Amelies Porthleven -
Enjoy fresh food, fine wines, excellent service and a stunning location.
Sit back. Relax. Welcome to Amélies.
Another great visit to this lovely restaurant. The St. Valentine's Day menu was wonderful and the quality was superb ! The restaurant was full but despite this, the service was good.
We had new year's day lunch here, my meal was excellent, breaded brie starter was the best i've had! Seafood linguine was full of flavour and the Apple and winter fruit crumble was superb flavour. Look forward to going next time we're back in Cornwall.
Another outstanding visit, this time to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. The Quality of Food and the Service were excellent. Compliments to the Chef and the Management ! It made our Wedding Anniversary special !
For the fifth year running, great food, friendly and efficient service, beautifully decorated for Christmas. We'll be back next year.
I had the mussels. They were delightful but there were just too many. A large casserole dish which could have fed two at least. I unfortunately had to leave at least half which was a pity. Terrific value but over faced me. Also a finger bowl with lemon would have been helpful.
Having watched the TV program involving Amelie's we thought we would give it a try. The food was good but not brilliant the service was excellent and the building could do with refreshing.
Whatcwe did not like was dogs allowed in to the restaurant when people are eating especially having to step over them when moving around. Sorry big NO NO. Will not return
Overall a very good experience and yes we will be going back there the next time we are in Cornwall.
Having eaten here twice last year, we were pleased to visit again inviting special guests for a lovely meal. Super relaxed atmosphere . Good service but not rushed. Good choice on menu.
Had a wonderful lunch, very quiet only ourselves and one other table in. We both had fish dishes that where wonderful. Staff where friendly and I would love to go back when it is busier. Although suited us being quiet as we had our 3 month old with us and don't like to disturb other diners. My fish platter was massive but all very good. Scallops and squid where great few too many mussels and prawns but still loved it!
Located in one of our favorite coastal villages, Amelias lived up to our expectations.
A thoroughly enjoyable experience. The food was great, and the service from everyone was cheerful swift and attentive.
Living just a few miles away we will certainly return. We will certainly recommend it to our friends. If you enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and great food don't miss Amelias.
See you all again before too long.
My wife and I celebrated her birthday at Amelies with an evening meal on October 3rd, 2015. The food was outstanding and the service excellent. We have been to Amelies a few times over the last 5 or 6 years - but this was by far the best meal we have ever had there. There was a buzz and a happy atmosphere about the place. Waiters were attentive without being intrusive and the Head Waiter co-ordinated everything subtlety but efficently. 1st Class !
Prompted by the BBC programme, we embarked on my first visit to Cornwall to give Amelie's a try as a belated Wedding Anniversary celebration.
Amelie's overlooks the picturesque little Porthleven harbour area, so the décor of wooden tables and comfy padded benches is fits the theme perfectly.
Out of curiosity we glanced at the menu at Rick Stein's place next door, but it didn't look anywhere near as imaginative as Amelie's.
The restaurant was very busy - hardly surprising on a Saturday evening - but the staff took this in their stride. The atmosphere was relaxed, there was no sense of being hurried in order for them to fit in other diners and we were very well looked after throughout our visit.
As for the food, what can I say? I opted for the lobster which was a little more expensive than anything I would normally go for, but it was a special occasion and well worth the money. The whole meal was absolutely delicious and of course beautifully presented. Lemon sorbet in Prosecco is something I'll definitely try at home
We'd certainly recommend Amelies's and can't wait to go back to visit them and Cornwall again.
The food was very good and reasonably priced. We did not have to wait long and the portion size was good. The staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was romantic.
My boyfriend and myself were recommended this restaurant by a friend and it didn't let us down. The location is fantastic and same with the restaurant. Staff were friendly and the food was gorgeous especially the seafood. The prosecco sorbet was lovely. We would definitely eat there again if we were in the area but we live in London so would be a while before we return.
We visited on an afternoon 'off season' so the restaurant was very quiet. The food was excellent and a good choice.
Cornwall is awash with eateries, whether you are north, south, west, east, going small, large, medium, good, bad, indifferent, the list(s) endless. Fortunately 'Amelies' Porthleven, as always, punches above the average fare.
You can be enamoured of the celebrity type of foodie location but there are times when something a little bit more inventive taps the right spot.
