Angels with Bagpipes
Mixing an atmospheric Old Town setting with chic, contemporary looks, the restaurant reflects many of the city’s most defining features. With a humble facade nestled in the beautiful 17th century building, rich tones of bronze and marble cascade throughout the two tiers of Angels with Bagpipes.
Angels with Bagpipe’s kitchen has gained a glowing reputation in a city abundant with restaurants of the highest standards. Sourcing the best produce and ingredients, allowing the quality to shine through their elegant dishes. By blending innovative and traditional techniques, their menu is fresh and exciting throughout all seasons
Delicious food, friendly well trained staff, lovely ambience . Seasonal lunch menu is great value. Excellent.
The food, the ambience, the service were all amazing.
We had a fantastic dinner on New Year's Day. We nearly didn't book here because they only had a table from 9pm, but very glad we did! Everything we ordered was delicious, which says a lot since we all ordered different main courses and pudding. Highly recommended.
Great staff and good food , can’t fault at all
The food and drinks were absolutely fabulous! The only little negative was that the food came very quickly after each other.
The food was amazing!! I would highly recommend anyone who appreciates fine dining to go there. We will definitely be back
Given its location we were concerned that this restaurant might be too geared for tourists, but we were pleasantly surprised. Nice atmosphere and we all enjoyed the food - need to specifically mention the venison which was fab.
Located in the High Street (Royal Mile), the prices are slightly on the high side circa £60 per head with wine, but it was a great way to start the New Year celebrations, and we could actually talk to one another often not the case in many restaurants given the décor.
Staff friendly and helpful, albeit towards the end of the meal this got slower, but perhaps this was because it was nearing midnight and I am sure that they had been working hard all evening.
The food was outstanding. It was fresh, cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The wine list suited our taste, and our meal. Water was topped up several times during the meal which was good. I would certainly recommend this restaurant. Very slightly dissapointed with the bright lights and lack of any clasical ambiance but this did not detract from us really enjoying our evening as the music was just quietly in the background which we appreciated.
The food and service was very good but the actual restaurant is very boring. Not much decoration or any nice feel. Reminds you a little of a chain restaurant
Brilliant as always, nothing too much trouble. Thank you.
We went for a meal in New Year’s Eve. The restaurant had a lovely feel to it. The staff wheee dressed in Scottish outfits which was great. The food was lovely. Would defiantly go back again.
Excellent service and food, we will go again and again
Wine list was extremely poor. Food was good though. Disappointed that another guest was allowed to sit on the floor with his children!
It was our first time there and food, service atmosphere was lovely. Thanks to all your friendly staff.
Very pleasant evening in a relaxed atmosphere. Food was first class as was the service
The tasting menu was great, the Shepard’s pie was amazing
Great service I recommend that you get a reservation because if you were to just go there you have to eat in the crowded place. Oyster wasn’t the best but haggis and steaks were awesome and desert was just perfect.
Wonderful as always! Thanks to the staff and chef.
A very enjoyable experience, great food excellent service.
Another divine evening in the company of Angels. We decided to treat ourselves to a pre Christmas treat and what a good decision that was! The food is so good. So tasty. Beautifully cooked with care. Service is exceptional. Angels remains our favourite restaurant in Edinburgh. Heavenly.
Very nice people and attentive service to be sure. But it is overpriced and the food is pretentious, to say the least. There was nothing festive or celebratory about the three-course “Festive Dinner” menu we ordered. A lot of foam and dressed-up garnishing passing as real food. Would be a nice place to enjoy dinner if it advertised what it actually is. Don’t go to this restaurant with an appetite , rather, have a sandwich or some protein before leaving home!
Great food - I had haggis and venison. Husband had haggis and steak. Venison was so well good. Haggis was amazing. Really good venue and price for city centre. Staff were great too. Would highly recommend.
A favourite of ours. Always sure of great food and terrific service
First visit.Excellent food and fantastic service from staff.Lovely decor & great location.
Disappointed with this restaurant. The street level dining area looked very basic - like a converted living room! No ambient lighting, candles and lacking style and sophistication which you would expect for a high-end restaurant. Starter wasn't great (Goats Cheese Mousse). Main of Venison was much better. Service was very pleasant. Expensive for the overall experience and I would not go back.
Excellent food, great ambience and the service was first class.
Whilst the food was excellent, I was disappointed with where we were sitting and for the past two years on my birthday we have been given a free glass of prosecco and they even sang Happy birthday to me, but this time, I felt something like an intruder, and my birthday wasn't recognised this time, even though I mentioned it on the website. I wonder if it has been taken over by someone else; or if they have stopped doing the free birthday drink and making you feel special. Still the food was good.
Food was amazing, services was amazing (By a lovely New Zealand girl and another young gentleman) and loved the atmosphere. Small place that makes if feel rather personal. Only criticism was the portions was quite small.. we had a starter, main, two sides and a desert and still had to get something to eat afterwards. But that would not stop me. The venison was delicious! Didn’t expect the beetroot to compliment it as much as it did! And the chocolate sponge was mouth watering!
Excellent Christmas lunch, amazing tastes and just the right amount of food
Great food excellent location and dining rooms
We tried the Tasting Menu, paired with wines. Very tasty and enjoyable.
Beautifully presented food with new tastes to try.
Service was excellent and non-intrusive.
A little noisy but not ridiculously so.
Food lovely, I would say just a little over priced but I do appreciate it’s on the royal mile. (£85 for 3 courses each and two soft drinks) very nicely presented. We were placed in a small room with 3 big tables which meant I couldn’t hear my husband sometimes it was so loud, we had asked for a nicely situated table as we were there for a special occasion. I hate to be negative but the waiter we had did the bare minimum and had no enthusiasm about him I would expect better service in a place like this. He didn’t even smile. I probably won’t return as it wasn’t anything special and I had been so desperate to go for years. This is a real shame but I think placing couples in a different area from large groups would be much nicer. However it’s a nice place and it didn’t disappoint just didn’t see the hype.
Great, friendly service with excellent food in a lovely setting
This was our second trip to Edinburgh in 2 years and the second visit to Angel with Bagpipes. After an excellent experience the first time, our expectations were obviously high. Suffice to say that our expectations were met before, during and after the meal.
The initial greeting was warm and friendly. the service first class and the food delicious. We were not hurried and able to enjoy the food, drink and atmosphere at our own pace. A warm and friendly thank you and good bye as we left put the seal on a very enjoyable evening. We will certainly be back to see more of Edinburgh (what a great city) and sample the delights from Angels with Bagpipes.
Had a fabulous christmas lunch here. Food was exceptional and service fantastic. Would highly recommend this restaurant
Food top notch with great service - what more could you ask for. I love this place for a special meal
Food and meal were fantastic, should add here the ala carte food was tremendous, however restaurant let itself down in a big way for us.
The Christmas fixed menu was not given to us, when we asked about it we were told that entire party had to eat off it or not at all - why????
If we came in as three tables of two any couple could have eaten off it.
This simply felt like AWB wanted to maximise our spend rather than focussing on the customer.
The last time my wife and I were in we were able to mix and match. So this seemed to be a change in policy - change it back is my tip.
There are loads of places to eat in Edinburgh and this experience means I won’t be booking again in a hurry.
The food was amazing as well as the cosy surroundings. Not over crammed with tables. It was the service and attentiveness of the staff that made our dining experience so memorable. The staff are giving a first class service. Professional and attentive. Would highly recommend and the location is so easy to get to. 5 mins walk from Waverley station.
The welcome from staff was fantastic, the tasting menu and wine were superb. Service brilliant.
