions or bit of garnish.. overpriced in my opinion for what was served
A perfect dining experience. Food is exquisite and the service is top notch!
Experience dining here was brilliant. Fantastic food. Fantastic service. Booked through OpenTable, quick and easy. I booked this for my first anniversary with my girlfriend and we were given a complimentary glass of prosecco each. We both had the D-Rump Steak from the Set Menu and it was the best steak I've had so far in Glasgow. Will definitely be back!
Amazing atmosphere and even better food, cannot wait to go back to try the Sunday roast!!
Lovely atmosphere, lighting, and food was all amazing
First visit and will definitely be back. Great selection on set menu and amazing food, great value for money.
My boyfriend and I went here for his birthday meal- it was amazing! Great food, great service- only problem was finding the front door!! (Next to paper chase inside central station.) We’ll be back !
Would perhaps recommend but not totally sure. We were in for a quiet meal for a 60th and were next to a really rowdy bunch, inappropriate chat and smashed few glasses. Maybe should have been evicted quicker than they were. Staff very good food slow to arrive but we were in no hurry really.
Great food and drink. Staff were attentive and helpful. It has never let me down.
Very enjoyable lunch. Well worth a visit. Steak was one the best I have eaten out
Amazing as always, never fails to disappoint. Best steak in Glasgow.
Went along with family and friends. The restaurant was lovely and the food was excellent. However, we waited 30 minutes for drinks and over an hour for our first course. Just lacked a personal touch and attention to customers.
