The food was excellent, the atmosphere also, the wine was expensive.
Really enjoyed the taster menu - as a special occasion it was fun and both delicious and beautifully presented. All courses were very good, and the lamb was excellent.
Restaurant was a stone’s throw from our hotel which worked well in windy rainy Edinburgh! Food was of high quality and nicely presented. A good mixture of Scottish cuisine with modern gourmet food. Would definitely return there in the future.
Lovely meal and atmosphere for our date night, we will be back
Everythind was fine, eood was excellent and service went smoothly. Environment was beuatyful. Only too much noise time to time.
Second visit to this restaurant and once again the meal was delicious. This time we had booked for the early set menu as we had tickets for an event in the evening. Service was excellent. Starters were great. The twelve hour braised beef for the main course was a little dry but very tasty. We had cheese and biscuits to follow and then coffee. We asked for fresh cream with the coffee, this was no problem and made it a treat. Would definitely recommend Angels with Bagpipes.
We have visited this restaurant on several occasions and the food is extremely good. What let’s the place down is the attitude of the staff. To say they are haughty is an understatement. Not a single smile in the building. They literally vacuumed the ambiance out of the room! Even a 20% tip didn’t make the staff happy. If you’re thinking of celebrating here don’t bother...... you will leave feeling depressed! Brilliant menu and talented chefs let down by awful table staff.
Beautiful restaurant. Great ambience, not too loud, so actually able to hear everyone at the table speaking.
Food was absolutely delicious, excellent service. Would highly recommend.
Excellent as usual- one of our favourites afor lunch in Edinburgh
Amazing food and service. Had the tasting menu. Can’t wait to go back.
Had a weekend in Edinburgh and we had this recommended to us by a man who was local. Very nice food.
The restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. We weren't disappointed. The food was second to none - cooking is our hobby and we will criticise food at any opportunity, but the food here was fantastic. Lovely parfait and sea bass for starters (very unusual sea bass dish). Fillet steak for mains, cooked to perfection with gorgeous chips. The wine list was extensive and the wine we picked was beautiful. Dessert, I chose the chocolate option with tarragon ice cream. The ice cream was too highly flavoured with tarragon which is a strong flavoured herb any way. The girl who served us was great, although we were disappointed to see staff standing around in the corridor when we were trying to order a drink, leaving our server to rush around the restaurant serving everybody. Lovely cosy restaurant, beautiful wine and food - we will definitely visit again.
We had previously seen the restaurant on a visit to Edinburgh but unfortunately it was booked up so didn’t get a table. We kept it in mind and subsequently pre-booked upon our return.
The restaurant have a beautiful ambiance and relaxing vibe. The service was quick and the waitress was very knowledgable about the wines etc.
We had the chateaubriand it was amazing, cooked to perfection! The veg and sauces were fantastic too. Could not fault the food at all! We have a new favourite restaurant!
We enjoyed a tasteful lunch with clients and were all impressed by the service and quality of food served. One person who took our orders and served some food did not smile or sound as cheerio as everyone else, which did bring the experience from a five to four star level. Overall good though and loved the foods and peaceful setting.
Really lovely little restaurant, with great service and a nice ambience. We had the tasting menu (4 courses) which was really very good. Beautifully presented food, sensible portion sizes bang on for a 4 course dinner, with paired wines. I thought the paired wines were the weaker part of the package / experience, but at £60 head (for and wine) you can't really complain. £12.50 for a champagne cocktail was a bit steep, but like all restaurants they need to make money somewhere. We will be back.. really enjoyed it.
Food, service and atmosphere was excellent! Well done to all!
Amazing food and service once again. This time we visited for the lunchtime menu, which is very good value. Enjoyed every mouthful.
Service was excellent and very attentive, can't wait to return
Cooking is great. Use great local ingredient. The herring and the lamb I had was very well done. The wine list has good selection. Centrally located on the Royal Mile. A great place for any dinning occasion.
Best meal we experienced in Scotland. Great dining experience we had the four course menu.
The food was amazing, everything was carefully prepared and designed. We appreciated this restaurant was quiet as we were celebrating a birthday and we wanted to have group conversation. The service did not meet our expectations though, I reckon that it was the last shift for dinner so the kitchen was a little slow and the waitress remind us like 3 times that we had to leave by 11pm.
