Angels with Bagpipes
Mixing an atmospheric Old Town setting with chic, contemporary looks, the restaurant reflects many of the city’s most defining features. With a humble facade nestled in the beautiful 17th century building, rich tones of bronze and marble cascade throughout the two tiers of Angels with Bagpipes.
Angels with Bagpipe’s kitchen has gained a glowing reputation in a city abundant with restaurants of the highest standards. Sourcing the best produce and ingredients, allowing the quality to shine through their elegant dishes. By blending innovative and traditional techniques, their menu is fresh and exciting throughout all seasons
In general, I would say it's over rated and over priced. I ordered a filet that was fine but not outstanding. I ordered it rare and it was medium at best. It came with a little basket of french fries and some greens sprinkled on top for £34. My friend order a ribeye that was full of gristle. We've had much better meals for much less.
Had a very nice meal and enjoyed the whole experience would recommend the SetLunch Menu
The place was cozy but the highlight of it all was the food. It was outstanding!
If you are looking for good food (not touristic one) inthe middle of the main touristic mile, this is your place. But keep in mind that it is not extraordinary food, and it is a bit pricy
Excellent food both in taste and design/presentation. Portions were very small though. Staff were very pleasant and efficient.
This was our 5th visit to this lovely restaurant. The food is always excellent.
As I'd received a voucher for my Birthday, we booked a table for 2 and had a 3 course lunch. Not sure I would have visited Angels with Bagpipes without the voucher to be honest but we are so glad we went, it was one of the best lunches we have had, every course was delicious, the staff were courteous and it was a greatly dining experience. Highly recommended.
The food was amazing and the staff were lovely. Our party of 5 really enjoyed the dining experience and will definitely return as soon as possible!!
A lovely restaurant - fantastic food and very attentive staff. You couldn't want for more.
|We booked at Angels with Bagpipes as it was highly recommended by our daughter, an entirely justifiable recommendation. We chose the seasonal lunch menu, which was exceptionally good value. The menu choices were very well thought out and the food wonderful. Service was very attentive, but not obtrusive. All in all one of the highlights of our visit to Edinburgh.
Thoroughly enjoyed our evening here , food was delicious and service excellent .
They is a wonderful place. Our courses were all superb. The atmosphere is romantic and the staff is attentive. Do not miss.
Fantastic food & service. The flavour from our fillet steaks was beautiful
We were able to catch an outside table which really added to our experience! The food was so tasty, beautifully plated and the service was outstanding! Make sure to get an outdoor table!
Nice food in a nice setting in the heart of Edinburgh.
Service was polite and attentive
Another sublime evening of heavenly food and wonderful service.
Traveling on vacation. Very comfortable eating there alone. Everything was delicious. Helpful wait staff.
This is a charming little restaurant with surprising views out on to a huge airy courtyard. We were warmly welcomed and all staff were friendly and attentive. We opted for the set menu which was great value for money and offered a really nice choice. I had chicken terrine followed by a beautiful pork shoulder dish and finished with a sublime strawberry, honey and ginger crowdie. Can’t wait for our next visit.
Amazing food. We had the taster menu but all the food we saw being served looked delicious.
Great atmosphere and a hidden gem on the Royal Mile.
The welcoming was quite strange - the hostess asked how can she help us... Sitting was quite dissapointing next to the door, despite the fact that we made a reservation and there were better tables available.
Nevertheless, the food was excellent, and we had a lovely dinner. The wines we found quite expensive and of limited choice.
Fabulous restaurant with amazing food, beautifully presented from starter to dessert. Friendly service and lovely cosy ambience. We are visiting Edinburgh next year and will be definitely returning here.
Fish dish was bit disappointing but haggis dish was nice and staffs were so kind
It was an amazing dinner! Definitely a place to go back to.
The fixed price lunch menu was excellent value, and the staff were pleasant and attentive.
We had a wonderful meal, the food was excellent, atmosphere really good and great service
Separate dining room away from the busy street. Food and wine were great hough wine was a bit too warm, no beerglass
We were there to see the tattoo.
Great food, location and service, would definitely go back
Love eating here and cannot fault the food or service. Always very fresh and seasonal, you never have to wait too long between courses and waiting staff very pleasant and attentive. Unfortunately my evening was marred by the person who decided to not hand in my rings when I accidentally left them at the wash hand basin that evening. Whoever you are, you broke my heart, one was my engagement ring, the other my grandmothers. If you have a change of heart and don’t want all that bad karma upon you, please return them to angels, they have my contact number. I won’t let this put me off returning to such a wonderful restaurant and I recommend you go.
Excellent food, great service and an excellent location to start our day out in Edinburgh. The steak tartare was the best I have had in a very long time and we loved the beetroot molasses with our bread. A nice change from balsamic vinegar. Overall a lovely experience and we look forward to coming again.
Absolutely fantastic service, from the moment you step into the restaurant. Lovely atmosphere, beautiful, delicious and very tasty dishes. All through wonderful experience.
Fabulous evening...meal was superb, service exceptional - staff very attentive and friendly.
A wonderful find in the heart of the city. The staff were very nice , the room we were in was small but you could still have a private conversation, and the food was delicious. All in all great meal .
Great atmosphere and service. Food a bit pricey for what it was but everyone enjoyed themselves.
Third time here and loved it yet again. We had friends from the US who wanted to go to the tattoo so the restaurant is ideally situated for a quick walk to the castle. We did exactly the same thing last year.
The food was excellent and service was faultless!
Definitely recommend and we will be back next time we’re in Edinburgh!
The food was very very good. The attention of the personel was not Always as is shout be in aa restaurant like this. At the end of our diner we had to ask several times for the bil. The noise in the restaurant was a bit too much and the staff did nothing about is. Price-quality was good.
Not a fine dining restaurant; over priced and under- performed. Food very average. Manageress frosty ! Avoid!
My partner and I had the Tasting Menu - and what a bargain that was!
Although, I opted to stay on the softer drinks, my partner had it with the matching wines.
Food quality and presentation was sublime....considering this was at the height of Festival time, the quality was superb, (unlike some restaurants who charged more for poorer service and food).
The staff were polite, efficient and not over-bearing....good product knowledge too and a huge thanks for helping me with my dietary requirement.
Food service was super quick! Well done to Chef and his brigade - for me, this showed discipline and excellent management skills to pull off in a very busy restaurant.
My only point that I would like to raise, and again it's my observation and experience, is that there was a table of 4 who sat behind me, (they came in at ~8pm), and I felt for the intimate space for the diners, some of their behaviour and language used was a little 'out of order'. For me, the restaurant manager could have asked them to tone it down, if she was vigilant, however I did notice that she had quite a lengthy jovial chat to another table of 4. Whilst I understand these are busy times, (and maybe it was addressed after we left), however for me, when there is clearly more maturer dinner guests, then having others remembering where they are (and acknowledge their surrounds), doesn't take much.
By doing so, it allows everyone to enjoy the experience....
Comfortable environment despite all the bustle from The Fringe. Food very good too. Rather limited wine list.
Food and venue were good - service was disappointing and quite abrupt
