Angels with Bagpipes
Mixing an atmospheric Old Town setting with chic, contemporary looks, the restaurant reflects many of the city’s most defining features. With a humble facade nestled in the beautiful 17th century building, rich tones of bronze and marble cascade throughout the two tiers of Angels with Bagpipes.
Angels with Bagpipe’s kitchen has gained a glowing reputation in a city abundant with restaurants of the highest standards. Sourcing the best produce and ingredients, allowing the quality to shine through their elegant dishes. By blending innovative and traditional techniques, their menu is fresh and exciting throughout all seasons
This was my second visit - ten year gap! But if I lived closer this would be a regular place for me. Firstly lovely staff - secondly food of the highest standard - worthy of a Michelin star - in my opinion . We had the tasting menu with wine- the quality was outstanding ! Could not recommend this place highly enough.
Amazing tasting menu and beautiful wine, had a great evening and would highly recommend
Outstanding service and great food. Loved every bit of it and will be back...
The atmosphere of the restaurant was really comfortable and the food and service was exquisite. The best fillet steak I've had.
Fantastic food and service. Highly recommend
Lovely food, great service. I would have liked to see more of a selection of sides for my steak
A most enjoyable evening with no pressure and courteous staff.
Excellent food & service . The only thing was the gentlemen of the party thought the portions were on the small side. Apart from that we had a fab night
The food and service was excellent
The venison just melted in my mouth
The staff were so lovely and the food was incredible. Myself and my mum had a brilliant time and I've been recommending already!
The only small point I would say is that the toilets could have been a bit nicer for the price and location but they were clean so it's a very minor point.
Another amazing meal in angels with bagpipes. Consistently excellent food and service and we recommend to friends too
Food was amazing, great location, went at 3 so was very quiet
Lovely meal, friendly staff, what's not to like? My customers who came up from England had a lovely time.
The food is extremely tasty, first time at this restaurant but will return next year.
What a complete disappointment this restaurant was. From the horribly lit back room which felt detached from the restaurant (with tables positioned in corners and against walls to fit as many into the grim little space as possible) to the lack-lustre food that was horribly overpriced this restaurant was something of a disaster.
The menu is tiny and they have the cheek to try and pass a selection of it off as 'tasting menu' - utter nonsense.
I chose this restaurant based on other peoples good reviews but the experience I had was dire.
The only reason I didn't complain at the time was that the staff were clearly doing their best, but will certainly not be returning. Save your time and money and go somewhere else.
The quality of the food was absolutely exceptional. The staff were very professional and very attentive. We did not feel at any time uncomfortable. The atmosphere was very relaxed. We would recommend Angels with Bagpipes to any of our friends.
Having visited a few times this place never disappoints. It’s always a lovely ambience with great food and service.
We enjoyed the service and surroundings however, the food was disappointing.
Most definitely be back staff are a credit to this establishment
My husband and I went for a late Valentine meal and chose different menues. My husband ordered a steak and I ordered fish. Their food is fine dining and well presented. The choice is special and we had 2 courses each with wine. This is a very good place for couples with romance in mind. Very enjoyable.
Thankfully had the set lunch menu....food was presented well...we were well looked after but still hungry after....very small portions...especially the main meal....more veg rather than a half carrot would be good ...maybe I'm not into fine dining...not sure we will be back.....very very quiet on saturday
My kids bought it for my Birthday. It’s the third occasion I have dined here. Every time has been outstanding. Thank you
Excellent, friendly and helpful service.
Interesting menu with a few surprises.
Food looks beautiful and tastes delicious.
Venison was moist and tender with great taste.
Sorrel sorbet was a wonderful surprise.
Delicious food and great friendly service. My gluten free needs were very well catered for and the whole evening was a real treat. I recommend the ribeye steak!
Wonderful lunch at this lovely place, so glad we found it’s discreet entrance in the royal mile. We had 3 course set lunch which was amazing quality for the price. Choice of three for each course but they do a la carte too if desired. I chose smoked salmon pate with crisp breads which was very light and flavoursome. Husband had beef carpaccio which was very tender and had super dabs of sauce and herbs. His chicken main was one of the best he’s ever had. My risotto with goats cheese and beetroot sounded odd but worked superbly, the beetroot cutting through the richness of the cheese. Usually never have pudding but we both did as the standard had been so high. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable but not overbearing. It was very quiet but ambiance was very restful with nice view over the courtyard. Only slight issue was I felt very cold but that may partly have been watching the squally weather outside influencing me. We ate at Kitchin the next day and although it was all v smart I much preferred the food at Angels. Recommend to anyone looking for clever unfussy cooking presented without pretension.
The food was wonderful, we had lamb loin and venison which were both cooked to perfection.
Atmosphere was just right so you could speak without feeling conscious other people could hear you but you didn't have to shout.
Service was excellent and the staff were attentive. I requested the dessert from the special wine flight menu instead of the a la carte menu which did not cause a problem as would do in some restaurants!
Excellent restaurant with attentive staff. Food was of good quality, lovely quiet ambiance.
Starter was far too salty, the rest of the food was outstanding, it was just a pity the side dishes came after the main which was pretty impractical..
Amazing food and great service.
After hearing so many things about this restaurant I decided to try it with my partner , the lady who took us to our table wasn’t looking very happy because we arrived earlier than our booking . We ordered two cocktails the coconut one was ok the one with the tequila and black currant I would recommend you take it off the menu as the price makes it a total rip off. My partners risotto was very salty same with the mash potato that we were not able to finish. The sprouts were not tasting any of the cream just boring flavor. The fish and chips was nice. Service from the two waitresses was good. Wouldn’t return .
Service was okay but not especially good considering it wants to be a fine dining experience. the food was frankly forgettable. My wife had the Ribeye, over cooked from medium rare and under seasoned. I had the sole witch was bland. We have eaten at over 30 Michelen starred restaurants but we are not food snobs and don't mind a good pub, grill or basket of wings so it's all about the food and the quality of it regardless of any ratings but this was really just a forgettable meal. Too bad because it was Valentines day.
Great lunch first class food and wine ! Th quality of the ingredients and overall ambience was great.
We had the most fantastic meal and service was impeccable.
We would highly recommend this restaurant it’s faultless
We will be returning x
Very chilled atmosphere but not too quiet, food was very nice and portions didn’t leave you hungry. Staff were very friendly and professional.
Fantastic meal and service for a Valentine’s Day treat with my wife. Lovely food, nice ambience. Would return and recommend.
Delicious, friendly & great value. I’ll be back!
Incredible - Highly recommend. This was my second time at Angles with Bagpipes and I can't wait to be back in Edinburgh to visit again.
As expected. A special restaurant with a very good menu. In the old part of the city and would happily return.
Got this as a Christmas gift, staff were very attentive and pleasant. Food was excellent ,portions just right.
Always choose tasting menu with matching wine. Pairing never fails with exceptional service.