With its harbour side location, in house entertainment (you need to check when that is happening) varied menu and bespoke construction, a pleasurable place to take a break, whatever time of day.
If you are around, holiday or other, I would suggest giving it a try.
Having seen Amelies on TV, we had to give it a try whilst staying in Porthleven. The venue is lovely and the staff friendly and welcoming. However, the service leaves a lot to be desired - there was a distinct lack of organisation and the wait time for our food was unacceptable. I agree freshly cooked food takes a while but not that long and when the main course arrived my husband's plaice was overlooked and my hair was lukewarm. The flavours of both our starters and mains were lovely and the ambience was great. A nice experience and I'm glad we tried it but we would not rush back.
We had a lovely meal, food good, atmosphere good , thoroughly enjoyable!
The way the bar and till is set up, on arrival staff have their backs to you. , so you are waiting for them to acknowledge you.
We were shown to our table and waited at least fifteen minutes for an order to be taken.
Three tables were occupied at that time.
I think there were 5 waiting staff, but no one seemed to be in charge.
The salt grinder was empty.
A replacement was given to us.
Check salt and pepper at the beginning of service.
I thought I saw three/four staff in the catering area. Why so slow.
The food was fine.
Within a minute of our food given to us, we were asked if everything was ok.
I had'nt even tasted it. !!!
Now that was the only thing that was speedy.
The staff were lovely, but headless chickens comes to mind.
I asked for the bill. No problem.
I waited an age to pay and had to ask for my money to be taken .
Again, staff with their backs to the bar area.
The setting is good.
Dog friendly and child friendly.
After visiting Amelies on previous occasions we were looking forward to a great night out with excellent food. Sadly on this occasion both food and service were poor. Both starters had issues with shell in the oysters and the onion marmalade missing from the Baked Camembert leaving it very tasteless until we finally managed to catch the obviously new waiters eye to ask for it. After a very appealing description on the menu my husband chose the more expensive option of the woodfired lobster with the chorizo. Although looking nice when it arrived it was provided with no finger bowl and no chorizo in sight. Once again it was impossible to catch the attention of a waiter and it was only when the food was finished that we had the opportunity to raise our concerns. I would however say that my plaice was delicious. A 10% discount was given and we left disappointed. Having had previous meals we hope that Amelie's works its way through these simple service and quality control issues as it has the potential, location and decor to achieve great things.
My partner and I booked Amelie's as one of our two meals out during a week's holiday in Porthleven.
We were greeted immediately as we walked through the door and shown to our table- the service was fantastic from start to finish.
The food was faultless. It was delicious and nicely- presented. We had a starter and a main course but unfortunately were too full for pudding which was a shame as they looked delicious too!
We would definitely return to Amelie's. It was by far the nicest meal and 'dining experience' of the two we had that week. I won't mention the name of the other restaurant but let's just say that having a famous chef's name above your door does not automatically make it a success!
Having spent a week in Porthleven we have had a chance to try most of the excellent restaurants here, and unfortunately Amelie's does not come up to the standard presented by many of its rivals. In lesser towns it may have been fine but on all criteria it fell slightly short. The food itself was fine but a little unimaginative, the service was a little haphazard and did not make us feel "cherished".
When we first arrived, we knew it would be busy. I'm glad we booked a table! Once seated, the staff were lovely, particularly the blonde lady with glasses! She was a fab waitress. The food was generally high quality although a few things were a let down. The peppercorn sauce didn't taste of peppercorn and it was watery - hardly worth £2 for the small amount. The pulled pork burger was actually pork chops in a bun which made it hard to eat (strange!) Other than that, the ambience was lovely, staff were great and I would go back again although we did think the prices were a little steep as nothing wowed us.
An excellent venue with superb choice of dishes. The food is always fabulous and the atmosphere really is great. It's one of our favourite restaurants and one of the best in
Had a lovely evening at Amelie's. Both my starter Camembert and main meal, dressed crab were lovely. The restaurant were great in accommodating a large group of all ages. They split the bill as requested and our male waiter was very friendly. There was a warm atmosphere and it was great you could see the open pizza oven.
