I had been so looking forward to this meal as it had been some time since my last visit and I had built it to my client up as somewhere quite special. Which for the food it undoubtedly is.
Sadly, we were not received with a warm and welcoming smile, more like a School mistresses dressing down for being a 10mins late and were told that our booking had been cancelled.
Luckily it’s the restaurant and terrace we’re half empty so that managed to find us a table on the terrace.
We were then rushed to order the food by a rather impatient waiter who again had the unsmiling, charmless demeanour of the receptionist.
This continued throughout the meal - no sooner had we closed our cutlery our plates whisked away and the next course delivered. Then the dessert menu. Rush, rush, rush - a reason given this time though ‘you are the last table in the restaurant and the pastry chef is waiting only for you’
The champagne unfortunately was served at a much slower pace and we sat with empty glasses on several occasions whilst they decided which waiter should be pouring it for us. Other terrace guests were simply helping themselves!
The food however was exquisite - and certainly did not deserved to be rushed!
And after a change of shift we did eventually get a waiter who seemed happy and was able to engage in a suitably friendly service - smiling and pouring drinks!
Excellent food and service. The sommelier was particularly helpful without pushing his knowledge over one’s taste. I will return
A great gastronomic experience - excellent staff - nothing too much trouble.
I was lucky enough to dine at the Angler again and I was not disappointed. The food is consistently excellent, the tasting menu was absolutely superb and surpassed our expectations.
The service is friendly and polite and the setting allowed easy conversation.
I cant wait to come back!
Had the excellent 6-course tasting menu. It was a quiet evening so atmosphere a bit sombre but it didn't spoil it.
I work and live in the city of London but this restaurant doesn’t feel like a business restaurant at the weekend - it has a nice ambience and suitable for a couples and small group night out. Very nice bar too
Second visit after a very pleasant birthday meal in November. Food really, really good; ambiance lovely. Superb fish, friendly staff, extremely pleasant and helpful sommelier. Lots of interesting wines by the glass, good cocktails and great selection of dessert wines. See you soon!
Great food, great service. Came out starving....the portions were Taster menu size.
Unbelievable cuisine and service. Worth every cent.
Great food and cocktails. The decor is a bit dated but can't fault the service and food :)
Faultless service and impeccable food.
We had the 6-course tasting menu and thoroughly enjoyed every morsel - well done to everyone in the kitchen.
The waiting staff were very thorough and discreet - again, well done to you all.
We will definitely be going back to Angler on our next visit to London.
More formal restaurant with a lovely room, excellent service, Michelin-starred food. Most of what we had was excellent. The crab ravioli as an appetizer was fabulous. My husband loved the halibut but I found that the taste of the sole was drowned out by the heavy sauce. All in all, we enjoyed the dinner while we were on our London getaway.
Really delicious fish based menu, served by friendly and knowledgeable people. Peaceful atmosphere with lots of space between tables. Recommend the tasting menu, loved it
Second time coming here and once again really enjoyed the tasting menu. Great balance of fish and flavours. Very good cocktails and a wonderful dark ale aged in whiskey barrels. Service friendly and efficient. Ambience is a little stiff but then it's in a business hotel.
Exceptional service, staff very knowledgeable about both food and drinks.
Had the 9 course sampler menu, with wine pairing.
Food was very good, balance between food and wine sampling was superb.
Second time at Angler and will definitely return. Service is impeccable and the atmosphere is relaxed and manages to retain a great ambiance without being annoying loud as is the case with some establishments.
The food- devine and the sour dough bread and caramelised butter are a must.
Wonderful service and food
Very good meal-
Very good wait-staff-
We had a wonderful time.
excellent as always food is very good and would recommend it to all fish eaters.
Good central location for lunch in the city and friendly greeting on entrance. Food is good, but not great and once the main course is delivered, all wait staff seemed to disappear. This could be great with just a few changes
Excellent service. Great menus and wines to go with your meal. If you love fish then this is the place to go. Spend time here and try the tasting menu.
Excellent food and service. The King Crab Ravioli is an absolute must have.
We had the Evening Standard menu which may not be a fair test but the overall experience was somewhat under-whelming.
My rabbit starter was fine if a little bland but my wife found the salmon dish too cluggy to finish. However, she enjoyed her pork jowl very much but my haddock dish (a fish pie) was completely overpowered by the cheese and finding any fish was quite a task. Finally, her apple pie was a reasonable size well flavoured but my rhubarb, although tasty, was incredibly small.
We had a number of amuse bouche which were interesting but a combination of the waiter's strong accent and the technical terms used meant we were largely unsure what we were eating.
I had a pleasant Greek wine and the table was served efficiently, and the bill came quickly when requested (once I am ready to leave, I just want to go!) which was good.
Although the restaurant is at the top of the hotel there is no great view, just offices opposite but the surroundings are pleasant and the tables not too close together.
Will I be going again? I don't think so.
Angler raises the bar in the expectation and realisation of food and service. It's not just dinner it's a beautiful experience
Very professional hospitality. Beautiful exquisite foot. Beautiful setting. The set lunch menu is fantastic value for £30.
Wonderful meal with my family at Angler on Tuesday evening. The food was delicious, wonderful atmosphere and the waiters were very polite and helpful. We had the evening standard dinner deal 3 courses with a glass of champagne, go there you really won’t be disappointed.
Very good special menu.
My second visit to The Angler, last time it was an evening party.
It was a busy lunchtime, so we chose a 2 course meal, starter and main dish. Lovely food, but wine by the glass was very expensive and a limited choice, although the wine waiter was helpful. Service was good, as always. We were not rushed, and took our time over coffee.
Evening standard menu is online so there are no unpleasant surprises. The meal was quite superb and in addition to the menu items there were two amuse bouche and a pre dessert, each of astonishing complexity and flavour adding to to menu items.
The wine list is comprehensive with a wine list on Mondays that offers a small choice of superb wines at half price.
Service is friendly, attentive and not intrusive.
We have eaten from the al la carte previously and the evening standard menu offers the same high quality food perhaps with slightly smaller serving size.
The bread and yeast butter is sublime but don't over indulge on it.
A gluten free diner with us was accommodated without fuss and with charm.
Christmas menu was odd & many dishes missed the mark. Service for this level upscale restaurant was very slow. Waitstaff couldn’t explain the dishes, and even in exceedingly poor English at that.
Nice restaurant, beautiful settings. Some of the food not that fine dining , for the sample, crackers and sausage roll
We had an excellent meal and were looked after in a friendly but professional way. The whole experience was superb. Thank you
It was just Simply Amazing - we had a fantastic evening
Situated on the top floor (7th) of the South place hotel The Angler is ideal for a quiet meal leaving the noise of the ground floor bar behind. Fish based cuisine, beautifully prepared and presented. Wine list extensive, if a touch on the pricy side. Good service and a buzzy atmosphere.
Amazing cuisine. Chef catered for my low-fat dietary needs
A super find in the heart of the city. A lovely welcome at ground floor level and again on arrival at level 7. Ambiance pleasant and food delicious. Unfortunately this was a business lunch without wine!! Next time I hope to try the pairings!
The food was outstanding! Absolutely no cooking smell from behind the kitchen doors and a wide selection of truffle and seafood dishes. Fantastic service and beautifully presented dishes!
A wonderful lunch. The starter of ravioli of Dorset crab is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. The cod main was exceptional. Worth every penny.
Excellent quality food and service.
Many thanks to everyone at Angler for a really lovely birthday lunch. Really enjoyed the relaxed yet buzzy atmosphere and the food and cocktails were spectacular.
