Angels with Bagpipes
Mixing an atmospheric Old Town setting with chic, contemporary looks, the restaurant reflects many of the city’s most defining features. With a humble facade nestled in the beautiful 17th century building, rich tones of bronze and marble cascade throughout the two tiers of Angels with Bagpipes.
Angels with Bagpipe’s kitchen has gained a glowing reputation in a city abundant with restaurants of the highest standards. Sourcing the best produce and ingredients, allowing the quality to shine through their elegant dishes. By blending innovative and traditional techniques, their menu is fresh and exciting throughout all seasons
Poor value for money for what it was. We did the tasting menu with wine pairing and it was the first time I’ve left hungry after a tasting menu. Pay serious premium for royal mile location and this is a tourist trap.
Wonderful food, great service , thoroughly recommend
Fantastic food and friendly staff
Absolutely amazing place with the friedliest of staff. Cannot fault the food and everything down to the presentation was of a high standard. The ambience of the restaurant was just perfect. Whether your looking for a nice family meal or a romantic evening, Angels with Bagpipes caters your needs.
I would highly recommend Angels with Bagpipes and will definitely be back soon!
Again such a wonderful experience for our family. The food was fantastic. The service was outstanding. Thank you to the amazing team
The food was top-notch! I chose the tasting menu with paired wines and it was fantastic! The staff was attentive and courteous. The menu was creative and savory. Delicious. I would recommend this restaurant as a treat if you are looking for a quiet dinner. It can be a little pricey, but you get a lot for the price. Loved this place.
Delicious food with great service in a quiet romantic surrounding. If you want top class food with A1 service this is the place to go; worth paying that little more for.
A very nice diner with an amazing association between wines & food.
A great moment for a french family who have an experience of "Michelin" stars restaurants.
Very good balance for the global management of the time for this super menu of New Year.
Effective & professional service.
We ate here on New Year's eve and everything was absolutely perfect. The food was possibly the best we have ever tasted and the staff were professional, friendly and knowledgeable.
We would definitely eat here again.
A lovely quaint, cosy, friendly restaurant to enjoy beautiful surroundings, fantastic food and personal friendly serving staff. We can’t express how much we enjoyed our New Year’s Eve meal here. We weren’t rushed at all and the staff that served us couldn’t help us enough. I’m sure we’ll be back
Beautiful food, very well presented. Lovely relaxed ambience. Perfect for a date night, lunch with friends or a special occasion with family. Unhurried service. Great cocktails too. Highly recommended.
Lugar agradable, el problema es que son un poco lentos sirviendo. Buena comida.
Some of the best food we had in Edinburgh! Staff was so lovely and friendly as well. I can’t remember our waiter’s name unfortunately, but he was fantastic and made sure we were satisfied with our meal!
Food was nice but we could only choose from the lunch menu which was quite limited and not from a la carte menu. This was not clearly indicated on their web page.
Food and drinks were good. Service was relaxed but attentive. We had a great time there. Even though we had a bad surprise from the beginning while we passed through the corridor going to the toilet (and the toilet itself). Floor, carpets, doors... all dirty !
Another wonderful evening spent in the company of Angels. All four of us loved every aspect of the meal, beautifully presented, taste off-the-scale yum. Service is always spot-on, friendly but never intrusive. Cannot wait for our next visit.
Fabulous food, friendly and welcoming staff, combined with excellent service I had the beef tartare which was sublime followed by the Venison a true Meat lovers dream!!
We had a very pleasant evening with good food and wine. The staff were friendly and efficient. The seating was comfy with reasonable space.
Just beautiful, from start to finish. What an experience x
Enjoyed our silver wedding here. Food was great, and particularly appreciated Luciano who was extremely friendly and attentive without being too intrusive. This guy admirably represents the face of the restaurant. An asset to Angels with Bagpipes. He found out it was our 25th, and came in with a complementary dessert, which was a lovely touch. Food was great, and loved the environment. Really look forward to visiting this place again. Thanks to all who made our evening really special. Very classy without being stuck up. Perfect balance.
Definitely a must. Fabulous food, friendly staff. X
Myself and my husband travelled from Preston to Edinburgh for the weekend for a special occasion and I’d requested via email a social table. Upon entering I was unsure as it’s charm is subtle however when they showed us to a cosy romantic private dining area called the halo room I was made up it was so romantic and secluded and the staff couldn’t do enough. We had a complimentary glass of posecco upon arrival and the food was very creative and cooked to perfection. They provided small extras that made the venue stand out such as truffles with coffee after the meal. Really happy with my choice and would teccamend for couples the ambience is lovely!
Having our birthday lunches at Angels with Bagpipes, this restaurant is mine and my husband's guilty pleasure. It has an understated elegance with its gentle music and unobtrusive serving staff, who are always polite and friendly.
From the very first glass of prosecco, with a 'welcome back' greeting, to the beautiful festive food and a candle in my Christmas pudding to make a wish on my birthday; to the very last goodbye - I adore this place. It is my guardian angel with bagpipes on. We love it!
The angel with bagpipes is a carving in St Giles Cathedral, opposite the restaurant and I purchased a wooden angel with bagpipes as a reminder of my favourite eating place in the whole world.