Took my parents for a special family lunch here and they loved it as much as I do. Their scallops with chorizo are the best I've ever tasted and the salt and pepper squid is amazing. There's always something my daughter loves too. The quality of service equals the quality of the food. With a view of the beautiful porthleven harbour included it makes Amilies the perfect location for an amazing meal out.
We've been to amielees before but this time it lacked what you would expect for the cost, the service was not great, too many youngsters with very little training and no personality. There was no ambience at all. The food was ok but at sa cost of nearly £200 for 4 people I don't think it was good value. It's a real shame as it used to be our favourite place to eat in Porthleven but after this week 2 other restaurants in Porthleven far exceeded amielees quality , I hope they can turn it around.
Amelies is our absolute favourite! The menu is excellent, the food (which is served quickly) is always delicious and the service is friendly and professional.
Lovely location and nice setup in the restaurant , quite small so definitely book in advance during busy times. The menu is a good size and lots of variety, I had lobster which was superb, my partner had pull pork burger which was more like a pork chop/steak in a bun. Staff were friendly but not massively attentive, we had to ask for more drinks continuously , empty glasses were left on the table for the entire evening and most disappointing was the 45min wait for a shared starter. All in all a good experience and I would return but only during the off season.
Having been to Amelies on a previous visit to Porthleven we were disappointed. From our arrival on a Saturday evening the staff seemed rushed and the delays in getting simple things delivered like bottled water proved difficult when it shouldn't be. The food itself was average although the sardines were good. We even had to chase to pay at the end. It was definitely a contrast to our previous experience.
Arrived 7:30 and it took 20 minutes for fellow guests to park - not a good start
By 7:45 told lobster was sold out - signature dish and main reason for booking, so disappointing
Plenty of staff available but no co-ordination and no obvious manager. the restaurant wasn't overly busy.
Had to ask to order drinks and each course. Requested desert menu but were promptly forgotten, so had to ask again
All of this wouldn't have been too bad had the food been excellent - unfortunately it wasn't.
Over-sized fish cake starter lacked finesse and flavour
Main course fish served in too small a bowl, mussels in shells with no finger bowl or side plate offered. Also lacked flavour.
Desert obviously mass produced - I had one rounded corner of tray bake which looked unsightly and was dry. The caramel sauce didn't come together at all. We had to go to the bar to pay because we got tired of waiting for the bill. We did try to complain on leaving but the waitress looked completely amazed
I had family staying for a long weekend and booked Amelies, The Ship at Mawgan, The Old Cellars in Cadgwith and Coast on the Lizard. Amelies provided the worst food, the worst service AND the biggest bill. I think we'll stick to the other restaurants in future
staff not attentive enough, it was not busy, was served a warm bottle of rose, we where offered a bucket of ice
disappionting, snotty woman in striped pinny, service very poor and not value for money.
I think I've probably had the best lobster in my life so far. Great taste and presentation! Service was good and we had the pleasure of experiencing a live band as well. It's been great and when we're back in Cornwall we'll definitely be back at Amelies
What amazing place to eat the food was amazing the atmosphere and entertainment was the best. Thank you Sam for a great night can't wait to come back soon
The ambience at Amelie's is relaxed and comfortable , the food was served at our request in a timely manner so we could enjoy the evening and were not rushed . The quality of the food and the service was excellent . This was our third time we have dined here's even though it is 50 miles from where we live and we will be back again soon
For the past few years with our visits to Porthleven we have always made a visit to Amelies.
And again Sam and her team didn't fail....the food was good, and the service was prompt, all in a relaxed environment on the harbour side. Looking forward to our next visit.
Friendly staff, but long wait for starter we booked our table then when a couple walked in off the street half hour after us they were served at the same time ,garlic was burnt ,could do with something to pick out meat from crab claw. dressed crab was ice cold v.ery expensive for what you get.
A really lively, buzzing atmosphere, slightly chaotic but in a good way!
Food was really delicious with a good choice from home made burgers to lobster.
Staff friendly and on the ball.
We travelled from Kent for a few days holiday in Cornwall with specific purpose of eating at Amelie's after seeing the Alexi Polizzi programme, it was definitely worth it.
We were served by Holly, who was one of the most friendly and efficient waitresses I have come across. A real credit to Amelies. The food was good, but not exceptional. The mackerel, for example, was perfectly cooked, but lacked a bit of character. The prices were just a little bit higher than we would have expected.
