Fantastic meal for our anniversary, couldn’t recommend highly enough
First time we tried this place, the food and attention by the staff was on the money.
Great relaxing time as well as sensational food.
Will be booking again soon, highly recommended.
Amazing food,service and ambience
Excellent restaurant with friendly staff and outstanding food!
Great midweek offer of 3 steaks, 3 sides and bottle of wine - £50
The staff were great chat and the food outstanding. Highly recommended.
Sent my wife and her pal in after a few of us ate there the other week and thought it was amazing.
Staff were awesome and fillet steak was sublime.
What’s not to like - love the fact it’s small and personal.
Can’t wait to return !
The quality of food (excluding steaks) is decidedly average, as is the service. There is nothing about Alston these days that would entice me back.
Arrived to find Sunday Roast was sold out.
Ordered Sirloin Steak instead. Good size steak but incredibly tough.
Mentioned to staff and got a sharper knife. Had another go but after mentioning to the waiter that the steak was still a bit tough he had a word with the kitchen and came back to say that, after checking, the meat delivery that day wasn't up to standard.
Other food at the table was good. Pasta and Rib-eye.
Asked for garlic bread and it was made to order without a fuss (I mistakenly thought it was on the menu without looking - it wasn't on the menu. Very tasty)
A little overpriced.
The only thing steak knife wouldn't cut butter server says new ones on way .
The food was delicious and presented beautifully. Lovely setting. It was clean, comfortable and laid back. All servers were lovely, polite and attentive, possibly too attentive; three different servers came to take our drinks order (after we ordered drinks) in the first 5 minutes of being seated. But outwith that very very minor issue it was a great experience.
Great evening and accommodating even tho we were late
Service was fantastic. Food was lovely. Would prefer a bit more choice on the menu.
Possibly the best steak I have ever had!
This place was so good. Service amazing and the food was superb.
Very nice two course Sunday Lunch. Choice of well done or pink roast beef which is nice for the fussy eaters! Plenty of meat on the plate too. Delicious.
I’m sad to write this review to be honest, we’ve eaten here before and it was fantastic, which is why I booked it for my husbands 50th Birthday celebration. Unfortunately on this visit the service was slow, the drinks too around 20mins to arrive and the food was not cooked correctly. My filet steak was over cooked, my husband’s was undercooked as was my sisters ribeye. I then found a hair on my plate under my chips. I understand that there are real challenges with numbers of staff within hospitality right now and that’s what seemed to be the problem, there were just too few staff working to serve at the bar and in the restaurant. When we asked why our drinks were so slow in coming the staff told us they are just too busy at the bar which I’m sure is true but not really good enough given the price of the drinks and the food. The manager did take my main course off the bill and gave us a discount and apologised. I actually felt quite sorry for the staff who just seemed far too busy. It was a very disappointing visit, I had given the reason for our meal, no effort was made to say happy birthday to my husband, in other restaurants they have written a nice message on a plate for him, just a nice touch which didn’t happen here. It is an expensive restaurant which sadly this time was not worth the money. Such a shame as this is usually a fantastic place.
Another fabulous dining experience with amazing food and lovely staff
I've been to Alston several times over the years but sadly I think this will be my last. Way way to expensive now and the 10% service charge is a complete joke. Staff are lovely and the food is good but not worth almost £150 for 2 having a 2 course meal with a couple of drinks.
Tasty steak, well cooked. Good atmosphere in quirky surroundings which we liked. Staff pleasant and efficient.
Excellent all round.. just a little bit pricey.
That said, food was great, staff were excellent too
The food, as usual, was excellent.
I am glad they are going back to their lunch menu as I found that a more pleasant experience and far better value for money.
But to be fair, I knew the prices before going in. I mention it here because in the past I have eaten here on the lunchtime deal, which they have just reinstated. I find a fantastic deal and will always highly recommend Alston on that basis.