My birthday wish, is that I have many more birthdays at this gorgeous restaurant.
Wow - totally stunning meal - recommend to anyone - nothing to improve at all
Lovely cocktails and just scrumptious meals
Congratulations to the chefs
Fantastic food - brilliant, skilled & professional service - 3 course mouthwatering dinner & drinks for £50pp, amasing vfm.
We have been before as visitors to Edinburgh and thought it very good indeed. This visit was different. Waiter was fussy and impossible to follow and service started well e.g. selling drinks and then became slow. No free bread and no amuse bouche. My beef was not hot enough and the composition of the dish was too dry - direly in need of gravy of some type. Not asked if we wanted coffee so went elsewhere. The noise level was totally unacceptable. No return visit from us!!
Wonderful lunch. Had the 3 course menu. Not a lot of choice but all our dishes were great. Had a wonderful Australian Shiraz. Such a smooth finish and good price at £27. Ambiance was lovely and our waiter was very attentive. This is my 3rd visit and never been disappointed.
Will definitely return to this gem. Was there to celebrate my husband's big birthday which I didd mention when I booked, they were so kind to present us lovely glass of fizz on arrival on the house, it is those small details which make it memorable. The staff were very attentive and lovely throughout the evening.
The food was top class, we shared a chateaubriand which couldn't be faulted.
Our dinner experience at Angels was really great, the food was of outstandig quality. Would definitely recommend.
Absolutely gorgeous restaurant which I would definitely go back to if I’m ever in Edinburgh! We had the haggis to start which was DELICIOUS, and I then had the best salmon that I have ever had in my life - it literally melted in the mouth. We were too full for desert, but we got the cheese board anyway, which was lovely too.
We picked the recommended wine which was stunning.
Literally a perfect night, I couldn’t fault it!
The food is, quite simply, superb. Buying the potatoes and vegetables separately though is something I’m never particularly fond of, so I personally would find fault with that. I would just rather have the choice while ordering my main course. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The pace of the service throughout the meal was perfect for me and my wife. The food was beautifully presented. If you are looking for huge portions, you’ll be disappointed, but if you are after high quality food, you will be hard pushed to find better. We had a starter, main course, and then we shared a pudding and cheese board. All of this was washed down with a really pleasant bottle of red wine. I would, no actually I will, eat here again. Aside from me wanting a couple more spuds (I’m a big chap) the meal was a truly great one. The bill was commensurate with the quality, but not unreasonable either. We left angels with bagpipes very happy!
Having booked through OpenTable we arrived 5 minutes early, to be sat at a table which I can only describe as being half in the corridor and half adjoining another table. We asked if we could be moved to be told no. We asked for our coats and advised that we would be leaving as the table was unacceptable to be told we could pick from 3 other tables.
The waiter at our second table was excellent. Our starter (we both had haggis) was delicious, but rather small and nothing like the image shown on the OpenTable website.
Then the Main event. We ordered the Chateaubriand, which is one of our favourite dishes. What was brought to the table was some already sliced steak, that, although no doubt from a fillet as unbelievably tough. The waiter was advised of the situation and returned them to the kitchen.
Neither the chef or management came to discuss the issue, I then went to find the waiter to advise that we would be leaving. He then asked if we would like to order something else, which we declined and asked if he had told anyone of the issue. He replied that he had told his manager but she was busy in the office and therefore could not speak to us.
This infuriated us and so we demanded that they speak to us, upon arriving at our table, the manager denied having been told of the issue and stated that the waiter should not have tried to handle this on their own (either way, this should not be the customers issue). The manager did appear to be genuinely disturbed that our experience had been so bad.
This restaurant has a great deal of potential and a number of other customers appeared to be enjoying their dining experience - just not us.
When asked if we would return, there are too many great restaurants we can go to so we would not spend time going back to one that didn’t make the mark.
Enjoyed our visit for a Sunday lunch date. We had Chateaubriand which was good really well, we went for medium rare and weren’t disappointed. Deserts also excellent. Would recommend and go back.
Lovely restaurant. The food was amazing. The staff were nice and friendly. Would highly reccommend it.
Travelled with work colleagues for a day trip to the Christmas markets. Recommended by ‘Gluten Free Edinburgh’ as one friend anaphylactic with wheat, gluten, oats, fish the list goes on. Italian Waiter very attentive and knowledgeable about menu and checked everything with her. Menu not cheap but absolutely gorgeous food. Only problem was having to pass hatch where cooking is done as her last attack was by airborne wheat. A lovely place to visit for a special meal.
Great food but portions could have been bigger
Food was a bit disappointing as the festive meal (turkey) was tough and cod was a bit bland. However, the fish was fresh.
Lekker eten, nx speciaals, de prijs is mss iets te hoog...
Wasn’t happy at all considering the price of the food. For a start we were not given all the menus so it was almost like they just wanted more money from us because they only gave us the most expensive menu. We had to ask for the set menu. These little things should not happen .
Really nice restaurant, the food was fantastic great service. Had our wedding anniversary here, nice touch was the complementary drink with our sweet. Would definitely recommend for that special occasion.
