Anglo restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I've been trying to get a table at Anglo for quite some time but I finally organised myself early enough to arrange a midweek birthday dinner for my fiancée. I can't believe what I was missing. An exquisite seven-course tasting menu (with an optional wine pairing - highly recommended) plus three amuse bouche intros. Faultless. They even deflty arranged a few gluten few substitues without spoiling the impact of the food. Throw in a little candle on one of the pudding dishes and the beautiful touch of a signed copy of the menu and the evening was complete. I can't recommend it enough - I'll be back as soon as my wallet allows...
Anglo's tasting menu is excellent value for money. The food is simply exceptional and the ambience is relaxed and cool. Can't wait to go back and have recommended to friends already. The staff are really friendly and explain each course- there was not a single course we didn't love.
All I can say is this is one of the best meals we have every had. Each course of the 7 course tasting menu was a flavour explosion and superbly cooked. The combined with the excellent service and value , fab sommellier and great atmosphere we will be back in the spring to try the new menu.. please go and enjoy a real treat !!!!
We had lunch to celebrate an anniversary. The restaurant is decorated very simply - not at all smart, but we were really comfortable. We had the tasting menu and it was out of this world - creative, intersting, delicious. Each course repaid being given proper attention, tasting and thinking about the food - and its accompanying drink (we had the "drinks" which gave us cider and beer at the end - really interesting). One of the seven courses, in our view, did not really work, but the elements were perfectly cooked and the discussion whether it worked was worth having. The service was efficient without being rushed and the staff made us feel they were enjoying sharing food which they loved.
This was our first time at Anglo. We went because it was one of A A Gill’s favourite restaurants. Tucked away up a side street in Clerkenwell I wasn’t sure about it as I approached. Quite a casual restaurant which we loved. The tasting menu blew us away we thought it and the drinks tasting menu (the one with the ale and cider as well as wine) was sublime. Honestly can say this was the nicest, most experimental meal we have ever had.
I came across Anglo Restaurant after some research on tasting menus in London, and boy, it didn’t disappoint. With its great value for money, it was one of the best tasting menus/ food I have ever had. It’s quirky menu with bold flavours left me wanting more. The mushroom truffle broth, pork belly and cauliflower dishes were just amazing. The staff were extremely attentive and knew the menu inside out. Highly recommend!!
After being recommended by friends, we did the lunch time tasting menu. Creative and accomplished modern british cooking without being too pretentious. The Venison tartare was one of the best dishes of the year.
Small but well thought-out wine list with lots of interesting and unusual choices.
All round we thought it was exceptionally good value and will be back again.
This was my second trip to Anglo and the first time for lunch. Having the option of one, two, three or five courses at a fixed priced for each option is great as it gives you flexibility and choice and some budget control. The decor is stripped back and the staff are friendly but at Anglo the food is the star. Each course was a taste-packed morcel. The portions are small enough so that we could have three courses, each one outstanding, without feeling too full. Presentation is immaculate, each beautiful dish brought to table and explained by a chef, which adds to the enjoyment. There is just enough science and innovation to keep things interesting without it getting in the way of flavour. Overall I was delighted that the whole-evening tasting menu experience that I had tried before could also translate into a manageable business lunch of exceptional quality.
Visited for our anniversary. Firstly the service is exceptional; truly, truly exceptional. The team go above and beyond: When there was a mix up with our dishes (we ordered the partridge over the pig's belly) the team were apologetic, one of the chefs having initially taken away the incorrect dish the manager came back out gave us both the pig's belly dish to eat whilst they prepared a new partridge dish. That was unexpected and was a very pleasant surprise - as it happens both my wife and I preferred the pig's belly over the partridge. The sommelier is nothing short of insightful and brilliant, a fantastic laugh and clearly exceptionally knowledgeable. The only element I would change is that the venue is a little tight, they've made a lot of very limited space but the venue does feel a little cramped. I would love to see this fantastic restaurant expand into a larger restaurant, certainly, it deserves to achieve that level of success.
I work on Hatton Garden and have walked past Anglo frequently and always wanted to try it out and I finally did with a couple of work colleagues. For a Tuesday night dinner it still felt like a special occasion and the service was amazing. The food was delightful and creative.
This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend who was a chef at The Five Fields, a Michelin star restaurant in it's own right. I asked for an intimate space with excellent food and that's exactly what we got.
We were greeted and shown to our table, where the evenings tasting menu was explained to us. The price was reasonable for the number of courses and we decided to go for a few extras like truffles on our cheese course and I went for the deer instead of pork belly.
Overall both myself and my partner had a fantastic experience at Anglo, the atmosphere was great and the food was of a very high standard. Attention to detail was obvious and the stand out dish for me was the ray wing and oyster. The fish was cooked to absolute perfection and the flavours and textures worked perfectly with the seaweed and sauce.
I would definitely come back, to try the next menu. The dishes are exciting and the food is the real focus here, so thoroughly recommended.
What a brilliant find (via Open Table!) Not far from our office in Clerkenwell. Visited for my wife's birthday.
Tiny place (20 covers) so you really need to book - full on a Monday evening: you have been warned
In the evening there is set tasting menu of 7 courses plus three amuse-bouches. At £45 this is a "steal" for the quality, charming service, knowledge, enthusiasm and imagination/cooking skill. Good wine and drinks list and a choice of matching drinks at £35 per head and premium wines at £45 per head (we went for the latter and they were largely extremely well matched and very good)
AB's great, particularly the "mushroom broth" which was amazing
Stand outs of the 7 tasting courses were ray wing with kombu and oyster, pan fried foie gras with grapes and almonds (£12.50 supplement for additional eighth course - fab and worth it!), wild fallow deer with girolles and black garlic (melted in the mouth); the best course was cheese (sheep's - finely grated pecorino style) with burnt onion on malt loaf (home made) - absolutely mind-blowing and also both of the two desserts and the pre-dessert (sea buckthorn curd, which was lovely)
Seriously recommended. Go before they get a star! One of the best meals I have had this year and I have had a lot! We will certainly be going again