The place was really noisy, and the nose was quite high in the place. This might be because of Friday night. I've eaten in the place of an evening before and it was never as loud as this.
In addition, the serving staff just could not leave us alone for five minutes. Take this the right way, I don't mind servers asking if there is anything else we might need once in a while. But this night it was every five minutes on rotation from three or four different servers. It felt like they were all competing for our attention.
Between the noise levels and the servers interrupting, it wasn't a place for quiet contemplative conversation.
That said, I have always found the place at lunchtime a fantastic deal and a great place to eat. I will always be back for that.
Everything was beautiful. One of the best fillet steaks we have had in years. Staff couldn’t of done enough.
Can’t wait to return.
It was our first time heard amazing things. Food and drinks were amazing!did not disappoint . We were really disappointed on service. The atmosphere and ambience was lovely! Couldn’t fault the food or drinks. Food arrived before drinks. We could see our drinks lying out for ages. We had to ask to bring our drinks over multiple times. Then we ordered more drinks and they arrived after we had finished. We will come back and try it again.
Midweek special was changed limiting the choices from the menu so we had to order extra. Steaks were different as well, with no explanation as to which was which. We commented to two servers that two of the three steaks were 'hard work' and both assured they would pass this on. We did not receive any return feedback from our comments.
Food is still great and this is a fantastic restaurant, but this time it could have been better.
Absolutely over joyed at finding this restaurant. A jewel in the Crown. Could not fault it,from the meeting staff bar staff waiting staff.food excellent best roast beef Sunday lunch in Glasgow. Amazing price ,would have payed double .Will definitely be back and recommending to family and friends,10/10
Great place serving good food, would definitely recommend and would go again. Service was top notch.
Fantastic meal and drinks, would highly recommend!
5th visit and it has never disappointed. Atmosphere is good, service good and the Chateau Briand is a must.
Very impressed with restaurant would definitely return.
Amazing food and great service. Best steak I've ever had, definitely be back.
Service was great, swift and always at hand. All thru the meal there was an annoying drip from pipe work above my head which kept dripping on my clothes. Food was amazing and as long as I wasn’t seated at the same table I’d definitely go back!
We have ate here a few times and the food has always been lovely. This time however the steaks were not great quality for the price you are paying. Staff were lovely but felt a bit rushed. Didn’t like the service charge added for a table of 3…not sure if we will return which is disappointing :-(
Great food, great location. We will definitely go back.
You know exactly what you are going to get at Alstons, great food, great service with a friendly and informal atmosphere. We go every time we dine out in Glasgow - special and well worth a visit.
We've been before and found the food okay but on this occasion the steaks were disappointing - poor quality and almost impossible to cut with the steak knives provided! For such a limited menu we had expected exceptional quality.
Enjoyed an excellent meal at this restaurant; food beautifully cooked with service excellent. Highly recommeded.
excellent steak cooked to perfection. Good portion sizes, great drinks selection. Will be back.
Booked for Saturday night at 8pm.
All was going well ordered our dinner it arrived and the chateaubriand for 2 was so tough it was a struggle to cut with a knife. We are what we could because we waited over 40 minutes, which was fine as we were told this because of cooking times. The chips were under cooked and greasy so we couldn’t eat this. We did complain at the time. The server then said she would get a manager over. He came over I told him the same thing he took the plates away and we never saw him again until we were leaving and he was sitting having a beer near the bar! No wanting to spoil other people’s night my wife said just pay the bill and she would email about our disappointment. So we asked for the bill and when it arrived there was things on it that we hadn’t even ordered, so we sorted that paid the bill and left very unhappily. We got on the train home and my wife emailed right away. Still no reply to her email! Very let down as we have ate here numerous times before and have always enjoyed it!
Steak was amazing and the chipotle Mac and cheese! The service was superb and I really appreciate the waitress taking the time to suggest a white wine for us! A fabulous night for my boyfriend’s birthday, we will be back for sure!
