Just like its Old Town home, there are plenty of unexpected nooks, overlooking the Cockburn Street steps, the atmospheric Dining Room is at the heart. For more private occasions, the Halo room sits snug above Roxburgh’s Close. Tucked away from the Royal Mile, Chanters is ideal for that celebration.View Private Dining Details
The tasting menu was a very good choice with wine served to match each course. Excellent meal and service.
Our second visit and it did not disappoint. Lovely food, good, reasonably priced wine and friendly service.
Thoroughly recommend. Excellent service and fabulous food. We had the chateaubriand which was cooked to perfection.
Booked after reading reviews, I wanted something that ticked all the boxes. Compliments to the chef, I had goats cheese starter, Chateaubriand then couldn’t resist Chocolate Rhubarb! All I can say, looking forward to staying in Edinburgh again, and wouldn’t hesitate to return!😍
Had an early reservation. The restaurant, which is small, is in a lovely space. There were two table of 2 and only one other group arrived while we were dining. On Open Table the place had only an early time slot available. Nevertheless, while lovely tables were completely empty ( the entire time) we were seated in the last table in the restaurant with one of us facing the back wall. Why’s that? Would we have fared better as walk-ins? The server was not knowledgeable nor terrible efficient. There was no warmth. Was it worth it? I’d say no. Even for foodies what makes a place special is the overall vibe. On our visit this restaurant missed the mark.
Nice place, a little bit noisy when room is full. Good food and warm service .
Took my partner for an anniversary. Food was out of this world, I had fish starter as they had ran out of the crab...not even slightly disappointed as it was magnificent. Main was lamb, far rarer than my usual chop and again it was perfect for the dish as a whole and if they have a wine recommendation, take it!! Panna cotta and a liquor coffee for pud, the panna cotta was the show stopper for me. The fruit accompaniment was perfectly suited, not to sharp that it soured the mouth!!. Staff fantastic, attentative but not overbearing. Never caught with food in my mouth which was refreshing 😂 cosy, romantic setting and even when in such close proximity to other tables, the noise level was perfect for private conversation. We will definitely be back and couldn't recommend this little gem highly enough. Thanks for a great night!
Had a dinner for our wedding anniversary and it was really phantastic... The location, staff, food, drinks, everything. Thank you!
We were only in Edinburgh for 2 nights and chose this restaurant for a nice meal based on other reviews. We were seated downstairs in a a lovely small dining area that I’m sure would be even prettier if it was dark outside (we were only able to get a 6:30 reservation on a Tuesday). The food was delicious. We both had fish. They have a good wine list too. Our server did an excellent job, as she was the only server for the room. I would definitely recommend this restaurant .
Excellent restaurant and would not hesitate to recommend. Food perfectly cooked and presented and very food service. Great location in the old town. Very glad we booked as this place gets full at the weekend.
Amazing meal wonderful service definitely recommend to friends.can'the wait for our return
Stunning tasting menu dinner paired with some delicious wines, slick attentive service and superb value, better than some nearby places charging twice as much.
Will return on next visit to Edinburgh..
Very pleasant, but the portions were very small, albeit delicious!
I brought my husband here for his birthday, after reading some very good reviews. We were most delighted with this venue. The food was excellent and the service outstanding. The staff were so calm and helpful and everyone without fail managed a smile and a hello. It makes all the difference.
We were given a glass of bubbly free to say Happy Birthday, and we didn't even know they knew. It was a lovely surprise.
It was just perfect.
We enjoyed a nice meal here. They have great food and offergood service!
everything from start to finish was fantastic. highly recommended
Everything was more than fine, the quality of the food and the service was excellent, if we comeback to Edinburgh we will visit the restaurant again!
For my wife and I this is our first visit to Edinburgh and we were so lucky to find Angels with Bagpipes as a place to celebrate our anniversary. The staff were friendly, attentive and professional and made our evening very special. The food was outstanding and we would highly recommend the haggis starter, the lamb main and the pork main. Great food, great people, great location, great restaurant! If you are in Edinburgh then you must go!
Lovely relaxed lunch in the heart of the Old Town. Food and service were excellent.
Great food. Good service. Not so espansive. Smart location.
I booked this restaurant ahead of our weekend break to Edinburgh to celebrate a birthday. I was initially swayed by the other reviews, menu and details on the website but I have to say that the entire evening surpassed my expectations.
I requested a quiet romantic table for two and we were shown to our own unique dining area upon arrival. It was cosy, private and tastefully decorated in keeping with the restaurant.
Our meals were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. Even the wine and cocktails were top notch.....as was the waitress service. Nothing was too much trouble and our waitress was very unobtrusive - perfect for a romantic dinner on a Friday evening.
We will definitely pay a return visit on our next trip to Edinburgh! Thank you to the Angels with Bagpipes team!
Perfect food, service, atmosphere. Amazing deserts! Highly recommend.
I was visiting Edinburgh for an overnight stay with a friend and wanted to treat him to a special meal for his birthday. I used Tripadvisor to get recommendations and I couldn't have been more delighted that this wonderful restaurant met my expectations. We had different starters and sweets but decided to share the Chateaubriand. Everything was cooked superbly and you could tell it was prepared by somebody who loves what they do! I would definitely go back and definitely recommend it to friends.
Excellent dinner, food was delicious!! Misunderstanding on dessert so we ended up sitting for awhile, but otherwise the food and timing was perfect.
Food was good, varied choice & creative, Deserts were original & tasty. We felt that the wine was very expensive. The restaurant is in a prime location but downstairs feels quite dark with no outlook,
On Scotland trip, this restaurant was recommended. Not disappointed!! On a touristy street, but not at all a touristy restaurant. friendly staff. Excellent food-great taste blends. Watch the fish as completely bony, but such a wonderful taste! Best place we ate in Scotland. Need reservations. Would definitely return
The food was excellent all-round and the service was very good. Reasonably priced too considering the central location.
Perfect night! The food was excellent and the service - brilliant!
My son and daughter bought a £50 voucher for myself and my partner for christmas being the reason we came to restaurant. We had nice meal but both agreed it was a bit out of our price range and too fancy food wise and that we would not have chosen restaurant if we had not had voucher it was a nice experience though.
Wonderful food, service and ambience - loved it!
All in all a great dining experience, couldn't fault anything
Would recommend, will be returning.
We were in Edinburgh for only two nights and celebrated my husbands birthday at the Angels and Bagpipes on one of them. We found the restaurant thanks to the positive reviews on Open Table.
They looked after us really well and had prepared notes on the menu to alert to my husband’s nut allergies. We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble.
Delicious welcoming bubbles on the house was a delightful touch, followed by wonderful cocktails. The meal was delicious, every plate a delight, the stand out dish for us was the pork belly. We have already recommended this restaurant to others who live in the city and will certainly revisit next time we visit. Thank you.
The food was great and the selection and options wide. Staff were attentive professional and helpful. Great location. Highly recommend.
Great food and excellent service. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Great evening at Angels with Bagpipes! Nice atmosphere and top service. Probably the best steak I’ve ever eaten! Highly recommend and would definitely go back!
Everything was incredible
Nice restaurant, friendly staff and the food was excellent, best place I have eaten in Edinburgh so far! Love the name also.
Love Angels, the food is wonderful and the staff are very attentive. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Excellent as usual. IMO best restaurant fish and chips in Edinburgh. Everything else good too. Pleasant staff. Good prices.
