Private Dining

Just like its Old Town home, there are plenty of unexpected nooks, overlooking the Cockburn Street steps, the atmospheric Dining Room is at the heart. For more private occasions, the Halo room sits snug above Roxburgh’s Close. Tucked away from the Royal Mile, Chanters is ideal for that celebration.

We went to this restaurant for an early dinner while up in Edinburgh, both the food and the service were
excellent.
It is a nice cosy place in the Royal Mile and we were made very welcome.
I would recommend this restaurant if you are staying in Edinburgh.

We had a wonderful dinner before going to the Military Tattoo. Perfect Location near to the Castle. The Food is absolutely fabulous! Would recommend to pre-book table, because it is always quite full!

The presentation was nice but don't feel we had value for money. The starters were very small and pricey. The main didn't come with the normal accompanying vegetables or potatoes. These were classed as sides you pay extra for. The maitre-d doesn't seem to know who is eating in his restaurant even though he served our starters. I left the table twice and both times on the way back he treated me like I'd just walked in. When paying my bill I was asked how much I wanted to put on my card which sounded like how much are you going to leave as gratuity. Will not be going again any time soon.

Superb three course lunch for 4 with wine, beer & mocktail! Great food and excellent service.

Worked out about £20 more than quick pizza and pud meal at Zizzis next door a few days earlier. Despite being in a completely different league. Highly recommended.

We visited this restaurant for dinner whilst attending the Edinburgh Fringe, having been recommended by friends who are Edfringe regulars. We chose one evening to have a special meal, without having to rush off to attend another show. Great decision. Food was delicious, and beautifully presented. Service was excellent. We all ended up choosing the Chateaubriand for our main courses and found the meat to be beautifully cooked and tender and loved the fact that a certain number of sides were included and could be chosen by us. Panacotta and cheesecake desserts were fantastic. In summary, highly recommend if you are visiting Edinburgh and are looking for somewhere to have a "special" meal.

We had been to the festival and needed a quality dining option on the High Street before the tattoo. Opposite St Giles Cathedral makes it the perfect location. The food was outstanding and is reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

Very good food very well presented with very good service. We had the three course lunchtime menu and thought it was excellent. The staff were attentive and everything ran very smoothly. We enjoyed our "smoky old man" cocktails to start.

One criticism I have, although it did not affect us, is that access to the toilets for any disabled customers was not optimal and the diners at the table nearest that door had to get up several times. Management might have to consider sacrificing a table to improve the situation.

We loved this restaurant. The staff was kind and very accommodating. The ambiance and location on the Royal Mile was charming. The food was delicious and the portions were just right. My husband, in particular, really loved the pressed apple dessert and had never had a dessert like it before.

Pre-theatre supper whilst at The Fringe. It’s not Michelin starred fine dining, but it was good food and we thoroughly enjoyed it!

Enjoyed the set lunch menu very much.
Hough terrine followed by slow cooked lamb were delicious. Sides needed to bulk out the main course but still good value for quality of food and location.

We were so lucky to get reservations for Angels with Bagpipes for our first night in Edinburgh. The food was outstanding, as was the service. We have been impressed over and over with the servers in Scotland. At this restaurant, our recommendation would be the chicken liver parfait, the lamb, and sole with crayfish, and creamed potatoes.

An excellent venue for a cosy dinner with a varied menu and a good selection of wines. The food is well presented and the attention to detail is well observed. The service is tip top and friendly too! Great for special occasions or just a good meal out. If you visit you will not be disappointed.

Excellent dining experience. It has two small dining rooms (up and downstairs) that are comfortable. We had the tasting menu and it was fantastic - a great series of lamb, salmon, and beef in three separate servings all with small sides. The meal culminated with a wonderful chocolate dessert. Not too expensive and a great way to top our your trip to Endiburgh. We highly recommend Angels with Bagpipes.

We wanted to give our friends from Australia a great Scottish eating experience and as we had eaten at Angles with Bagpipes before thought it would be the ideal venue for them to enjoy the best that Scotland has to offer, we were not disappointed everything was excellent.

Excellent food, great ambiance and overall great service. One of those ur waiters was new and a little cold but I think that was due to nerves. The rest of the staff was perfect! The food was 5 star!!! Exceeded our expectations!

Easily the best meal in an 11-day Scotland vacation. Service is spot on, ingredients are fresh and local, and the cocktail vibe is special. Get the table by the door and watch Edinburgh happen before your eyes with Michelin-quality cuisine on your plate. Perfect place to celebrate our daughter’s 18th.

Fantastic food and service, we were 30 minutes early for our reservation and the staff were very understanding and allowed us to take a seat at our table.

My only suggestion would be a set menu for dinner would provide great value as the lunch one looked really tasty.

Good quality food and well presented by someone for an eye to that skill. We had a very enjoyable lunch. We have eaten here before and we will be back although it does take a bit of an effort from our home outside Edinburgh. The waiting staff are attentive and friendly but are not in your face - a nice balance.