The food was excellent and I would recommend it very much. My only complaint would be that I was told we had been given a booth but were put on a table down stairs which was frankly lacking in atmosphere.
Excellent 4 course tasting menu, we were able to swap in vegetarian courses when preferred. The roasted cauliflower and couscous exceeded expectations and was absolutely delicious. The chocolate ganache with orange and honeycombe was really rich and decadent, gorgeous! We finished with coffee and petit fours. All in all a fab meal.
Very, very impressed by the value of their tasting menu which was courses for £40, and £60 if you did the wine pairing. Everyone at the table must have the menu but it was great for all of us so we tried it. The courses were a ham terrine, grilled salmon, lamb cutlets and a creamy chocolate truffle-like cake. The food was outstanding, creative but not 'over-the-top'. This is a nice restaurant for all ages - my mother loved it, I did too and there were quite a few tables of young couples in the restaurant as well. I can see why it is included in the Michelin Guide.
This place was recommended to us and we were not disappointed. The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and the ambience is really nice. I will definitely return here to eat when I next visit Edinburgh. Thanks you for such an experience.
Amazing place and did a great job accommodating for our anniversary. The lamb and chicken were some of the best meals we’ve ever had. The haggis is amazing too. I’d recommend to anyone looking for a good meal.
My wife and I are foodies from New York City and we were very pleasantly surprised by the wonderful meal that we had at Angels With Bagpipes. The service was professional, friendly, and helpful. Our dinners were outstanding. The menu was diverse and the chef was creative. This is a very special place to enjoy a fine dining experience.
My mum and I were in Edinburgh for a few days and friends had recommended this restaurant to me. I was a little anxious when they rang a couple of weeks before to say that a large group had booked two separate tables and would be dining at the same time as us (the group had not notified the restaurant that they were all together and the restaurant only found out when they rang to check). However, we were already well through our meal when they turned up and it was really good of the restaurant to warn us - they gave us the option of booking another day but we were fine. The restaurant gave my mum and I a glass of Prosecco on the house to apologise for the inconvenience which I thought was really nice. The food is excellent and the staff are attentive without being in your face. So the reason for the 4 stars on ambiance and noise level is purely about the group. However the restaurant is very cosy and small so on days when there are just tables of 2 and 4 it would be a great place to go for a family or romanic dinner.
Simple but wonderful quality. Great value and great wine. The best meal I had while in Edinburgh.
We walked in and were greeted by all staff in a friendly, warm manner and seated immediately. Upon ordering wine, the waitress recommended an alternate wine and had the knowledge to explain why it was preferred over our original request. The food came out fast, but not too fast, and was delicious. Although slightly pricey, we would highly recommend this place over other restaurants we had visited in the area.
Great service, well cooked and beautifully presented food. Lovely ambience
Considering the position very good food at reasonable price. Attentive staff, comfortable seats, table on the small side, well cooked imaginative food, wine list brief but if the Brouilly anything to go by excellent.
The food here was adequate. It was disappointing that part of it came cold. The wine here is expensive although they do have a good range. The service however was quite weak......why not leave the water jug on the table? Kept having to ask to be topped up. Also 3 pieces of bread between two. Make it an even number! I wouldnt say dont go here, but if you are going to spend £50 per head (including wine) you can probably fine better value in the city
Great place for a celebration lunch. Nice food and good service. Right in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. First visit but would go again!
Das Restaurant der Service und natürlich das Essen haben uns super gut gefallen bzw geschmeckt! Können wir auf jeden Fall weiter empfehlen!
Food is amazing!! Haggis starter is a serious winner. No haggis in the city compared. Not forgetting the salmon main.....TO DIE FOR!
The atmosphere was beautiful and service was excellent. The wine selections were fantastic!
Travelers from California and had a great dinner. Creative combinations and good food pairings. Service was great and people were fun.
Eaten here twice and both times exceptional food and service.
Inventive and well presented food.
Would highly recommend this restaurant.
This was the best restaurant we went to on our honeymoon. The food was absolutely amazing and so were the drinks. If we return to Scotland we will come back here!
Great food. All four of us enjoyed every mouthful and raved about the dining experience for days
